A rather bleak Star Wars spinoff

Fans of Star Wars will enjoy this Star Wars side story, meant to flesh out how the rebels stole the Death Star's plans. There are lots of battle scenes, both on the ground and in space, maybe a bit too much if you don't like wall to wall violence. This spinoff doesn't have the moments of comic relief that exist in the main series, no Chewy, no cute droids, no flirting heroes. It's rather relentlessly bleak. But it is worthy of being a part of a great series.

If you like stage plays, you'll like this movie. In this drama, plot is secondary to monologs and dialogs, in which members of a working class African American family in the 1950s reveal themselves. This play looks at the inner emotional workings of a troubled father and the faithful wife and somewhat bewildered children who have to figure out their father.

A great feel-good movie

If you want an uplifting movie that makes you feel good, this is one. It's the true story of 3 African-American women working for NASA in the early 1960s, when American space efforts were just starting. These 3 women worked as mathematicians and engineers for NASA. The movie tells the story of how these 3 had to overcome segregation, racism and sexism to do their jobs. And they did that with personal grace and fortitude.
The only things you won't feel good about is that in 1960s America, African American women did have to deal with racism and sexism to do the jobs they were so eminently qualified to do.

Strength in great tragedy

The movie portrays the assassination and burial of John Kennedy as experienced by Jackie Kennedy. One can imagine that such a film would be somber and sad. This film is even more somber and sad than one might imagine. Natalie Portman superbly conveys the deep misery Mrs Kennedy went through, and makes us realize the great strength Mrs Kennedy possessed to get through that all and still hold herself together.

A movie about clumsy relationships

Set in the 1970s, an aging, single mom (Annette Bening) sees the need to help her teenage son grow up with a stronger sense of manliness. She feels inadequate for the job; so she recruits 2 acquaintances, a promiscuous teen age girl and an starving artist type of young woman to help. The son has strong romantic feelings for the teenage girl, who rather uncharacteristically can only relate to the boy as a platonic friend. The impoverished, artistic young woman hasn't put her own life in order, much less help anybody else. This is a gentle comedy about clueless but well meaning women and a girl offering help to a boy about his masculinity. They offer no real help beyond wanting to offer help, but that seems to be enough for good results.

Father slips into violence to save daughter

Tough guy Costner gets a better brain

Super-lobbyist Sloan (Jessica Chastain) gets knocked around by all these factors, and remains the smartest person in the room. Season 5 of Girls is funny, but it also is a good exploration of various kinds of relationships among young people and their parents. These relationships include long held friendships among women, platonic friendships between the sexes, romantic involvements between friends, and relationships to parents. The girls are growing up. They're still funny, but they also show some maturity in their emotional dealings. That added depth makes the series even more worthwhile.

An effective phone line splitter

I needed a phone line splitter allowing 2 lines from one phone jack. In the past, I've had a splitter with a male end that plugged into the wall phone jack and that produced 2 output jacks. To use 2 phones, you needed only 2 lines.
This splitter has no male end. The input jack on this device takes a phone line plug and the 2 output jacks also take phone line plugs. So, from the phone jack in the wall to your 2 phones, you need 3 phone lines: one from the wall jack to the splitter and two from the splitter to the two phones. That actually works better for me with less wiring needed since both of my phones are some distance from the wall jack but close to one another. I thus need only one long line, from wall jack to the splitter, and 2 short lines from splitter to phones. My old splitter with the male plug-in would have required two long lines.
The fit of phone line plugs into this splitter is snug in all 3 plug-in sockets, giving a good phone connection for both phones.

The specifications for the 455Ms is 10 minutes continuous run time. While I haven't watched the clock while shredding, my sense is you'll get longer than 10 minutes if there are any pauses between page feeds. Again, I haven't put a stop watch to the cool down time, but I'm guessing it may be 15 minutes or longer.
