Overdue new music from Keith Richards, not as hard rock edged as his earlier X-Pensive Winos work, but bluesy and a welcome CD of new riffs from K.R. This album will grow on you and Keith's vocals are surprisingly good after all those years of smoking. Most of the songs were co-written with Steve Jordan (one including a writing credit to Norah Jones). A word of advice... if you are not prone to reading lyrics, pick-up the booklet and read these as it will add to your appreciation of the songs Kieth selected for this project.
The Rolling Stones gave us "Sticky Fingers" during a run of four albums where anyone would be hard pressed not to admit they were at the very peak of creativity and playing. The Mic Taylor era of course included his wonderful guitar work and sound that really etches that time into your musical brain! "Sticky Fingers" has long been regarded as a fantastic collection of material and the additional tracks included in this set are a very welcome addition. The booklet is also a well produced addition as is the bonus single of "Wild Horses"/"Brown Sugar" that you can order from the info contained within the box set. It is not a cheap flimsy 45 but a solid piece of vinyl that sounds great on the turntable and is a welcome addition to this Stones fan's collection!
Green Day has always been an important band and in many ways has some of the attitude and musical ability that helps to fill the void that bands like The Clash left when they disbanded. The urgency of their musical delivery is impressive and energetic and the fact that they can produce songs with important content that have musical "hooks" and riffs that get into your head is a big plus! This collection is a great way to introduce someone to the band!
