Fast and Reliable
on December 13, 2022
Posted by: jailoliv
I’ve lost count of how many USB hubs I have tried. They all were lagging, sometimes caused screen flickering, and so on although they all claimed Thunderbolt. But this j5create hub is different in a very good way. No flickering, is fast, powers up my MacBook through a USB-C port, and my external SSD drive performs flawlessly when connected to this hub.
Most similar hubs would support only 4K at 30Hz, but this supports 4K at 60Hz. That is appropriate for most video and photo editing. I tried it with multiple monitors and the results were stunning. Way better than I expected.
I like that it comes with a MagSafe kit and that it adds more needed ports, including an Ethernet jack. I didn’t find any need for the included audio jack, but it is there if you need it.
What is most impressive about this 4K60 Elite Pro USB4 Hub is that it is extremely portable, but it still delivers a lot more than many much bigger hubs that I've tried. I only hope that it lasts a long time.
Highly recommended.

Good Video Quality and Very Bright
on December 13, 2022
Posted by: jailoliv
The first thing you will notice when installed as that this Wyze floodlight is very bright. That brightness allows the camera to pick up every detail at night. No fuzzy images. I believe it is so bright because it is wired. Otherwise, it would drain the battery very quickly, which would force the manufacturer to limit the light output.
Overall quality is very good for the price point. That applies not only to the light, but also to the camera and image quality. It is “only” 1080p, not 4K, but it is clear enough
An SD card is included but my recommendation is to buy a bigger SD card to save the videos. The other option to store them on the cloud using Wyze Camp Plus subscription. They offer a free trial, but after the trial period, you will have a monthly cost. There are advantages using the cloud, but that is up to you to decide.
Like other Wyze cameras, you can set zones so that it doesn’t warn you about people on the sidewalk unless they get into your property. That is a common feature in newer cameras, and you will be happy to use it. If you don’t set up the zone you want to monitor, you will probably regret and go back to set it up. Unfortunately, it doesn't recognize shapes and for a couple of very windy days, it kept alerting me because it was detecting the movement of a small tree.
Connecting to Wi-Fi was easy as the setup is simple. Installation takes some time, but it is not hard. This is a good brand and I’m glad that the price is good too.

As Good as Always
on November 13, 2022

I have been using McAfee for years and it protects my computers and other devices without noticeable performance issues. With this newer version, McAfee continues to provide all that. However, I've had issues right after my computer starts. It has only happened twice within a week, but it has kept my windows taskbar from displaying for up to 11 minutes. It seems to be related to it updating right after a Windows update, but I could see on Task Manager that it was the only app at one hundred percent CPU utilization. My computer is fairly new with Intel i7, NVidia GPU, 16 GB ram, and SSD drives, so it was a strange experience. When it finally finished whatever it was doing, performance went back to normal.
Other than that issue, everything works well. I could go on and on detailing its protection, but what if found worth mentioning is the ID protection. It makes you feel overwhelmed of information about how vulnerable you are on the Internet. So many breaches and most of the passwords you use is in the hands of millions of hackers out there. My recommendation is that you use McAfee's password manager and generate unique complex password for each site you use. Don't share passwords among sites and use a two-factor authentication until newer technology gets rid of passwords altogether.
The VPN part is one of the most loved features to me. I hate sites targeting me with ads related to my location, even when I set my browser not to track, since your IP address, which you usually can’t hide, can feed them with information you didn’t want to share. With VPN, they never know where you’re coming from.
I still recommend. The taskbar issue is probably a bug and I hope it will be fixed sometime soon if it hasn’t already.

Doesn't Promote Exercise but It's Fun
on November 7, 2022
Posted by: jailoliv
First, it doesn’t look fancy or out of the ordinary. It mostly looks like a regular bike for kids. It is simple but nicely built. Assembly was minor and in no time, it was ready to go.
To start, your kid just kicks it with his/her feet and there it goes. If they never rode any bike before, it would take some learning to balance it but it should take less time than a regular bike
Here are pros and cons I found:
Pros:
• Minor assembly. No more than 10 minutes or so.
• Relatively fast charge
• Fun. I wish I had one when I was a kid.
Cons:
• No pedals. Once battery runs out, it will need to be carried.
• No exercise.
This is like a balance bike I gave my daughter when she was younger. The difference is that it has a motor.
As I listed in the cons above, it does not promote exercise and the fact it has no peddles means that when the battery runs out, you need to push it back to charge. Nevertheless, it is fun, and a good excuse for you and your child to at least get out of the house.

Convenient and Feature Rich
on October 21, 2022
Posted by: jailoliv
First, let me tell you that setting up takes a bit of time. It is not difficult, but it is not as simple as I wish it would be, but once you get it installed and the app is set up, it is a breeze to use. It works with all major digital assistants and smart home hubs such as Alexa, Apple HomeKit, and Google.
I’ve used a smart lock for years. Interestingly, that lock also belongs to Yale and is called Augusta. My major issue with Augusta was that the Wi-Fi module (or hub) was completely separate from the lock itself, requiring it to be connected to a power outlet. It has always been very inconvenient because it has to be very close to the door. Anyplace else, it won’t work. But this Yale Assure Lock 2 comes with a module that is inserted inside. No need to find an outlet. The downside of that convenience is that it will surely drain the battery much quicker as any Wi-Fi device does.
Although my major concern with this product is that it doesn’t have a physical key, the keypad makes that type of key obsolete. Still, I miss it as I’m not sure how it works when the battery runs out. Will I be locked out? I believe there’s a way and I will probably find it when I actually read the manual, but a physical key would be a no brainer.
There’s a lot to like such as automatically unlocking when you get to the driveway or unlocking from anywhere in the world for a family member for instance, or auto locking even if you forget to do so when you leave home or go to bed. You can also invite people with permanent or temporary access. All that through the app on your phone.
I love the fact that the keypad is very discreet and small. The only issue is that you have to press the logo to light up the numbers, not just touch it as you’d expect from a touch screen. Not the case here.
The only feature missing is fingerprint reading. That is becoming common for many other manufacturers, and I really wish they had incorporated that in this model.

Convenient

As with most HP printers these days, this OfficeJet Pro 8034e was quickly setup and ready to go in just a few minutes.
The integration with my phone works really well, making it an extra feature to the printer. Because I no longer fax using a POTS line anymore, I couldn't test that function, but all others worked without a glitch. I was able to print and even scan from my iPhone Pro Max 14. Even from a remote location I could print a recipe for my wife at home. She loved it.
It is fast for daily print jobs and with the included one-year ink subscription, you can print almost as much as you want during the whole year, except if you print thousands of pages per month.
Overall, this is an excellent printer. My only concern is that you have to remember to cancel your subscription after one year, unless you want to keep it and pay monthly. The good news is that HP has many affordable plans depending on how much you print. I would usually complain about this type of bait, but I’ve used a subscription like that and because I was not printing much, HP reached out and suggested I changed it to a much less expensive plan. I’m talking about less than $2.00 at the time of this review and you can do with just two clicks.

Thinnest Premium Keyboard Ever
on October 10, 2022
Posted by: jailoliv
With a low-profile design, it is the slimmest I’ve ever seen on a gaming keyboard. That alone would have convinced me to buy it, but it is much more than that. There’s no plasticky feel here. It is plain solid, sturdy, brushed aluminum alloy. It looks and feels premium.

Using the wireless dongle, latency is a mere one millisecond, which is adequate even for the most demanding games. Many monitors have a much higher latency than that. When using Bluetooth, latency was comparatively much higher and there were some glitches, which I’m mostly blaming my computer Bluetooth since I’ve experienced similar issues with other keyboards. However, it seems that it supports Bluetooth 4 instead of 5. Still, for gaming, Bluetooth should not even be considered.
Default backlighting is not overwhelming, which is great. I don’t need my keyboard lighting competing with my computer screen and it doesn’t. It is there to add coolness and provide visual clues when the room is not lit enough. It does that well and you can customize it fully, even per individual keys.
Being a gaming keyboard, it gives you a lot of customization with keymapping. I have a lot to experiment yet, but I like what I have seen so far. It is just a big louder than I like, but it’s not bad.

Again, Corsair K100 is incredibly thin, but no compromise that I can tell. Battery seems to last forever even with backlighting on. They say it lasts between 50 and 200 hours. The upper range is for no backlighting. In my experience, the battery is still going after about a week, using it for an average of about 4 or 5 hours.
The software to customize it is also commendable. With it, you can set the keyboard to PlayStation mode. That was unexpected but very welcome. Of course, you can customize keys, RGB lights, and so on.
Definitely recommend.

Sturdy and Premium Look and Feel
on October 6, 2022
Posted by: jailoliv
No doubt this is the best multi charger stand that I have ever tried. Believe me, I’ve owned over a dozen. Some met my needs, but I was never happy about one or more things. Sometimes, it was the overall look, plasticky material, slow charge, lightweight, and so on.
This Insignia wireless charger stand not only looks premium with its mix of stainless steel and other high-quality material, but it also charges my iPhone 14 Pro Max, Apple Watch 7, and AirPod pro, all at the same time. And it even has room for my wife’s phone if she wanted to use it.
Another great thing about it is that is very heavy. This is the type of device you don’t want it to be lightweight, especially if you keep it at bedside. That used to be one of my main complaints about other similar chargers. Every time I would accidently hit them, they would fall with my phone, watch, and everything else. That doesn’t happen to this one.
The MagSafe holder for the phone has a strong magnet, and it swivels as needed. The whole stand is very sturdy, and the included charger supplies enough power to all devices.
The cons? I usually try to point out something I didn’t like, but I just can’t find anything. I just wish they had a model that also included an area for an iPad, but that would be a challenge I believe.

Coffeehouse at Home
on October 4, 2022
Posted by: jailoliv
As coffee lovers, we have had several espresso coffee systems. Some looked nice, but they were all more complicated than necessary. Getting the right pressure was the main challenge. It took many weeks to figure it out and we’re the type of people who love gadgets. To be honest, I wasn’t expecting this Ninja Expresso/Coffee Barista to be any different.
But this Ninja Espresso & Coffee Barista makes that process easier and faster. Sure, puritans will say I’m cheating by using the capsules, but I’d rather “cheat” and have a nice espresso before heading to work than just not having it because it takes too long to get it right. Having the option of making just one single cup when it’s just you or filling up a mug for take-away is so practical.
I loved the Over Ice function which keeps the ice from melting quickly, avoiding the watered-down taste of most iced coffee. We have been trying almost every recipe in the included book and they all come out just as good as you’d get at a specialized store or coffeehouse. Sometimes better because you can adapt to your liking. We’ve tried lattes, cappuccinos, and even a cookie coffee. Creamy and smooth were the words that came out of our mouths.
We have a separate milk frother, but with the one built into this system, we are not sure we need to keep that one anymore. Unfortunately, the one thing we didn’t like much in this system was cleaning the milk frother as it is not as easy as everything else. Not a huge deal, but I had to mention
Overall, we are very impressed and definitely recommend. It is like having a coffeehouse in your kitchen. In the long run, you can recoup the cost in a matter of months just by not going to that coffeehouse every day.

Immersion and Versatile Bluetooth Switching
on October 2, 2022
Posted by: jailoliv
Working from home is here to stay for many people, and even those like me that have hybrid jobs, virtual meetings is now more common than in person. That’s when you need a quality audio system so you don’t miss anything, and people can hear you unmistakably clear.
I’ve used several headsets and never really liked any for video or audio conferences. First, it’s hard to hear the other parties when there is noisy everywhere. The neighbor’s or your own dog barking, kids playing, wife working in the kitchen or her own home office and so on. But with these Jabra in-ear headphones, all those issues are handled at once.
First, the noise canceling in these headphones handles background noises, and the audio quality is one of the best for this type of headphone. I’ve used it for about 17 meetings so far and the experience has been so much better than my previous headset. Either using MS Teams or WebEx, I’ve felt immersed, and people never complained about not being able to hear what I was saying.
Second, because these are in-ear headphones, it feels more natural. That’s a big plus. I tend to be self-conscious on video calls, and regular headsets don’t let you forget that you have something over your ears. That’s something that I don’t need to worry about anymore.
But what impressed me the most was how well Bluetooth performed in my iPhone, iPad and Laptop. Not only the stable connectivity, but also being able to switch back and forth without pairing/unpairing was something I didn’t expect. It is very convenient.
I did try music and the Sound+ app. I was not expecting much, and it didn’t impress me in that regard. I’m an audiophile and I will not count this against it. My recommendation is to use it for what it is intended. It is hard not to like it.

No not yet but I believe it will soon. As far as I know, for now it only supports Nest, SmartThings, Philips Hue and IFTTT.
