Good show, good DVD set

This is one of those shows that isn't going to go down into the hallows of greatest sitcoms ever, or being a first choice to buy a DVD set of, but its instead one of those shows that when its on TV in widespread syndication, you sit down for 30 minutes and have a good laugh. This was Kevin James' breakthrough and he is a charming, funny lead who isn't that bad of a actor (Quite good actually and better actor than Seinfeld or Ray Romano will ever be) and has some great chemistry with Leah Remini as his wife and Jerry Stiller as his father in law. With some funny writing, standard sitcom tropes and a good cast, its actually one of the better shows to actually own on DVD, just not a great as Community but then again, it doesn't have to be. All the DVD's contain some good PQ with most of the seasons shot in 1.33 full frame faithfully replicating their broadcast quality with season 9 being in 1.78 and also being faithful to the original series. The audio is your standard 2.0 stereo track and does its job. And the extras are almost non existant with season one and two only containing major extras. Season one contains a commentary over the pilot with Kevin James and a producer, a featurette, a compilation of the funniest scenes of season 1 and two bonus episodes from season 2 and 3 which are quite redundant. Season 2 contains a commentary over one episode and a mediocre featurette. Seasons 3-9 only contain previews. The packaging is also very flimsy and lousy with a plastic hub holding all 27 discs, so be careful. Other than that, this is a good value, filled with hours of laughs, decent PQ and AQ and some okay extras over the first two seasons but don't expect anything like Seinfeld's quality sets.

Not quite The Ten Commandments....

Ridley Scott is one of the best directors who has ever lived with Alien, Thelma & Louise, Gladiator and Black Hawk Down just to scrape the surface of this multi-faceted filmmaker. He has a huge and wildly varied resume of films and his latest seems one of his most divisive and varied as of late. Exodus: Gods and Kings isn't his first foray into the sword-and-sandal biblical film (Heck, it isn't even his first sword-and-sandal epic) but this is one of his more interesting films, though far from his best. Visually its a feast with some great cinematography and epic CGI visuals, and some good performances, but other than that, it is fairly flat and was done better with Cecil B. DeMille's classic 1956 epic The Ten Commandments. This film is just too modern (Shot digitally didn't help matters either) to ever be a classic, with some weird casting choices and a screenplay with too many hands stirring the pot, but at least it isn't terrible like Left Behind. The PQ & AQ are outstanding with the 3D being truly awe-inspiring, with some of the best 3D in some time and the 7.1 DTS-HD soundtrack really being show-off worthy to everyone you see. And, as usual, the extras package is quite extensive (As per Scott's usually excellent home video release from LaserDisc on up to BluRay) with an awesome array of extras exclusive to the 3D release (The 2D release only has a few extras). Disc one is the 3D bluray sans extras, disc 2 (Or the only disc from the BluRay+Digital HD release) containing a commentary with Scott and co-writer Jeffrey Caine, deleted scenes in 2D and in 3D on the disc and a historical trivia track of sorts. Disc 3 contains a 2 1/2 documentary with 50 minutes of enhancement pods on this extra, some featurettes on pre-production, production and post-producion, trailers, tv spots and social media featurettes. Quite truly one of the best blurays of 2015, if one can only say the same about the film in 2014, but the extras more than make up for the price alone. Buy it now!!!

A fun comedy that totally caught me off guard.

Yes, I know of all the talent on board in front of the camera (Bill Nighy, Judi Dench, Maggie Smith among many more) and behind the camera (Director John Madden, DP Ben Davis, etc.) and many great reviews, I still thought this was gonna be either one of those boring BBC-esque films that would flop hard here in the US despite great reviews, or just be a forgotten comedy just a year after release, but after viewing, it is actually a delightful comedy. Yes, the cast is excellent, the direction superb, the writing nice and fun and the whole atmosphere in India help shape this into that is perfect for just about anybody to watch and forget about the world for 2 hours. The PQ and AQ are very good with great visuals of India (Shot on film which gives it a nice grain veneer) and some good audio, but nothing is gonna crack the windows or destroy the foundation but captures the dialogue and fast paced Indian locations quite well. The only downfall is some mediocre extras which are EPK featurettes and some sneak peeks. No commentary, no documentary, nothing. Oh well, at least you can get it quite cheaply and have a great time.

Awesome throwback to horror yesteryear!!!

Sharknado, Snakes on a Plane and now Wolfcop. I love watching movies that describe themselves in the title with most being cheesefests that rock, and the tradition continues with Wolfcop. If you love horror comedies, horror films from the 80s, or horror in general, I totally recommend at least a rental but then buy it afterwards. The DVD is the only way most can watch the film unless you buy this awesome BBY exclusive on Bluray. The PQ & AQ are pretty good, a definite jump on the DVD quality, but not quite Avatar quality (Since this is a low budget film after all) but the picture is very high quality and captures the mainly physical effects with only some poor CGI (Yet again, low budget) being a nuisance (Though not really indicative of picture quality). The sound is also well done, not a powerhouse,, but every line, growl, snarl, gunshot, etc, is heard with no problems as all. The extras are also quite good with a nice commentary, featurettes and more to compliment Wolfcop quite well. Overall, buy it now!!!!!

Yes, this is one of many Scooby Doo movies out in the marketplace, and if you can't tell, I am not a huge fan of them either. The origianl series had its charms, but was always the same thing week after week. Same applies here, with still the same focus on Shaggy and Scooby, in Mexico, solving mysteries while doing the same-ol', same-ol'. I'd recommend just watching Cartoon Network for reruns of the original series or hunt for the DVDs of the originals. At least the animation is superior here than the original series and the origianl voice actors do return as well, so something at least better than the newest releases but nothing much more than the 70s cult classic. At the very least the 1.33 (Full frame of older TVs, so don't be frightened of black bars on the sides of your HDTV) looks nice and sounds decent with the 5.1 surround sound track. A nice surprise is some extras along with a bonus movie of Scooby-Doo. The best extra is of course a commentary with Casey Kasem & Frfank Welker, a nice featurette, a slideshow, outtakes and some DVD-ROM extras on disc one. Disc Two containing Scooby-Doo & the Circus Monsters (Haven't watched yet) but fairly extensive set for a DTV cartoon. Only watch if you have a youngster or a die-hard fan of the series, but buyer beware.

The weakest one, but still fun...

The first two Expendables films were retro-80s cheesy goodness with some 80's stars (Stallone, Lundgren, etc) with mostly newer stars (Crews, Stathan, etc.) and even a few sports stars (Couture, Austin) with some good R-rated bliss, but this film killed it with the PG-13 rating and the overreliance on younger actors.I know to they cast them to A.) Pass it on to a new generation and B.) earn a younger audience in tandem of the PG-13 rating, but these films were for those who love action, grew up or loves 80s cinema and hard R's not the tweenage crowd. Of course it does have some really good action, has a big budget feel (Although I wish it was shot on film...) and has the best villain yet, in Mel Gibson's Stonebanks. Wow, just what a comeback film, but other than that, a fun rental. Of course the BluRay is excellent with a Dolby Atmos track (7.1 core so you can still get a terrific soundtrack on older equipment) that is demo worthy, sharp picture and some decent extras. There is a nearly one-hour making-of, some featurettes, an extended scene, a gag reel and most importantly an Unrated cut. Compared to previous discs, this is a rather lackluster package (where's the commentary?) but with great picture and sound, and some decent extras, along with the DVD (Theatrical only with this set and on its own) and the digital copy, its a must own, if mainly to show off your setup.

One of the best antivirus programs out there

Yes, I have used Norton, McAfee (The worst!!!! the Microsoft Explorer of Antivirus) Kaspersky and a few others, but the one I keep coming to is AVG. A great amount of security for the price (Of course the Pro software offers more but is pricier) with a good interface and easy to use for anybody who is a pro or someone who doesn't even know what a computer is or does. It also works fast and does everything it promises. Of course, there is a compatibility issue with Windows 10 as the included CD-ROM doesn't work with 10, but contact the AVG hotline or live chat with them to be sent a compatibility link to download it and it works fantastically! Totally recommended above all others!

Throw Momma from the Train is a classic 80s comedy that tells the story of a writer who is suffering from major writer's block, Larry(Billy Crystal), after his ex-wife stole his novel and earned millions based on his idea. He is stuck in a dead end job as a writing teacher at a local college, with a few pupils not really having the talent to write (One of his pupils actually just keeps pushing his idea of a coffee table book called "100 Girls I'd Like To Pork" with a subtle payoff in the end) with one in particular named Owen (Danny DeVito). He is a short, portly man who has no life beyond caring for his Momma (Anne Ramsey earning well-deserved Oscar nomination) who is old, brash and frankly pretty much unbearable. Owen keeps stalking his teacher in order to get a grasp of his material, but when he is told to watch a Hitchcock movie to learn how to write a murder mystery (Watching Strangers from a Train), he decides to murder his teacher's ex-wife, while he gets his teacher to murder his Momma. Of course Larry objects to this proposition but when he is accused of murdering his wife, he has no other choice than to hide out with Owen and learn fast to hate her and follow through with the plan. A nice dark comedy, with some great acting, funny screenplay, twisted cinematography by Barry Sonenfeld and a nice directorial debut by Danny DeVito and totally recommended for anybody who loves comedies, the stars, or anybody who likes to see a Hitchcockian movie. The BluRay picture quality is very nice, nothing like a nice sharp, modern picture, but detailed well enough and a nice grain veneer that accurately reproduces the look of the film. The audio is nothing special, with dialogue audible and accurate and some nice separation of sound effects and the funny twisted score by Thomas Newman but nothing to rattle the floorboards. The extras are fairly small, but some nice featurettes about the making of the film (No sign of DeVito or Crystal!!!!), writing the film and about Owen's psychosis of his obsession with Momma and some short, forgettable deleted scenes and the trailer. I wish there was retrospective interviews with the cast or crew and a commentary by DeVito (Who has provided them for his other films like War of the Roses, Hoffa, Death to Smootchy, and other films he has either starred in or etc.) but other than that, if you can get this for around $5, its a must buy, but at around $10 its only if you must own it or just want to spend money.

Great looking disc, just an okay movie...

Yes, the movie isn't very good at all, with impossible science, some mediocre performances by a lot of the cast, hackneyed script and just some unbelievable action scenes, but d*** if it isn't fun. Some thrilling scenes and one chilling scene of a tanker flowing down Wall St. (Though unbelievable) can't make up for the fact its a dumb popcorn flick. The picture quality still looks good, although a 4K display and a 3D remaster would be awesome, but the CGI and picture is crisp and sharp. The audio is also outstanding and very loud and deep. The extras are fairly disappointing with just the original DVD extras carried over, but also some exclusive BD-Live content on here as well. There are 2 commentaries by various crew members, deleted scenes with optional commentary, trailers for this and other Fox films a trivia track and a Java-based game. Other than that, its missing some great stuff thats on the 2-disc DVD edition like some good making-ofs and more. If you want great picture and sound, buy this BluRay, but if you want extras either buy or keep your 2-disc DVD.

Great transfer for a classic film
on August 7, 2015

If you don't know what this movie is about, then you must be living under a rock. The film is about a young man (Tom Cruise) who finds out his father has died and also finds out he has an older brother who is autistic (Dustin Hoffman in his second Oscar-winning performance) and who kidnaps his brother so he can collect a $3 million inheritance but bonds with him in the process. Classic movie, worthy of the 4 Oscars it won (Best Picture, Director Barry Levinson, Best Actor and Original Screenplay) and then some. Yes, some of it has aged poorly and the subplot of Charlie's car business potentially going under totally pushed in the background of unimportance, but still is a great film and will stand the test of time. The PQ, which is a 4K transfer, is simply marvelous, with great sharpness and colors on my 1080p screen. The audio quality isn't the best, which is representative of the 80s but everything is heard fine and dandy with Hans Zimmer's Oscar-nominated score and the great soundtrack benefiting the most from the DTS-HD soundtrack. The extras are mostly recycled from the older BluRay and DVD releases with three commentaries a deleted scene, but also includes two featurettes about the making-of the film and about the man whom Dustin Hoffman based his performance on. All around, a great disc worth owning just not showing off your home theatre system.
