After watching episodes of this 60s TV series all remastered & hi-def, I was really taken aback. As silly as it all is, it really & truly lives in the comic book world with its intensely bright colors & ham-fisted, tongue-in-cheek plots & dialogue. So naturally I upgraded my DVD of this ludicrous movie to the Blu-ray. The price is low & the entertainment level high!
I grew up on these (like everyone else on planet earth) & had my issues with Lucas' digital redux madness when the original three (4-6) were re-issued in the late 90s. But I still really loved seeing them again. I stumbled through episodes 1 & 2, finding some enjoyment as I went. Then episode 3 seemed to click back into the "real" world of Star Wars again. So when it was revealed that J.J. Abrams was taking over the franchise, I breathed a huge sigh of excited relief! I really enjoyed his STAR TREK prequels & SUPER 8, which lay the groundwork significantly. And boy-howdy was I NOT disappointed. I felt like the magic was back in what had become a bloated semi-corpse of pop-cultural iconography. A little bit of plot rehash to bring us back to the Star Wars universe, some familiar story lines AND faces, and some REALLY DYNAMITE SPECIAL FX SPACESHIPS & CREATURES. I can't wait for episode 8.

No matter how many times I've watched this whacked-out trip to Idaho, there will always be some ridiculous visual or line or exchange that will send me over the edge. While sort of aping on Wes Anderson's style through-out, NAPOLEON is almost more of a spoof than a rip-off & contains a glowing core of good-feeling happiness, as opposed to disaffected emotional trauma as much of Mr. Anderson's flicks harbor. This gem came outta left field, and through a rare mega-burst of advertising (at least for a picture this small), it became a super-hit. A must-have for every movie collection. Peace out.

These sleeves have the clear plastic insert, as opposed to the type with an open hole. They're durable & decently priced. The price is my only gripe, as it could be cheaper for the quantity & based on competitor prices.

I think Paul Rudd & Michael Peña are both excellent with comedy, while both have proven themselves outside of that genre. Edgar Wright is a classic example of a mega-talented nerd who loves to make fun films riddled with both action & comedy. So mix 'em all together, throw in some more great performers & top notch special fx and you've got what I think will be a highly underrated addition to the Marvel cine-verse. I know nothing of the original Ant-Man stories, so I didn't have any epileptic fits over accuracy (which are very tiring ways to poke holes in otherwise great flicks). I just enjoyed myself immensely for 2 hours. 'Nuff said.

I'm a big of QT's films. That said, I feel like he peaked with INGLOURIOUS as far as tight but still funky writing, tense scenes & gorgeous photography. DJANGO was pretty great, but seemed a little self-indulgent even for Q's standards at a few points. And I feel the same about the EIGHT, but for different reasons. Great cast, great premise & amazing gore fx, but the story very often feels like a play more than a movie. Since the derned thing is nearly 3 hours long, there are times when the talk in the room starts to get a little stuffy. The flick is still riddled with great moments (show-stealing Walton Goggins, for example), but it doesn't rank as high as some of QT's earlier work in my book.

Despite the fact that I grew up in the 80s and not the 50s or 60s, these original Gumby episodes were still on TV! Is it because they just couldn't think of things to put on the tube in the 1980s? Yeah. Right. More like it's because they're absolutely awesome & bizarre; simple adventures, often with a lesson, from a strange mind.
Capturing some of the late 70s and 80s themes of children faced with monsters or aliens & having to deal with the new enemy or friend without belief or help from the grown-ups, ATTACK sets us up in a British slum with some not-so-cute thug kids accidentally bringing about a vindictive alien invasion. Led by STAR WARS VII co-star John Boyega (in his first cinematic role), the kids spout infectious slang while navigating cops, drug dealers and strange, toothy, fur-covered aliens by the meteor load. I don't think any wheels are reinvented here, but the story is fast-paced & feels both celebratory & fresh. Believe.

I've enjoyed all of Scott Cooper's films, from the depressing CRAZY HEART to the gritty white trash of OUT OF THE FURNACE. So I knew it would take something cosmic to make BLACK MASS a complete dud. Packed with great performers (some very well known, others more obscure), this telling of Whitey Bulger's tale feels very real, but plays it at a medium pace. This feels true of Cooper's work so far, but may leave gangster flick fans feeling flat. The movie isn't played for sensationalism or thrills. Johnny Depp as Bulger is doing something much needed to bring him out of the ghetto of cartoonish goofery (PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN & the last few Tim Burton flicks) in portraying terrifyingly vipe t restraint.

I produce low budget creative video media & need discs to share & transfer anything from large resolution image files to complete DVDs. This batch had a very tiny percentage of duds (something most batches of 50 or more usually have) and no errors.
