Looking for a Gaming PC? Look No Further!

After using it extensively over the past few days, the ASUS ROG Gaming Desktop gets my emphatic recommendation. I am completely blown away by its performance! It has the horsepower to run any PC games on the market, and run them well. If you are looking for a powerful Windows 11 gaming PC at this price point, then look no further.
There are gaming desktops that offer more performance, all of which are more expensive of course. In this unfortunate climate of supply shortages, you can’t go wrong with a pre-built gaming rig like this. I won’t get into the specs, which are clearly detailed on the product page, but rest assured that it has more than enough processing power and memory to easily handle any gaming or productivity needs you ask of it. After the initial setup, the system startup and app response times are lighting fast. Games and software are very fluid and responsive. I was especially impressed by the impressive frame rates and resolution. The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 video card really makes a difference!
A basic mouse and keyboard is included in the box so all that you need to get started is to connect it to a gaming monitor. There are more than enough ports and empty slots to accommodate some future expansion. There are 3 open slots to accommodate memory expansion in addition to the included 16 GB’s of installed RAM. A noticeable omission is that there is not a native USB-C port. But I feel that most gamers at this price point will be satisfied with the expansion capabilities. One important fact to remember is that the active video output ports are from the NVIDIA video card, which is located in the middle back of the chassis, not the video ports in the rear top left.
For gaming a SSD drive is a necessity because it vastly improves the system speed. The 512GB SSD drive is adequate for most, but I am supplementing it with an external 1 TB SSD drive.
I am very impressed with the build quality. It feels very solid without being too heavy. The RGB LED lighting look really nice and is fully customizable using the ASUS application. Also included is a clear side panel that can be installed to replace the right side panel. I especially like that it has easily accessible top front ports (1 headphone jack and 2 USB-A ports).
I wanted to give Windows 11 a quick mention since it is so new, and most people have likely not used it yet. There are differences between Windows 10 and 11, but users of Windows 10 will be familiar with the new layout. Windows 11 is a work in progress and I am expecting a similar experience that many of us had when Windows 10 was released. There is a lot to like about the new Windows OS, but I expect a trial and error growing process. I could write a separate lengthy review of Windows 11 in of itself, but am keeping my Windows 11 observations concise, because I want to focus on the ASUS ROG.
This gaming desktop is equipped with enough processing power and system memory to play any PC game out there. It is an excellent choice for any gamer that wants a powerful PC, but can’t or doesn't want to spend more money than what this rig costs. Because of the capabilities, performance, and features, you can’t go wrong by choosing the ASUS ROG.

Serious protection. Subtle styling. Built sustainably. I am using this with my son’s 7th generation Apple iPad. The fit is tight and snug and should protect his iPad nicely from most normal risks of damage. Getting the case on and off is somewhat of a task so I would only recommend this case to someone that is not going to be taking the case off frequently.
This LifeProof case is made from ocean based plastics and is marketed as environmentally sustainable. The plastic has a distinct feel to it and does not look or feel like traditional plastics. It has a very rigid feel. It is very lightweight and does not add much to the iPad weight.
If environmental impact is a priority for you, then this may be the case for you. If you like the traditional look and feel of silicon or plastic then you might not like this case.

Even though phones and other devices have improved battery life over the years, a quality portable battery is a must have if you are frequently on the go and away from power outlets. They are also invaluable in emergencies such as power outages or natural disasters.
This Anker portable battery hits all of the important areas: look good, nice selection of ports, and most important massive power capacity. At the time of this writing, 20000mAh is about the most you can get while still having a battery you can carry around with you.
Size and mass matters when it comes to batteries so the fact that it is about the same size as your phone is not a limitation. The size means that it can carry and deliver crucial power to power hungry devices. A smaller battery is easier to carry, but will not have anywhere near the capacity. Even though this battery is primarily designed for phones and tablets, I was able to respectably charge a few of my laptops to the point that I could keep them going until I got too a wall outlet.
Anker equipped this battery with 3 ports (2 USB A and 1 USB C). The USB C is Power Delivery (PD) and is used to charge the battery as well as charge other devices. It took me about 7 hours to charge it using a USB C to USB C cable with a minimum 45 watt power adapter. A lower capacity adapter and a USB A to USB C cable will still charge it, but it will take many, many more hours to fully charge. All of the charging ports are smart and will adapt to the cables you are using, and the required amps of the device you are charging. It has fast charge capability and charges my iPhone 12 to 50 percent capacity in about 30 minutes. Anker even included a trickle charge setting for low capacity devices.
This battery has a very nice fabric finish that will look great if you carry it around in your hand while attached to your phone. It also has a nice premium feel to it. Another thing I really like about it is that it did not get very hot to the touch while I was using it. Anker included in the box a nice carrying bag and USB C to USB C cable.

Brings Legacy Vinyl To The Digital Age

This Victrola record player is a great choice for casual lovers of vinyl that want to listen to records wirelessly. It performs admirably and does a great job of bringing the legacy format of vinyl into the digital age. Connected to quality headphones or speakers, it produces warm and impressive sound.
This compact and versatile player is easy to use and place. It can be placed anywhere you have room, as long as it is near a power outlet. It has the capability to play over speakers built into the player, wirelessly over Bluetooth, or using cables. I really appreciate the ample connection options that Victrola has provided!
My personal preference is to use the Bluetooth transmitter to connect to a pair of reference quality over the ear headphones. The Bluetooth connection was rock solid, and I had no problem connecting and maintaining a connection. To share music with others, I was also able to easily connect to an external Bluetooth speaker. I found the sound quality of the Bluetooth connection to be excellent. It is virtually indistinguishable from a wired connection and superior to using the internal speakers. The sound quality of the internal speakers is adequate, but do yourself a favor and use quality headphones or external speakers, you won’t regret it. Records offer a unique sound quality and need quality sound drivers to really shine.
I also tested the player with the headphone jack and as expected, the sound quality was excellent. I won’t use the unit that way often because I don’t like being tethered to the player, but the headphone jack can be connected to any speakers that have a headphone audio input. There is also a pair of legacy RCA audio outputs on the back of the unit.
While not being marketed as portable, I think the small size makes the player easy to transport. The dust cover protects the player, but can also be removed to facilitate being placed in areas that have a tight fit.
Victrola put much of the engineering effort into the really important aspects of this player. It features a quality Audio Technica AT-3600LA magnetic cartridge that really makes a difference. There are better record players out there, but only for much more money. If you are looking for a nice entry level Bluetooth record player, look no further.

Worthy of the Elite Name

I can say without reservation that the Jabra Elite Pro 7 wireless earbuds are among the best performing earbuds out there, and are truly worthy of the Elite name. They are my third set of Jabra Elite headphones, so I already expected great performance, but Jabra completely exceeded my expectations. I have used many sets of high end headphones from high end manufacturers, and these earbuds easily match and in some ways exceed the performance of all of the top names in the market.
After unpacking the earbuds, your first step should be to download the excellent Jabra App. The pairing process is completely seamless and I was up and running in no time. There is a very useful fit test in the App that notifies you if the ear tips you are using are not creating a tight seal in the ear canal. This is a crucial step because if a tight seal is not achieved then sound quality will suffer. The App is very full featured and allows an impressively wide level of customization and control.
Before I get to sound quality I would like to give these earbuds an honorable mention for comfort. These are the most comfortable earbuds I have ever used. Jabra has really hit a grand slam as it relates to comfort.
In the area of sound quality the Jabra Elite 7 earns the Elite name. These earbuds produce stellar full range and detailed sound. Bass response is strong and punchy. Out of the box the EQ is very neutral, so I used the App to select a sound profile that was more to my liking. Thankfully there is an excellent EQ feature in the App, that offers a near limitless level of customization. Jabra has obviously used high quality drivers because the bass response is naturally deep and penetrating, and not just from processing.
Headphone battery life keeps getting better each generation, and Jabra has really moved the bar forward here. I have been using them for a few days and they are still going strong so I fully expect them to meet the rated up to 9 hours per charge. Battery life varies of course based on ANC use and volume levels.
Speaking of ANC, these earbuds are very competitive with other market leaders. I find the ANC to be almost as good or nearly indistinguishable from market leaders. Unless you have Sony or Bose earbuds, then you can save a little bit of money and go with these. Likewise the sound hear through setting is very effective and creates a transparent feeling that I enjoy using when I am around people. This way I can listen to music or videos while still being able to easily converse with people around me.
I absolutely love the physical control button on each earbud. They make operating them as easy as pressing a button. The App even allows you to change how the buttons operate. I much prefer physical buttons as opposed to touch controls so in this area Jabra has set the bar for others to follow.
Jabra is known for excellent call quality so I was not surprised with how good the call quality was. The microphones and processing do such a good job that I think the call quality is better than using my phone alone.
The Jabra Elite 7 Pro earbuds are absolutely among the best of the best. The rich and detained sound coupled with excellent call quality, make them an easy choice for anyone looking for a pair of high quality active noise cancelling earbuds.

Great For Dark Winter Months

What we have here is an alarm clock that simulates sunlight for a more stimulating and peaceful wake up routine? Does it work? After 2 weeks of using it I can say yes. Waking up to sunshine has an overwhelmingly positive effect on my routine. If you live in a part of the country that has long winters then this device will be especially useful.
This device is capable of more than daylight and can actually cycle through several different colors. It can hit most of the main colors and even shades in between. So it is an effective mood light or light decoration.
Unfortunately I found the App to be unstable with my iOS device at times. Hopefully Beurer can correct this in the future. Fortunately most of the basic features of this device can be controlled with the manual control.

These Twinkly LED strip lights are easy to set up and fun to use. Right now I am using them as ambient lighting for my television, but will likely experiment with moving around the house for different applications.
These lights can be controlled at the basic level with the included controller unit, but I recommend downloading and using the Twinkly App. The App unlocks a multitude of features and controls that the manual controller can not. With the controller you can basically just cycle through the preset light modes.
The Twinkly App provides an amazing level of control and customization for the lights. There are several different presets to select from, as well as many different effects available in the Twinkly App Effects Store available to download. There is also an option to create a playlist of effects, and even a carousel command that cycles through them all.
The App amazingly allows each individual LED (all 99 of them) to be individually programmed to any color in the RGB spectrum. This is a very impressive feature that people who appreciate tinkering will enjoy. The potential for effects is nearly infinite because each LED light can be programmed anywhere within the color wheel.
The setup was very straightforward. Just plug it in to get started and use the manual controller to cycle through the lights. Once you have the Twinkly App downloaded, pairing is very simple. Creating an account is required to proceed, but I was able to use my Apple ID to do that. Facebook was also an option to create an account. It uses Bluetooth to start the pairing. Place the device in pairing mode by holding the button on the controller down until the indicator light changes color, and then use the App to find the device, pair it, and join your wireless network. The App controls the device via Wi-Fi. I did not use the adhesives on the back of the strip because I want to be able to easily move it around my home.
I am very much enjoying the Twinkly LED light strip. It is purely for fun and entertainment, and for that it serves its purpose extremely well. I am looking forward to using them in the future in various places around my home. The potential applications are nearly limitless!

Compact And Perfect for Casual Computing

If you are a user of the Google ecosystem then the Lenovo Flex 3 laptop/tablet hybrid is a great choice. It’s compact size makes it easy to move around the house or to take on the go. I have been keeping it centrally located in my house so I can use it instead of my phone for instances when it would be more efficient to use a laptop. In other words, it is perfect for casual computing duty. I think it would also be great for school assignments so I am thinking of passing it on to my daughter to use for her high school assignments.
In my experience Lenovo makes great laptops, and this model did not disappoint my expectations. It is very lightweight and portable and has a respectable feature set for the price. All of the necessary ports are included to make this laptop useful and expandable (USB-C, USB-A, Memory Card Reader).
One of the great things about Chromebooks is that they use the same Play Store as Android phones so there are a multitude of apps available that, for the most part, work with Chromebooks. Since most of the Play Store Apps are designed to work with phones, low power laptops are easily able to run them with sufficient performance. I was able to download several additional apps and still have about 16 GB of storage available for use. I am going to add a memory card at some point to supplement my available storage.
The display is suitable for watching movies and videos as well as viewing pictures. The touch screen is very functional and works well. The touch pad response especially impressed me and makes using this laptop without a mouse very easy.
The speakers are adequate for listening to videos on YouTube or other short clips, but I would recommend using headphones for critical listening of any kind. The keyboard has a nice feel to it and makes typing a pleasure. The keys are not backlit, but I did not expect them to be at this price.
Battery life is another area this laptop excels. It easily lasted me a few days of use without having to be charged. I estimate that the rated 10 hours of use is very accurate.
At this price range you can’t go wrong with this system. Lenovo makes great laptops and this one is no exception. It is a perfect choice for light computing around the home or for anyone that wants something compact to take on the road to complement their phone.

Cleverly Designed Coffee Maker

I was very intrigued to try this NutriBullet Brew Choice coffee maker. It makes, as the name states, it your choice to brew individual K Cups or a pot of coffee. There is one limitation that I will elaborate on more later in my review, but overall I am very impressed with the versatility and brewing capability of this cleverly designed coffee maker. Most importantly in either mode, It brews delicious tasting coffee.
It is very easy to set up and operate. If you have used a coffee maker before, you know what to do. It comes with a K cup module and a traditional coffee filter module. The brewer senses which one has been inserted into it and will then display the appropriate digital controls. The display buttons are bright and easy to read.
I really like that two washable filters are included, one for each brewing mode. This coffee maker has a nice appearance and will look great in any style kitchen. It feels constructed of quality components that should last quite awhile.
One limitation that needs to be considered is that the K Cup brewing mode is somewhat slow compared to a Keurig brewer. If you have used a Keirig before you will notice the speed difference. The brew speed in K Cup mode is closer to the speed of a traditional drip brewer. This may be because this machine is a traditional drip brewer as well as a K Cup brewer. This is not a problem for me because I am usually not in that much of a hurry to have my coffee ready, but this might be a deal breaker for you if you prioritize brewing speed. But if you prioritize having a brewer that can make a carafe of coffee as well as a K Cup, then this NutriBullet Brew Choice is the coffee maker for you..

Does What It Was Designed To Do, And Does It Well

This cleverly designed smart lock is useful for securing personal items in a cabinet or drawer. When engaged It will stop the door from being opened, but it by no means will stop it from being forced open by a determined person. It will not turn your cabinet into a safe, but when engaged the door is firmly shut and can be used to lock things away from children or for privacy.
Everything needed for installation is included, and I found the installation and setup process to be simple and straightforward. The Yale App is excellent and offers numerous features that make this lock useful. The App and the control and history information is the main reason someone would choose this over just installing a regular lock.
This smart cabinet lock does what it was designed to do, and does it well.

This Sony 4K HDR TV boasts 4K technology for vibrant hues. Its X940D series features a bold 75-inch screen and slim design. Wires remain hidden, and the unit is easily wall mounted. This television has a 4K Processor X1 and 4K X-Reality PRO for crisp video. This Sony 4K HDR TV is easy to control via voice commands.

Replaced an old SXRD Sony 60" from 8 years ago. Tried the 65" 930 model and that picture was good however not like the 940D. Full array backlighting makes a big difference. First one upon delivery had a line all along the right side of the screen and a horizontal line about 6 inches up from the bottom of the screen. Magnolia came out a few days later with a replacement and this one is much better. Remote control is not user friendly, poor design, Arc audio does not work with my 2 year old Yamaha receiver so must use separate fibre optic cable to allow audio to services. Sony 3D nothing like the Samsung. 4 free movies promotion was difficult to set up and must supply credit card info to get promo and only 8 titles to choose from. I wish they would have included the 3D glasses instead of free movies with a $6500 TV. Overall happy with the purchase and would recommend as a great home theater TV with lots of smart features.

Cable Box breaks ARC

Are you using a cable box? Cable and satellite boxes are notorious for breaking ARC. When I disconnected the cable box HDMI cable from the chain, ARC started working. I am going to get a HDMI "CEC less adapter" and connect it to the cable box which should fix the problem.

The Shark Vertex combines incredible suction power with the convenience of a lightweight cordless stick. It is about as loud as any powerful vacuum. To my ear no more or no less. I do not know the exact decibel level. But my pets run and hide from it.

No it can not. This camera does not have electrical connections for a junction box.

I want to use wireless assuming it has an internal battery you can remove, bring inside and charge then insert it back in unit? How does it work wirelessly?
The camera housing snaps out of the wall mount by pressing a button. You bring the entire unit in for charging. It is a very simple method.
