A White House take over however unlikely, the resulting action to restore order in D.C. is notable. Mr. Butler make killing folks appear second nature. In this case, because of the viscousness of the enemy it is understandable. The outcome is some what obvious. The good guys have to win here and save the day so that the "real" bad guys can resume being bad.

This is a coming of age movie with a fine story line. There is the gorgeous girl, Ms. LeBrock, the crazy brother, a good foil to the two main characters and an over the top party. The build up is well paced. The night out at the bar leaves something to be desired. Still the climax with pay pack to the big bro is cool. Happy ending!

Scene after scene is laced with sub plots and what is really taking place. What the viewer see is not quite what is happening. There is a huge surprise at the end. In the special features, the movie is played back with the producer and the director explaining the "why's" of how the movie was constructed. This is very helpful for those who have not read the book series. All in all this movie is very good.

This is Alfred Hitchcock at his best. Well directed, he can create mystery and scariness with just suggestion, leaving the viewer to dream up all sorts of things in one's own mind.
Brilliant acting with a super supporting cast.
First class all around!

A chance meeting between two stranger on a train platform leads the two to tempt each other with further encounters. It is an affair of the minds since the dalliance is cut short just in the nick of time.
Brilliant acting along with the soul searching that comes when one begins to go against long held moral beliefs.
This film flies in the face of today's popular culture of: "If it feels good, do it".

Ron Howard said he wanted to do a movie about the many mysteries of fire and how it lingers waiting to kill. His dilemma was CG at the time was fake looking. After much experimenting, talking to the best fire experts of the time he finally finds a way where he can use real fire in the movie for maximum effect and realness.
To say the least, fire is one of the main characters in the movie besides Russell, De Niro, Donald Sutherland and a very young William Baldwin.

In this Cruise classic every repressed teen guy wishes he was Tom Cruise. With a girl like De Mornay, who would not be on top of the world? What is not to like? It is funny, suggestive and relates a story of fun rebellion lurking in the back of most teenager's minds back then and still today.

Money in all generations be they past or today seems to be universal in it's corrupting qualities. With the likes of Elizabeth Taylor, Rock Hudson and the great new James Dean, film maker George Stevens does a brilliant job bringing to the screen life about the Texas oil boom and the people behind it.
Because of a car accident, this film would be Dean's final movie.
Dallas and J.R. Ewing could only dream of being this good.
Woody S. Van Dyke's The Thin Man (1934) comes to DVD in fine style -- a gleaming new transfer off of a beautiful (if not perfect) source in very good sound, and with decent if not too ambitious bonus selections. The movie was out on laserdisc at least twice, but neither of those editions look as good as this new transfer, the night images of which (of which there are many, this being a mystery) glisten like silver sprayed on a velvety black background, while the fully lit shots reveal the texture of the fabric in the men's suits and the woman's gowns. There are small flaws in the source at various points, the last reel has some rips that have been repaired, and some of the focus isn't ideal -- and a flock of vertical scratches appear in the image at 71 minutes in, during a night scene, but generally this is about as good a presentation as the movie has received since the last time it was projected on a cinema palace-size screen, about 70 years ago. Someone spent a little time producing this disc, too, because there are 28 chapters in the 91 minute film, which is the way movies of this type and vintage should be treated. The disc opens up on the menu, which is structured very simply and offers a selection of the trailers from this and the subsequent five "Thin Man" movies, through 1947's Song Of The Thin Man (the trailer of which runs close to three minutes), all of which look to be in excellent condition and whet the appetite for the release of those movies.

This first of the "Thin Man" series and the best of them started a line comedy, romance and mysteries. Through in a lovable dog and how could the studios go wrong. This type of film was copied later but were short because the team of Powell and Loy could not be duplicated.
The film gives a decent (Hollywood) picture of life in the mid 1930's
Very well done.

Dean's agent pick the correct film for Mr. Dean to start his career. With the fine direction of Elia Kazan and a Steinbeck novel for material the timing was perfect. A touching story of human interaction, Mr. Kazan traces people attempting to move through life successfully. An Oscar went to Jo Van Fleet for best supporting actress. One of the best films from the 1950's.
