A Powerful, Younger Brother to the S7.

The Galaxy S7 Tablet FE, whose predecessor is the Galaxy Tab S7, is a solid choice for functionality, as well as offering the power to multi-task and still have time to play while engaging with other apps.
The Pros:
S Pen
Fast Processor
Long Battery life
Multiple Device Connections
Expandable Storage
The Cons:
Screen Display
S Pen Housing/Magnetic Functions
Other functions missing
First, I want to say how functional and easy it is to use the S Pen. The S Pen is weighted, bold, and yet easy to use while writing on the screen and taking notes. The S Pen does feel comfortable, and the functionality of erasing by pressing a button towards the writing tip of the pen makes taking notes and quick erasing painless (rather than having to select the erase tool from a menu). While using a drawing app to trace and color in already made cartoon images, the S Pen was smooth and precise, making sketching on the screen tolerable and fun. The Galaxy S7 FE utilizes a Qualcomm Octa-Core processor, which is quick, yet it allows me to multi-task between opening multiple windows (some "in-screen" apps such as YouTube) and not losing a beat in terms of lagging or stalling. Plus, I was sketching, listening to music, and writing emails while switching back and forth. Again, no issues to report as everything I was doing seemed seamless. I will add that its predecessor, the S7 tablet, utilizes the same type of processor.
On a full charge, I was able to use the S7 FE for multiple days (three to be exact against countless hours) while using it for note-taking, emails, and other miscellaneous tasks before I had to recharge the tablet. I was impressed with how long the battery life was. Especially since most of the time, I was listening to music while working on the tablet with a minimum of 50% screen brightness. Additionally, the S7 FE connected seamlessly to my Galaxy Note 10+. I specifically shared photos from my phone to the S7 FE via a "quick share" connection. Again, a bonus if someone is trying to share notes they took on their phone (or tablet). Yet, the S7 FE does not contain a robust storage capacity (128 GB of storage). You do have the option to install a micro SD card (up to 1TB) to expand storage (which seriously lacks on other tablets; I am looking at you, Apple).
Unfortunately, the S7 FE does contain some flaws. The S7 FE boasts a 12.4" screen, which is great...except for the screen resolution. Compared to its predecessor, the S7, the screen resolution is 2560x1600. Likewise, it contains a TFT LCD. Compared to the S7, which uses AMOLED technology, the picture (while watching videos specifically) is not as bright, vivid, and colorful. Since the S Pen is functional, one of its flaws is the magnet that allows the pen to connect to either the back of the tablet or, if you are working and need a place to store it quickly, to the top of the screen horizontally. The issue with the S Pen connecting to the top of the screen horizontally is, it does not completely "stick," and a sudden movement from the user will dislodge the S Pen. Although a bold idea, theoretically, it was not well thought out. Also, I would advise purchasing a separate case that helps hold the S Pen in place. Lastly, and not necessarily a deal-breaker, the S7 FE only allows a pin to unlock the screen. Whereas the S7 also provides a fingerprint sensor option to unlock the screen from sleep.
Overall, the S7 FE is a light version of its S7 predecessor. It offers functionality while providing a fast processor for those who work and play at the same time. I would definitely recommend based on its performance and feasibility.

This vacuum sucks, literally!

The Shark cordless pet plus anti-allergen vacuum is a thing to behold.
The Pros:
Cordless
Good Charge
Good Design
Powerful
The Cons:
No stand
Accessories are a mess
It's a trap!
Here are the pros I encountered using the Shark cordless pet plus anti-allergen vacuum. First, I have three dogs, and they shed terribly. On most days, I find myself vacuuming with my older cordless Dyson vacuum (which by, the way, is terrible; it does not hold a charge, and it does not pick up everything, and we maintain the vacuum). I found that it takes an hour to an hour and a half to fully charge the cordless vacuum, and you can use it on full power for about thirty minutes. What I mean is, there is a trigger located conveniently on the handle, where you pull it, and the power increases for hard-to-pickup hair/dust/crumbs. The increase in power ensures that I do not have to go over an area more than once while vacuuming (this is especially useful with dog hair), but also I can pick up dust that settles under hard-to-reach areas too (like under a bed). You can see the dust being removed from the floor on full power as you are vacuuming, thus removing any allergy-related particles that settle.
Additionally, the vacuum is powerful, and on full power, I can vacuum my 1,400 square foot house with no issues. However, with my cordless Dyson model with the same "power enhancement mode," I clean for ten minutes, and only half of my house is vacuumed. Again, this Shark vacuum holds a charge, its powerful suction is useful for pet hair and for allergens that pollute the air, but it also takes little time to recharge. More so, the accessories are good, but the specific wand that you use to vacuum pet hair off a couch is OK. The issue I ran into is that the hair sticks to the tool, and you are spending more time removing it from the attachment piece than from the couch. Although not a terrible thing (because it takes the hair off well), it can be a bother for someone who does not want to spend the time to clean the attachment wand off. Lastly, the Shark cordless vacuum can clean both hardwood floors (which I have) but also low-pile area rugs (which I too have) in my home. If you plan to use this on a high-pile (shag-like) area rug, be cautious as it does not do as good a job of vacuuming. I noticed the vacuum becomes louder, and crumbs do not come up as well; it is not a big deal for us as we have another vacuum that can vacuum this rug.
Now, the Shark cordless vacuum does not come with a stand of any kind. Meaning, if you plan to hang it up to charge, you will have to carefully lean it up against the wall to prevent it from falling (the wheels may slip, so place it up against another object to prevent the vacuum from slipping). Although this is not a deal-breaker by any means, I wish Shark followed suit with what Dyson does and include a wall mount for your vacuum to conveniently charge and a place to store the accessories when not in use. Speaking of the accessories, when you are not using them, you cannot attach them to the vacuum for storage, and they sit on your floor where you store the vacuum waiting for use. Hopefully, Shark provides a wall hanging mount that will allow you to attach accessories to it soon. Lastly, the trap on the vacuum is easy to release and remove the vacuumed debris. However, where the advertised "release and go" is not so easy to use. Once you press and release the trapped debris, sometimes hair gets tangled around the filter inside it; thus, the quick and release system fails, and you have to stick your hand inside the trap and pull out the hair that gets tangled in and around the filter.
Overall, the Shark cordless pet plus allergen vacuum is easy to use, and it has a lot of power to pick up dander, pet hair, and dust. Where it lacks is an accessory storage option and trap cleanout. Though, these faults should not sway someone from purchasing this vacuum. I highly recommend the Shark cordless vacuum, and it makes cleaning more enjoyable/painless.

A Close, Smooth Shave Without the Irritation.
on July 2, 2021
Posted by: Veganrichy
from Elk Grove Village, Illinois
The Philips Norelco Series 3000 wet/dry shaver provides a close, smooth shave without irritating the skin.
The shaver itself takes about an hour to charge; I was able to use the shaver for approximately one whole week (at about fifteen to twenty-minute shaving intervals a day without charging). The battery life on this shaver is good, and the shaver has a nice LED indicator to let you know when the battery is full.
The shaving heads are smooth, and they provided a delicate shave to my sensitive skin already (while shaving dry). When I used a shaving lotion on my face, I found that the shaver provided a smoother shave. Again, I have to stress that my sensitive skin had no irritation. However, the included trimmer is the reason why I deducted one-star from this shaver.
While I have some stubble on my face (one could argue a constant "five o'clock shadow for style), I find that trimming down the stubble with the trimmer causes the hairs to pull. Which, overall, takes away from the already delicate experience that I do not take for granted. My old Philips Norelco shaver, however, it too has an included trimmer, and the trimming speed does a better job at trimming stubble without pinching/pulling. I almost want to say that the speed of the trimmer should be upgraded to trim facial stubble (that is my guess as to why the trimmer is lackluster compared to the shaving heads).
Cleaning the shaver is easy, as all you have to do is press the eject button on the front of the shaver, empty the hairs into your sink, and rinse the shaver out underneath the running water. I would not recommend dunking the shaver in water, though.
Overall, the Philips Norelco Series 3000 is an excellent wet/dry shaver for those with sensitive skin, and it shines when you provide a light dab of shaving lotion to your face pre-shave. Where the Norelco Series 3000 falls short for me is the included trimming head. When trimming facial stubble (though it does trim sideburns and hairs around the other parts of your face), it pulls/pinches the hair on your face to a point where it becomes uncomfortable to whoever is using it.

No Shade Thrown on the GE 4-Slice Toaster!
on January 20, 2021
Posted by: Veganrichy
from Elk Grove Village, Illinois
The GE 4-Slice toaster is an elegant yet practical toaster; it is everything a toaster should be and more.
Pros:
Easy clean/no crumb leaks!
Even toast
Thaw setting
Four toast compartments!
Cons:
Toast settings
First, the GE 4-Slice toaster is easy to clean, not to mention the compartments to empty are simple when you have crumbs piling up. What I enjoyed the most was the idea of moving the toaster on the counter without any crumb leaks from the bottom. My old toaster did this too often no matter how many times I cleaned it and emptied the tray; it continuously leaked. I am happy to report that this unit, after putting it through toast warfare, passed the "no-leak" test.
The toaster shade settings were a little wonky to me (from 1 to 8; 8 pretty much burning the toast), but whatever shade setting I put it on, or type of toast selection (bagel, or frozen), the toast was always even. Though what I truly enjoyed the most about this machine was the "frozen" setting. Somehow, GE was able to thaw whatever was placed in the toaster compartments without burning or allowing the food to become soggy. For lunatics like me, that freeze their bread, having the option to thaw and eat toast was a blessing. Additionally, the use of 4 toaster compartments was necessary for me. I was able to toast both a bagel and toast for my son simultaneously with no issues. Thus, the time to prepare food was reduced, and everyone ate what they wanted.
The only con I can give the GE 4-Slice toaster was the shade settings. From 1 to 8, you were able to select how dark/toasted the food you wanted to eat was. For giggles, I set the toaster to 8; after some time, my toast popped up black. I am all for equal toasting, but man, who eats burnt toast?
Ultimately, the GE 4-Slice toaster should be a staple on your countertop. With its elegant design, cleanliness, and ease of use, toasting your food in the mornings (or whenever) will come with ease.

The Pro 4 is OK; But when will the Pro 5 Be out?

The Arlo Pro 4 Spotlight camera provides the necessary "wire-free" worry a homeowner has. However, the camera does have its shortfalls compared to other wireless Arlo cameras that I own.
Pros:
Good Picture
Alerts Work!
Camera Settings
Cons:
Lack of Support
Hardware is terrible
Battery Life
Night Vision
The Arlo Pro 4 Spotlight camera has a solid, 2K video picture during the day. The colors are vivid and bright (with HDR), and even at dusk, the picture quality is good. However, the picture at night is a different story; it is almost a "Jekyll and Hyde" effect (more on this later). The sound quality is excellent, and the camera's built-in speaker/microphone, just like their other line of "wire-free" cameras, provides a clear sound if you are talking to guests outside your door or creeping around and listening to people outside your house. The tricky part of the camera, and to not receive alerts every two seconds, is to make sure you set your alerts correctly. What I mean is, make sure you select your ideal "alerts area" in the settings menu, underneath your camera. Otherwise, you risk receiving an alert for everything including, the wind, which by the way, drains your battery life on the camera (more on this later).
The settings menu is full of options, such as (again) choosing what area of your camera you want it to alert you of movement, etc. Also, you have the choice to turn the spotlight off (a great feature if you want your camera incognito) and change the camera quality (again, I would choose 2K at the highest bandwidth; this is the best possible quality, and it is worth it). Though the camera quality (during the day and at dusk) was excellent, and the plethora of camera options give the user peace-of-mind, however, there are other issues with the camera that I will discuss.
One of the strangest functions of adding a camera to your Arlo account is setting permissions and allowing other users to view specific cameras linked to your account. After several searches for support articles addressing "how to give access to other Arlo account users," and in my case, my wife being able to view another camera, there was no concrete support for this. What I wound up doing was, installing the camera on my wife's Arlo account, setting permissions, and the camera only working for her (not for me). When I removed the camera from her account, the 3-month trial removed itself with it. Meaning, I lost the 3-month trial (to take advantage of all the alerts and recording functions of the camera). When I reached out to support to regain the 3-month trial, nobody was able to help me (unfortunately, this was "lost" forever). A quick update, support said they are going to go ahead and give back the 3-month trial so, the camera is no longer a "live" viewing brick (hooray). Unfortunately, the back and forth emails (countless days) with different support staff and the suggestions by different staff were not helpful at all. My suggestion for Arlo is, do not escalate the issue amongst various support staff; the issue became confusing, and nobody had concrete answers.
As for the Hardware, mounting the camera was not a fun process. The screw that was included with the anchor was garbage; I stripped it when I was manually installing the camera base. Luckily I was able to remove it, and I found a similar screw that did not strip. Also, I would suggest pre-drilling your spot if you are using their hardware to install the base for the camera (I did this, but the screw had a hard time anyway).
Now, the dreaded battery life. After setting up my alerts and testing them, I found that the Arlo Pro 4 Spotlight camera had terrible battery life. On a three-day use of the camera, unfortunately, the battery died. I charged the battery for four hours, reinstalled it, and the battery drained quickly again. Even after changing the settings, and the area for the alerts, the camera's battery life was still non-existent. I own two other Arlo camera's, and I charge them, on average, once a month. Keep in mind, video quality and alert settings do play into the battery life as well (again, no issues with the other cameras).
The night vision, too, is not great on this camera. I noticed a significant drop in-camera video quality (the picture was pixelated). The camera is a 2K quality camera, so the picture quality at night should be subpar at best, but it was not (even when I turned off the "night vision" option, the camera provided a pixelated image). The peace-of-mind of having a quality recording camera at night is out the door with this specific camera. If you are looking for an Arlo camera, and wireless, that provides a better at-night picture, I would suggest the Arlo Pro 4K camera over this one.
Overall, the Arlo Pro 4 Spotlight camera is similar to other cameras in terms of day-time picture quality, sound, settings, etc. However, it fails with its battery life, and the picture quality is awful, in comparison, at night. I would recommend this camera if you are looking for an introductory wire-free recording camera, but if you want that peace-of-mind recording at night, I would suggest looking elsewhere.

Essential for the right user
on November 8, 2020
Posted by: Veganrichy
from Elk Grove Village, Illinois
Pros:
- Easy setup (with Arlo hub)
- easy installation outside
- Picture quality
Cons:
- Difficult hardware
- Configuration
- Difficult setup on multiple Accounts
Adding the Alro Essential spotlight camera to my existing network of Atlanta cameras was a breeze.
The Alro Essential will work with, or without the Arlo network hub, but for the ease of installation I would strongly suggest purchasing another Arlo camera, or the Arlo hub for your home (without it, you would have to manually install it using IP addresses in with your home network making a typical setup non-intuitive for someone who does not have much experience with networks).
Unpacking the camera went well. After charging it for the recommended three hours, I opened up my Arlo app, selected the "Add device," and followed the process of adding the Arlo essentials camera. The setup time took approximately two to three minutes. I went outside, found the spot I was looking for, and before installing the camera outside, I made sure the bandwidth/signal was not an issue (it is recommended to do this before you drill the base into your home outside to ensure there are no lag, or dropout issues). After installing the base and attaching the camera to it (this was an issue that I will mention later), I testes the picture quality in the app by specifically setting it up to have a better picture (I would suggest this setup; you may lose battery quicker, but your picture will look better overall). After a few days of usage, the picture, and sound quality was excellent for the use I had of the product. I only lost some picture quality at night, but with a 1080 P camera that is expected.
Unfortunately, the camera and Arlo app have their downfalls that I do want to point out. First, the hardware (or base of the unit). The base is equipped with a trackball that allows you to "move" the camera in any position you want. However, what I found difficult was the knob to twist, and keep the adjusted setting. Please know that over tightening the setting may cause the trackball to slip, and your camera may fall over. Also, the back of the camera you physically have to twist onto the connection base so that it holds position while on is rather difficult to take off. What the user should do to recharge it, is carefully hold the base, and gently twist the camera off the base to avoid moving your adjustment setting (when I did not do this, the trackball gave out and the camera fell down and out of place).
Second, one of the downfalls of the app is setting up your space to record. I found that this takes a lot of time setting up your zone for recording movement, etc. If you do not set this up appropriately, your camera will record any movement including cars, people walking, and even tree branches swaying in the wind, thus your camera's battery life will fail in days (especially if your picture quality is set to the highest it goes). Also, when adjusting your zone for recording, you may see a loss in any movement if you are not careful. For instance, I was walking near the sidewalk and onto my front lawn and the camera did not record. Unfortunately, this poses a problem because you may want to record someone physically entering onto your property. Again, careful adjustment to your zone settings is needed, and you may experience drastic recording experience; this takes a bit of playing around with, and it mat frustrate the user.
Lastly, my wife and I have two different Arlo accounts with an Arlo camera on it already. Now, you cannot use the same account login on multiple phones or devices. Instead, you will need to create multiple accounts and add the cameras separately. Unfortunately, when adding the Essential camera to my wife's account, for whatever reason, the phone would not find/add the camera to it (my wife has a newer phone than I do and we could not scan the QR code for the camera to install). The issue of not having the second camera on her account poses a problem for security, as I am the only one that can view both cameras (if I cannot view it and something happens, it defeats the purpose if my wife cannot see it either). I would strongly recommend a different approach for Arlo in the future for camera installations when pairing across multiple accounts.
Overall, the camera performs like it is supposed to. With a little elbow grease and some patience, recording zones, and picture/sound quality are there for the Arlo Essential camera. If you are looking for a better picture, I would suggest upgrading the Arlo 4K camera for better quality overall (at both night and day).

A Little Grind Needed With the ECAM35075SI
on October 13, 2020
Posted by: Veganrichy
from Elk Grove Village, Illinois
The De'Longhi ECAM35075SI Dinamica with LatteCrema system, featuring an LCD Display screen, is De'Longhi's premiere Espresso machine, designed to bring the taste of a cafe to your home. However, there are good and bad traits of this machine.
Pros:
Fully Automated
Choice of Foam Options
Can use coffee/espresso beans
Programming Options
Choice of Drinks
Self-Rinsing
Cons:
Not Intuitive
Watered Down Coffee
What Directions?
Flat Taste
First, the pros of this machine; the ECAM35075SI is fully automated. Meaning, you have eighteen drink choices to choose from (from the "Drink Menu," featuring latte, espresso, coffee, flat white), etc. Or, you can select the popular quick menu buttons that are pre-programmed to brew the following: Long, Latte, Cappuccino, Flat, Espresso, and poured over iced coffee. Additionally, you may select one of the eighteen menu options by selecting the "Drink Menu" and choosing one of the pre-programmed Nespresso/coffee drinks (using the arrows to scroll through the list). Most of the time, depending on the choice, the user may have to install the milk frother attachment (by pulling out the hot water spout and attaching the milk frother), or you may have to fill the water tank. Again, the ECAM35075SI walks you through the necessary steps to brew your drink choice, which is one of its strong points (though we will talk about pre-programmed aroma and coffee strength options that become problematic down the road).
One of my favorite features of this machine is the option to set how you want your milk to froth. You can choose a flat, a foamy, or a very foam froth for your latte, cappuccino, etc. The Milk Frother does an excellent job creating a perfect texture and creamy taste. When you finish choosing your milk (for me, I chose milk alternatives such as Rice and Oat milk), the machine will self-rinse itself. Again, a fantastic feature for this machine because it runs a hot water rinse to rid of any milk residue leftover. Likewise, as a consumer who used to purchase pods for both a Keurig and Nespresso machine, and being able to purchase packaged coffee or espresso beans (ground or whole bean) was a breath of fresh air. Truthfully, when made right, the coffee should have a quality taste (more on this later). Additionally, you can change the coffee aroma (by pressing the coffee bean button) for a stronger crema option, and you may change the grind quality of the coffee bean too. Speaking of grind quality, you have to change the bean grind setting while the machine is currently grinding (the directions say not to do this when "not in use," which to me is strange).
Unfortunately, the machine does have negative qualities that you cannot ignore. For instance, when customizing your drink options, the De'Longhi ECAM35075SI provides a "status bar" along the way, which helps you know when your drink is finished being made (not a terrible feature). However, when you are creating your "own" latte, cappuccino, or a flat white, your Milk will continue to froth, and the glass will keep filling (there is no indication in the directions that you should press "OK" when finished programming your milk portion). Again, finding out the hard way when Milk overflowed out of the glass when I was programming the "my drink" menu was not ideal. The directions did not specifically walk you through how to program your own "drink menu."
Unfortunately, the pre-programmed coffees that I selected (let us look at Latte for this example) I found the espresso/coffee was not very strong at all. I understand that with frothing Milk, and espresso mixing are delicate, and you want the perfect aroma/blend of flavor and crema. To me, the machine misses the mark balancing taste with caffeine intake (I included pictures of a pre-programmed latte and my version of a latte). When using the pre-programmed options, I found the mixture of espresso-to-milk flat (milk frothing was done well, but there was no taste). Additionally, the De'Longhi ECAM35075SI Dinamica has an issue brewing plain black coffee. The coffee itself was flat, watered down, and it did not have a taste at all. My Keurig machine makes a better black coffee option, unfortunately. As I previously mentioned, the machine's directions are not very intuitive, and a lot of the learning of the machine is done on the part of the consumer (drink menu options, adjusting quality, playing around with taste and preferences). My suggestion for De'Longhi would be to offer instructional videos to further help consumers with their products, for the exact purpose of informing and helping consumers understand a somewhat complex machine. One tip I would suggest is to have another glass ready while in-use. The De'Longhi ECAM35075SI self-cleans itself each time you turn the machine on, off, and when you are finished frothing Milk. Unfortunately, your drip tray will fill up rather quickly. Likewise, the De'Longhi ECAM35075SI will always let you know when you have to empty the grounds container, drip tray, and when to add water.
Overall, the De'Longhi ECAM35075SI Dinamica with LatteCrema system provides an extensive choice of coffee options and an excellent self-cleaning function. The De'Longhi ECAM35075SI will walk you through making pre-programmed drinks, cleaning, and emptying/replacing cartridges and water. In general, the De'Longhi ECAM35075SI froths Milk for the ideal Latte, Cappuccino, etc., but where it fails is the milk-to-espresso (and water mixing). Unfortunately, the De'Longhi ECAM35075SI fails to mix the proper water-to-milk portions, often leaving a flat or watered-down latte. However, with patience and customization, I was able to create my ideal Latte and other milk-based espresso drinks, which the De'Longhi ECAM35075SI Dinamica with LatteCrema system excels at. I would recommend the De'Longhi ECAM35075SI Dinamica with LatteCrema system if you, the consumer, can program your own drinks to your liking (again, I would not suggest the quick menu choices based on the quality of coffee I experienced). Though, once you figure out what you want (with a little grind), the De'Longhi ECAM35075SI Dinamica with LatteCrema system is a viable option.

Crystal Clear Sound For Earbuds
on May 27, 2020

Today I am reviewing the Sony WF-SP800N noise-canceling true wireless earbuds.
Pros: Deep sound; options to choose from; functional app; comfortable in-ear; good for exercising.
Cons: Not entirely noise-canceling; Charging Case is too big.
The Sony WF-SP800N noise-canceling true wireless earbuds are a compact, yet somewhat bulky earbud compared to others on the market (compare to the Apple and Samsung buds, they are slightly larger). The package includes extra earpiece sizes to swap out, just in case the ones included out of the box do not fit well in your ear. I swapped out the ones with a different pair in the box, and it allowed the earbud to fit tightly in my ear. It is important to get a tight fit so that you can utilize the noise-canceling technology. Unfortunately, with the included earbuds, I was not able to fully take advantage of the noise-canceling option. However, the noise-canceling feature is not terrible, but it is also not the best that Sony produces (I have a pair of over-the-ear WH-1000XM3 headphones, and they cancel noise out very well). The sound was still leaking in from the outside on occasion. The noise-canceling feature is something you can adjust in the app as well, but more on that below.
The WF-SP800N earbuds are comfortable, and I do like the feature when you place each earbud in your ear that it tells you how much battery life you have left (this is a great feature if you did not open your app on the phone to look at how much battery life is left). Speaking of the app, to take full advantage of the earbuds, you have to download the Sony Headphones Connect app. Once you place the earbuds in your ear, download the app and connect. Here you can adjust your noise-canceling settings, sound settings (EQ settings), and something I have never used, which is an adaptive sound to-the-environment setting. Meaning, if you are at home, you can use a GPS signal to locate where you are, set your sound settings in the app, and save it. Additionally, if you walk outside, run, or bike (like I do), you can send a signal ping, adjust the sound again for outdoors, and your earbuds will automatically adjust whenever you step outside (this is a neat technology feature). I chose to turn the noise-canceling feature up while outside when I work out because I want to tune out everything around me, whereas, at home, I chose to downgrade the noise-canceling option so that I could hear my surroundings better. Also, Sony included a "deep bass" function, which allows you to adjust the bass level on your earbuds in the app. Unfortunately, the "deep bass" was not as deep as I hoped, but there was an increased "bass" sound when I increased the level to maximum (ten). More importantly, WF-SP800N earbuds have the best sound settings I have used with any earbud I have tested. There are a lot of EQ settings that you choose, and the sound is crystal clear. I tested out some of the EQ settings, further, while listening to some Live music through Spotify. I could distinctly hear the crowd noise, the instruments, and specifically the drums (cymbals, etc.).
For making and receiving calls, the earbuds performed well during multiple call tests inside and outside my home. I asked friends and family if they could tell I was talking through Bluetooth, and they could not tell the difference; everyone said my voice was "crystal clear." I did not have any issues with calls dropping in and out, or any lag issues to report.
The earbuds come equipped with tap functions. For instance, tapping once on my left earbud when a phone call comes in allows me to answer the call. Or, if I am listening to music while working out, and I tapped one time on the right earbud, I can pause the music, or tap twice to skip a song, or triple-tap to skip backward. Sony's idea is well received here, as I had my phone in my pocket while riding my bike, so skipping a track or pausing for a moment is not convenient to pull my phone out to do so. Now, with the app, you can assign different controls and functions for the earbuds (you do not have to use the pre-determined functions that come with them). Additionally, I use my Google assistant on my phone, and I found that tapping and holding on the right earbud allowed me to ask my Google assistant questions with ease.
As far as the earbuds getting sweaty from working out, they are water/dust resistant. With an IP-55 rating, they can handle some sweat, and maybe droplets of rain and still function well (no issues here while riding a bike or running). However, I would not recommend swimming in them, as this will damage them. Also, if you are a runner like I am, I found that when I swapped out my earpiece, and tightly squeezed the earbud in my ear, the earbuds stayed in place and did not move at all. I did not experience issues with them popping out or coming loose. Again, you should size them well, and make sure they rest snug in your ear.
As for the case, I enjoyed the fact that you can charge the case, which allows you to charge the earbuds without having to keep the case plugged in (a USB C cable is provided, but not an adapter). I am not sure why an adapter was not included, but most tech companies believe we all have extra adapters that we can swap out from time-to-time. The only issue I had with the case was how bulky it is. If you were to place the charging case in your pocket, the case does not sit comfortably or easily in there. Now, the battery life on the earbuds is incredible and even better if you turn off the noise-canceling function. When I tested them with noise-canceling on, I received about nine hours of battery life (mine fell short of the advertised nine hours, but not by much). If you turn off noise-canceling, you are reportedly getting thirteen hours of battery life (for both the case and earbuds). Though with charging, I experienced a four-hour charging window, and the case with the earbuds was fully-charged.
Overall, the Sony WF-SP800N wireless earbuds have a booming sound (though the bass was not what I thought it would be), clear sound, great adaptive technology, and solid qualities (microphone and sound are terrific). I would like to see a smaller case in the future, maybe a possible wireless charging function, and better noise-canceling.

The Invisible Punch to Any Home Theater
on October 23, 2019

Sonance's speaker line offers stunning performance, with visuals to boot. The MAG8R series is no exception to that.
With my current 7.2 setups, I opted for overhead speakers for my home theater. After testing out overheads, I wanted speakers that offer a full-range of sound, including bass and crystal-clear sound. In comes, the MAG8R 2-way speakers, offered by Sonance.
Installation:
The speakers include a template for you to draw the hole (a little over 10") to cut and fit the speakers in the ceiling. I would recommend using a stud finder and heading into your attic to measure out attic beams. Also, check to make sure you do not have a conduit, or another electrical wiring in your ceiling before tracing your template, and cutting. Although this was my preference, I opted to use a hole saw to make a perfect cut in my ceiling (you could use a hand saw suited for drywall or plaster, too). When installing the speakers, the MAG8R's include wing nuts that will open and bind to the ceiling as you are tightening them in, which is a nice feature. I would also suggest having someone help you run the speaker wire from the attic to the wall that you are fishing the line to. One positive experience I had installing this speaker series was the option to pivot the tweeter and woofer towards the couch/listening area. Other speakers I looked at did not offer this feature. More so, the MAG8R speakers have a built-in magnet that allows you to attach the grille plate with ease. Make sure to install the speakers flush to the ceiling so that the grille plate can sit flush on the ceiling. Although not necessary for me, the grille plate is designed for you to paint it (to match the ceiling color if needed).
After I ran the cabling and plugged it into my receiver, this is where the fun begins.
Setup/Sound/Performance:
Note, once you plug the speaker wires into your surround, refer to your receiver manual/setup menu for enabling extra speaker channels. At first, I did not hear anything out of these. However, when I enabled the overhead channels on my Marantz receiver, the speakers "came to life." For my setup, I turned the decibel levels up, on each MAG8R, to level four. I popped in my 4K version of Apocolypse now, and oh my god, the sound. I have two subwoofers already. Yet, when the "helicopter sequence" came on, the sound traveled, literally, over my head, and it was loud and clear. The bass from the film was in front of me and over my head as well. More than likely, adjusting the speaker in the ceiling towards our couch/listening area allowed us to immerse ourselves more in the films we watched. Again, the sound was crystal-clear from where we were sitting (the speakers are about six feet above our heads). Surprisingly, since the speakers contain a built-in woofer, there were no issues with the ceiling, or speakers rattling. After testing multiple 4K films with 7.1 channels, the speakers continuously performed at an exceptional level.
Overall, the MAG8R speakers offer a loud performance but appear invisible. The installation after measuring, stud finding, and fishing cable were easy (but time-consuming). The speakers themselves have an elegant appearance while offering pivoting woofers and tweeters so that you can focus sound on any place in the room. Overall, the MAG8R speakers are a solid choice for anyone looking for ceiling speakers for their home theater.

A Solid Wire Fee Solution

Today, I am reviewing the Arlo Ultra HD Camera.
Unboxing was a breeze; the camera came with a power cable, battery, mounting hardware, magnetic mount, and a hub station. Although cumbersome, the hub has to be plugged into your internet router to use the Arlo camera system successfully.
The instructions did not include how to mount the camera, though. After I went on the internet to look, I figured out that the plastic piece included with the mounting hardware needs to attach itself to the screw. The reason? This plastic piece fits into the back of the magnetic mount. Keep this in mind when you figure out where to mount the camera.
I charged the camera for the recommended three hours. Make sure to press the eject button on the camera, physically, to insert the battery into the camera for charging. Again, the instructions were vague on doing this. While charging, I downloaded the Arlo app and created an account. This process was simple. After the camera charged, I plugged in the smart hub into my internet router, opened the app, and unplugged the camera. The Arlo app locates both the hub and camera during the setup process automatically. During the location process, the Arlo app will download a firmware update for the hub and camera (this takes about five minutes). Again, this is a seamless, automatic process.
Once the hub and camera's firmware are updated, you are ready to install the camera outside your home. Although you can do this on your own, make sure to have your application opened so that you can see where your viewing angle is inside the app. Installation was simple, and the mounting bracket is not necessary (I installed mine through vinyl siding above my garage).
After installation, the camera began detecting my movement, and it was smart enough to tell me that it "spotted a person." In the Arlo app, you can set up other settings such as "wide angle view," as well as video display settings. I chose the "4K" live video setting; for now, the camera will allow you to view live footage in 4K, it will not record 4K footage, yet (you have to pay an additional fee for cloud 4K video recording). Although disappointing, the camera does provide a clear picture. You can pinch the screen to zoom in and out of the camera, and still maintain a quality picture. The camera's built-in speaker captures the sound well. However, when using the talking feature (to talk back to someone approaching), the audio was not loud enough (I turned the speaker up and still, it was not that loud). Do not let this make or break your decision on picking this camera up. Additionally, there is an option to turn on and off the spotlight included in the camera. Since my camera is mounted above my garage, the two garage lights that were installed previously automatically turn on when motion is detected. Although not necessary for me, you have an option to turn the spotlight feature on, and off in the Arlo app. I will say, the spotlight feature is ideal for those who do not have automatic motion detecting lights (the picture was too bright). However, you can adjust the picture brightness on the camera if needed. Though, I did not need to after I turned the spotlight off (the picture was just "right").
With my high internet speeds at home (350 MBPS), I found the Arlo app easy to use, but at times, the app "lagged" when I went into the library to view footage, and change the viewing settings to my liking. Although not an issue, when playing back footage in the library, I notice that it takes the Arlo app some time to load. Again, this is not a big deal, but keep in mind that you may experience lag with playback and setting changes.
Now, the best feature that the Arlo Ultra camera provides is that it records when it detects motion; the Arlo Ultra does not continuously record (although you can pay for this setting). The point of this feature is to save your battery. You can monitor the battery in the Arlo app, by the way. After a few days of use, the battery remains at a full charge. Expect to have the battery drain more when you continuously record, though. According to Arlo's website, expect your camera to remain charged for three to six months. Noted, you will have to remove the camera to recharge it for three hours (so do this when you are home). Although if it is too cumbersome for you to remove the camera from the magnetic plate to charge it, you can install the charging cable into the device. However, this defeats the purpose of the "no cable needed" idea.  Additionally, Arlo includes a full year of thirty-day cloud storage (this trumps what Nest does, which asks you to pay five dollars per month for continuous recording/cloud storage). Other features include an auto-tracking option (this is a "pay for" feature).
Overall, the Arlo App is easy to use. However, app lag issues do not provide a "seamless" user experience (it takes too long to load videos and connect to the camera). The camera itself was a breeze to set up (after some research); the picture and sound quality are fantastic. I would recommend the Arlo Ultra system for someone that does not want to drill more holes into their home to feed wires. The design of the camera and the ease of use makes this camera an ideal suitor for those who want a "do-it-yourself" home security system.

OK..but...
By Veganrichy from Elk Grove Village, Illinois
A lot of fun with the watch, initially. I enjoy the interface, and the step tracker seems to be a lot better than the one on my Charge HR. Had to fool around with my Note 5 to get the notifications to work. If you get multiple texts, you will not be able to read them per se. You may only see one text at a time, as it comes in. Bad news though, and I am rating this a 3, is because I've had this product for no more than 6 hours, and already the home button popped off the device (button on the left side of the screen).
I now have to go back to the store and return it, or get an exchange. Not sure how you are supposed to be active with this watch if the buttons pop off of it. No idea how it happened, either, I just went for a run; this is quite frustrating. Otherwise, I would have given it a solid 4 or 5 so far for the use. Furthermore, I'd like to compliment the 4 optional watch clock faces you can change via the app.

*** Watch Update ***
March 11, 2016
After a 25 minute ride in the suburbs to the nearest Best Buy that had a replacement for my watch, I am happy to say that the watch has been a success so far.
There are still some sync issues with texts coming in; I sometimes do not receive texts, but that could be based on my range near the device. Also, if anyone has a Galaxy Note 5, you will not be able to slide your finger on the device when someone is calling in to "accept," or "reject" the call. Based on Fitbit's support site, the Galaxy Note 5 is not supported -- yet -- for this feature. However, if this is not a "make or break" deal for you, then the watch would be just fine. I can still see who is calling me on the watch, which is fine. If I wanted to do the above aforementioned feature, I would have bought a gear s2 watch, instead.
Another issue I have is, if you want to buy another band for the watch, it will cost you $100 for either a Leather or Chain link watch. To me, that's a bit of robbery. Likewise, be careful if you do purchase another watch band, taking the little piece of screen out of it's housing shell is a pain in the toosh. I am serious; even when you go to charge the Fitbit Blaze, you have to pop the sucker out of the housing unit in order to place it into a cradle to charge. This to me is the WORST feature on this watch. I assume that is why one of my buttons popped off the watch, already.

Strike a perfect balance between study time and play time with Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 FE, the tablet designed to bring your projects to life.

Can the storage capacity be expanded

It contains up to 128 GB of storage. However, you can add additional storage (up to 1TB) with a Micro SD card. Depending on how many photos you take, songs you download, and notes, it is not a terrible idea to purchase a micro SD card to install on the tablet to expand your storage.

The Shark Cordless Pet Plus Vacuum with Anti-Allergen Complete Seal combines powerful suction with cordless convenience to deliver deep cleaning on all floor types. Its lightweight design and removable hand vac allow for cleaning from floor to ceiling.

Will this vacuum lay flat to clean under beds, furniture etc. ?

Hi there,

It "can" to some level, but because the actual headpiece of this gets in the way, you can only get so far underneath a bed where it cannot reach anymore. I will say that it does pick up any dust that settled under furniture well. Also, you can remove the long wand, and attach it to the accessories that come with it by itself, thus making it easier to get into small spaces.

Rest easy knowing your home is protected, whether you're there or away with Arlo Pro 4. With no wires, your camera connects directly to your Wi-Fi network so you can easily install in minutes. Spot unique details with color night vision, and see more in dark areas with the integrated spotlight. The advanced lens provides superior image quality and a wider field of view, and allows you to track and zoom on moving objects with clarity. Hear and speak to visitors clearly with two-way audio. Receive notifications and view videos that tell you a package, person, vehicle or even an animal is detected, so you can take quick action like phone a friend, sound an alarm or call emergency services with included trial of Arlo Secure. Personalize what you get notified for and create custom activity zones to ensure you only get alerts for what matters, reducing those that are less important. Arlo Secure includes cloud recordings of video clips at 2K or lower resolution for 30 days. Renewal of an Arlo Secure plan is required to maintain Arlo Secure features, including cloud storage and activity zones.

I currently have the Arlo Pro 2 with 5 cameras and want just one more. Can I use the PRO 4 as a sTANDalone hooked directly to Wi FI and do I have to purchase a SMART PLAN TO USE IT?

You will need to purchase the plan if you want it to record for you. If you do not, then your camera is a brick at this point, and will only be useful for viewing "live" feeds. The plan will allow you to record, and receive alerts.

Am I able to split the 4 cameras ( 2 cameras at different locations)?

Yes, but I would suggest checking your internet, and bandwidth connection at home to make sure you can have this many cameras connected to your home network. I have two cameras in two different locations so far, and I am not experiencing any issues.

Hi Don!

These speakers are 150 watts, per channel. Ideally, you want a receiver that can output, at the very least, 100 watts (or more) per channel to get the full-range of these.

Do the 8" speakers have an enclosure accessory for improvement of base quality?

Hi Deb!

No, they do not. However, Sonance offers fireboxes for these, as well as a way to insulate them better. Another idea is to take insulation and place it around the speakers, as to keep sound from resonating to other rooms in your home (that is at least one idea, although not necessary). I have a smaller home, and I cannot hear the speakers in the rooms from the MAG8Rs. However, my home theater system is loud as it is, so there is that.
