Great earbuds but they don't stay in my ears
on July 24, 2017

Verified Purchase:Yes
Let me start this review by saying that I am continually on the hunt for a great pair of wireless earbuds. I have a couple of wireless headphones that fit my needs but I have yet to find a pair of great wireless earbuds. I have tried neckband models, ones with wires running between the earbuds, and truly wireless earbuds. I thought the AirPods would be perfect but I'm still searching.
These earbuds just don't stay in my ears. I can put them in, turn my head left or right, and one (or both) will fall out. I even purchased a $20 Insignia AirPods kit just to get these to stay in. It works but I have to remove the earbud covers and re-attach them every time I put the AirPods in their carrying/charging case. It's a pain and something I shouldn't have to do.
Now, if the AirPods actually fit my ears, these would have been great. They sync automatically with iPhones and will sync (using iCloud) to your other Apple devices, their battery life might seem mediocre but it's better than most other truly wireless earbuds and is on par with other wireless earbuds from Bose, the case is extremely slick, and the earbuds are really portable. They don't have the best audio quality but that's something I can forgive with all the other features these pack.
The person at Best Buy who helped me was incorrect about the product. Apple's EarPods don't stay in my ears as well. He said the weight of the wires helped pull the EarPods out of my ears. I didn't quite believe them but you never know. So I will reiterate this: do not buy these if the standard EarPods don't stay in your ears. These too will fall out and you'll be left with $160 earbuds that require the purchase of additional accessories that still don't really let you fully use them.
But, if your ears are fine with the standard EarPods that come with iPhones, go ahead and get the AirPods. They are great for everyday listening and extremely convenient. I wouldn't use them while working out as they aren't sweat resistant but they are great for listening while walking across campus, working in an office, and in other similar situations.
I would have easily given these a 5-star rating had they fit my ears, I should have not listened to the sales rep and instead went with my gut. I have since purchased a pair of BeatsX earbuds and, so far, they are filling my need.

Fits well, fully protects, and shows off back

I wanted this case as I have a red iPhone 7 Plus. It's a phone that I didn't want to cover up yet wanted to protect from drops and general use. This case fits the bill. I can fully see through the back (though it does get cloudy with fingerprints), the black around the edges are a nice accent, the case fits snugly, and it's thick enough to protect the front display and rear cameras. It is on the expensive side but OtterBox makes quality cases that are worth it. I recommend this case for anyone who wants to show off their iPhone 7 Plus while fully protecting it.

A great summation of all Street Fighter II titles
on June 6, 2017

Verified Purchase:Yes
I have fond memories playing Street Fighter II in the arcade and the Champion Edition on the Sega Genesis. I stopped paying attention to the Street Fighter II series after it was released again and again in the arcade and on home consoles. I felt like, as soon as I would finally get used to the new version, Capcom would come out with an even newer edition the next year.
There was the original in 1991, Champion Edition in 1992, Turbo: Hyper Fighting in 1993, the Super version in 1994, Super Street Fighter II Turbo in 1995 (and 2000), Hyper Street Fighter II in 2003, and I'm sure there's a couple others that I'm forgetting. I couldn't keep up especially once the games switched over to the Saturn/Dreamcast, PlayStation/PS2, and Xbox.
So this is a nice release for someone who stopped playing the games a while back and wants to catch up. 17 core characters (and 2 bonus characters) are in the roster, the music has been updated and remixed, and you hear the characters' Japanese voices from Street Fighter IV. The updated graphics are also nice. The game is playable in HD or in a classic, more pixelated mode that's has a 4:3 aspect ratio. I prefer the HD widescreen mode but switching to the pixelated mode is kinda fun as it's a reminder of how far games have come.
The controls are smooth and fluid and the fighting is as fun and fast as ever. I like the Street Fighter IV series but I am more a fan of the classic, 2D style. The game runs at a smooth framerate and I didn't have any dropped frames in both portable and home console modes. Some people might have issues with the Joy-Con's D-pad and analog stick but I haven't had issues. Those with problems can always buy a Pro controller.
There is a 2-on-1 cooperative mode added from the Alpha series and it's nice a addition. There is a new mode called "Way of the Hado" but the controls are awful and it's not very fun. My only complaint, really, is that Capcom is charging $40 for a game that is essentially a port of Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix released 9 years ago. The Switch version looks and performs better and it has two more characters. But still, the underlying game was released on the Xbox 360 and PS3 9 years ago.
Classic Street Fighter fans will appreciate this game. It represents the best of the older and newer series. The Switch handles the game well and it's nice being able to take the game anywhere to play. Some people might have issues with the controls but I thought they were fine. Had this been a $20 release, I would have given it a full five star rating. But it deserves to be knocked down because of the high price and how old the source port is.

The best Mario Kart yet
on May 9, 2017

I was a fan of Mario Kart 8 for the Wii U, it was pretty much the only game I played on the system until I sold it off. Nintendo has another hit on their hands with Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. Not only does it have better graphics than the Wii U version but it's smoother (I experienced some frame rate drops on the Wii U) but there are new tracks and the smart steering feature makes it so kids and inexperienced players can have fun.
There are more characters this time around (every DLC character for the Wii U version is included with the Switch edition), three new vehicles, you can carry two items at once, and the game runs smoothly at 1080p when using the dock. You can play locally with up to 4 people and there's support for up to 12 people online. I've played in my office with four people and it was a fun experience. The Switch's display was a little hard to crowd around but it was still fun.
Anyone with a Switch should get this game, it is the second definitive title that every Switch owner should have. It's fun, the graphics are great, and everything has been unlocked from the Wii U version. If you haven't picked this game up by now, do yourself a favor and buy it. It's a great party game and the best entry in the Mario Kart franchise.

It's mindless, entertaining action
on May 9, 2017

Verified Purchase:Yes
Let me start off by saying that this is not as good as the first Underworld movie and I think that, generally speaking, they have decreased in quality over time. But that's OK as the first Underworld movie wasn't very deep. We have known for a long time that the Underworld movies are titles where you're supposed to check your brain in at the door, relax, and enjoy the mindless action of vampires and werewolves fighting.
That being said, I did find some issues with this title even when compared to the previous one. I will go over some things but try not to mention specific characters. Either way: spoiler alert. My first big issue is one of the main characters essentially dies off-screen. Great, they hyped it up at the end of the last movie and they went nowhere with them. The second issue is that the plot is extremely predictable. I saw the betrayal coming from miles away as soon as the agreement was made. Third, they made Selene out to be this all powerful vampire at the end of Underworld II (and mainly throughout Underworld IV) but they scaled her powers back for this movie only for her to gain God-like abilities in the end. Lastly, Selene has been turned into an emo-goth vampire lacking any feelings, emotions, or even intelligence. She goes through the whole movie plowing over everyone without thinking twice.
I'm also disappointed with the video quality. It looks nice but most of the scenes are extremely dark. I had to close all of my curtains and turn off the lights just to watch this movie. It feels darker than the previous ones and I think it was done intentionally to contrast more with the lighter scenes. Either way, I'm not a fan of this decision. The audio is surprisingly center heavy with very little of the surround being used. The actions scenes are great and really shine, as does the audio. I could hear lycans growling and charging behind me, bullets flying over my head, Selene running around me, etc. The action scenes are the true stars of this movie. There are very few special features with this release and the ones that are included are rather short. It's a shame really as the first Underworld movie had a ton of special features. This one has about 30 minutes of special features in total, that's a shame in a movie like this (it being the 5th in the franchise and having a bunch of special effects).
Underworld fans, like myself, will still find this enjoyable. It's not as good as the previous releases but it's still fun. I had more issues with the plot this time around and the casting aside of one character, with their death, is inexcusable at this point. But the action scenes are solid, the steel book is really nice, and the setup made me excited for the next entry in the series.

A must have for Star Wars fans
on April 14, 2017

I have to admit, I had my doubts about this movie. The numerous re-shoots weren't a good sign and I doubted their ability to capture the feeling of Episode IV. Well, I was completely wrong. This movie feels like it takes place in the same universe as Episode IV, just from a different viewpoint.
The cast does a phenomenal job of portraying their characters, the audio and video quality are top notch, and the steelbook package is great and (I think) the best version to get.
There are a couple of times where the plot feels like it was intentionally slowed down (there's a lot to take in with this movie) and some elements don't mesh well. That's probably due to the multiple re-shoots but it's ok, the end result is a film worthy of baring the Star Wars name.
I didn't have issues with the CGI characters. They definitely stood out but were well-done. Rogue One has the best Darth Vader scene of any Star Wars movie and expands on his mythos a bit more. We finally get to see how the plans for the Death Star were stolen.
There are tons of special features, enough to keep fans entertained for hours on end. The 3D version is ok but you're fine sticking with the 2D version for normal watching.
I highly recommend this for any Star Wars fan, it is truly a must have title in a stellar presentation and package.

An overall strong entry, some parts didn't work

Overall, this is a nice entry in the Harry Potter universe. The movie feels like it takes place in the same universe, just earlier in time. The cast feed well off of each other and solidly portray their characters. There is a big reveal at the end which is easily predicted but still fun. Eddie Redmayne would sometimes come off as an awkward person just for the sake of being awkward (think of Sheldon in The Big Bang Theory, a show that I absolutely hate) and there wasn't much substance behind that. We were never given a reason why his character was strange, it was just something that we were supposed to accept.
CGI was top notch as were the set designs and costumes. The plot was a little lacking and there was one part of the movie where I cringed (mainly because it felt like it was written for a 2-year-old). Other than that and the occasionally forced awkwardness of Newt, the movie is pretty solid. I don't recommend spending more for the 3D release as it didn't add much to the overall experience (not unless you own a 3D projector).

Great hardware, the software still needs work.

It is difficult to review game consoles when they are still within their first month of being launched. The new hardware is exciting but you are still getting launch window games while the OS (and games) are being actively tweaked and updated.
So far I have played three games on my Switch: Zelda, World of Goo, and Snipperclips. I am really anticipating Mario Kart, Arms, Super Street Fighter II, and Sonic Mania (for the launch window games). The good news is that I have continued to play the three games I purchased and I have had two of them on the console's launch day. So the games have been able to hold and keep my attention and should last me until at least Mario Kart comes out later this month.
I'll break things down a little bit and first talk about the hardware. Overall, the Switch hardware is solid. You get a satisfying feeling clicking on the Joy-Con controllers to the console itself as well as the controller-styled holder. Although everything is plastic, it feels sturdy. I have no doubts that the console itself will last for years before showing signs of wear and tear (unless you truly abuse it). The 720p screen is actually pretty low resolution by today's standards but it easily gets the job done. Text is easy to read, colors look nice, and navigating the menu isn't difficult or cumbersome. Nintendo has finally added a capacitive screen and that makes touch navigating (and game play) a lot easier compared to the DS line of consoles (including the New 3DS).
The Switch seamlessly transfers from portable console to home console by placing it in the included dock. I do wish that there was a click when the Switch was inserted like there are with the Joy-Con. Instead you're pretty much lining the Switch up and placing it on top of a USB-C port hoping it will go in. I haven't had difficulty with this but it would have been nice for there to be a railing and click system that the Switch could be inserted to that would guide it to the USB-C port.
Wireless connectivity is solid and I'm able to download content quickly over my 802.11ac network. It's a welcome change to see Nintendo embrace newer Wi-Fi tech instead of sticking with something older (the Wii U supported only 2.4GHz 802.11n). The wireless range of the Joy-Con are solid, I have two pairs of Joy-Con synced with my console and have not had any connectivity issues (including both left Joy-Cons). I can easily access my Switch in the living room from the kitchen.
Load times for downloaded simple games are minimal as are more complex games on cartridges. I upgraded my Switch's storage to a 64GB microSDXC card and simple, downloaded games are fine. I haven't tried anything complex from the SD card though. I do wish that the Switch came with more than 32GB of storage. That really seems lackluster in this day and age especially when eMMC storage is so inexpensive. Nintendo could have easily loaded it up with 128GB.
I also wish that the battery life was better. I am only getting a couple of hours (~2.5) playing Zelda but I'm getting about 4 with Snipperclips and a bit longer with World of Goo. Those numbers are OK but it would have been nice getting 5 hours out of Zelda and 8-9 out of the other titles. I would have gladly opted for a thicker, heavier console to get more battery life. Unfortunately, as of now, there aren't any power bricks that charge the Switch fast enough to let you play and charge at the same time. The current power bricks will charge the Switch but the battery still drains faster than the charge rate.
The OS GUI needs some work as well. It's fine for basic functionality but Nintendo should really open it up more. Media apps would have been nice to have as well. Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Video, HBO Go, Showtime, Epix, etc. would all be welcome on the Switch. The watching experience would be better than my smartphone and it would mean I could get rid of the stupid media device that's hooked up to my HDTV. Nintendo has said that media apps are coming but, in this day and age, it seems downright sinful to launch any type of media device (a streamer, Blu-ray player, gaming console, HDTV, etc.) without at least Netflix.
Overall though, the Switch is a solid home and portable console. Like any system still in it's launch window, it could use some additional work. The OS GUI is dated, we need more games, and media apps are a must. But the hardware itself is solid. The dock feels a little cheap but the rest of the console, including the Joy-Con, are solid. The kickstand holds the console up just fine (don't believe Cnet's click-bait video), the Joy-Con have a satisfying click when inserting them, and they work well when attached to the Switch for portable gaming.
I have zero doubts that Nintendo is working on improving the switch experience. Due to the lack of games, I don't recommend this console just yet for the average gamer. I highly recommend this for hardcore gamers and Nintendo fans but right now, I don't think that the downloadable games and Zelda are enough to hold the average gamer over. Mario Kart is definitely going to help. Casual gamers should give this console another month or two one Mario Kart, Splatoon, and Arms are released.

Doesn't fit properly
on April 3, 2017

When the Switch launched, this was the only screen protector I could find in stores. For the price, I thought it would hold up well enough to at least last me 4-5 months until more 3rd party ones were released. That's not the case, I had to take this screen protector off one week after installing it. Not only does this screen protector scratch really easily but it's too big so you will always get bubbles around the bezel of the display.
That normally wouldn't be a big deal but it is when you put the Switch in a case and bring it with you. The cloth in the case starts rubbing on the bubbles around the edge and pulls the protector up. I even returned the protector for another one (the same one) two weeks later and it has the same issues. I had to put clear tape around the edges where the bubbles are just so the protector would stay on.
I understand that many rush-to-market screen protectors aren't great but this one is bad. Instead I ended up buying a universal screen protector and cutting it down to fit the Switch. It's not the best situation but the universal protector was only $1 and it has stayed on better than this. I don't recommend this screen protector to anyone, get it only if you have to but be prepared to be disappointed. There are other 3rd party ones on the market now, try those instead.

A nice package for fans
on March 27, 2017

Verified Purchase:Yes
American Pie - I remember watching the first American Pie movie 18 years ago. Back then, it set the standard for raunchy teenage comedies and it still holds up fairly well (albeit a little tame by today's standards). The movie is fun and the characters are still relatable whether you're looking back and remembering high school or you're going through it now. It's almost just as fun watching it now as it was watching when the movie was newer. Some things don't quite hold up but, for the most part, it's a solid raunchy comedy (without being too raunchy). 4.5/5
American Pie 2 - I wasn't the biggest fan of this movie when it first came out but, in retrospect, it isn't that bad. It is not as good as the first film but some of the jokes hold up. I still find the characters to be relatable and I like that they've expanded on Stifler a bit and made him more of a main character this time around. Some of the scenes are dumb but, when you have a movie as good as the original, it's hard to come up with something that's just as funny. The cinematography is similar to the first movie so it feels like a proper sequel. 3/5
American Wedding - For me, this is the worst of the American Pie movies. I laughed a lot during the first movie, still quite a bit in the second, yet I can count on one hand how many times I laughed during this movie. The cinematography also makes this feel like a completely different movie, like it doesn't belong in the American Pie universe. Christ Klein (who plays Oz) is absent from this movie and I think they relied too much on Fred Willard, he can be hit or miss with me and I just wasn't a fan of his character. There was really only one scene that I thought was true laugh out loud funny. The characters are less-relatable this time and it feels like they're just going through a routine now.
American Reunion - It took 9 years but we were finally given a sequel and conclusion to the American Pie movies, I'm not even going to consider those spin-off movies here because they were all terrible. Although it isn't perfect, I much prefer American Reunion to American Wedding. The characters are relatable again, the full cast is back, and there are even cameos from older cast members that were in the first and (maybe) second movies. This was a nice, solid way to end things. I feel like I've grown up with these characters (although I graduated high school in 2002) and that, aside from the third film, experienced similar situations as them. Fans of the first movie will like Reunion. 4/5
Overall, this is a nice package for fans of the movies. It's inexpensive and contains the theatrical and unrated cuts of all four films. The third one is my least favorite but it's still watchable. The characters are relatable for anyone who grew up in the early 90's and it's nice that things finished out on a high note. Audio and video quality are solid across all movies except for the third one, there are some scenes where DNR was heavily used causing artificial grain. Either way, I highly recommend this for anyone who enjoys raunchier comedies.
