Great Memory Improvement - Marginal Speed Increase

I installed this 2TB SSD into my ROG ALLY and was able to nearly quadruple its storage capacity - which is a fantastic improvement. Games run much noticeably better when stored on the internal SSD compared to a Micro SD card. Because the default 512 GB fills up incredibly quickly, swapping to a larger SSD is absolutely worth the money. I have only seen marginal loading improvement with the larger SSD, but I still feel as though the upgrade is a worth while investment.
The physical task of swapping the SSD cards is incredibly quick and easy - taking less than two minutes. But, using the ASUS Cloud Recovery can be an absolute hellish nightmare. Before you start the process of swapping the SSD cards, make sure that you have completed ALL of the available Windows and ASUS software updates. As long as all of the software is up to date, you should have no issues recovering the software and restarting the ALLY.
...Be aware that the recovery process can be quite slow and depends on the speed of your WiFi network. If you want to speed up the process, you can connect the ROG to a docking station that has a physical connection to your network.

To add the new card:
Simply remove the screws on the back of the Ally and lift off the back of the device. Unplug the battery connector ribbon. Then lift the black plastic cover to see the default SSD. Remove the screw that holds the card in place and you can unplug the old SSD and insert the new larger card. Then reverse the process to put the Ally back together. See the attached pictures for examples of the screw and SSD locations.

Clean air with an added fresh scent

About two years ago my family began using a super fancy and extremely expensive Air Purifier. Strangely the purifier left the air smelling like hot glue, or something burning. I thought that maybe I had failed to unwrap part of the HEPA filters inside, but I found no such issue. Though the purifier said that the filter was good for hundreds of additional hours, we stopped using the device. A new filter cost over $100 and we didn't want to risk wasting so much additional money.
Recently, my wife opened a salon in our house and we wanted to ensure that her clients aren't able to smell our pets. I didn't want to use the existing purifier, so we ordered the Shark Purifier. Both of us were immediately impressed. We haven't needed to bother with adjusting any settings or trying different modes, the automatic mode has been spectacular. The purifier is extremely quiet and starts working as soon as it detects any particulates in the air. After just a few hours we noticed the air feeling cleaner and actually smelling fresh thanks to the "Odor Neutralizer" tabs.
While I love how simple and effective the Purifier is, there is very limited information about what they only seem to refer to as "Odor Neutralizer Technology". There is a little plastic disk that twists into the top of the device that seems to be basically an air freshener. There is no real mention of what the scent is, or how long the scent is intended to last, or where to buy replacement scents. Thankfully the scent is not too strong and actually seems fairly pleasant - similar to the scent of a dryer sheet. There seem to be generic replacements sold on several 3rd party websites, but nothing seems to be official.
Besides the oddness of the "Odor Neutralizer Technology" discs, we love the Shark Purifier. The display clearly indicates how clean the air is and automatically adjusts the speed of the fan to ensure that the air is cleaned back to 100%. The smell of pets and cooking has been eliminated from the air and my wife's salon clients have never mentioned any smells in the air.
As long as the odor neutralizer discs don't cause problems, I am completely satisfied.

Percussion Massagers are Better With Heat

A couple of years ago my family was rear ended by a young driver who had fallen asleep while heading home from his early morning shift at a golf course. After the accident, my wife began feeling shoulder and neck pain which led me to purchase a Hyperice Percussion Messager. Unfortunately she did not enjoy the massager and the device sat around for over a year. But, I took a leap of faith and purchased the new heated massager head hoping that she would enjoy the warming effect on her muscles. Besides, she's always cold - at the very least she'll appreciate a new way to warm herself up.
Even before I could attach the device to the message gun, she was pressing it against the muscles in her shoulder, neck, and chest marveling at how good the heat feels. In our household, it is unanimous - the heated attachment absolutely takes the Hyperice to the next level. Everyone, and I do mean EVERYONE, agrees that heat makes the massages better.
The device warms up incredibly quickly and gets hot enough to feel through clothing, but not so hot that it would burn when pressed directly against skin. The battery outlasts the battery in the massager, so it's a perfect accessory.
If I were looking for ways to complain I would express frustration that it doesn't charge using the same cable as the Percussion Messager - But, I am actually more annoyed that the massager doesn't use a USB-C cable to charge (like the heating accessory and every other laptop, headset, and phone in my house).
It is also a shame that it is only one shape. The flat rigid circle works well, but each user has their own favorite attachment shape which they use for various muscle groups. My family now wants every attachment to heat up.

Phenomenal Sound & Excellent Features

I truly believe that the LG XBOOM is nearly perfect. It has excellent audio quality with the use of the "SOUND BOOST" button. The LED lights are smooth, consistent, and bright with several easy to change effect options. There are two rubberized handles which makes it easy to carry without slipping. The speaker is designed to sit upright or sit horizontal on its side. It has stellar Bass. There are inputs for both Mic & Guitar (with separate volume knobs). You can use the speaker without being forced to use the mobile companion app. The inputs are covered by a rubber flap that can be held open by hidden magnets when in use. The speaker is water resistant and is wireless and comes with a battery that lasts well over 10 hours.
Most importantly (for me) is that it appears to be one of the only name brand speakers to play audio from a USB Drive. I have used several water resistant speakers and I find it quite annoying that the audio source is always my cell phone. I would prefer to not leave my super expensive smartphone sitting next to the pool. Or, I would prefer to walk around using my phone without worrying that I may walk out of range, or receive a phone call that pauses the music and stops the party. I am finally able to load a USB Thumb drive with a playlist and let the speaker do it's thing without tying up my phone. (The music format has to be WMA or MP3 - sadly this means iTunes libraries aren't compatible...but who uses iTunes anymore?)
While this speaker is absolutely fantastic, LG appears to have skipped out on some of the finer details.
- The speaker does not have an NFC (Near Field Communication) pairing feature that would automatically sync to your phone when it is placed on top of the speaker. This makes Bluetooth Synching slightly more difficult - especially because the device is not called XBOOM within the Smartphone. Look for a device called LG-XL5S(7A).
- The Power, Play/Pause, & Light Effect buttons light up, but the volume buttons do not. This is odd because the volume buttons are probably used most often while the device is powered on.
- The speaker does not have buttons that allow you to change the track while playing audio via Bluetooth. Typically the Volume + and - buttons also change the track. Sadly they do not on the XBOOM.
- The battery is not easily removed. When it comes time to replace the battery (which shouldn't be for several years) you will need some tools and some online tutorials to extract & replace the battery.
- The speaker does not have any place to store the power cable. Sure the speaker has a battery and can be used without the cable, but if the back compartment had been made just slightly larger (or more recessed), the cable could be stored inside and would not get lost.
- The audio sounds a bit flat when not in "Sound Boost" mode. I can't imagine not using sound boost all of the time.
- The speaker does not have any mounting options. If you are a musician, or DJ - just be aware that this speaker will be sitting on the ground.
- The XBOOM logo does not rotate when the speaker is laid down horizontally. This is a very minor complaint, but companies such as Bose & Sony do make sure their logo can rotate to be legible in any position.

For me, being able to use a playlist on a USB Drive makes the XBOOM absolutely more useful as a party speaker. This speaker is absolutely my favorite for LOUD music on the go as it is ready for anything. There's always that one guy who pulls out a guitar on the beach - now he can plug into the XBOOM and serenade the whole party.

Great Performance with Phenomenal Color & Clarity

Though I absolutely love new tech, picking out a new laptop has become rather dull - like updating a smartphone to a nearly identical smartphone. Thankfully the Asus Q420 was able to catch my eye with the geometric design on the lid - because this laptop has truly blown me away.
When I powered on the Q420 I was immediately shocked by how incredible the OLED screen looks. The black levels are absolutely incredible! Even the boot screen was impressive. The black levels are so dark that it truly looks like the black pixels aren’t even powered on. 14.5 inches is a fairly small screen, but the clarity and color richness make this laptop an absolute powerhouse for watching movies. Honestly, the video quality is noticeably better than any of the 4K HDTVs in my house. OLED is truly fantastic!
As odd as it sounds, I sincerely appreciate that I feel comfortable actually using this laptop on my lap. The fans are whisper quiet and actually do a good job of keeping the laptop reasonably cool. I don’t feel like I’m sterilizing myself by blowing burning hot air into my lap. I can cozy up on the couch and check email, play games, and watch movies all without cooking my crotch.
I am also impressed with how Asus has incorporated a 10-key pad into the touch-pad. Simply swipe from the upper left corner and the calculator app opens and the 10-key pad lights up on the keypad. Swipe again and the calculator closes. The function is a useful tool that allows the laptop to have a very usable 10-key pad without the need to shrink they keyboard. Thankfully this also means that the physical keyboard remains easy to use.
My only minor complaints are that the pin hole camera (which is built into the top bezel above the screen) does not have a cover. There is a function key to turn the camera off, but no physical way to cover the camera. I also with that there was a built in memory card slot and a finger print reader. I must admit, however, that the FHD Infrared camera recognizes my face super quickly and logs me in nearly instantly.
Overall, I am very pleased with the features, performance, and quality of this little Laptop. It really checks nearly every box. It is lightweight, durable, has great battery life, charges quickly, I can open the lid without the base lifting off of the table, it has a full 10-key pad, the screen clarity, color, and brightness are phenomenal, and the touchscreen works well. I highly recommend this little guy!

An Absolute Home Run from ASUS

ROG Ally
Asus has done an incredible job with the ROG Ally. While the name could definitely be better - the actual device is so wonderful that I am once again excited about portable gaming. Don’t settle for the Nintendo Switch or the Steam Deck - get a device that can play anything! The Ally runs Windows 11 - which means there is very little learning curve. The Ally is so good in fact - that it makes me glad that I sold my Steam Deck Pre-Order and waited for something better.
Compared to the Steam Deck, the Ally is both smaller and lighter with a slimmer profile. The thumbsticks on the Ally are more concave and have a much better grip - though they do feel more loose. The Steam Deck runs noticeably warm/hot while the Ally’s dual fans run quietly to keep the system noticeably cooler. The Steam Deck feels more game focused as the Home screen is all game content from Steam by default. The ROG Ally feels more versatile and capable as it runs Windows, but it feels more like a regular laptop when it boots up. Thankfully ASUS has added a dedicated button that opens the “Armory Crate” which is a visual menu of games and Apps that have been added from both Steam and the Microsoft Xbox Store.
Running Windows feels like a blessing and a curse. On one hand, most people are familiar with Windows - which reduces the learning curve and provides the ability to do all of the things we are used to using on PCs and Laptops.
…But, on the other hand - Windows comes with the typical annoyance of constant software updates. On a device that most will use solely for gaming - most of the windows updates don’t feel important, or useful.

I love the Ally and so does my 8 year old son, but it would make a terrible Christmas present. Though it boots up in only about 12 seconds, it requires hours of software updates before you can actually play games on the device. Once Windows is up to date - even more time is required to download games from Steam and from the Xbox store.
…Fortunately the Ally truly makes gaming easy. Using Xbox Game Pass is an absolute breeze. Downloading games can take quite a while, but Cloud gaming is simple and works very well. Customizing controls, adjusting frame rate, modifying performance - all are simple thanks to an ASUS Command Center which also has a dedicated button.
My complaints are very minimal:
First is Battery Life - which just barely exceeds the two hours advertised. I actually haven’t been too bothered by the battery. Thankfully the Ally charges quickly and even with the use of USB-C phone chargers around the house - playtime is greatly extended. I don’t see too many scenarios where I will need to game for more than two hours without access to a charger.

Second is that the Ally doesn’t come with a carrying case. As the Ally is quite a bit more costly than the Steam Deck (which does come with a case) - it truly feels as though ASUS cheaped out. To travel with the Ally, a carrying case truly is required. Unfortunately it will cost us extra.
Third is that the device does not have a kickstand. The Ally does come with a stand to prop up the device - which is convenient for watching movies or playing games with a bluetooth controller, but it feels extremely cheap - as though it is made from cardboard. I have no doubt that these will quickly break or get lost.
My fourth and final complaint is just that the Power button has no tactile feel. The button does an excellent job as a fingerprint reader and it works lighting quick - but it is perfectly in line with the top of the device and I can’t find it quickly. I always have to move my finger all around feeling for it. If it was raised just slightly - it would be much easier to use.
Overall - I 100% recommend the ROG Ally to any gamer who can afford to purchase one. It has a beautiful screen, plays at buttery smooth frame rates, is incredibly versatile, can play any game that can run on a laptop, is great for Netflix, and is fully customizable. An absolute home run from ASUS.

I am incredibly pleased with this 120W quick charger! Usually I leave 5 minutes late for every appointment because I am trying to charge my phone before I leave the house. Now, I can be confident that my Flip 4 or my wife's Galaxy S23 Ultra will be nearly completely charged even after a quick trip in the car.
Be aware that one of the micro-usb ports charges significantly faster than the other - as one is 100W while the other is 20W. So, if your phone isn't charging as quickly as you expect, you may simply be using the lower powered port.
I appreciate that the charger provides the option for powering older devices via the USB Type A port. I had expected to use this port for sending power to my dash cam - but unfortunately the dash cam has a DC outlet connector that cannot be unplugged. So, before you purchase this charger, make sure that you have an available Car DC outlet available - otherwise you may have to decide between powering your dashcam and charging your phone.
Overall I am extremely happy. This quick charger is incredibly easy to use and charges MUCH faster than my car's wireless charger. Thankfully it comes with a USB C to USB C charging cable - so I know that the cord is high quality and wont limit the power flowing to my phone. I absolutely recommend this charger for any phone or device charging on the go.

Enhance Productivity in Every Tool & Application

Much like Ford copied Jeep when they developed the new Bronco, Razer has cloned Elgato’s popular Stream Deck. The result is the Razer Stream Controller.
…Okay, so they didn’t come up with a better name, but they did improve upon the physical hardware.
My largest frustration with the Stream Deck is that it simply does not stay in place when you press the buttons. Razer has completely fixed the issue as their Stream Controller stays firmly in place when magnetized to the upright stand, or while lying down on its back. This alone places Razer ahead of Elgato. After all, once your macros and shortcuts have been routed to the buttons – the majority of your usage will be actually interacting with the controller. Because the Razor device stays put – it is MUCH easier to actually use from day to day.

I had also complained that Elgato’s concave buttons created problematic glare as the curve reflected light from all around the room. Razer’s Stream Controller has flat physical buttons with shorter travel that feels less spongy than the Stream Deck. It may be a rather subtle difference, but I do believe that glare and reflections are less noticeable here.
Where Razer falls behind is in the software. Buttons are mapped using Loupedeck which simply isn’t as streamlined as the Elgato Stream Deck. Loupedeck doesn’t have as many program specific icon packs and navigating shortcut & macro setup is less intuitive. But, because the Razer controller doesn’t slide around every time the user presses a button, I think that the cumbersome set-up of the Razer is worth the extra effort.
Because the Stream Controller is so incredibly versatile (and because they improved upon the design first developed by Elgato) I can confidently say that the Razer controller is absolutely worth while in its own right. Much like Apple, Razer hasn’t given us anything new – but they have taken existing tech and perfected to a high level where it can be perceived as more useful than before. The Stream Controller is a phenomenal tool that everyone can use to be more efficient with every program they may use.
If there is a particular macro or feature set that you are looking for, search the interwebs to see if that feature is exclusive to either the Elgato or the Razer controller. But if ease of day-to-day use is your primary concern, the Razer Stream Controller is better.

Quiet, Powerful, & Versatile

I have been cutting my own hair for about 25 years and this is the first set of wireless clippers that I have found to be powerful enough to use for haircuts (as opposed to simply using for trimming facial hair). The shape makes the precision groomer comfortable to hold and the location of the power switch prevents accidental shut-off. Magnetic attachments (such as the foil shaver and the nose hair trimmer) are simple and quick to remove & swap. While charging doesn’t seem particularly fast, the battery does have plenty of power to complete a full beard trim and haircut. I wouldn’t suggest them for professional use, but because the unit sits on a charging dock – it is always ready with a full charge.
The unit comes with a good assortment of guide combs for trimming and clipping, but unfortunately no bag or storage is included – which at this price is almost unacceptable. Also frustrating is that the set does not come with any brush to help to clean the various guides and magnetic attachments. The gaps below the haircut and body trimmer gather quite a large amount of hair that is difficult to remove. And, somehow hair clippings still manage to find their way all the way underneath the magnetic attachments. Thankfully I still have a brush from another clipper set because hair clippings are an absolute mess.
I would recommend this groomer set to anyone who wants to have a cordless beard trimmer that also provides the option to function as hair clippers. It is also a good option for parents who are trimming their children’s hair as the motor produces less noise than most standard clippers. Just be aware that, for now, Conair does not appear to sell blade or attachment replacements. Also be ready to find your own storage option for the many loose attachments.

Simple & Stylish, but Leaves the Screen Exposed

This bumper case is extremely simple and installs in literally seconds. Just stretch it over the Apple Watch, press down, and VOILA - the case clicks right into place. Thankfully all of the buttons still work well and are easy to use through the case.
Though I must admit that the case looks much better than I had expected, I was disappointed that it offers almost no protection to the face of the watch - which is the main reason why I ranked the product at 4 stars instead of 5. It would have only cost the company a few extra pennies to include a screen protector - but sadly the face of the watch is left vulnerable. Also, the bumper doesn't hold tight enough to keep out water. If you swim, do dishes, or shower with your Apple Watch, you'll want to remove the bumper to dry it off and to remove any dust or debris that managed to find its way underneath.
The little gems reflect a lot of light and do actually look pretty nice. So far none of them have fallen out (after a couple of weeks). Overall the bumper works completely as expected and is worth the price. The Apple Watch is expensive enough that any added protection is very welcome - and this little piece of plastic seems to be doing the trick.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra does not have a built in radio tuner. This means that you will need to use a data connection in order to listen to the radio.
