Excellent, Feature-Packed Doorbell

I was very happy to get the Arlo Essential Video Doorbell, Wire-Free! For ~1.5 years, I’ve been using an Arlo Pro 2 camera system with absolutely no complaints, so I am using the product connected to the base station and my home network. There is the option of connecting it to your home network, in the event you don’t have a camera system with base station, though I have not tried it that way. I did add the optional siren to my setup, for times when my kids are home, they will know someone is at the door.
I’m very satisfied with the doorbell. The Arlo app is designed very well, integrates well into the camera system, and is fairly easy to use / maneuver. Like I had hoped, the Arlo Essential Video Doorbell, Wire-Free, integrates seamlessly with the base station. I unpacked it, charged the battery, linked it to my base station & WiFi, and installed it outside my door; very simple. I will say that the quick start guide that comes with the doorbell is much too quick, and needs to provide basic information about charging the battery, and installation; I did have to go online here and there. It does link very easily; there is a QR Code to register the doorbell on your system / with the app. The best part, is that the entire system integrates with Alexa.
Like the camera system, the beauty about this doorbell is the ability to create zones within which to monitor; you basically draw a virtual box, on the app, of what specific area you want to monitor for movement, and only alarms within that area that you define. Depending on neighbors, movements, animals, etc., it truly cuts down on false motion alarms. There are a few features that detect people, animals, and packages too, and they work extremely well. You do have to have a monthly subscription for some features, but it is cheap and it’s well worth it. The zones is great; I live in an apartment with a smaller forier, and I have rarely had aberrant alarms due to my neighbors entering / exiting their apartment.
The camera’s viewing angle (180°) is phenomenal; you really can see a delivery person head to tow, even when they are close to the doorbell, but you REALLY can also see packages and food deliveries at your door step. The night vision is very reliable and works extremely well; through the app, you can adjust the brightness level. Like with the camera system’s night vision, Arlo REALLY really needs to add an adjustment in the app so you can change the sensitivity at which the regular vision and night vision switch, because as it stands, it is automatic. The HD video is of high quality, with a small amount of time delay, which is to be expected depending on your network.
Last but not least is the ability to communicate with whomever is at your door. You can adjust the microphone and speaker for volume, activate/deactivate them too. Visitors can leave you a recorded message. You can set the system to play a message you record, when the button is pressed. This feature is really important for me, so if I step out of my apartment to run an errand, and someone rings the bell, they do not need to worry about answering it, telling the person that their Dad can’t come to the door right now, etc. Even if you are cooking or something, it is very convenient to communicate with the delivery person while you wash your hands etc., so you do not miss your delivery. Since my phone rings when the button is pressed, I can answer, no matter where I’m at; in the bathroom, or half-way around the globe. All of the features work well together without issues. The communication feature, in conjunction with the night vision and overall large viewing angle, provide MUCH more piece of mind than I ever thought a video doorbell could.

Extremely Versatile; Best I've Used
on December 3, 2020
Posted by: D1maddog1
from Spring City, PA
I tested the j5create 360 All Around Webcam (I refer to it in the remainder of the review as the 'j5create 360') for the following scenarios:
---Late 2015 Mac, using FaceTime, Zoom, and Skype
---Chromebook, using Skype and Zoom
---Lenovo laptop, Windows 10, using Zoom and Teams
OVERALL, instead of having complicated controls and menus to change the camera view to suit the meeting, it has 6 modes to choose from, to cover the type of meeting you need. There is 1 button to cycle through them. That feature alone, added to the great video and sound quality, make this webcam a 'game changer'. I don't really like that term, but working from home with different meeting formats, and keeping in contact with friends and family, it makes *something* these days, just 'easy'.
Before I finished unpacking the webcam, I noticed the cord length; it's really long, which is good when you need to snake a wire through my computer desk so no cord is visible. The cord has a captive velcro band, for when you roll up the cord. Truly useful that the plug end has a USB Type C as well as a USB Type A adapter permanently attached, so no worries about finding an adapter when you need one.
It was literally Plug and Play for the Mac, Chromebook, and Windows laptop. I tend to keep my devices updated, so the webcam just worked, without having to download any drivers. I had to go to the preferences to set it as the default camera, that's all.
There are a total of 6 display modes.
[1] Full Screen 360 which shows all individuals in the meeting, in several rows;
[2] 360 All-Around View, which displays all meeting attendees as a side-by-side line of attendees;
[3 & 4] Host Mode / Dual Host Mode, that shows the meeting host(s) large and prominent, with meeting attendees above;
[5] Single View, the way you'd use it if you alone were attending the meeting;
[6] Wide Angle View Mode, similar to #5 above, but allows more people to be in the field of view.
I successfully tried each of the 6 modes. It covers all situations I've been involved with, both for business and personal use. Out of need, I used the Full Screen 360, Host, Single View, and Wide Angle View Modes the most frequently.
The camera angle and height were great, since you could adjust the camera angle, as well as the height by way of a screw on the base. There is a ring around the camera lens (the Touch Bar) that is used as needed in the single and dual Host Modes, for picture adjustment.
There is no type of video distortion that I noticed. Audio was really good, with a minimum of 'reverberation', 'echo', or 'robotic' sound. There was no time lag or buffering that I experienced. This was a really useful thing to have these days.

Compact, Powerful & Well-Built
on November 8, 2020

I’m EXTREMELY pleased with this blender! Like any other KitchenAid product, it looks and feels like it’s made with quality materials. The matte black looks great. It’s convenient that the parts are dishwasher-safe. The ice-crushing setting works great, as do the other 3 speeds. Even given it’s speed, it’s not obnoxiously loud. It’s relatively compact. It assembles / disassembles very quickly. I love that the individual blending cups come with ‘to-go’ style lids.
It does pulverize ice very quickly when you turn it to the ice-crushing setting; it will crush ice in 10 seconds as advertised. If you need a ‘snow cone’ consistency, it is maybe about 20 seconds total. It makes frozen drinks very fast, and the ice chip size in the drink is all about the same size, so it’s easier to drink (you rarely get a ‘chunk’ of ice). It will power through milkshakes and the like. I’ve blended soup in it, and the results were very smooth in consistency.
I’m a single father with two kids (11 & 15 years old), so for a quick, nutritious 'meal', smoothies are a way to get breakfast out of the way. The three of us are working / schooling from home and that equates to three people having to be at work / school at different times. There are days that are more rushed than others. We can take an individual blending cup and put in whatever ingredients we want the night before; when we get up, we grab our cup out of the refrigerator, make our smoothies, and boom! Breakfast is done. The blender is simple to use, so the kids can, if needed, blend their own smoothie. Each cup comes with a ‘to-go’ style lid with drinking hole.
The only negative I have, and it is small, is that the blender does need extra time blending ingredients that are a bit fibrous; talking smoothies, using pineapple would take maybe 20 more seconds to blend because it’s stringy. Other than that, this blender works for 95% of the things I need it to. It’s just simple to use, and just ‘gets the job done’ very well.

Best Gaming Headset I’ve Owned
on October 23, 2020
Posted by: D1maddog1
from Spring City, PA
For one reason or another, I go through a new headset every six months or so. As my review says, this is actually the best, most functional, gaming headset I’ve owned. Long battery life, phenomenal sound, reliable performance, and comfortable enough to take you through a long day of gaming. I’ve owned headsets at a variety of price points, and this by far is the best. I hate this type of statement, but I’ll give credit where credit is due, when I say that Astro set a relatively high bar for gaming headsets.
The only Con I found, was that when chatting with friends, my voice sounded clear, but lower in volume; this wasn’t a huge enough issue though to deter someone from a purchase.
After unboxing and charging the headset (it charges fast with the USB Type-C), I plugged the transmitter into my OBOX ONE S, turned on the console, turned on the headset, and sat down to play; pairing just ‘happened’ with no intervention.
There are quite a few important features that Astro excelled at.
*BY FAR, the best feature was the flip-up-to-mute microphone boom. I routinely chat with friends, and I have young kids, so this feature was SO convenient. The boom is flexible, so it takes repeated flip-up & down without worrying like it’s going to break. Well done!
*The battery life was really great; I’ve had the headset for ~1.5 weeks, and after the 1st initial charge out of the box, I charged it for the first time the day this review was written. Product specs say 15+ hours on a full charge; I know I logged much more hours of play than that.
*The sound was incredible. I’ve owned a headset with Dolby Atmos, and I swear, that same level of sound that envelopes you with Atmos, I experienced with this headset.
*The product operates on the 2.4 GHz frequency; the range is really good inherently, but I was surprised how well it worked when I stepped away from my XBOX ONE console. And it just worked out of the box.
*The time that I spend gaming depends on a lot of factors, but averages 1-8 hours per day. These are extremely comfortable on your 8th hour of play as they were on your 1st hour of play. .
My retrospective Wish List for this headset (Gen 3?): In general, I don’t like the white on this product, because it looked ‘clunky’ and too retro, but not in a way. This was a pretty awesome headset, and the aesthetics definitely didn’t match that. For the same aesthetic reason, I REALLY wish the ear cups had some cool lighting feature; it would have also tied the headset better to the entire gaming experience.

Almost Perfect, But Missing The Mark
on September 12, 2020
Posted by: D1maddog1
from Spring City, PA
The features it has are wonderful, useful, and well thought out, but the things that it lacks (including a complete manual) will make or break. I’m an engineer; it is extremely clear that careful thought was put into the design. Both of the mechanics / technology, but also to small details (parts are color-coded, the side brushes are angled downward instead of horizontal to maximize contact with the floor / carpet, there is a small storage slot for the brush used to clean the sensors and other parts, the sloping of the docking station for when it’s placed on carpeting).
I use the ECOVACS DEEBOT OZMO T8 (I’ll refer to it as the ‘OZMO T8’ for the rest of this review) in my single-floor ~1100 square foot apartment. The only setup issue was recognizing my 2.4GHz WiFi channel, even though the OZMO T8 was within 10’ of the router. It was great to have the QR code on the robot itself. Otherwise, the app was easy to set up. It was good that you could simultaneously charge the OZMO T8 and do the initial setup.
It is ingenious that the OZMO T8 has a sensor to recognize carpet versus floor, such that when the ‘Auto-Boost Suction’ was set to ON, the vacuum suction would increase when it went onto carpet. I like that it will let you select from four vacuum suction levels. It’s great that I can use it on another floor of the house, without [theoretically] losing the map the unit made of the previous one.
The unit has great flexibility in scheduling cleaning routines, but I’m used to scheduling them during the night. The unit has a ‘Do Not Disturb’ setting which turns off the light and speaker, however, if that function is activated, it does perform scheduled cleanings
My 2-star rating is a direct result of a poorly-written manual and the following additional reasons:
MOPPING: The manual shows the location of the water reservoir, how to maintain it, and how to troubleshoot it, but DOES NOT explain the associated functions, how to activate the cleaning, what the overall settings mean, etc. After using this for ~1.5 weeks, I still do not know if the mop function is active all of the time or not. There is nothing whatsoever about how to set up the unit for mopping, if I can even use detergent, when to use the four Water Flow Levels, or how to get the most efficient mopping from the unit. I was not unfortunately able to do a thorough assessment of the mopping capability.
CLEANING: The map that is developed when the OZMO T8 runs (to map the areas) is not retained. There are a few screens to get to if you want to reset the map the vacuum previously stored, so I did not accidently erase it; the unit and/or app did not retain it. It does not need to run many times to develop the map, but everytime it needs to re-learn (re-map) the same areas, you cannot take advantage of Advanced Mode, to set up Virtual Boundaries and Custom Cleaning. It could waste a lot of time waiting for the unit to re-map the area, only to have to define Virtual Boundaries. Again, the manual has no description of what the functions mean, so if you want to unlock the full potential of the product, you will need to go through a trial and error process on the app, determining what functions work for what situations. There really needs to be a setting to activate / deactivate the auto-empty function (if there is a way, it isn’t in the manual and it isn’t well-defined in the app). The auto-empty function is loud, and is exceptionally annoying when I’m on a work / personal phone call, or when my kids are participating in their real-time virtual classroom.
The design Team for the OZMO T8 appears to have done a great job with the functions the unit uses, on the technology, and on the mechanics of operation. The manual needs a lot of work, but apart from that, there does not seem to be anything that cannot be corrected by a good app update and a major update to the firmware.

Product Goes From'Good' to Great!
on August 16, 2020
Posted by: D1maddog1
from Spring City, PA
I've used Wemo plugs for about 3 years, and I've been hoping for a smaller plug for a while. Wemo truly delivered with this product. The size does not unnecessarily restrict nearby outlets, so these are a huge plus from a logistical standpoint. Aesthetically, they are an improvement, because they are about the same width as a standard electrical wall outlet cover.
The Wemo app has always been really functional and intuitive, but 3 years ago, they were cumbersome to add to Apple Home because they lacked the QR Code and 6-digit number to manually enter.
The app is easy to set up...once that's done, these Wemo WiFi Smart Plugs take no more than ~3 minutes to set up. I'm an Apple guy, but never cared for Apple Home; that said, my Apple Home recognized them immediately after set-up, as did my XFi internet and Amazon Alexa. I typically use Amazon Alexa to activate plugs, or the Wemo app directly. When my older plugs and these new plugs are updated with the latest firmware, I feel like these smaller plugs 'activate' faster with Alexa.
My only complaint would be that the QR Code for set-up is on the side of the plug, which, once the plug is set up, can detract from home decor if the plug is visible. Apart from that, these plugs are kind of a game changer for me, because I have more freedom to place them in areas that have a size constraint. This is a total win in my opinion.

Fast Processor & Overall Speed
on August 4, 2020
Posted by: D1maddog1
from Spring City, PA
I’m very pleased with this laptop. Even before opening the box, you notice how light it is. For it’s size, it’s amazing how little weight it adds to a large brief case. Yet it is very sturdy because of the aluminum body.
Due to the SSD even turning it on for the first time was super fast. Setup was very fast; maybe 6 minutes or so. It linked quickly to my Microsoft account, at which point I installed Microsoft 365. Software updates started with little to no intervention. Perhaps I haven’t use a new PC/laptop in a while, but this laptop deserves ‘Ultra PC’ in its name; it’s just blazing fast.
I very much appreciate the selection of ports. I know for a while, the trend has been to offer as few ports as possible, to help with weight and size. I personally, have a laptop for full functionality, whether I’m watching a YouTube video on the laptop itself, or if I’m streaming it into a friend’s home theater system. In any event, the screen resolution is perfect; streamed movies have a lot of dimension and depth.
I would have liked to see fingerprint recognition, although access to the computer is fast due to the SSD. I know there are higher models than this, but I would have really liked to see a higher drive capacity.
This laptop shines with its Intel Core i5 processor. The performance is better than any PC I’ve experienced. I was on a Zoom meeting for my local school board. I simultaneously had the live YouTube presentation open of the same meeting, as well as a Word document, an Excel spreadsheet, and email. There did not appear to be any issues with either live meeting running at the same time, nor the speed of the apps.
I am impressed, and would highly recommend this to anyone. I look forward to using my laptop to help my kids during the school year, as we are starting out at least, in all-online instruction.

Immersive Gaming Experience
on June 5, 2020
Posted by: D1maddog1

I use this headset with an XBOX ONE S 'Gears of War 4' console. This is by far, the best wired headset I've ever used. I actually think it is comparable to a few brands of wireless headsets at the same price point. I play a lot of different games; when I play, the sound is immersive. The high's and low's are exactly where they need to be.
The headset is comfortable to wear for extended periods. The headband is thick but lightweight; overall, feels like great workmanship & materials. Even the cord to connect it to the controller is breaded, so it doesn't get kinked easily. The microphone boom is clear, and works well in group 'missions'.
It's JBL, so it's hard to go wrong in general. They did an excellent job on the Quantum 400.

Your Music, Elevated To A Higher Standard
on April 7, 2020
Posted by: D1maddog1
from Spring City, PA
Quick summary, these headphones are not the most price-friendly. But if you take your music very seriously, and can get them, you will not be disappointed at all with them. The sound is rich and warm, well-balanced, and powerful. No distortion. No matter what the genre. Honestly, comfortable for hours of continuous use. For so many of the songs I listened to the first evening I got these headphones, I feel like I’d never heard music at all prior. It is a personal experience unlike no other. These are absolutely remarkable!
The app is simple, well-designed, aesthetically cool looking, and has what you need to customize, including the equalizer. I like that it displays the battery level in the app. I have an iPhone 11 PRO, so it also appears where the phone battery % is located (swipe right). I have had no issues with the app or the Bluetooth connectivity. These paired and worked effortlessly with my iPhone and my Mac with no ‘drop-out’ or signal interruption.
I got these, charged them, and listened to 4-5 hours worth of songs. The sound was undescribable; immersive and impressive. I’d listen to one song, and it sounded wonderful, so I’d switch to another song to test it. It was an enthusiasm that I’d never had before, regarding earphones / headphones. After a week, I’m still taken aback when I hear a song I’ve heard before, but the first time through these Marshalls. Akin to watching a movie on a tube television, then seeing it on a 4K UHD monitor.
Due to the great ANC (Active Noise Cancellation), there were songs I’ve heard a hundred times, and was able to pick out sounds / noises that I’d never heard before; the ANC blocks everything out when set to 100% (in the app, you can adjust the level of noise cancellation). I gave them a full charge when I got them, and after >18 hours of use, the battery is still at 60%; I always keep the ANC on and the volume up.
I listened to many genres of music and hundreds of artists, and all of the songs sound remarkable. Anything on the billboards currently, way back to Billie Holiday that was recorded in monaural (mono; like, before stereo sound). Rap, rock, country, show tunes, jazz, pop, electronic, classical. It just all sounded perfect; crisp, yet velvety & warm.
The packaging / box was high-quality, thick material; retro and modern at the same time. It was exciting to unwrap. They were packed really well. The canvas (denim-look) bag is soft inside, has a drawstring, and the canvas material is thick and durable. The bag easily will hold the 3.5mm plug, the charging cable, and the headphones themselves without having to force everything to fit. The USB Type-C charging cord as well as the 3.3mm plug, have cross-hatched grips at the end of the wire, for functionality as well as for the retro look. The 3.5mm cord is comlimented by partial coiling, reminicent of amplifier wires.
The headphones are light, but yet have some weight to them; they have substance. You can tell the materials of construction are thick, solid, durable; they feel good in your hand as you put them on. And you can feel the textured exterior of the cups and head band, reminicent of the exterior of the Marshall amplifiers I’ve stood 3’ from. The ear cups fit my ear perfectly. The padding that contacts your ears feels like kid leather; they gently lay against your ears, hour after hour, still remaining comfortable, with no irritaton. Ears can get sweaty, but that’s what I’d expect, since they seal out noise so well. I do wish the small placards on the band above each cup, designating ‘L’ & ‘R’ were the same brass (not sure what metal) that the multi-directional control knob was made out of; this was used on previous iterations. The multi-directional button works great and is intuitive to use out of the box, though I wish it were just a bit longer. I like how the ‘M’ button and the ‘ANC’ button are integrated into the hinge where the band meets the ear cups.

Head to Head with the Upright Vacuum
on January 2, 2020
Posted by: D1maddog1
from Spring City, PA
I’ve used the LG CordZero Bagless Cordless Handheld/Stick Vacuum - Matte Red (from this point forward, I’ll call it the ‘LG CordZero’) for 2 weeks, about the same amount of time that my bagless upright has been sitting in the closet. Most of us can attest that during the holiday season, your house / apartment is the hardest time of the year to keep clean. Also, it was the best time to test this product.
I expected that I’d use the LG CordZero for quick clean-ups, but with two batteries, great suction, convenient storage, some basic cleaning attachments, and three suction modes, in conjunction with no cord and no bag, the LG CordZero has been the go-to cleaning tool. The LG CordZero has powered through pine needles, wrapping paper / bow / ribbon remnants, and endless amounts of crumbs and dirt on the floor from food and extra foot traffic from guests. I was kind of shocked and very happy to see that it even cleaned my living room floor (and tables, sofa, rug) of foil and paper confetti after New Year’s Eve; I used the Turbo mode, but may have not even had to. Just to add detail, that is one push forward and one pull backward to clean the width of the cleaning head (versus the need to go back and forth). For its size, the LG CordZero is a powerhouse with a normal suction/speed mode, a medium mode, and the Turbo mode.
It is extremely light weight, so easy to just pick up and clean. The handle ‘stick’ part telescopes, so it can be adjusted for the user’s height; I’m 6’1”, and I found it to be comfortable to use. The handle has areas to place your fingers while you clean, making it comfortable and ergonomic during use, especially cleaning around corners and under furniture. My kids are 10 & 14, and they can easily use it. It’s very easy to maneuver. Very easy to clean. It comes with a very sturdy plastic/metal stand that has a place to store the two attachments and the extra battery (with the ability to charge that extra battery). The ability to use it with just the attachments is great for cleaning tables, in between the sofa pillows, and along baseboards. I have a rug in my living room sitting area that I normally have to sweep when I clean it; the LG CordZero goes from the rug to the carpet to the kitchen floor with no adjustments and no loss in efficiency. I have a 1000 ft2 2-bedroom apartment that I cleaned using one battery and a small portion of the 2nd (for the confetti).
In the next model, I’d like to see a little longer battery life and a bit more extension for the handle. Other than that, the LG CordZero far exceeded my expectations.

So you’ll worry less about running out of ink, and save a lot on replacement ink. The ET-3850 features an auto document feeder, fast printing with outstanding print quality, productive paper handling, a high-resolution flatbed scanner, and a large color display – making it the perfect printer for your home office.

When you use a highlighter on the printed text, does the ink bleed?

It probably depends on the brand of highlighter, but I have not seen the ink bleed or smear when using a marker or highlighter.

My New arlo Wireless doorbell is not recording videos~ Why. Haow can i sync to my base station

Hi. There are base stations that allow you to plug in a USB flash drive for video recording, but that is primarily on the older base stations. I have this doorbell and the Arlo Pro 2 camera system, and if I want to record longer pieces of video and allow for storage, I had a cloud storage subscription. It is cheap, depending on the number of cameras, and it works without issues.

This high-definition, plug-and-play webcam, is ideal for any space. Capture a 360° panoramic view of the room or focus on specific presenters with the various display modes. how do you get a different height ?

There is some adjusability. The camera is attached to the base via a screw, so it gives the ability to increase or decrease the height. It's meant more as a 'fine tune' for getting the height you need.

How long is the cord? USB only? No wireless connectivity? I like the 360, but I'm thinking this one's not an option.

The cord is long, at 9.8 feet (300cm). No wireless connectivity. The cord has a USB Type C on the tip, with a USB Type A adapter attached to the cord as well.

The Philips Hue HDMI Sync box adds premium surround lighting to your home theater by syncing your Hue smart lights with movies, music and video games. Watch, listen and play with more wonder and excitement as your lights dance, flash, dim and brighten with your screen. Requires Hue color capable lights and a Hue Bridge (sold separately).

Will this work with every generation of Hue bulbs?

To operate your Sync Box, you need to have a 2nd Generation Hue Hub. If lights are compatible with that hub, they can be expected to work with the Sync Box.

This 510W Samsung 7.1.4-channel soundbar system features Bluetooth connectivity for wireless media streaming from compatible devices.

Are the rear speakers truly wireless or do they require a wireless module that the speakers plug into?

They are truly wireless; they only require a power plug into the wall electrical outlet.

External ambient noise keeps you aware of your surroundings, while a background noise filter delivers crisp, clear voice calls. With Bluetooth connectivity, these Jabra Elite wireless headphones are easy to pair to a mobile device.

Does the Jabra-Elite 65t have multipoint capability? And does it announce the calls coming in?

RE: announcing calls, yes, it will announce the name of the caller (if it's in your contacts) or the caller's phone number, if you have your cell phone set up to do so.

I'm not certain what multi-point capability is, so I can't speak to that.

How do you use them when watching a movie on a plane??

If you have a movie downloaded on your smart device, they would just pair as they normally would with that device. For movies broadcast on the airplane, [I HAVE NOT tried this] a friend told me that I could use the Aluratek bluetooth adapter (available at Best Buy) in transmit mode. It has a 'receive' function (say, if you want to play music from your iPhone to a stereo) and a 'transmit' function.
