CHUCK – Chuck Berry. Chuck is in great voice and sounds like he had fun making this CD. His guitar work is his atypical trademark sound, solid riffs and really good new songs. Eight of the ten are his compositions and two are covers. One, the track “3/4 Time (Enchiladas)” is recorded live with an audience. Among the musicians featured here are Charles Berry, Jr. (Guitar), Ingrid Berry (Vocals & Harmonica), and Chuck Berry III (Guitar on 2 tracks). Also featured on “Big Boys” is Tom Morello’s guitar work. This is a fun collection, has a very complete lyrics, photos, and liner notes booklet and includes a link where you can get 25% off of any Chuck Berry merchandise. Glad he was able to record this album and glad I got to see him perform live as well!

We’re All Allright – Cheap Trick. This CD comes out rockin’ with four powerful guitar driven tracks as if to announce, “HEY! We’re BACK! BANG!” From there it turns into more of a typical collection/album of songs with differing tempos. “Like a Fly” reminded me of various elements found on The Beatles “Sergeant Pepper” with some 007 James Bond theme like guitar riffs in it. Note that the deluxe version features three additional tracks.

The Baddest – Z.Z.Top. A very satisfying 2014 compilation of ZZT’s best featuring 20 songs! Eight are single/radio edits of tracks you might expect (like “Gimmie All Your Lovin” and “Sharp Dressed Man”) which we all know and that is all right in order to fit these 20 tracks on one CD. This is a comprehensive disc and fun to listen to/play at a party, etc. True and longtime fans probably have the albums/CDs that have the full length version of the single edit songs. This collection keeps you from having to burn a collection of your own. It also is a great gift to anyone expressing an interest in the band as a potential new fan!

Collective Soul Live. Having recently seen them in concert, this was a no brainer purchase for me. For those new to the band or may have never seen them live, you basically have their greatest hits performed live in a powerful 17 song set! Note the guitar work on track 12 “Confession”. Two Steps: 1) Get this CD and 2) Go see them sometime!

The Ultimate YES 35th Anniversary Collection – YES. Released in 2004, this is a great all-in-one collection featuring 31 songs (five of which were previously unreleased)! As usual, Rhino has done this right! Discs 1 & 2 feature 11 and 15 tracks respectively while Disc 3 features the five additional tracks: “Roundabout” (acoustic), “Show Me”, “South Side of the Sky” (acoustic), “Australia” (solo acoustic), and “New World Symphony”. The collection includes new artwork by Roger Dean, a poster with the band’s history and discography and album covers on the other side. Some of the tracks on Discs 1 & 2 are the single/radio edits but that works-out O.K. in order to get 26 tracks to fit. A great addition to any fan’s collection and a great introduction to the band for a “newbie”.

Be Myself – Sheryl Crow. A typically well done Sheryl Crow collection with her recognizable vocals and songs with hooks. No matter what mood you may be in or what responsibilities you have, on listening to this CD more than once I found that you could do so to reading or decide to get up and move about the room to the songs she have given us here. As always, the musicianship is tight which is one of her main traits. It is a good collection any fan will want to add to their collection.

Melodic U2 with a mission.

Songs of Experience – U2. A very melodic collection finds Bono is great voice. This album is not an atypical U2 effort (I know; as if there is one!) but once you read the extensive liner notes where Bono explains why he wrote this material, who and what inspired him to do so (and more) you will appreciate the CD even more. I will not give any of that away here but it is a “must read”. TIP: I wish I had read it prior to playing the music so I highly recommend reading before playing. It explains a lot about this collection of 13 songs. After playing this latest release, I went to play the second CD of their greatest hits collection that contains the “B” sides (which also has many melodic tracks that I often wondered, “How did this not make the last album?”).

Concrete and Gold – Foo Fighters. A very good collection that I felt no one song was “The big Hit” although “RUN” most likely candidate here. The Foo Fighters have often been referred to on L.A. radio stations as one of the last great rock ‘n’ roll bands and being so musically tight, very good songwriters, powerful performers all make it difficult to disagree! As a fan, two other bands you may also like that could also be included in that group are Collective Soul (a great new LIVE CD) and 3 Doors Down. The Foo Fighters may play with more bombast, but these three all rock. As the promotional sticker on “Concrete and Gold” declares, “Testing the limits of speakers everywhere” which this band always does!

Get DEEP into PURPLE great starter CD!

It makes no sense to me that Deep Purple is still not in the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame! If you are unfamiliar with the band, this 15 track best of collection will likely cause you to wonder why as well. You get that great first single "Hush" from 1968 that still is a regular track on classic rock stations as well as early tracks (including the cover of Neil Diamond's "Kentucky Woman") that lead up to the big songs we all know (Highway Star, Smoke on the Water, Space Truckin', Woman from Tokyo, Burn, Knocking at your Back Door) and more.
At Best Buy's price of $7.99 it was a total steal but then when it was rung-up, I found it to be on sale for only $6.99! That's less than 50 cents per song! This is a total no-brainer people!

Never seem to have enough AA batteries and was quite happy Best Buy had them in stock. With all the battery powered clocks throughout our house, we really needed these! Duracell is a great brand name and although I could not find them in the store, a very polite and helpful associate did not just tell us where they were. He took the time to walk us directly to them and offered any further assistance. Another good Best Buy experience and yes - the clocks are all running again!
