High Quality Cookware with Ingenious Stackability
on March 22, 2019

Go look under your counter, you know, where you keep your cooking pans, and if you're anything like us, you'll likely see pots and pans and lids and pots and pans and lids strewn all over the place. Let's face it, it's unwieldy, messy, difficult to manage and now, completely unnecessary.
Enter the 10 piece Calphalon Premier cook set, which includes a 10" and 8" fry pan, a 2.5 qt and 3.5 qt saucepan, a 3 qt saute pan and a 6 qt Dutch oven, plus 4 flat glass lids to provide cover for all. And all this greatness stacks in the most remarkable way. In a fraction of the space all your other pots and pans take, you can have one simple stack of the best quality cookware out there, with room to spare.
Founded in 1963, Calphalon has become synonymous with high end cookware. There's a good chance are you already have Calphalon cookware you've cooked on for years. That's the great thing about Calphalon cookware. It is very durable, it's dishwasher safe and it's made of the highest quality hard-anodized aluminum, three layer non-stick cooking surface and durable stay cool stainless steel handles. There may be other non-stick cookware options you can buy for less money, but few provide the quality and durability you get with Calphalon.
If there was one thing I wish Calphalon had done differently, it would have been to add a vent hole in the glass lids. I find that helps minimize spill overs when cooking at high temperatures. Otherwise, there's truly nothing to criticize.
While not inexpensive, this set is actually a bargain when you consider all that you get. Having used Calphalon for years, I know we'll be happy with our new stackable Calphalon Premier cook set for years to come.

Comfortable, Waterproof and Great Sound!
on February 1, 2019
Posted by: RBrylawski
from Tampa, FL
To be honest, my preferred earphone style is over-the-ear. But then, there are times when over-the-ear just won't work, like when working out, going for a long walk, or even when traveling.
I've tried a number of lesser quality earbud headphones purporting to be good for such situations, but they either don't sound good, arent't comfortable, fall out and frankly, they just disappoint.
I've just spent the last couple hours with my new Jaybird Run XT. I really like them for several reasons:
They're super comfortable. They are amazingly adjustable and come with multiple extra pieces and earbuds in round and oval shapes and sizes, so you can truly customize the fit to each ear. They came pre-assembled with size 2, which for my ear is actually the perfect size. But if you need a different configuration, it's super easy to replace the surround and earbud to fit your ear size perfectly. Once you've got the right size, the design incorporates a finger that locks (quite comfortably) in your ear, so rigorous exercise won't jostle them out of your ears.
The charging case is very compact and charging them for the first time was fast. In fact, you get an hour of play time in just 5 minutes in the case. A full charge from a low battery, takes just two hours. Nice.
They're waterproof with an IPX7 housing, so a run in the rain or sweat in the gym won't cause any issues.
But the most important consideration when choosing an earphone is sound. In this respect, these puppies really shine. Jaybird has an app you can download from your Android or Apple store, with videos on how to adjust the size perfectly and a simple, but very effective equalizer you can customize to your preference. Or you can choose from several preset equalization options or create your own equalization presets. Personally, for my listening needs, the flat setting was great out of the box. And that's in my humble opinion, the mark of a really good headphone in the first place.
Operating these couldn't be easier. They're immediately ready to pair and can be paired before you even take them out of the charging case. Just tap the Bluetooth setting on your device, Jaybird Run immediately appears, tap it and voila, you're paired. Directions are provided on how to pair with another device so you can pair them with your phone and tablet if you choose.
You can of course take a phone call by taping the right earbud to answer, then tap it again to end the call. A tap on the left earbud and you can access Siri or Google Assistant. And to skip to the next song or decline a call, just double tap the right earbud.
I would have given these a full five stars, but the only reason I didn't is you get just 4 hours of play time on a single charge. The charging case will recharge them twice more without having to charge the case, but even lesser Bluetooth earbuds these days are offering longer play times without needing to charge again. Apple AirPods offer 5 hours of play on a single charge, and are in the same price range.
Overall, I'm quite pleased with the Jaybird Run XT. They sound terrific, are well made, are super comfortable and should provide many hours of great listening, whether on a couch or the elliptical at the gym.

Listen to your favorite songs anywhere with these Bluetooth Audio Technica headphones. They fold inward, letting you conveniently store them when not in-use, and the fitted ear cups prevent outside noise from interfering with sound quality. These Audio Technica headphones run for up to 40 hours on a single charge and have 45mm large-aperture drivers for clear, powerful sound.

Remarkably Good and Very Comfortable.

I really really like these Audio Technica -ATH M50XBT Over-the-Ear headphones. I've really put them through some major listening sessions over the last couple days and I'm happy to say, they are terrific. I have Bluetooth headphones costing even more than these and I'd say in some ways these are much better. They are monitor headphones and as such, they have a very flat, natural sound. Monitor headphones and speakers should present sound the way the sound was recorded, without altering anything. These certainly do just that. Unlike some other big name headphones, these don't over emphasize bass or treble. If you like classical music, these are for you. The canons in the 1812 Overture didn't break up, nor overpower the rest of the music. And a flute concerto was never shrill, but did demonstrate the brilliance of the performance. I also put them to the test with many other genre's and they never disappointed. Vocals sound very natural.
These are large headphones and good news for larger eared people, with 45mm drivers, they'll fit fine. And if you have a larger than average head size, these puppies have a lot of adjustment built in. To me, the design looks retro, as in 1980's retro. But I'm not into headphones for how they look. Nope, I only care if they sound good and are comfortable to wear. These are very comfortable on my head and the sound as I've said is really outstanding.
These headphones are 5.0 Bluetooth, and you can pair them with up to 8 different devices. I paired them with my laptop, my iPhone and my iPad. As you switch from one device to the next, you'll need to disconnect from the current device to connect with the next device. One thing I particularly like is battery life. You can get up to 40 hours on a single charge. I've been listening for a lot of time and via the Audio Technica app (Audio Technica Connect) I'm still at 90%. Speaking of the app. It's sparse to say the least. You can switch between three Codec, such as AptX, should one provide a better Bluetooth connection. Otherwise, the app really doesn't do much. Especially if you compare the app to say the Parott Zik 3.0, which offers infinite adjustment of the sound stage and equalization. But then if you alter the soundstage on a headphone, they really aren't monitor anymore, so Audio Technica didn't provide that ability, I'm sure on purpose.
Everything else you might need is included. You can listen wired, which sounds great either way. The controls for the headphones are on the left ear. Left handed people will love that. For me, a right handed fellow, I find using the controls, which are small for on/off, volume up/down and power, more challenging to get the hang of. And you can answer a call by tapping the left earpiece for voice controls.
Audio Technica has been in the high-end Stereo business since 1962. For those who remember record players, Audio Technica was THE brand to own in phono-cartridges, many costing way more than these headphones cost. My point is, unlike some companies out there, this company has decades of experiencing making equipment engineered to provide the best sound possible. These headphones at their price point are yet another example of what Audio Technica can do. And that's a really good thing.

Buy These - Skip Divorce Court
on November 27, 2018
Posted by: RBrylawski
from Tampa, FL
I have to say I'm really glad I got these Insignia NS-HAWHP2 Wireless Over-the-Ear Headphones. First, if you're married/coupled and have a significant other who either likes things too quiet, or better yet, won't let you watch TV in bed, then something like this will save the cost of a divorce lawyer. For years now, I've wanted to be able to watch the news in bed or SNL on a Saturday night, but simply haven't been allowed to. Now I can and these sound great for their intended purpose. They really are primarily designed for use with a TV. My Smart TV is actually Bluetooth headset capable, but won't work with any Bluetooth headphone I've tried and I've tried multiple sets.
Initially, I had a rough start with these. They can be set up either via digital or analog inputs. While they come with a 3.5mm headphone jack to RCA plug, you can set them up via Optical Digital cable. Knowing that the digital way would provide better sound, I bought an optical digital cable and the directions suggest you have to configure the output to PCM, which I did, but they simply wouldn't work no matter what I tried. On the base/charging station, you can switch between digital or analog, but that didn't do anything either. So the simplest way to connect them is via the headphone jack on your TV to RCA cable to the docking station and it worked right away.
The little user guide provided with these headphones suggests multiple ways to connect them, but it leaves much to be desired as it really doesn't provide enough detail. I was determined to watch SNL in bed, so I'm glad I was able to get them working.
The headphones come with a built in rechargeable lithium-ion battery and a convenient to use docking station (see attached photo), which provides, according to Insignia, 10 hours of continuous use, though I've not tested the actual use time. The headphones themselves are very lightweight and are very comfortable on my head. I don't have a large head, but with as much adjustment as they offer, if you do have a large head, I'm sure they will fit just fine. Also the range is quite far. I was able to maintain a clear connection, more than the stated 33 feet distance from the charging stand.
These are not going to be your go to Bluetooth headphones for most of your listening needs. They are however, a great go to option if you need to be able to watch TV, without disturbing others. For me, they have provided a flexibility that was sorely lacking and for that I'm very happy with them.

The Smartest Blender You Could Possibly Imagine
on November 17, 2018
Posted by: RBrylawski
from Tampa, FL
This Ninja Duo Smart Screen blender makes Smoothies, Purees or just about anything you could possibly think a blender capable of doing. It just does it better than you ever imagined a blender could do things. It includes a FreshVac system, which is truly unique and helps with nutrient and vitamin extraction during the blending process, by removing the air in the Pitcher or Single Serve cups. Simply place the battery operated FreshVac Pump on either the included Pitcher or Cups and touch a button. The FreshVac removes the oxygen in the canister, then just blend away and you'll be amazed at how effective and better looking your blended concoction will be. It's not just better looking, it's smoother, with less foam and it really does taste better than the smoothies I made with my NutriNinja (which this replaces). According to the manufacturer, the blade system better extracts vitamins and nutrients from fruits and vegetables.
It comes really nicely packaged, with 2 20 oz. single serve FreshVac cups with lids, a 72 oz. FreshVac pitcher, 6 AA batteries (for the FreshVac Pump), the 1400 Peak Watt motor base, removable blade assembly and a recipe book.
With Smart Screen Technology, at a touch of a setting on the screen, you get customized power and speed via 7 pre-set Auto-iQ programs to achieve the perfect result for the job with no guesswork. It's smart. It's effective. It just works!
The feet on the blender are suction feet. This is great. With 1400 Watts of Peak power, you'll never have to worry about the blender walking around your counter top. All the parts are dishwasher safe.
I've been a Ninja customer for a long time. Based on my personal experience, Ninja's are simply the best. They're versatile. They're well made. And they last and last. This new system is just a much more intelligent take on blending that will make my morning smoothies taste better and healthier. What more could one ask or hope for?

Sonicare Toothbrushes are the Best
on November 14, 2018
Posted by: RBrylawski
from Tampa, FL
I've been a Philips Sonicare user for several years now. My dentist recommended their toothbrushes to me and beyond any hype, they simply clean your teeth better. My dental hygienist is always very pleased with how my gums are healthier and teeth so much cleaner than if I used a conventional toothbrush. Over the years, I've been through a few Sonicare systems, so I was anxious to have the opportunity to use the DiamondClean System.
Having just retired a Sonicare, I can tell you the DiamondClean system is terrific. It looks a little different and offers more cleaning options, from:
Clean Mode
White Mode
Sensitive Mode
Gum Care Mode
Deep Clean Mode
For most people, Clean mode is all you'll need, which provides 2 full minutes of plaque removal, in 30 second intervals (they call this Quadpacer, so you divide your teeth into 4 sections, which you clean for 30 seconds each. Once you get used to the Quadpacer, you'll wonder how you ever lived without it.
Included with this Toothbrush is a travel case. Note some units come with a travel case you can use a USB cord with to charge the unit while away from home, but this particular unit doesn't include that. If you travel a lot, you might want to buy the next model up which does include the charger for the travel case. Otherwise, once fully charged (it takes about 24 hours to fully charge the base), you can get several days use without needing to recharge.
Also included is the charging base with two ways to charge the handle. One looks like a shot glass the handle just rests in (see attached picture), while the other option is a plexiglass base that lets the handle charge in a totally upright vertical position. I tried both options and have actually decided I prefer the vertical charge position.
Toothbrushes may not be exciting things, but if you care about having healthier gums and cleaner teeth, you owe it to yourself to invest in a Philips Sonicare system. Your dentist will thank you and if it makes getting cavities a thing of the past, your wallet will thank you too!
This got 4 stars as opposed to five for one reason only. For the price of this unit, it should have come with the travel case you can charge. Otherwise, this is a 5 star product in every other sense.

This HP Spectre Simply Rocks!!! 10 Stars!
on November 12, 2018
Posted by: RBrylawski
from Tampa, FL
Last year, around this time I purchased the HP 15" xSpectre 360 laptop from Best Buy and fell in love. It is simply said, the best laptop I have ever had the pleasure to own. This year, I had a need to replace an aging computer, so without reservation, I chose this years newer HP 15" Spctre x360 15-df0013dx. This is HP's most powerful Spectre yet and it's everything last years model is in terms of goodness and then some!
One simply can't overlook the sheer beauty of these machines. The Dark Ash Silver with Copper Accents is simply stunning. And the quality feel of every aspect of this laptop reeks of luxury in design and parts. It just doesn't look or feel like your average laptop. And to be honest it isn't your average laptop.
The screen is simply stunning. First of all, it's Corning Gorilla Glass 4 and it's 4K. Trust me, 4K Video is rendered in as good as the best 4K TV clarity you could own, maybe even better! It's immersive on steroids, with over 8.2 million pixels, covering 3840x2160 resolution. The 8th Generation Quad Core Intel i7 Processor with NVIDIA GeForce Graphics provides the graphic power to do anything you could want.
This laptop comes with 512GB of blistering fast SSD Storage, with a battery that can go up to 16 hours and 15 minutes on a single charge. I remember when a charge of 4 or 5 hours was considered amazing! Add in 16 GB of RAM and 8 GB Cache and this is one powerful lightweight powerhouse. It weighs an astonishingly low 4.79 LBS and is only .76 thick.
This laptop is Windows Ink able and comes with a HP Digital Pen in Dark Ash Silver. Use this with a photo editing app and the options are endless in what you can do. And the audio system is from Bang & Olufsen, with HP Quad Speakers. Translation: It provides some of the best sound on any laptop I've ever heard.
In terms of connectivity, you get:
1 USB-C 3.1 Type A port
1 Thunderbolt 3 port
1 USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type A
1 HDMI 2.0 port 1 Headphone Jack.
If there is any disappointment and this one is minor is the laptop only provides a Micro-SD card reader. I don't have any gear that uses Micro-SD cards. I need to figure out how to use my SDXC memory cards, but I'm sure there are adapters for that.
Setup with this laptop was so easy. I mean So So easy. I have a backup service for all my files, so I turned the laptop on and the Windows assistant walked me through the initial setup for Wifi, etc, performs some updates and let's you choose from three ways to sign in using your face, your fingerprint or a self defined Passcode. From there, I simply logged into the backup service, got all my files, documents and photos put exactly where I had them and installed all the other things I use such as Office 365 and Adobe Creative Cloud, seamlessly and easily. Since I also have a HP Tango Printer (I really recommend this printer), connecting to the printer was instantaneous and gone are the days of having to downloading printer drivers.
So there you have it. I'll break the Pros and Cons down this way:
Pros: Just about everything I wrote above - Really!
Cons: I wish this came with a SDXC Card Reader and that's about the only wish I have.
If you can't tell, I'm beyond sold on these HP Spectre laptops. They ooze quality, they ooze design sophistication and they just work beautifully.

Smaller, But With The Same Goodness
on November 4, 2018
Posted by: RBrylawski
from Tampa, FL
The best compliment one can pay a product is to buy it a second time. I recently got the ION F80 Cordless vacuum and liked it so much, I had to get its smaller brother, the ION X40. Over the years I've accumulated lot's of vacuums. With the F80 and X40, I now have the perfect combination of vacuums for all my needs. If you have a super large home, neither of these might be the best options, but for my 2200 square foot home, these are perfect.
You get one long lasting Lithium Ion battery and it can be charged in or out of the vacuum. You can also get a charging dock if you want. Both the F80 and this X40 can be a bit top heavy with the battery installed, but you just need to rest it against something if you need to take a break. Otherwise, it just feels great in your hand as you use it.
If you need extra power, there's an ION Boost button for up to one minute of extra power. It's immediate and powerful. It will run your battery down faster if you use it a lot. But for most needs, the standard power is more than enough.
Unlike the F80, the X40 does not have Multiflex Reach, so it doesn't bend if you want to vacuum under spaces like a sofa or table. But that's the advantage of having more than one vacuum for differing needs.
At the click of a button, the X40 instantly turns into a handheld vacuum. You get a couple attachments for things like stairs or tight places, like a Crevice Tool and an Upholstery Tool. Both work great in handheld mode. While the F80 is also handheld at the touch of a button, the X40 is much more comfortable in your hand for things like vacuuming your car.
Registering the vacuum with Shark is simple. If you have a code scanning app on your phone, simply use it to get to the Shark Warranty page, enter your name, address, date of purchase and where purchased and you're registered.
All in all, I have to say I'm mighty impressed with both wand vacuums from Shark. They do exactly what you want a vacuum to do and they do it pretty quietly and really well.

A Lot of TV For Not A Lot of $$$$
on November 1, 2018
Posted by: RBrylawski
from Tampa, FL
This is a mixed bag review. On the one hand this Hisense 55H9 PLUS is miles ahead of the 55" 4K Ultra TV I purchased just two years ago, in terms of picture quality. But there are things I'm not fond of and there are things I am fond of.
First the good things. Out of the box, the picture is truly stunning. The look of the screen is high end and I love the barely there bezel around the TV. It's hard to imagine for this kind of money, this much TV can be easily purchased. I paid a LOT more money and didn't get High Dynamic Range, just two years ago. But that's often the case as the higher end options find their way into the more affordable units fairly quickly.
The TV offers what they call Local Dimming, to provide better contrast for whiter whites and darker blacks. It really does provide rich deep colors and I find the contrast stunning. Especially for a TV at this price.
You get 4 HDMI inputs and they're High-Speed, to boot. But if you have an older generation DVD player that still uses Component Video outputs, you'll need to buy a Component Video to HDMI conversion cable.
Set up was a breeze. It connected to my 5ghz Wifi router instantly. I use a Yamaha Receiver and Bowers and Wilkins Speakers with a Subwoofer as opposed to the internal speakers, but I did give the internal Harmon Kardon audio system a go and it was remarkably good for built in speakers. If you don't want to run this through a sound system or add a sound bar for surround sound, you'd be just fine. Actually, more than just fine. In settings, I could not find a way to turn off the internal speakers permanently. But then there's a mute button on the remote and when I muted the TV, it let me listen through my sound system alone, which is what I wanted.
You have the complement of Google Assistant as well as Android TV with voice control with this TV. That's great if you're a Google/Android user. But fear not, even if you aren't this TV is more than worth the price of admission as a 4K Ultra HDR TV on its own. And you get Netflix, Amazon, YouTube and Pandora, just to name a few already installed apps waiting for you. But you can add apps if you need more.
The motion rate for this TV is 240. Again, that's very fast for a TV at this price point and should make game day or video games in general work well. There are motion controls, which to be honest didn't really do much, so I found the best picture was without them. Which is great. Who wants to fiddle with settings like that anyway?
All in all, the good things are actually VERY good.
Now the not so good. The remote isn't particularly good. Not that it doesn't work, it's just so basic and feels pretty cheap. In contrast to the TV, which feels anything but cheap.
Next and for me and this was a BIG deal. I am using this in my Master Bedroom, and it replaced a first generation 40" Samsung 720P HD (very early HD) TV. I already had a nice TV stand to hold all my electronics and the TV. But the legs on this TV, while metal and seem to be high quality are placed so far out to the very edges of the TV that you MUST have a surface (unless you are mounting this on a wall) no less than 49 inches wide. My other 55" 4K Ultra TV has a stand in the center of the TV, making it far far easier to place on a surface. I had to buy a new piece of furniture to put this on and while it was 49" wide, it tapers in making it impossible for both legs to sit on the new stand. I wound up having to get another piece of glass to sit on the new stands top glass piece just so the TV wouldn't fall over. Why oh Why Hisense, would you make this otherwise great TV so bloody difficult to place on a TV stand?
This TV is able to connect to Bluetooth devices. I was really excited about that as there are times I want to watch TV and listen through headphones. Yes, the TV does have a 3.5mm headphone jack in the back of the TV, but I switched over to Bluetooth headphones long ago. So I figured it would be a snap to pair some Bluetooth headphones. Well, it was easy to pair them. But I've tried two different brands and neither worked well. The sound kept breaking up and that was close to the TV. My viewing position is about 15 feet from the TV. Bluetooth headphones, even ones not costing an arm and a leg, typically have a usable range of around 30 feet. 15 feet from the TV, no Bluetooth headphone I've paired works at all. This is a major disappointment to me, to be honest.
The other thing and this is actually a small nit, is where the power cord plugs into the TV. It plugs in at the very far outer edge on the back of the TV. So what, you might wonder? Well, it means the power chord basically dangles down the right side of the TV (if you're facing the TV). There's just no reason they couldn't have put the power cord in a more discreet location. Again, it's a nit, but it's almost as if someone said, hey put it here and no one bothered to look at one actually plugged in after putting it there. The HDMI connection ports are on the other hand placed conveniently, where the cables are out of view.
So there you have the good and the not as good. Overall, I still have a difficult time believing one can get this much TV for so little money. 10 years ago, this puppy would have sold for multiple thousands of dollars, yet you can get all this goodness for not even close to a $1000. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a great TV, one that is easy to set up and one that won't break the bank. They did a really good job with this, but the nits I highlight are ones I hope they'll think about for future products.

Looks Great. Cooks Even Better

Our George Foreman Grill broke ages ago and we never replaced it. We never really liked it to be honest. But sometimes, having the ability to press a sandwich comes in really handy, so we had the opportunity to get this DeLonghi 5 in 1 Grill. And we've had a great time using it. So far, we've made the best Cuban Sandwich I've ever had. We've grilled hamburgers and even made a complete breakfast using the Griddle Plates. Everything has cooked perfectly.
The design of the grill has a nice professional look that should fit the nicest of kitchens. The Durastone Ceramic coating on the grill and griddle plates makes cleanup simple and I'm thinking the finish will be very long lasting.
In addition to the griddle and grilling plates you get two drip cups (though they call them drip plates for some unknown reason) and a cleaning tool. The cleaning tool doesn't really do much and the drip cups seem more like an afterthought.
One thing I found completely surprising, at least with the unit I received. There were no instructions in the box. There was a page with a parts list and the box it comes in also provides some information. But for a device from a company like DeLonghi to have no instruction manual at all seems odd.
I wound up going to www.delonghi.com and found out I could register the grill there and I was able to print a [sort of] 4 page user guide. Note to DeLonghi: A proper user guide, with maybe some how to suggestions should accompany something like this.
Otherwise, this is a welcome addition to our kitchen and now we can make Cuban Sandwiches at home, far better than any served near us and we live where the Cuban Sandwich was invented!

Does the semi-open buds stop occlusion?

YES. Not only are they more comfortable for lengthy listening sessions AND occlusion is a thing of the past. You don't hear your footsteps when you walk and you don't sound like you're in a tunnel when you talk.

Do these headphones come with a fiber optic cable

No, if you want to connect them via digital optical cable, you'll have to buy one. I bought one, but couldn't get them to work via the optical cable, so I used the RCA to headphone jack, which worked just fine.
