Hits the mark on most levels

I was a bit dissatisfied with "Mockingjay: Part 1"...it felt like a segmented cash-in in order to stretch out the finale. Thankfully, "Mockingjay: Part 2" brings the Hunger Games series to a satisfying close. Most characters receive a resolution of some sort, and though I'm sure it doesn't follow the book exactly, I was accepting of the results. If you're a fan, you're already invested and will probably buy this regardless. However, if you've yet to check out this series, do so knowing that it's a cut above the other PG-13 tween stuff out there. I'd give this movie a 3.5/5 stars, and the series as a whole a 4/5.

It's Castaway...in space!

Ok, I'm sure the science isn't perfect–who knows what going to Mars will be like in a few decades–but "The Martian" delivers a realistic look on what dangers may await. This is basically Matt Damon's "Castaway"...he gets stranded on Mars and has to survive with meager supplies until a rescue mission can be launched. There are no alien encounters here, this is simply a survival drama. While "Gravity" delivers more eye-candy via its 3D presentation, I feel that this movie is probably the more solid space drama. I found myself continuously engaged despite the lack of action (that's a rarity for me). Definitely give it a watch...or a buy if you're a sci-fi aficionado.

A bit pricey, but delivers what it promises

After hearing mixed things about the official Sony Gold headset, I figured I'd give this Turtle Beach one a try. It's a notch above it in price, but it does deliver a solid surround sound experience and is easy to configure with the PS4. The wireless range is respectable, the mic is on par with others in its class, and the battery life is a reliable 15 hours as advertised. However, I did run into a roadblock while trying to get it to work with the PS3 (even though it's advertised as being able to work with both). As of right now, it seems I'll have to find a driver somewhere to remedy this problem...so you may have to as well.
NOTE: There is one annoying feature that's worth mentioning: When the headset is on, the Turtle Beach icons on the left and right ear cups blink constantly. As far as I know, there's no way to turn this off. If you're by yourself, this is of little annoyance...but if you're trying to use it in a dark room when someone else is trying to sleep, it may be a nuisance. Just a heads-up on that.

As your opponent moves toward you, you know you can take him. Sure he looks tough, but there are telling signs of his weaknesses and you know you can knock him out with just a few quick jabs. You dart out of the way and throw him to the ground in one swift motion. You live for this feeling. Street Fighter 5: Glorified Beta Test Edition

This is an extremely disappointing launch for SF5. For starters, there's no Arcade mode to speak of...that means no way to fight against the CPU in 2 out of 3 round battles with a boss at the end (a staple of the SF series and pretty much EVERY fighting game since the 90s). The story mode is scant: You only fight 2-4 one round battles with CPU opponents and get some still comic frames with dialogue. I'm totally ok with the still drawings–they're excellent–it's just that, again, there needs to be more of it.
Survival mode is pretty much bleh...just your typical one round battles for a set number of matches depending on the selected difficulty (its only real value is for earning extra colors and fight money). Furthermore, veterans of the SF series will notice some other subtle things that are unfinished...such as no special normal attacks that trigger when close to the opponent. Online VS. features are lacking as well: There's no spectator mode and the servers have connection issues–it's pretty bare bones.
On a positive note, the gameplay, sound, and animations are all great and what you'd expect from a next-gen Street Fighter game...though the character roster seems a little thin at just 16 fighters. 6 more characters and additional modes are coming as DLC this year (potentially for free, depending on how much in-game money you earn), but the fact still remains...there's not much here at the moment.
Unless you're an eSports tournament player, you'd best stay away from this one until the kinks are straightened out. It really does feel like a glorified beta.

Essential guide for 100% completion

Metal Gear Solid 5 is the most massive game in the Metal Gear series by far, and the only one I'd really say a guide is mandatory for. Thankfully, this one is quite thorough. Detailed strategies for tackling every mission task are included, as well as essential data for finding every blueprint and secret the game has to offer. Also, there's a section that explains the entire Metal Gear storyline to date...a nice feature for those new to the series (or for those who've had trouble soaking in all the details over the years–which is totally understandable). Need I say more? Definitely buy this guide if you plan on getting 100% completion.

Not quite a classic, but stands on its own

Jurassic World does feel like a quick cash-in on the "Jurassic" series in some ways. The plot tries to harken back to the first movie as much as it can, but it comes nowhere near re-capturing the heart and freshness the original had. Instead, go into this one expecting a futuristic take on the Jurassic Park formula with lots of action and special effects. There's plenty of dinos, some satisfying fight scenes between them, and enough to make this movie enjoyable on its own (as long as your expectations aren't too high). Aside from some hokey elements--like the mention of using Velociraptors for military applications--Jurassic World is pretty solid. Just leave your thinking cap off for this one.

A visceral revival of the Mad Max series

Over two decades have passed since the last Mad Max movie, so naturally they couldn't get Mel back for this one–but Tom Hardy works well as a stand-in. Fury Road is a (mostly) non-stop thrill ride of car chases and special effects; everything that made the original movies great is on full display here with all cylinders firing. If you like gritty post-apocalyptic mayhem, definitely buy this one.

Mel Gibson became an international star with the post-apocalyptic Mad Max films, all three of which - Mad Max, The Road Warrior, and Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome -- are collected in this box set.

Stylish packaging for the first 3 films

This box set includes the first 3 Mad Max movies on blu-ray: Mad Max (1979), Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior (1981), and Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome (1985). The packaging for this set is a tin box housing a regular blu-ray case, which contains the movies across 3 discs. The tin case is nice, but it doesn't have the title printed on the side (the traditional blu-ray case inside does, however).
Despite their age, these films hold up pretty well on blu-ray…but don't expect much in terms of special features here. In the wake of the new Fury Road sequel, I recommend re-watching these classics–and this is the best way to do so for a reasonable price.

Pricey, but great sound quality / mic function

The Razer Kraken Pro is comparable to other brands' headsets in the $60-$80 price range. It's not wireless--and you probably ARE paying a little more for the stylish design--but it's a safe choice for an immersive gaming / movie experience. You'll get deep bass and solid surround sound function with this one, and the pull-out retractable mic is a nice feature (this ensures the mic will never be in your way when not in use).
Take note that this headset does not connect via USB; it uses the 3.5mm standard audio jack which has a splitter for the mic function. The leathery ear cushions are definitely made of a higher quality material than your typical $20-$40 price range headphones. It may feel tight at first...but after a few break-in sessions you'll feel right at home with it.

Part 2 in the 4 movie saga

The Hunger Games movies are a cut above the average tween fare in my opinion, and "Catching Fire" is no exception. "Catching Fire" focuses less on the Hunger Games and more on the drama and goings on behind the scenes for the contestants themselves–until about 2/3 through the movie.
The acting, wardrobe, and set pieces are all nicely done; pretty much what I expected out of this second entry in the franchise. As a PG-13 movie, it goes easy on the violence…but not on story. 4/5 stars from me.
