The Perfect 6 - 1 Compact Desktop Charging Station
on March 26, 2024
Posted by: RBrylawski
The more devices we get, the more places we need to be able plug things in to charge. At work, I had amassed quite the array of devices I need somewhere to plug them in. Insignia, to the rescue. This 6 - 1 70W Charging Station, with 2 AC outlets, 3 USB C outlets and 1 USB A outlet is just perfect.
It doesn't take much space on my desk at work. The plug it comes with is beefy and 5 feet long and I particularly like how it is offset, so you can plug something underneath it if you need to. The USB C ports are as follows: 2 PD 70 watts and 1 PD 15 watts. The PD 15 watt USB C is perfect for something like an Apple Watch or wireless earbud charger, while the more powerful ports can charge more power hungry devices like laptops. And the USB A port is 12 watt max.
This is really nicely made and the latest GaN technology, which provides more power reliably than traditional silicone chargers and it also supports PPS (Programable Power Supply), which lets your chargers intelligently adjust the charging speed based on its needs.
All this goodness in a small, compact and well made device, which honestly is beyond reasonably priced, makes it a standout Charging Station. Insignia, hit a home run with this. Yes, they did!
I would recommend this to a friend!

Love This Powerboost Deep Tissue Massager
on January 9, 2024
Posted by: RBrylawski
To be honest, I didn't know I needed a hand held massager, but I honestly don't know how I've lived this long without one. This Powerboost Deep Tissue massager from Sharper Image is becoming a daily use item in my household. It's deep tissue, with simple operation, which comes with 6 specialized attachments, which includes:
-Round: Impacts large areas, such as Glutes, Arms, Thighs and Back
-Flat: Hammer-like impact for deeper tissues, for areas such as Chest, Shoulders and Back
-Fork: Dual impact to rock from side to side on muscle knots, for areas such as Shoulders, Bicep, Calves and Feet
-Cone: Pinpoint impact for intense muscle penetration, for areas such as Feet, Calves and Trigger Spots
-Air Compression: Soft impact for gentle stimulation, which is good for all areas
-Bar: Hammer-Like impact for deeper recovery, which is good for Chest, Shoulders and Back
Out of the box, all this goodness to promote physical relief comes in a nice cloth hard case, which stores everything neatly and securely. You could pack it neatly in a suitcase and take it on a trip. The first thing you'll want to do is plug it in to charge, with the supplied USB A to USB C charging cord. It took a couple hours to charge the first time. And there's a round circle which fills in as the charge level goes up, until the circle is fully closed when fully charged. You are advised to NOT use the massager while it's being charged.
Using it is very simple. Simply pull any attachment out and push and turn in the attachment you need until it locks in place. There's a simple power button in the back of the massager, highlighted in orange. Touch it for one second and the remaining charge and power level lights up. Then rapid tap it individually to move up the power levels and ENJOY a sublime pulsing massage. It's really that simple.
A charge will go for about 3 continuous hours (not that you could or should use it for that amount of time) before needing to be recharged and it doesn't seem to lose much, if any charge when not being used for a couple days. The massager is very ergonomic and lightweight, so easy to hold and use on yourself. Though you may need someone to help with areas your arms can't reach easily. It's very quiet, yet powerful.
Like I said, I don't know how I've lived this long without owning a nice compact, powerful, versatile, quiet and oh so effective hand massager. But now that I've got this Sharper Image Powerboost Deep Tissue Massager, this jewel of a massager won't be hiding in a closet, never being used. I've had it a few weeks and I've had to recharge the battery a few times. It's that good!

Tiny - Well Built - Fast - Excellent!
on November 22, 2023
Posted by: RBrylawski
This Cruicial X9 Pro 2TB SSD Drive for Mac, arrives in a much smaller package than I anticipated. And when you open the package, it's even smaller than I imagined. It's made of anodized aluminum case on the top and sides and likely a strong and durable Polycarbonate on the bottom, which lays flat on a surface while being used. It comes out of the box formatted for APFS, which is Apple File System, a proprietary fils system developed by Apple for MacOS Sierra and later, iOS 10.3 and later, tvOS 10.2 and later and all versions of iPadOS. Since this is specifically made for the Apple Mac ecosystem, it couldn't be simpler to set up and use.
While I own iPhone 15 Pro Max and iPad 11 Pro M1, this is going to be used as my Time Machine Backup Drive for MacBook Pro M1. And for this it's honestly plug and use. It comes with a very short USB C to USB C cable, which I initially thought was too short. But in reality, it's perfect. Plug the cable in the USB C on the MacBook Pro and the other end into the Crucial X9 Pro. It immediately lights up (where there's a lanyard hole)and appears on the top corner of the MacBook Pro screen. Right click on it to tell it to backup and it goes about its business. The first backup took a while as there is a LOT of data to backup. Subsequent backups will only take a couple minutes. I love how this SSD was designed specifically for Apple users who want a seamless out-of-the box storage experience.
Read and write speeds are excellent with speeds up to 1050MB/s and using the supplied USB C cable, you get 10GB/s, which is excellent. Crucial claims the claims the read speeds of the X9 Pro were made using Crystal Disk Mark version 8.0.4 on Windows. Depending the Apple device you use, your speeds may vary, especially between Apple devices which are x86 (Intel Based) or Apple Silicone (M1/M2/M3 Based). According to Crucial, Apple prioritizes read speed over write speed. Either way, it's more than fast enough for my intended purpose. Crucial claims the drive will read a single 150GB in 2.5 minutes and a single 300GB file in 5 minutes.
Crucial is a Micron company and they say they are proud to "evangelize" software solutions which help us consumers get the most of their drives. Some of the solutions Crucial supports are Adobe Creative Cloud (they even offer a one month free trial with the purchase of this SSD), mylio photos, Apple Time Machine and Apple Filevault.
The X9 Pro is drop and shock tested to very high standards. This drive should be able to handle just about anything you can throw at it. With a 5 year warranty, there's peace of mind in owing the Crucial X9 Pro for Mac SSD. The Crucial brand from Micron, is an innovator in external storage and if this X9 Pro is any indication of their quality, they've accomplished their goals handsomely.

Px8 - THE MOST AMAZINGLY AWESOME HEADPHONES EVER!
on November 18, 2023
Posted by: RBrylawski
INTRODUCTION:
Bowers & Wilkins is one of the worlds best audio manufacturers, bar none. When you learn recording studios use their speakers as reference monitors you know they’re one of the absolute best there is. B&W is ALWAYS focused on presenting music as it was recorded and meant to sound. Their signature sound is realistic without being overly bass driven or sibilant (harsh). I prefer to listen to music as it was intended to be listened too, without being fooled by speakers which make bass muddy or highs harsh. And no one does midrange better in my humble opinion than B&W. Midrange is where most of the music content is, like most instruments and the human voice.
B&W’s HISTORY:
B&W started as a Radio and Electronics shop in Worthing, in Sussex, UK,. John Bowers and Roy Wilkins, who met while serving in WWII. They began providing public address equipment to schools and churches, with Bowers becoming increasingly involved in the design and assembly of loudspeakers.
B&W went into the speaker business in 1966 and Bowers was determined to produce the PERFECT loudspeaker, capable of delivering recorded sound which is faithful to the live performance and original sound. It was his passion which is imprinted in the company’s DNA where he was known for saying “Good Enough is Not Enough for Bowers and Wilkins.”
The Px8 Over-The-Ear Bluetooth Active Noise Cancelling Headphones:
B&W’s Px8 Headphones are their flagship wireless headphones. If you don’t want to read a long review just know they are without reservation the best sounding headphones I’ve ever had the pleasure to listen to. And I have quite a nice collection of higher-end headphones but none at this level of sonic perfection. I also have a degree in music and have a well-trained ear.
PACKAGING/WHAT YOU GET:

These come nicely packaged as you’d expect of headphones at this price point. It was exciting just to open the box! You store the headphones in a fabric wrapped, color coordinated hard case. Even The case zipper is as smooth as you could possibly want. Inside is a compartment covered by a magnetic flap to store the two cables provided: USB C to USB C charging cable and USB C to 3.5mm audio jack.
QUALITY MATERIALS:

These headphones are made of premium materials. The ear cups and headband are wrapped in sumptuous Napa Leather. The ear cups underneath the leather are made of soft memory foam, which are supremely comfortable to wear for hours on end. The arms are made of aluminum, which is super light but stiff for excellent durability and slide smoothly. B&W says they used diamond-cut bright metal detailing to finish the luxuriously premium look. Not only do these puppies sound great, but they look great, without that in-your-face, look at me styling so many other headphones employ. The quality is simply on a level I’ve never experienced before!
GETTING STARTED/CONTROLS:

Charge the headphones first, then download the Bowers & Wilkins Music App to your cell phone. Set up an account and the app show’s how to pair them as well as what each button does. Next choose what function the Action Button on the left headphone does (ANC/Passthrough or Wake your Digital Assistant). There aren’t many customizations, but these sound so sublime, there really isn’t much need for them. The Px8 has wear sensors if you remove the headphones and start them again when you put them back on, with three sensitivity options (low – standard – high). You can only adjust Treble and Bass, but again, with sound this great who cares? Download an equalizer app if you need more. I believe good headphones shouldn't need equalization to begin with. Finally, they provide links to the some of the best premium streaming services, which feature higher 24-bitrate streaming.
In terms of controls, B&W chose physical buttons over touch controls (YAY!) which have a nice solid tactile feel. There’ a power switch which doubles as the Bluetooth connect button. The Action Button and separate buttons for volume up/down and a button you double tap to move to the next track or triple tap to go back to the previous track or tap to answer or end a phone call. It’s all very simple and intuitive to control.
ACTIVE NOISE CANCELLATION/CALL QUALITY/FEATURES:

I don’t buy headphones for noise cancellation, but the ANC on the Px8 is amazingly good. In the family room with the TV on at normal listening levels and I didn’t hear the TV at all. At Starbucks in a noisy environment, outside sounds were either non-existent or barely noticeable. I give these an A on noise cancellation. There may be other Bluetooth headphones which block out more noise, but often at the sacrifice of sound. Passthrough is quite good if you need to be aware of sounds in your environment. With Six Microphones, 4 for ANC and 2 for phone calls, the phone calls I’ve made have been very clear.
The Px8 has multi-point pairing and I’m now simultaneously connected to my iPhone, iPad and MacBook Pro. Switching seamlessly from one device to the other, B&W has made multi-point connections smooth and easy!
The driver in a speaker is what you hear sounds through. A driver’s sole purpose is to move air for low, mid and high frequencies. The driver in the Px8 is not your standard cardboard type driver found in most headphones. It’s a precisely angled 40mm Carbon Cone driver, designed to improve stereo imaging, deliver reduced distortion and improve clarity. I’ve never heard such clarity in a headphone. EVER! The Px8 uses a high-resolution 24-bit Digital Signal Processor (DSP), coupled with the Carbon Cone Driver to capture sound better and it DOES!
The headphones have 30 hours of battery life which is good, but not industry leading. There are other headphones which have more, but for a charge on-the-go, just plug them in and you’ll get 7 hours of play time in 15 minutes.
The Px8 supports the best Bluetooth Codecs/Profiles, including: aptX, Adaptive aptX, HD aptX, AAC, SBC, A2DP, ACRCP, HFP, BLE GATT (Generic Attribute Profile) and they support Bluetooth 5.2. There really isn’t a Codec/Profile you can’t use, if you have a device which supports them. Suffice to say B&W has you covered here.
ABOUT SOUND!
Some may buy headphones for features such as, ANC, Battery Life, and Style, but to me, nothing matters except for sound. I’ve listened to a LOT of music since getting these and they simply sound better than any headphones I’ve EVER owned. Bass on these headphones is tight and controlled, but NEVER Boomy. Treble is brilliant, but never Sibilant. The star of the show, however, is midrange. No matter how complex the music, every single instrument is presented precisely with a presence that is hard to believe. Stringed instruments are warm. Vocals sound like the person is directly in front of you.
One of my favorite contemporary composers is Mason Bates. I listened to his Alternative Energy – Xinjiang Province and Mothership. I thought I knew them, but with the Px8, I heard nuances I’ve never heard before.
I listened to Libera (boy’s choir) – For the Future. With many other headphones, this song can sound sibilant (shrill), but not on the Px8. It was present, smooth and warm. Another amazing vocal group is Adiemus. Listening to Children of Dannu, something I’ve listened to more times than I can count was like listening to it for the first time. The vocals were amazing and the instruments warm and accurate.
Next up was Camile Saint-Saens Organ Symphony. OMG, when the organ hits in the last movement, it hits with depth I’ve NEVER heard in ANY headphone. An acoustic piece which is fun was recorded live by Schindleria prameaturus – The Fish. Acoustically and sonically presented with amazing clarity and presence.
There really isn’t any genre you could throw at the Px8, which wouldn’t sound better than you could possibly imagine. There is an intimacy with these headphones I’ve never experienced before. EVER!
CONCLUSION:
To say the B&W Px8 is astounding in just about every way, is an understatement. They are stunningly beautiful, made of premium materials. They look great and feel wonderful on my ears for extended hours of listening. Clamping force isn’t very high and that’s important if like me, you wear glasses. The Px8 headphones aren’t inexpensive, but the price in my humble opinion is beyond justified. They are simply about as perfect as headphones could get. When you recognize they are Bluetooth headphones, it’s beyond amazing headphones can sound this great without being wired, though you can plug them in for a direct connection if you want. If this review helps you justify spending this much on a pair of headphones, I hope you will be as happy with the B&W Px8 as I am. Yes, I do!

I Love This Pressure Washer From Greenworks!
on November 10, 2023
Posted by: RBrylawski
I've never owned a pressure washer, but have always wanted one. For my first ever one, Greenworks couldn't have made a better device for a novice user. It comes nicely packaged and includes a lot of utility for not a lot of money. It's electric and its driven by a powerful 13 amp universal motor with an axial cam pump. An axial cam pump is the same type of pump used in commercial washers.
The washer delivers up to 1900 PSI (which is a unit of pressure expressed in pounds of force per square inch), at 1.2 Gallons Per Minute (GPM). And all this power, comes in a small package, which is lightweight and highly portable. Just plug it in, connect a garden hose, the wand, with the right nozzle for the job and push the on button on the washer motor and when you pull the easy-pull trigger, the motor turns on and water flows at a high pressure, effortlessly. Let go of the easy-pull trigger and the motor turns off. It's that simple to operate.
Here's what you get:
-The pressure washer
-A 20 foot, high pressure hose
-The wand
-A premium pressure washer spray gun with an easy-pull trigger and safety lock-out (like the lock you'd use to lock a gas pump)
-A turbo nozzle, soap nozzle, 25-degree nozzle and 40-degree nozzle
-An 11 inch surface cleaner (which you'd use on a flat surface, like a garage floor or driveway
The first project we used the washer on was our white fence, on the side which is shaded most of the time. We live in a hot, humid tropical environment and this fence routinely gets dirty and moldy. Cleaning it manually, is not fun and often not very successful. But this pressure washer from Greenworks cleaned it in minutes, with virtually no effort and it looks brand new. Next up is our driveway. We have pathways, a very large deck and I know this pressure washer is going to be such a great addition to our cleaning arsenal and get a lot use. Yes, it will.

Excellent iPhone 15 Pro Max Case From Zagg
on October 17, 2023
Posted by: RBrylawski
I recently got a new iPhone 15 Pro Max and got a couple cases in advance as I would NEVER own an iPhone encased in glass on the front and back without protection. Now that there are higher quality cases out there and Zagg is noted for exceptional quality, I jumped at the opportunity to get this Milan Snap MagSafe case. This case is truly excellent in every way. It's not inexpensive, but it is really good. Why spend over $1000 on a phone and not put it in a truly high quality case?
Zagg tested this case in drop tests from 13 feet, which is higher than just about any other case on the market. But more importantly, the case is strengthened with Graphene. Graphene is an allotrope of carbon consisting of a single layer of atoms arranged in a hexagonal lattice nanostructure. Translation? It's supposed to be stronger than diamond, but it is flexible and a material Nasa uses because of its unique and incredibly strong properties. It should certainly be amazing in a cell phone case and to my knowledge, Zagg is the only manufacturer using Graphene in their cell phone cases.
Other niceties in this case are it's antimicrobial, to help you avoid bacteria and it's made of other recycled materials. It's also MagSafe compatible if you use MagSafe charging, which I definitely do. It's a slim design, but it feels great in your hands. The buttons are nicely weighted to offer just the right amount of resistance to be nice and clicky. Finally, Zagg offers a limited lifetime warranty and I've used their warranty before and it's excellent.
The sides of the case are ridged to add extra grippiness, which is really important in your hands. And unlike other lesser cases, so far, I've found the case is NOT a fingerprint magnet. I'm OCD and fingerprints drive me bonkers. But this case won't do that. And that's GREAT!
I like the look of the Milan Snap MagSafe case. It's irridescent and changes color depending on the angle of view. It's translucent too, but the color of my Blue Titanium iPhone 15 Pro Max doesn't come through very well. That's a minor nit though, since the sum of all the parts of this case are uniformly excellent and I highly recommend it.

Good Screen Protector, But I Had Issues
on October 17, 2023
Posted by: RBrylawski
This Screen Protector from Zagg, is supposed to be their most technologically advanced protector. Over the years, I've had a number of Zagg protectors on various iPhones and they are durable, well made and they last a long time. This one is made of what Zagg, calls Hexiom impact technology, which Zagg says is 10 times more impact resistant. And it's supposed to have the highest level of Blue Light filtering, which is better for your eyes, if you tend to stare at your cellphone screen for hours on end. It's also anti-relfective and it has an antimicrobial treatment to keep you safer against bacteria. Zagg, also says the screen protector is harder to scratch than most other screen protectors, but I guess only time would tell on that. They also use recycled materials, which is good for the environment and world.
So with all this goodness, why did I only give it 3 stars? It didn't install well on my iPhone 15 Pro Max is why. And I'm pretty good installing screen protectors. It comes packaged with everything you need, including an installation tray, an alcohol wipe, a microfibre cloth and a sticker to remove dust. My screen was cleaned perfectly. There was no dust on the screen. I placed my iPhone in the tray, removed the sticker, they said to remove, then you simply place the screen protector on the tabs on both sides of the tray and press down. Seems simple. Then you remove the top layer tab ends and that reveals the screen protector on your iPhone. I'm used to bubbles and how to get them out, and for the most part I was quite successful, but one corner of the protector would NOT adhere to my iPhone. Honestly for a screen protector which costs this much, this shouldn't be an issue. No matter what I tried, the corner would not stick on.
So sadly, I gave up and went back to a less expensive screen protector I had on hand, which seated perfectly the first try, with no bubbles whatsoever.
I'm honestly disappointed this didn't work for me. I'm sure I could contact Zagg and request a replacement as they do offer a limited lifetime replacement guarantee, but it's just not worth it to me. The lesser expensive protector on my phone is honestly good enough.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Really Great Smokeless Indoor Grill
on August 30, 2023
Posted by: RBrylawski
Ninja appliances are ALWAYS great and this new Ninja Sizzle is no exception. It's well made and it cooks fantastically well. It comes nicely packaged and includes everything you need, including the Smokeless Indoor Grill & Griddle, (14’’ Nonstick Grill Plate, 14’’ Nonstick Griddle Plate), and a Quick Start Guide with 10 Recipes. It's attractive and couldn't be easier to use either. Heat distribution is even, so you can use every inch of the grill surface and everything will cook at the same temperature!
The Sizzle reaches a maximum temperature up to 500 degrees F. Since they say its smokeless, I imagined it must have a built-in fan to draw any smoke away. It doesn't, but there must be some magic built in as it really is smokeless while cooking. I've thus far grilled a steak and burgers on the grill and they cooked to perfection and with appetizing grill marks just like cooking on an outdoor grill. The nonstick grill plate is finished in a super finish, which is super easy to clean after grilling. In fact, even if you cook with the perforated lid closed, the lid removes easily and cleans up easily too. I haven't used the griddle plate but plan to make pancakes next!
With all this praise, is there anything I'd change? From design to using it, no. The little manual they provide could be much better. It's somewhat confusing and it suggests you cook a steak (1.25") for example at 375 degrees for 14 - 22 minutes. It would be more helpful to provide cooking times for the level of doneness one prefers, such as rare, medium rare, well done. I cooked my bone in Ribeye steak for about 7 minutes per side, and it was overdone, as I prefer steak more rare. OK, I now know I need to cook a steak less. But providing more detail for meats, such as doneness would help.
Otherwise, this Sizzle is simple to use, well made, looks great, cooks great and is a great new addition to my kitchen. I've honestly never been disappointed in anything I've gotten from Ninja!

SimpliSafe's next generation of professional monitoring is here. 24/7 live guard protection and the Smart Alarm Wireless Indoor Security Camera help stop crime in real time. When a break-in occurs, the camera springs into action. This breakthrough in advanced home security allows SimpliSafe monitoring agents to see and speak to intruders directly through the two-way audio feature, informing them they’re being recorded, and police are on the way.

Incredible Camera From SimpliSafe!
on July 19, 2023
Posted by: RBrylawski
I love love my SimpliSafe Alarm System. It’s simple, SAFE, easy to set up, easy to use and super affordable, without a long-term contract. As long as you continue to pay SimpliSafe’s very reasonable monthly monitoring fee, you’re as protected as can be. I just added this new Smart Alarm - Wireless Indoor Camera to my system, which was beyond easy to set up and it’s simply the best camera SimpliSafe has offered yet. You need to provide the camera a 2.4GHz Wi-Fi connection for it to connect. Most modern routers offer 2.4GHz and 5GHz anyway, so this shouldn’t be an issue for most people.
It comes nicely packaged and includes the camera, a Micro USB to USB A cable, which is very long, mounting hardware if you want to mount the camera on a wall, a warranty manual and a very simple user page. Maybe a bit too simple, but all you really need to know is to fully charge the camera, which by the way, can take up to 5 hours to charge. Then open the SimpliSafe App on your cell phone, press the little button on the top of the camera and your app will easily walk you through connecting the camera to your SimpliSafe Homebase. It took nearly 4 hours to charge mine out of the box. And while there wasn’t anything in the documents provided, you can do what I’m doing and keep it plugged into power 24 hours a day, so you don’t ever have to worry about the camera losing its charge. Note that you do not get a charging cube with the camera. But chances are that like me, you already have a drawer full of charging cubes (it needs to be 7.5w, which most are anyway).
This new camera has a privacy shutter, which clicks audibly when it’s opened or closed, and it has a LED light which lights when the camera is in use. But the real advantage of this Camera is how SimpliSafe monitoring agents can access it during an alarm and in real time speak through the camera to alert an intruder they have called the police and advise someone who shouldn’t be in your home to leave. Plus, the camera is fully encrypted and can ONLY be viewed by monitoring agents when the alarm has been triggered. Now to get that service, you do need to be paying for the Fast Protect Monitoring Service from SimpliSafe, but if you already have a SimpliSafe system, you likely already pay for the service, which is as I said, very affordable. You can change the settings for when the camera shutter cover is open or closed in the SimpliSafe app on your mobile phone.
Compared to the previous generation SimpliSafe camera, this new camera has very wide viewing angle (125degree diagonal) and the motion detector has a 90degree horizontal field of view and it can detect motion up to 30 feet in front of the camera’s field of view. The camera is HD with 1536p HD Video Capture, 10x Digital Zoom and should someone trip the alarm, it has an 80-decibel siren. It has night vision and I have already captured some video in virtually total darkness and the video is crystal clear without digital noise. That’s impressive, for sure.
I’m mightily impressed with this new HD Smart Alarm - Wireless Indoor Camera from SimpliSafe. If there was anything I’d change, it would be the charging cable which is Micro USB to USB A. It’s 2023. Virtually no one uses Micro USB and USB A is a dying connection. I would encourage the folks at SimpliSafe to go with the modern world and incorporate USB C. I’ve pretty much moved over to USB C for everything I use these days. I was lucky to already have a USB Charging Cube available, but if you don’t have one, you can buy one from SimpliSafe or BestBuy as well and they’re by no means expensive.
Otherwise, this is a truly exceptional intelligent, extremely competent camera from SimpliSafe and if you have a SimpliSafe system in your home, it’s very reasonably priced, is super easy to set up, provides a degree of security unmatched by anyone else and would be a great addition to provide even better protection for your home.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Linksys Velop Mesh Networks Simply Rock!
on July 19, 2023
Posted by: RBrylawski
This is not my first experience with a Linksys Mesh Network. And in my book, Linksys is king. We bought the first generation three Node Velop Mesh Network about five years ago and it’s been great. But lately, one of the nodes was going in and out, which caused instability and it was time for an upgrade. Linksys to the rescue, with the newest generation Velop Pro 6E Mesh Network. If you’re still using a cheap router provided by your Internet Service Provider, you simply don’t what you’re missing. Linksys Mesh Networks are easy to setup, powerful and they make your connected live so much better. Especially, if you’re like my household and you have a lengthy list of Wifi hungry devices.
This newest Velop Pro 6E is in another league. It comes superbly packaged, with three nodes, three power adapters, an ethernet cable, and a quick start guide. If you do use a modem router from your internet service provider, this replaces your Router and you will only be using the modem side of the Router. When we got our first Linksys Mesh Network, we wound up needing to remove the Modem-Router and just use a dedicated Modem.
So, what’s so special about this newest Mesh Network from Linksys. Well, let me tell you. It uses Cognitive Mesh, delivering the absolute newest Wifi 6E, which provides superior range. And by Cognitive, Linksys means the network thinks for itself and figures things out by making adjustments continuously to improve connectivity across all of your devices. Translation? You get a faster network, with wider coverage, which permits you to add more devices. It would be very difficult to stump this network and after a couple days using it, I’m getting better Wifi connectivity in places around my home, including Wifi connected security cameras outside my home, which struggled with the previous network. And my home is a concrete and rebar home in the Sunshine State, where thick walls are mandatory for hurricane building codes.
This 6E network has access to higher MHz channels than lesser networks, which provides more power and stronger, more stable connections. In also uses a “Qualcomm Immersive Home” 316 Platform chipset for next generation performance and stability. We’ve currently got 26 Wifi connected devices running in and around our home and this new network isn’t taxed in the least. I’m getting download speeds throughout my home of a little over 420 Mbps, which I’ve never gotten before. The system, however, is capable of delivering over 5000+ Mbps, which is beyond amazing. We only pay for 400 Mbps, which seems more than enough for the average user. Linksys is using a new design with the Nodes this time, which they call a Droplet Design, which is nice looking and provides better thermal performance.
This system is Wifi 6E, which is the absolute newest wireless standard, that extends the capabilities of Wifi 6 into the 6 GHz band. This allows for greater efficiency, higher throughput and increased security. It uses a new, exclusive spectrum that is much larger and has more channels than the spectrum used by previous generations of Wifi devices which means greater reliability and efficiency. Because this is a 3 Node Mesh Network, Linksys says it can comfortably cover 9000 square feet. Our home isn’t even close to that size, but for us, three Nodes means never having to be concerned about losing signal inside or outside our home, which is a great thing indeed! It has a host of security features and it support wireless security/encryption including WPA2/WPA3 Mixed Personal, WPA2 and WPA3 Personal. Add in Parental controls which offers time-based, domain-based and MAC address-based (device-based) blocking of Internet access for those with children who might want to make sure their kids can’t access things they don’t want them to access.
So, what’s it like to set up a new Linksys Velop Pro6 6E. Simple, actually. The first thing you need to do is download the Linksys App on your smartphone. And yes, you need the app for system setup and control once setup. I already had the app, since this new network is replacing an existing Linksys Mesh Network. Then plug in all the Nodes where the modem the Primary Node will be connected, and the app will walk you through the setup process. You’ll be asked to go to your Wifi settings on your phone and enter the Primary Node (any of the nodes can be used as the Primary) Wifi Password, which is printed on a label on the bottom of the node. Then tap the Node name, which is printed on the same label and the primary Node will be connected to Wifi. Then you’ll plug the ethernet cable into the modem and node. The next step is the only place I had an issue and that is you are asked to unplug your Modem, wait 2.5 minutes, then plug it back in and the Node will then go about connecting to the Modem. My Node got hung up. So, I called Linksys and got a wonderful agent who helped me past that step and once fully connected, the app asks if you have any other Nodes to connect and you’ll say yes, and they connect to the network in just a couple minutes. Once you’ve got all three nodes completely configured, you can move the two satellite Nodes to the locations you’ve chosen as their permanent location. In my home, the Primary Node is in the middle of the house. And each satellite Node is located on opposite ends of the house, with the result of consistently strong Wifi everywhere.
My biggest concern was whether I’d have to reconnect the 26 Wifi enable devices I had on the old Mesh Network. And thankfully, I didn’t have to, as-long-as I used the same network name and password I used for the previous system. Once I set that, every single one of the 26 devices connected to the network immediately. So smart. So simple. YAY!
As far as I’m concerned, a Linksys Mesh Network makes your connected life so much better, providing powerful and very stable network connectivity. This newest Pro 6E takes everything Linksys has learned about stable, powerful networks and gives you next-level-performance. Is it worth the price of admission? Yes, Yes, Yes! Two Thumbs Up YES!

Does the semi-open buds stop occlusion?

YES. Not only are they more comfortable for lengthy listening sessions AND occlusion is a thing of the past. You don't hear your footsteps when you walk and you don't sound like you're in a tunnel when you talk.

Do these headphones come with a fiber optic cable

No, if you want to connect them via digital optical cable, you'll have to buy one. I bought one, but couldn't get them to work via the optical cable, so I used the RCA to headphone jack, which worked just fine.
