Excellent for large or small homes

In this day and age, home and personal security is a priority for many. Unfortunately this is usually tied to expensive equipment, time consuming and possibly destructive installation and costly monitoring fees. This system is designed exceptionally well and removes the barriers to traditional security systems. Not only will this system work well in a home but is well suited for those living in apartments that don't want to leave equipment behind should they relocate and there are no wires other than some items that plug into an outlet. First let's start with the basics, there is a cool looking control unit and multiple motion sensors, a keypad and door/window contacts. Big bonus is the camera that is compact and easy to mount. There is a huge list of other devices you can add on later. Setup is about as simple as it gets. Download the app for your phone and follow the instructions. This system uses an almost 100% no destruction installation. Removable double-sided tape makes installation and possible later removal very easy. Once everything was setup which took less than 30 minutes, everything was ready to go. Important to note, my system came with a 1 month of free pro monitoring but it is not required to use the system. Overall this is an excellent system simple enough for a novice to setup but with the functions and features of many hardwired systems.

It doesn't get much easier!

I don't think I have a TV in my home that isn't mounted to the wall. Adding or moving an outlet so I don't see wires is a pain. Trying to piece together the right components and then make sure you have the correct tools and undoubtedly something is missing and off to the store you go. This Helios kit provides everything needed in one easy to use and convenient package. Once you lay everything out, determine the location of where you want the outlet. Normally, when dealing with a wall mounted TV you want to find the stud to mount to it. In this case, you want to find the stud so you can avoid it. Once the location is set, the kit include a hole saw with a handle that you can manually cut the hole. I opted to attach the saw blade to my drill. After making sure I was not going to hit any electrical wires I put two holes in the wall. Using the included wall snake, I fed through the power cable. The rest was as simple as attaching the connectors and mounting the wall plates. The kit is well thought out and even allows for device cables to be run. Now everything is out of sight and working like a charm.

Amazing quality!

I had been told by folks that have used a sous vide cooker that I would love the meals that come from it. Well I have to say that the meals are quite amazing. This does come with a downside and that is time. Let's start with the quality first. I tried two main dishes, steaks and chicken, and both were amazing. Unlike of methods of cooking, there is no overcooking of a dish. Steaks were tender and flavorful and the chicken breasts were juicy! Although cooking with it is simple it does require some steps that you may not be used to. For me this was a big change since I have been on an air-fryer instant cooker kick for some time and been pretty happy. Those are usually ways to cook a meal that comes out pretty good in a short period of time. Sous vide requires a bit more time and planning. You will need either zip-top bags or a vacuum sealer, I already had the sealer so no big deal, a larger pot and time. for the steaks I think total time, prep to plate was about 1.5 hours. Once the cooker is done, I still seared the steak in an iron skillet for the final step. What did I get after the effort? A steak that was better than any steakhouse I have eaten at! The meat was tender and juicy on the inside and crips an flavorful on the out. I was actually able to cut the steak with my fork!!! This is not the method I would use to cook dinner on a nightly but for the times where quality is paramount it will be my go to!

Good for the price

I'm always looking for a good set of ear buds that I can use when I'm working around the house or traveling. Features that I look for are comfort, sound quality and battery duration. To start, these are nice looking ear buds that come with a number of different sized ear pieces to help you get just the right fit. I tried several before I found the ones that fit correctly and were comfortable. Once opened, charging was quite quick and sees to still be the case after hours of use. Once charged it seems that they do hold a charge for a respectable amount of time. I used them on a plan trip that was just over three hours and used them the entire time. A good starting point and we'll see how things go in the long run. For sound quality, these are not bad but not exceptional. For the price I think they are right in the ballpark. One feature that is exceptional is the noise cancelling function. Worked well on a plan with plenty of noise! Other nice features include the easy ability to adjust volume with simple taps. Same goes for fast forward and rewind. Overall a decent pair of earbuds.

Nice cooling in a compact package

This is an impressive fan that has a few features I wasn't sure I would use. First, the unit is extremely easy to assemble. There are three sections and a base. Each interlocks easily and there are alignment marks to get things just right. Once together, the footprint is quite small. It could sit it in the corner of a room and not be noticed. And since this unit is designed to be mobile, it has a handy carrying and storage bag. Another feature that is extremely hand is the multi-function remote control. All the functions on the fan unit are also on the remote. The functions on the unit include speed; 1-4, mode, timer and oscillation and of course the main power button. Speed can easily be adjusted in a stepped 1-4 scale. For the record, on 4 it kicks out one heck of a breeze. The modes the unit has include normal, sleep, breeze and power breeze. Couple these with the oscillating function and you can have a breeze in a pretty large room. The oscillations covers about an 80 degree area so everyone in the room can feel the breeze. The operation is quiet other than the noise of the moving air so you could use this in a bedroom at night without issue. I expect that I will take advantage of its portability and use this on the deck during the summer.

Solid especially for the money

Although I will spend a few extra dollars on phone upgrades, cases are usually where I try not to spend top dollar. When it comes to a case my needs are simple; something that will protect my phone, fells good in my hand and fits nicely in a pants pocket or a sport coat breast pocket. I also don't want to spend and arm and a leg to get one. I am looking for function above fashion. This case checks all the boxes. It is reasonably price and around $20 so it doesn't break the bank. It protects a phone from the hazards of everyday use. I am usually pretty good with not dropping my phone and may have once in many years. It's more likely to fall out of my car than anything else and for this it did protect well. Didn't even scratch the case! It fits well on the phone and is not overly bulky when you hold it. There is just enough smoothness that getting it in or out of my packet was easy but it sticks well in your hand. The MagSafe functioned as it should and I did not notice any slow down in charging. There is also a nice ridge around the camera area to help protect the lenses. Overall this is a well constructed case that seems like it will go the distance.

Great razor to keep a clean appearance

I try my best to keep up my personal appearance. Keeping my hair and goatee clean is a big part of it. Historically, a multi-blade razor takes care of the shaving and trimming activities. I have tried a number of different electric razors and none have provided the close razor stubble shave of a blade that I'm looking for. I typically shave every day to every other day with the exception of weekends where I give my face a break. Okay I just don't want to spend the time unless I have to. During the week though it's game on. Given my history of electric razors my expectations were slightly below average. What a pleasant! This razor has a very nice setup and works exceptionally well. Since it is cordless you will need to give it time to charge but it charged fairly quickly. There are a number of attachments to allow precision trimming on mustaches, goatees sideburns and just about anywhere else without nicking or cutting!!! One attachment allows for changing the cutting depth without having to change guides. Very convenient! As an added bonus, you can use it in the shower. It has worked so well that I have used it to touch up between shaves and it did an outstanding job! If there was one miss, it would be that I wish it had a carrying case for the accessories and charging cord. Guess I'll just have to put it in my shaving kit bag.

Solid Chair!

After years of using high back leather chairs in my home office I finally realized it was time for something new. Similar to the high end chair in my company office this chair is a fraction of the cost and equally comfortable. This chair is a solid, and heavy, piece of furniture. The chair comes unassembled but putting it together took about 20 minutes. I’m really liking the mesh fabric as opposed to the leather. Once assembled there are a number of things that can be adjusted. Of course the height can be adjusted with the touch of a lever. The recline can be locked into a position or can be unlocked so you can recline and sit up and the back follows. There is a lumbar support that comes in handy when you recline the chair. And lastly there is the headrest that is comfortable. The chair glides smoothly and the base has enough weight that, unlike some chairs, doesn’t feel like you’ll tip over if you move it to fast. Overall this chair can go toe to toe with those that can cost two to three times what this one does.

Great connected lock

For several years I have been replacing standard locks and deadbolts with smart locks. After trying many, I have to say that this one is one of the smoothest operating locks of all of them. It was fairly simple to install but a word of caution, follow the instructions to the letter and you will not have a problem. This includes when to put the batteries in! Once installed, you will need to download the app. Follow the install instructions and then you will have to connect the lock to the app. Again, follow the instructions in order! I say this because I didn't initially but once I did it all went smoothly. The app is pretty easy to navigate. It will allow you to control more than one lock. It has an activity history that I am three weeks into and can see every time the door was locked and unlocked either through the code or someone turned the handle! You can also setup individual codes for each user.
The lock itself is very sleek and would go well on any door. Bluetooth and Wi-Fi were the connections I used but I understand there is also for a z-wave plugin but you might want to check availability. Overall this is a great lock that operates well looks good.

Great way to start the day

Almost every morning my wife and I will go through a pot of coffee. Our preference is to use the French Press but during the work week, time just doesn't permit. Our current coffee maker takes between 15 and 18 minutes to make 14 cups of coffee. It is also somewhat a pain to add water as the gauge is on the side and isn't easy to see. So we decided it was time to do a upgrade. We wanted something that could easily and quickly make a pot but also had the option for smaller amounts like a travel mug. This coffee pot fit the bill. It brews a pot of coffee fast, less than nine minutes. You have the ability to brew standard, bold or mild. My wife was excited about the fact it can also do a cold brew! Some of the conveniences include the ability to remove the water tank and fill it and place it back on the maker. So much easier that me spilling the water trying to fill the tank. You can also fill the tank and it will only use as much water as what you set it to brew. If you brew a cup, which you can, that's all the water it will use. You have the ability to auto brew as well. Set it for whatever time you want it to start, fill it with everything it needs and it's ready to go. The only downside I have found is I cannot change the time it stays on after it brews. It is set for two hours and can't be adjusted. Other than than it is a great coffee maker that makes a near French Press cup of coffee.

I recently upgraded my desktop for my business to a 6 core AMD Phenom II processor and figured my 4 GB of memory would be enough. Although performance is amazing it just didn't seem to be where I thought it should be so I swapped out the four 1GB sticks for four 2GB sticks. Of all that's holy this things screams now! I have yet to come close to maxing out memory or CPU utilization even while burning a DVD, streaming video from the net and working on a presentation; 8% for CPU and 19% for memory.

5 out of 5Ditch the cable company's modem

After finally getting frustrated with the modem provided by the cable company I decided to get my own. Of course they asked why since I wasn't paying to lease the one I had. Well their own speed tests confirmed I had throughput of about 9Mbps on a good day when I'm paying for 20Mbps service. I swapped out the old modem with the Motorola, called them with the MAC ID and was up and running in a matter of minutes. Of course the first thing was to perform a speed test, the same one that I used before the swap. 20.6Mbps! Not only is my internet connection substantially faster but the built in WiFi has a better reach than my previous router AND the home network runs faster since I've eliminated a piece of equipment; stand alone router. My home network is used quite extensively too; 3 cell phones, 2 ipads, two laptops, 1 desktop, 2 home servers, 2 gaming consoles, 4 Blu-ray players, 1 stereo and a security system. This router/modem hasn't missed a beat yet!

9 month update

In all fairness I feel it is necessary to post an update to my previous post. First, 90 days after I installed it the WiFi would drop and not reconnect until i rebooted the modem. This normally would be that big of a deal except my home automation and alarm system run off the WiFi connection. When WiFi is lost for an extended period the security system will alert me with a continuous beeping until I deactivate it; even at 3 in the morning! Took it back and exchanged it for another thinking I may have just gotten a bad apple. Unfortunately that was not the case. Four months later the newer one started doing the same thing. There were times even rebooting would not solve the problem. As nice as it would have been to have one device that did the job of three, this was not it! Even the wired connections were beginning to run slow. I had upgraded my Time Warner to the 100Mbp package and was getting about 25 in most cases. Back to the store (yes I got the extended warranty) and I decided to go back to two devices. I went with the SB6141 which is basically the same device without wireless and routing. Plugged my Dlink DIR-655 wireless router into the 6141 and haven't looked back. The concept of an all in one device is great but the execution was well below expectation. One other thing, the interface used to configure the modem is basic at best. Most features are either on or off and some you just can't configure. Overall I would not recommend this product after using it for just under a year.

Will dvr change from each camera view continuously? Also is a 4k monitor required?, Are all 8 cables included?
You can configure the DVR to record on motion only by camera, or continuously record all cameras. It can even be setup to only record at certain times of the day. As for viewing, you can look at one camera at a time or all cameras at once. You can even create a tour that will rotate through specific cameras. A 4K monitor is not required but just like any screen it will affect the detail you see. everything was included to connect all the cameras the system came with. Hope that helps.

Is it possible to replace the hard drive with a different SSD?
Anything is possible but the reality is, is it worth it? IF it is similar to previous Surface laptops there are four torx screws under the rubber feet that once removed will allow the keyboard to be removed and provide access to the HD. For the record, I have not done this on a Surface Laptop 4, nor do I recommend it as it would void your warranty, but have seen it done on previous models so there is no guarantee the design is the same. Does it need to be connect to waterline
No it does not although that would be a great option. If you go through a lot of ice or entertain I would recommend the optional side water tank that connects to the unit.

It holds 3 pounds at a time and with it making a pound an hour it reduces the need to have a lot on hand at one time.
