A great fitness tracker

I have two Fitbit devices, one is their Aria scale and I have this. I went with the Charge 2 tracker as I didn't want their Blaze or Surge watches and I wanted something that did a bit more than the Alta. The step count in the Charge 2 is pretty accurate. I have compared it to my Android Wear smart watch and the tracker that's built into my phone. The Charge 2 is more conservative but it's also more accurate when compared to my other two devices.
It does have trouble automatically picking up an exercising I'm doing but it's easy to manually start something. I wish it had a built-in GPS but I always have my phone on me and it will rely on that for tracking my walks. The heart rate monitor is pretty accurate and compared well with a blood pressure device at my grocery store. I like getting the nudges every hour or so reminding me to walk at least 250 steps and the breathing exercises really do help me relax. I wish it would remind me to do the breathing exercises instead of having me manually start them.
Sleep tracking does not work for me. I have gone through three Charge 2 trackers and none of them can track my sleep. Best Buy was nice enough to exchange each one I brought back but it looks like Fitbit (or the Charge 2) doesn't like my sleeping pattern. My mattress has a built-in sleep tracker so I don't necessarily need my Fitbit to do the same thing but it would still be nice to have especially for those nights where I'm not at home.
Fitbit's app is nice and continually, automatically syncs with the Charge 2. It automatically recognized the Charge 2 and set it up with my phone. I linked the device to my Fitbit account and that was it. Everything else is automatic. I track my steps, walking exercises, water consumption, calorie, and weight all through the app.
I would have given the Charge 2 a perfect score but I don't like the lack of sleep tracking (for me) and having to manually start a breathing exercise. I did have my wife wear my Charge 2 once, overnight, and it tracked her sleep just fine. I think it's just me but still, I would think that Fitibit would have sampled a large audience when implementing this feature.
Other than that, it's a great tracker that's small and easy to use.

The best Android Wear watch on the market

I've gone through a bunch of Android Wear watches over the last 3 years in hopes of finding the right one. I would either return a model or end up selling one for various reasons ranging from a lack of software updates, poor performance, or the use of outdated internal hardware.
Enter the Asus ZenWatch 3. It is the best Android Wear watch I have used and I plan on keeping it. This was supposed to be the first watch running Android Wear 2.0 but Google has delayed that until February so Asus continued with the ZenWatch 3 launch and it will be one of the first watches to receive the update. Asus has equipped the watch with a new Qualcomm chip, the Wear 2100, made specifically for smart watches. Performance has increased a bit over the last generation of processors while battery life has increased by quite a bit.
The ZenWatch 3 is buttery smooth. I have owned it for almost two months now and not once have I experienced stuttering or freezing. Battery life is enough to get me through the day. I leave the display on (it goes into a darker power saving mode) and the watch is usually down to about 32%-45% by the time I plug it in (about 17 hours). It would be at about 68% by the same time with the display turning off, I didn't see any reason to enable this feature unless you're trying to go 2 days without recharging this.
Notifications pop up almost at the same time on the watch as they do my phone, the vibration is strong enough that I always feel it, and the built-in speaker and microphone have surprisingly good quality for their size. There have been times when I've taken a call using my watch because my phone was in another room. I could hear everyone clearly and they could hear me without problems.
My main draw to this watch was the design. It actually looks like a watch instead of coming off like one of those square Casio calculator watches from the 80's. The display is round and it doesn't have the fat tire look like the Fossil, Michael Kors, and Moto 360 watches do. That is a huge plus that puts this watch above most others. The rose gold accents are nice and the brown stainless steel is durable. I'm not a big fan of the brown leather straps that it comes with but Asus is working on coming out with new colors.
The ZenWatch 3 recharges with a cable that magnetically attaches, this is not a QI wireless enabled watch. I'm OK with that though. The charger automatically snaps into place and it features Qualcomm's quick charge technology. The watch will reach 60% power (from 0%) in 15 minutes, it normally takes mine about half an hour before it is fully recharged (starting at 35%).
Asus has included a bunch of watch faces and they can be fully customized using their Android-only app. There are a bunch of different options from Google as well. You can also download new watch faces if you don't like any of the included ones.
There are two features missing from the ZenWatch 3 which are found in others: NFC and a heart rate monitor. I don't care about the heart rate monitor, I'm not going to wear my watch while exercising as the leather will get ruined rather quickly. The lack of NFC means that the ZenWatch 3 cannot be sued for Android Pay. It's something I wish they would have included but it's also something that I won't really miss.
The ZenWatch 3 may not be the most feature-packed smart watch on the market but it is the best looking Android Wear watch because it actually looks like a watch. The price for this is less than the extremely expensive watches from Huawei, the added feature of the Huawei Watch (the heart rate monitor) isn't worth the $350 price tag over the ZenWatch 3.
I highly recommend this watch for anyone on the market for an Android Wear smart watch that actually looks like a watch and won't break the bank.

Microsoft has crafted the best pen for their product. The new Surface Pen features more points of pressure, has a built-in magnet so it clips onto the side of Surface devices (the Pro 4, Book, and Studio), the built-in button is more discrete yet still functional, and the back of the Pen functions as an eraser while having a programmable button that lets you open OneNote, take a screen shot and open OneNote, or wake Cortana up.
The new Pen is above and beyond the pen included with the Surface Pro 3. It's more comfortable to write with and has added functionality. Surface Pro 3 users can buy the new Pen though they won't get the added benefit of the increased number of pressure points, I'm also not sure if the magnet in the Pen will stick to the Pro 3.
Overall, you can't go wrong with the Surface Pen. It works great on the Studio, Pro 4, and Book with (very) limited compatibility with the Pro 3 and Surface 3. I highly recommend it for anyone who wants to shake up the color of the Surface device or if they ended up buying a Core m3 Surface Pro 4 bundle that did not come with the Pen. It is a must-have for any Surface owner.

I purchased this as a secondary Type Cover, my primary one is the black model with an integrated finger print reader. Both type the same, feel the same, and have the same trackpad. Overall the Type Cover for the Surface Pro 4 is a drastic improvement over the Type Cover for the Surface Pro 3. The keys are larger and more spaced out, the backlight system is brighter and easier to see (actually giving it a purpose), the series of Windows 8 buttons have been removed and replaced with more universal options (volume adjustment, media playback, backlight settings, etc.), the trackpad is larger and more sensitive, and the Type Cover is a little more rigid than the previous generation.
The good news is that it works with both the Surface Pro 4 and older Surface Pro 3 so you don't have to upgrade to the Pro 4 in order to benefit from the Type Cover. The one thing I miss is the fingerprint reader. Windows Hello doesn't always recognize my face when logging in. I have gone through the improvement process multiple times but there are still some instances when my face wont' unlock my PC. When using this Type Cover, I have to type in my PIN number to unlock my Surface Pro 4. It's not a big deal but I much prefer simply resting my finger on the scanner in order to unlock my Pro 4 when Windows Hello doesn't recognize my face. It's easy, fast, and secure. I wish Microsoft would add the fingerprint sensor to more of their Type Covers than the standard black one.
All-in-all, this is a must buy for any Surface Pro 4 owner. I like the teal color but would prefer it if MS added the fingerprint scanner. Other than that, it's a solid keyboard and a solid color that goes will with the gold Surface Pen.

A nice media stick with lots of apps

I was actually going to give this a negative review until recently. I would try to stream content from Netflix, Amazon Prime, and HBO Go but was constantly receiving errors that the video I was watching wasn't available at the time. I had to keep switching back to my Chromecast because of this. It was so bad that I was going to return the Fire TV stick, I was getting it all packed up but noticed that the TV stick was on.
I turned my TV to that input, the software had been updated. Amazon rolled out a total software update. The interface is cleaner (though it looks a lot like an Apple TV), it's faster, and I'm no longer receiving that stupid error. Netflix, HBO Go, Amazon Prime, Comedy Central, and every other app I use are all smooth without interruptions.
Using Alexa to search for content is nice as I no longer have to hunt around in the various apps that I use. I can simply do a vocal search for "Westworld" and Alexa will show results that are in multiple apps including HBO Go. I can cast video to the Fire TV Stick with the new update as well. I should have been able to before the update but it never worked. I would experience constant framerate drops and missing audio while casting from my Surface Pro 4. But it's smooth now.
I do wish that Amazon would open up to more services like Google Music or Apple Music but those might be locked down by their respective owners. It's also a shame that more movie services aren't offered. Like Amazon's other products, the Fire TV Stick is a vessel for consuming more content through Amazon. It's one reason why I didn't buy an Echo and went with Google Home instead. At least the Fire TV Stick works with all the apps that I want it to.
I definitely recommend this for anyone who needs a new media streaming device but doesn't want to break the bank. Amazon's new update fixed my Fire TV Stick so that it's actually usable. The interface is fast, apps are open almost instantly, and voice searching via Alexa is a smooth experience. I do wish that more service providers would come together and make their content accessible on other devices but that's OK.
Now, the only negative I really have to say about the Fire TV Stick is that it does require the use of a power outlet. It's supposed to be able to run off of a standard USB port. My HDTV has two and both output power at 1A, 5V but that's not enough for the stick. So I had to buy a USB extension cable and use the provided AC adapter.

Vizio has come up with a solid, 1080p set with a price that is hard to beat. There are some negatives with this TV but the positives far outweigh them. Some people complain about the lack of 4K but I find that 4K (not HDR, just 4K) is highly overrated. Unless you are sitting less than 5 ft away from this TV, you aren’t going to notice a difference between 1080p and 4K. Not only that but 4K sources are still few and far between. Some of the streaming services, like Netflix, have started offering 4K but it isn’t for every title. 4K Blu-ray movies and players are still expensive and broadcast TV in the U.S. is still either 720p or 1080i, stations aren’t even broadcasting in 1080p yet. The lack of 4K is not a valid reason to stay away from this HDTV, at least not yet. It’s a shame that TV manufacturers and content providers are using HDR color only with 4K content when they could have done the same with 1080p. It’s just a way for them to get people to buy tech that they just don’t need.
The picture quality of this Vizio is pretty top notch. It’s not as nice as my older Samsung Plasma but that’s to be expected as LED HDTVs still can’t compete with Plasma. Once calibrated, I found the colors to be pretty accurate. Black levels are better than traditional, edge-lit LED HDTVs as this one has true backlighting with 10 independent areas that are able to provide local dimming. I was pleasantly surprised with the overall picture quality of this set. It’s not on par with a $1500 Sony but I purchased this TV for $350. The size is outright huge and, when viewed from an optimal viewing distance, I didn’t notice any pixels. I am not a fan of the motion smoothing and generally turn it off when watching movies, playing a videogame, TV shows, etc. The only time I turn it on is when watching a sports game, the smoothing helps a bit.
I do wish that the TV could display proper 1080/24p content but it can’t. Everything is “upscaled” to at least 60fps instead of showing cinematic movies as they should be. That’s OK and normally the 1080/24p feature is found in more expensive sets. This is a smart TV but I don’t use any of the built-in apps. I have an Apple TV hooked up to this and it provides a much smoother experience than using the built-in OS. That’s true for most smart TV’s though, their built-in operating systems don’t provide as nice of an experience as using a dedicated media device. The Vizo is DNLA compliant so I am able to “cast” videos and music from my Surface Pro 4 to the TV without requiring additional software. I can even mirror/extend my Surface Pro 4’s display wirelessly and have a smooth experience. All-in-all, I highly recommend this HDTV for anyone that is on a budget. It won’t compete with $1000+ HDTVs but it does hold its own with similarly priced models. It’s also hard to beat having a 60-inch TV while only paying $400. Just do yourself a favor and properly calibrate the TV. The built-in presets tend to have the color blown out way too much along with the brightness.

A well done expansion

I have been waiting a while for Lego to release an expansion to Dimensions. I've already played through all of the level packs and was in need of a whole new world. They captured the Harry Potter universe while distinctively being Lego. The new characters are a welcome change although their powers really aren't all that different from Gandalf and The Wicked Witch. The world and different levels are what really stick out.
I'm not a fan of having to fetch different pieces to make a new portal all over again but the experience feels less painful than it did during my first run-through in Dimensions (especially the Portal levels). I'm not sure if this is worth the full retail price but Best Buy had it on sale during Black Friday and the sale press made this well worth it.
Now I just have to go back and find all the gold bricks throughout each level. Fans of Dimensions and Harry Potter will enjoy this. It doesn't do anything to really change the formula from the first game but that's OK as we now have a vast Harry Potter universe to explore.

A nice band with some flaws

I really like Clockwork Synergy's Apple Watch bands. They're stylish, have a secure fit with both the Series 1 and Series 2 Apple Watches, and Best Buy often has them on sale for really good prices making them a less expensive, while still high quality, alternative to Apple's official watch bands.
I have Clockwork Synergy's solid gray watch band, one of their brown leather bands, and this one. All-in-all, this is my least favorite for two reasons: the clips for the excess band and the stitching. I was able to fix the stitching but I can't fix the clips. The clips stick out and don't fold over. It's normally not a problem except when you're resting your wrist on a flat surface, then they kind of dig into your skin.
The stitching was rather bad in that there were lots of excess nylon threads sticking out digging into my skin. I was able to clip some and cap others with super glue so that they stopped bothering me. Still, their other bands didn't do this.
The blue and white colors go well with the gold and rose gold Apple Watch and are a nice change from having just solid colors. I recommend this watch band, just be ready to modify it a bit if the band ends up bothering your wrist.

This is my go-to iPhone and Apple Watch charging stand. Belkin did a good job keeping things compact so that my phone and watch don't take up much space while they're charging on my nightstand. The magnet for the Apple Watch is strong enough to hold my Series 2 model along with every band that I have (I do not have a metal link band). My iPhone 7 Plus is propped up nicely and at an angle I can easily view the screen at.
The Lightning connector is adjustable and I've used it to charge my iPhone without taking it out of any of its cases. These include thick cases such as the Otterbox commuter, Speck grip case, and thin cases from both Amazon and Apple. My main complaint is that the Lightning connector is at an angle. It can rotate but it's still at an angle and that sometimes makes it difficult when connecting with my iPhone. I have to use two hands sometimes instead of just plopping my iPhone in the dock. It's a small price to pay and I know other iPhone-Apple Watch charging stations are the same.

An awesome stand with one minor issue

I was on the market for an iPhone and Apple Watch charging stand, I wanted one that came with built-in chargers for both items. This fit the bill and was priced affordably. It holds my Apple Watch (series 2) just fine and I haven't had it fall off. It also props my iPhone 7 Plus up and has an adjustable Lightning connector so that I can plug my iPhone in without taking it out of its case. I've used it with an Otterbox Commuter case as well as slim cases from other companies. I can easily remove my iPhone and the stand will stay still.
My only issue with the stand is that it can sometimes be difficult to lineup the Lightning connector with that of the iPhone's. There are sometimes when I have to use two hands and pay attention to what I'm doing. It's because the Lightning connector is at an angle and not straight up. This lets the iPhone sit propped up but it can be problematic at times. My other small complaint is that it's a bit big and takes up a lot of space. Benlkin makes a charging stand that is a little over half as wide as this one.
Overall though, it's a solid charging base station that does what it's supposed to do.
