This release compiles all 13 episodes from the fourth season of the NBC sitcom Community, starring Joel McHale as the sardonic leader of a wacky study group. This season of the show is notable as it was the first to be created without input from series creator Dan Harmon, who was fired from the program, but returned for its fifth season.

The Gas Leak Year....

Community is one of the most overlooked shows ever released, struggling with the ratings constantly, some major cast shake-ups, Dan Harmon being fired then rehired, little awards love (Always going to The Big Bang Theory or Modern Family for Best Comedy.... yeah, right.) but it makes up for it with a large and very vocal fan base, creative and hilarious episodes and just a very filmic show that is one of the best ever released. Even if season 4 is the weakest season yet, due to different show runners, but still is way funnier than most comedies out there. The Community DVD sets have been known to be some of the best out there and this set continues that tradition. The PQ, sourced from digital cameras, is as good as ever, looking better than some movies and equals a lot of the film-y shows out there. The AQ is rather decent, but the 5.1 audio should be enhanced a little more to make it more epic in these episodes, though the dialogue and music come through well and is very balanced. The extras though, is where the real fun kicks in, starting with commentaries over all 13 episodes, with a revolving door of various cast and crew members discussing everything from set stories to just plain joshing around. 2 behind the scenes featurettes revolving around the Inspector Spacetime convention episode and the muppet episode are here, along with outtakes and deleted scenes round of this great DVD set. Only wish is Sony would release the series on Blu Ray, but other than that a must own set!

The little film that could....

I just can't see how popular this film was received tot he tune of around $240 million dollars in America alone, great critical reception and even an Oscar nomination for Nia Vardalos for her screenplay. I did enjoy the film, thought it was funny, but it is very cliched in the clash of clans sort of way. Its performed well, directed decently, and the chemistry is there, but nothing else shows me to the extent of how culturally relevant this film got. The PQ is decidedly well done, masking the fact this was a very low budget film, retaining the color and warmth of the film and having a filmic layer from its original 35mm film photography. The AQ is also well done, retaining the talky nature of the film with the score being filled out nicely. Extras wise, the original DVD only contained a commentary with cast bios (Which is included on disc 2, with widescreen & fullscreen versions), with this Blu Ray retaining the commentary with a 30-minute retrospective and 5 minutes of deleted scenes to round of the extras along with a digital copy round of this mediocre 10th Anniversary release. Only recommended if you're a huge fan of the film and if you can get it very cheaply.

It took its sweet time, but there is finally a sequel to the cult classic Anchorman, and it actually stands up toe to toe with the first film. Filled with the original cast, not missing a beat in the 9 year span, funny script and directed really well, this is actually worth your time and guaranteed to make you laugh and fall in love again with the characters, or at least a lamp. The PQ sourced from a digital shoot is very impressive with loads of detail in the sets, costumes and actors and very sunny scenes to follow through with the original look of the first film to great effect. The AQ is as equally impressive, with certain scenes with nice bass, surround use and accurate dialogue heard throughout. Following through with the first film, there are tons of extras to spelunk through, including 3 different cuts of the film, spread over this 3-disc set. Disc one holds the Theatrical cut and Extended cut with the commentary with cast and crew, one featurette, 7 different sets of outtakes and alternate lines, and multiple sets of table reads. Disc two holds the Super Sized cut of the film, four featurettes, deleted and extended scenes, Pre-visualizations, audition tapes, music video and multiple trailers finishing off disc 2. Disc 3 is just the featureless DVD of the theatrical cut only and a UV code rounding off this amazing Blu Ray disc. All in all, this is a huge recommendation with hours and hours of extras, multiple cuts of the film, amazing picture and sound make for just an awesome time.

Scorsese is back in his comfort zone!

After winning a long-awaiting Best Director Oscar for The Departed, Scorsese dilly-dallied around with music documentaries, a horror movie, a much-beloved but little scene kids film, and a critically acclaimed TV series, he is finally back where he was sorely missed, the hard-R criminal film. This time though, this criminal is white-collar and is based on an actual person. Profanities, drugs, escorts, random shots of a mini Jonah Hill and more abound in this film, and with a terrific cast, legendary director and a terrific script make the 3-hour run time a breeze and a pleasure to walk through. The PQ (Captured from a mixture of 35mm film and digital sources) is sharp and detailed and appropriately filmic, with the digital segments sticking out a bit more with the usual problems of motion blur and extensive light gain, but nonetheless is a great transfer representative of how the film was shot. The AQ is also well done with the dialogue being clear and centered, music mixed well ad well-chosen and surrounds put to good use. The extras though, are a bit disappointing, since I haven't heard Martin Scorsese record a commentary for one of his own films since The Aviator back in 2004 and also a lack of the Director's Cut released elsewhere in the world. Included are The Wolf Pack featurette being a 17-minute featurette about the film. The BBY exclusive also includes a bonus Blu Ray disc with featurettes about the making of the film plus interviews with DiCaprio and Scosese. Not much else, except for the featureless DVD and the UV digital copy. Still recommended for the top-notch presentation and amazing film, just pay less for the standard release and hunt for the BBY exclusive if at all possible.

Great 3D for a great movie!

Coraline is probably the best stop motion animated film I have ever seen, better than ParaNorman, Frankenweenie and even The Nightmare Before Christmas (Yeah, I went there) with a great story that is very dark, great visuals, terrific animation and pitch-perfect performances which isn't as fondly looked back on than it deserves. The PQ and AQ stand up and is totally worthy of this film with the PQ of the 2D and 3D being amazing and just.... Wow! I noticed no crosstalk or ghosting on my 3D TV, so its one of the best 3D Blu Ray pictures ever, with it being just a hair dark, but other than that, terrific. The audio is also a match for the PQ, so no problems hearing dialogue, music or sound f/x's here. The extras carries over most (Most.... losing the 3 P-in-p in movie tracks which are pretty good, and is worth keeping your previous release to just have the complete package) of the extras from the original Blu Ray, with the awesome commentary with Henry Selick and Bruno Coulais, 8-minutes of deleted scenes, a 35-minute making-of documentary and 2 featurettes rounding off this impressive, though not complete 3D/2D combo disc. The DVD included is supposed to be the original 1-disc DVD with just the commentary, but mine contains the second disc from the 2-disc DVD set which only has extras and the digital copy, but still nice to have. All in all, worth owning, but not above $20 for the 3D.

One of the best sci-fi films of the past decade...

I figured that one of the few good movies to come out of Hollywood (And a film with alternating titles constantly along with being a comic book adaptation) that surprised me and most everyone who viewed it. I just loved how it combined Saving Private Ryan, with some Starship Troopers and a lot of Groundhog Day and it doesn't sound that odd once you watch it. Just go in and enjoy this sure to be classic film. The PQ is amazing, with a great filmic image (Since it was shot on 35mm film) that is gritty, but sharp and well-defined image, and is also available in 3D. The AQ is also amazing, in 7.1 DTS-HD(!), with grand, sweeping surround use, deep bass, and accurate dialogue and sound mix. The extras are not hugely extensive unfortunately (No Doug Liman/Tom Cruise commentary?) but whats included is plentiful. The biggest and best extra is a 43-minute making-of documentary which is fairly extensive, with a focus on Doug Liman but also is a fly-on-the-wall BTS as well. The are also 3 featurettes, focusing on the beach scene, weaponry and the alien creature design lasting about a half hour in total. There are a few deleted scenes along with a BBY 30-minute featurette that also comes with a DVD and a UV code to round out this Blu Ray package. All in all, recommended for action fans, Tom Cruise fans or just needing an impressive disc to show off your set up.

At least the remake brought some good....

The 2012 remake was unneeded, like it never needed to happen. Yes, it was a little closer to the original Phillip K. Dick short story and did have better effects and a higher budget, but it was a hollow shell compared to Paul Verhoeven's classic. This movie has Arnold Schwarzenegger saying awesome one liners and delivering a good performance, some good performances from the rest of the cast, great sets and special effects and makeup effects. Yes, some of the CGI effects have aged a bit since 25 years between the dawn of CG and now, but still hold up remarkably well. The PQ has had a major remastering done and is spades better than the original early Blu Ray, with little to no signs of DNR, detailed picture and a nice filmic layer of grain! The AQ is also terrific with explosions, gunfire, ambiance, dialogue and the awesome Jerry Goldsmith score coming through beautifully through my speakers! The extras are also fairly extensive, with the 2001 special edition DVD extras being carried over for the most part, with the hilarious commentary by Verhoeven and Schwarzenegger, the making of half hour documentary, an EPK featurette and trailers, along with some newer extras such as a 35-minute interview with Verhoeven, a lengthy piece on the creation of the Oscar-winning special effects, an HD photo gallery and a 5 minute piece on the restoration of this film. All in all, a totally recommended Blu Ray and movie!!!!

All I can say about this film is just to see it. Great acting, terrific story, pinpoint acting and scarier than all get out because it has almost actually happened. Just a chilling film that will intrigue the mind and spirit about our infrastructure and bureaucracy. The PQ is nothing major but does well with stable colors, some minor grain spikes but resolves well and nice detailing with the AQ adequately capturing the dialogue nice and evenly with the rare instance of music popping up sounding good as well. I wish there were more to the extras, such as a commentary by Michael Douglas and Jane Fonda, or an extensive documentary about Three Mile Island incident and the making of this film, but whats included is still highly recommended. There are two making of featurettes lasting nearly an hour and some minor deleted scenes and trailers. All in all, a total must see film!!!!

If you are a fan of Watchmen, either the legendary graphic novel or the surprisingly awesome 2009 film, this is recommended viewing with some awesome graphics and a good story to boot that is integrated into the awesome Director's cut from the same year (2009). Totally recommended for fans! The PQ is really good on both films, and the AQ is equally awesome, only bested by the Blu Ray. Theextras are fairly slim, but does contain a 25 minute making of the animated films, a 10-minute video about the first chapter of the Watchmen graphic novel, a 10-minute preview of the Green Lantern DTV DVD, plus it comes in a BBY exclusive steelbook, a Digital Copy on disc. All in all, a good time that you should pay for about $10 or less.

Ted is alone in Hell...

Yes, this was made in the early days on the comic book influx of the early millennium, and got lost in the fold of things. It made decent money, got decent reviews and not bad considering the film was the debut of The Hunger Games: Catching Fire helmer Francis Lawrence. Still, I can't get over Keanu Reeves starring as the British, hard smokin', hard drinkin' John Constantine. Still, he does well though not excellent, and the rest of the cast does well as well. The film looks excellent though with some excellent CG, but nothing much else of note. The PQ and AQ are strong, but nothing fantastic and needs a 4K remastering, which would be nice considering it has been successful on DVD and BluRay and seen on TV quite often but other than that, a nice picture. The same goes for the AQ, but fares a bit better with a nice soundscape and plenty of bass. The extras, however, are very plentiful filled to the brim with 2 commentaries with Lawrence and producer Akiva Goldsman on track one and the writers on track two, a P-in-p in movie experience, 14 featurettes, deleted scenes and trailers fill out this well-stacked edition. Only buy it if its cheap, but still a good movie, just not great.
