I just bought the iPhone 12 and my husband has a Samsung Galaxy S9. We both wanted to try wireless charging. This Sandisk also offers an onboard 128g backup feature so we gave it a try. There is a companion app which my husband found quickly in Google Play. I had a little more trouble because I needed to specify Sandisk in my search. I never got the QR code included in the documentation to get past the cookies. Setup was guided by the app. We had to connect via Bluetooth using the same pairing code provided. We also had to connect to our WiFi. Once that was done we each charged our phones and backed up our contacts and photos. That is pretty nice. The IXpand knows which phone is charging. They do recommend charging over night and that it takes longer to back up and charge the first few times since the backup function can divide the power based on the size of your photo file. My phone was about 50% charged and I only have a few photos so my first full charge only took a couple of hours. Sadly, while both of us have cases that were under the 3mm thickness recommended, they still would not charge with them on. I believe it is because both have “bumper” corners making them not fit flat on the oval shaped charger. There is a small lavender light on the front end that indicates charging. It blinked rapidly when we tried charging with the cases on which indicates not charging. The light is steady when charging correctly and white when finished. One nice feature for me is that my Apple Watch received notifications when the backup completed and when the charging completed. Now we have to decide who gets this nice charger on their nightstand! Maybe Santa will bring one for my husband. Does what it should just be aware that you may have to remove your case.

Nothing about your personal style is standard. So why should your appliances be? Created for those who want to reflect their true style in every room of their home, Café is distinct by design. Backed by showstopping features, every Café appliance gives you the form and the function you've been craving. Now that exceptional style is coming to your countertops thanks to elegant and efficient toasters, which feature the signature Café copper accents that truly elevate your experience. Embrace a toaster that you can be proud to present on your counters that also boasts four pre-set functions that allow you to customize your toast to your preferences. The innovative Express Finish setting creates delectable toast in about a minute, while additional operating functions such as Frozen, Bagel, Reheat and Cancel, all help you curate your ideal toasting experience. Even clean-up is a breeze thanks to the copper-plated catch tray which collects crumbs as they fall to the bottom of the toaster and prevents them from scattering across the counter.

Beautiful

This toaster is beautiful... strange to say about a toaster, but true. Mine is a brushed silver with beautiful copper accents. It will be replacing a 4 slice toaster and I was a bit concerned about it doubling the time for our breakfast bagels and English muffins. I took it out of the box and note that it is simple in its elegance. There is the copper slider, a copper knob that sets the light/dark and cancels, and 4 buttons, two on each side of the slider: bagel, express finish, reheat and frozen. There is a side drawer that pops out to empty the crumbs. The cord is pretty long, but comes out under the front of the toaster which is inconvenient. There is a cord wrap guide that allows you to direct the cord to the back but by its design shortens the length of the available cord. The plug, unlike my old toaster, is three prong. I only mention this because I wound up needing a good extension cord to make it work in my spot. (Not generally a good idea to use an extension cord but sometimes necessary, hence “good” extension cord). Once you plug it in, the knob has a light around it. The heating elements hold the bread very firmly ensuring more even toasting. There is a pictograph on the top of the unit that indicates the correct way to position bagels so that the inside is toasted to your desired degree, but the outside stays soft but warm. I love the express function. It solves my biggest worry which was sacrificing time when toasting for two. The express does exactly that, faster toasting. All in all I really like my new toaster. It is beautiful while being very good at its job. Sadly, it is also very expensive. After all it is still just a toaster. If you can afford it and, especially if you have the full suite of the GE cafe appliances you won’t be sorry.

Watch may be smarter than me

I used it with my newer model android phone, replacing my older fitness tracking watch. The set up was simple and paired easily with my phone via Bluetooth. I really like the look on my wrist. The size was just right, not overpowering and only a little heavier than my previous fitness watch. I downloaded the WearOS app from Googleplay and followed the app instructions. I really like that are are lots of watch faces. One of my favorite features is the “always on” like a true watch. The app has its own fitness features such as heart rate, step counter and sleep tracker. There are exercise routines you can setup and it will track your heart rate and breathing, up to five different activities. The best thing is how easy my notifications for email, texts and calls are to get, plus news alerts.I have a hearing issue (so I’m told) and now I hear those calls and texts I’ve been missing, because the speaker works much better. I can even respond to them directly from my watch. I can answer and make calls and my contact list is right on the watch. There are several different battery modes, but in my experience on all of them, it has to be charged every 24 hours. My previous fitness tracker watch would last up to three days. But, this one has so many more features. I’m really enjoying the upgrade!

I couldn’t wait to try out the Vitamix Immersion Blender. It is larger than I expected about 17” of mostly stainless steel. I cleaned it following included instructions as recommended. I decided to make smoothies for my husband and me. We sliced a fresh apple, dumped in frozen strawberries, frozen pineapple chunks, a small cup of vanilla ice cream and a handful of ice cubes. I added a cup of milk. I turned on the power and set the speed to low as suggested. Nothing happened. Of course I quickly realized that I needed to hold the power button down in bursts. The Vitamix had all the ingredients beautifully blended in less than a minute. It is a power stick! The apple, ice cubes, frozen fruit, everything were smooth and creamy in the blink of an eye. It is so easy to use that I will never pull out all those blender pieces again. This will easily work in a tall stock pot. The cord is quite long and of course the Vitamix, as I said, is tall. The controls are placed perfectly and the stick is well balanced. Looking forward to some special soup this winter. I think any true foodie would be proud to have this in their kitchen.

Well I’m gonna admit it. Pressure cookers are scary for me. There is no real reason other than my Aunts story of the big spot on her ceiling when I was kid 65 years ago. Suffice it to say it had to do with a pressure cooker and an explosion. That is NOT this Instant Pot of today. I have the 8 quart version. It is pretty large and weighs 15+ pounds. It looks very space ship like. After unpacking it, I cleaned the pieces as described in the included manual. Be aware that there are two very small pieces. One of which is a tiny little silicon cap. That little guy is likely to get lost in this house. Just hope I haven’t forgotten it in my dish drainer caddy when I get ready to put the cooker away. First step after washing is to run a water cycle to remove any manufacturing “dirt.” Again the manual tells you what to do. I added water plugged it in and pushed a couple of buttons. (I wanted to run as thoughts of my aunts ceiling popped in my mind.) seriously there was nothing to it. Very simple. Included with the manual is a nice chart with suggested cook times for all the things you might want to cook. What I did was download the Instant Pot app. It has a nice little recipe book. I chose to start with the easy Pot Roast since I already had a roast on hand. There is a sauté function done right in the Instant Pot, no need to dirty a fry pan. I followed the directions in the app and in about an hour we had a great meal. Folks there is nothing to worry about. Everything is laid out with directions for whatever you plan to cook. If you like steamed food and have space go for it.

Love It

My husband loves flavored coffee but I prefer mine flavored by syrup or creamer of my choice. With the traditional coffee makers we had to chose which coffee to brew every morning. Then there was the yuckee filter to deal with. A few years ago I convinced him to try a Keurig with a huge variety of flavors and virtually no clean up. He loved it as do I. We decided to replace our bigger Keurig with this Supreme. It looks great on my coffee bar. The water reservoir holds the same amount of water and can be attached to the side OR the back depending on the “footprint” of your space. This is really convenient. The reservoir is clear unlike our previous one which was frosted. We can see the water level more clearly. It also came with a removable filter. We use filtered water so no need for this option, but nice to have. The rest of the options are virtually identical to our older model. Fill the reservoir with our filtered water, insert our coffee, select strong ( for us), size of cup, 12oz, Place our cup on the tray and press select. Steaming hot coffee in almost seconds. It seemed to both of us that this Keurig coffee was stronger and hotter than the old one. That may be a result of improved technology or just a function of new equipment. Either way, it was delicious! We noticed that instead of a single hole punched to inject the water, this one punches 5. Our tall travel mugs will barely fit but fit they will! Remember you have to slide the drip tray out for this to work. We love our Keurig and hope we never have to go back. Try it, it is great!

I was interested in this Breville Smart Oven Airfryer because I wanted to clear some kitchen real estate by replacing my old airfryer and toaster oven with one appliance. I really like the mat black exterior. It matches my other appliances and has a really stylish appearance. It comes equipped with a broiler, pizza pan, and airfry basket. When I first put it on my stainless steel cart, I thought it was missing a piece because the crumb tray is actually part of the front. I plugged it into a wall socket by itself. Breville recommends a dedicated circuit just for this appliance. WHAT. I can’t do that. There is also a special Breville Unique Assist plug. It has a finger hole to unplug it. Frankly, this plug sticks out from the wall about 3 inches which is very annoying and obtrusive.
Breville recommends cleaning all the new equipment and nothing is dishwasher safe. Then you need to run it through a cooking cycle before using it. There is no “set up,” just plug it in and start cooking. What that means is there is no clock. For this price I expected a clock to glance at when the machine isn’t being used. I guess we have enough backlights in the kitchen. I do love the size and concept of the airfry basket.
There is no “recipe book,” but about 6 recipe cards. Frankly nothing I would ever cook. (I’m not much of a chef). The instruction manual gives detailed instructions that don’t really tell you HOW to cook common items. My other manuals usually have a section dedicated to suggested cooking times and programs for multiple common items. For example I airfry frozen french fries and occasionally fresh fries. No idea how long to cook or what temp is best or if there is a meaningful time difference.

I decided to cook fresh skinless, boneless, chicken breast strips lightly dipped in olive oil, egg and flour. The tip in the instructions said if something might drip, use the broiler (the baking tray with a wire rack.) I didn’t really think it would drip but didn’t want to ruin my new airfryer, so I used the broiler. I was right, no “dripping” but some crumb drops. The problem was it never browned. I finally took it out put it in the basket and kept adding time. It finally browned in a few places and actually tasted very good.
The next day I made fresh bread and tried the toaster program. My husband probably “over” buttered the bread and so the top never browned in the preset 2 slice program. The bottom was nice.
Long review short assessment. My initial thought is this is an expensive piece of equipment that didn’t do a good job on my first two attempts. I will keep trying and maybe learn it was user error. Overall right now I can’t recommend this product as a replacement for my current airfryer, and there are many cheaper toaster ovens that do a better job and have that clock.

Does the job

I had a a battery back up in my home office that finally quit after ten years. This APC UPS 900VA was what I needed. My husband set it inside my desk cabinet and we plugged in my desktop Mac, modem and router in the backup designated outlets. The outlets were clearly marked which were backup or surge only. We decided not to plug in the peripherals (printers) since they were already on a different surge protector and didn’t need them to run in a power outage. There are nine outlets, so there is plenty of room if we change our minds. We elected to use the default alarm which will flash green lights if the power goes out, but has an audible when the battery backup gets low. We gave it a full twenty four hours to get charged. The next day, I simply unplugged the battery from the wall outlet to start a test. I looked inside the cabinet and noted that the light was blinking to indicate there was no power coming in but my computer was working and connected to the internet without missing a beat. Since we put the APC inside a well ventilated cabinet, I will never notice the blinking light but I was anxious to see if we would hear the alarm later to know how long the battery actually lasts. I came back to the den, picked up my tablet and continued searches an worked on line as normal. About two hours later, I noticed we were off line. I never heard the warning alarm. Of course it was inside the cabinet in another room and the air conditioning was running noisily. That was a little disappointing, but typically we know if the power goes out and I generally go to the office and shut down the computer. We know the APC does its job and when we get the next storm that kicks off the power our equipment will be protected from a surge, and as long as we are awake there’s time to finish any computer work, make notifications to the power company and shut down the computer safely. That is what we need. APC makes a great product and this one seems to be the quality we expect. Only time and storms will tell for sure. I would recommend this if you want that peace of mind to protect expensive equipment.

Great Mixer

I love Kitchen Aid. I got my stand mixer several years ago and it is built like a tank. I keep it on my counter and use it frequently. When I saw this cordless hand mixer I knew I wanted it. It feels like the same “tank” built quality that I expect from KitchenAid. It is heavy but not too heavy. First thing I did was charge it. It has an indicator light showing it is charging and goes to steady solid green when ready. When you turn it on, I love the way it starts up slowly and builds speed. I’m always slinging confectioners sugar over the counter top so this is a very nice feature. There are seven speeds and it runs through them smoothly. It is very quiet and and feels steady in my hand. Of course, for me, the cordless feature is my favorite. Cords are always a problem and get in the way both while using AND for storage. I didn’t notice any lack of power in this unit. I haven’t had to recharge it since I got it, but I have only used it a couple of times. Every cook needs a good hand mixer for those times when you don’t need the big stand mixer. I’m looking forward to having this gem for a long time. I would recommend it to anyone in the market for a good quality hand mixer.

We live in the south where summers are hot and humid. We have central AC but it is old. We wanted to have supplemental and even emergency backup in case it’s needed. Some days, especially in my corner kitchen the central AC just won’t get the job done. We have the small 6000 btu. It is actually quite cute. My husband installed it with minimal fuss, but because our vinyl windows have a lip or drop edge he had to install an insert that he made to level out the unit and stabilize it. I really like the digital display that lit up with the temp as soon as we plugged it in and turned it on. It shows the room temperature and can be set with time delays, and various modes such high, low or eco. You can leave the fan on all the time our auto as well. It comes with a remote control that allows all the features to be controlled up to 20 feet away. That means I can turn it on or off from my chair in the den which has direct line of sight. It can be set to auto so that it sleeps until the temp reaches whatever you set it to and then powers up. I can adjust the temperature if it gets too cool or the sun starts coming in hot, all without getting up. It easily cools my space and runs very quietly. If you need an extra boost or just need a small room cooled I would highly recommend this. At some point we may even move it to our tiny house that is just under 250 sq feet. Get one!

how long does it take to brew 1 cup large (not xtra large) and 1/2 of coffee carafe

There is a preheat that we touch on the way to the bathroom. Whoever gets back to the kitchen touches the 1/2 carafe button and coffee is ready in under 4 minutes, maybe quicker. The single servings are quicker, maybe a minute.

Is it worth the Ninja Coffee Bar Thermal Carafe System, Stainless Carafe (CF 097) over the CF091? The CF091 has a glass carafe than can stay heated in the warming plate vs the CF097 that has a thermal carafe. Trying to decide if it's worth the extra $$

I have the glass. Don't know why I'd need the stainless. The opening on the cafe could be wider to facilitate washing it. Too small for my hand.
