Winter dryness needs a Humidifier!

Winter really takes a toll on the humidity in our house.. No open windows, heater running, lots of static. So a humidifier is a necessary evil. We have used humidifiers in the past, but usually not for the best. Some leaked, others made it so hard to refill their tanks. Enter the Kyvol Ultrasonic Humidifier! Not only does it humidify the air relatively well, it has handles all over the water tank making it much easier to refill and replace. The bottom part is the ultrasonic device that produces the "steam" that humidifies the air. I say "steam" cause that's what it looks like, but in reality it is more like smoke, as it is not hot at all. The whole upper section is the water tank and outlet. On top is a vent that can be aimed anywhere you want the flow to go. We learned that it was better to use this than not. The Kyvol really helps get lots of humidity back into the air, thus eliminating the static electricity that zaps us everytime we touch the door or each other. It also helps with frizzy hair on us and the dogs. Just remember to use distilled or minimum-mineral water as it will produce a white dust if used on higher volumes of air. The volume of humidity is determined by a dial on the front and is not controlled by any type of level. We have a temperature gauge in our house that also measures relative humidity so its easy to determine if we need higher or lower. This is a great device to have during the winter or anywhere enhanced humidity is needed. Very quiet so it can be used in bedrooms too! Highly recommended!

Good Noise Blockers, and then some.

Got these cool-looking, industrial appearing, Saf-T-Ear Bluetooth Earbuds and was impressed with the packaging and details. Opening was straightforward and simple. Inside you'll find the earbuds themselves, as well as additional tips, case (really a plastic bag) collar clip and charging cable (micro USB). The earbuds are safety yellow and grey plastic, with yellow and black braided cord. The provided eartips are "foam" types, and a good seal is critical to assure the rated noise reduction and safety. It has two separate control pads that feel a little cheap but functional. One is for the Bluetooth controls (Volume Up/Down and Play/Pause. The other pad is for Ambient Awareness Control (On/Off, Volume Up/Down). Use these sparingly based on your surroundings so you don't accidentally amplify the very sound you are attempting to block. In fact, where I work, I might not ever use the ambient mode. The high noise level makes ambient mode pretty much unnecessary. The earbuds work well in Bluetooth mode, allowing for phone calls/music in high noise areas, The background noise all but prevents callers from hearing me, but I could hear them clearly. In the safety, noise blocking modes, the earbuds worked well with both sustained and transient noise. I cannot determine if the levels of noise reduction is truly 40 decibels, but I believe that it is based more on frequency than overall. So, these are good overall safety noise reduction buds, with bluetooth capability, that have a somewhat limited ambient mode. Don't necessarily have any groundbreaking abilities but no deal breakers either. I believe they are well worth their price.

Great Charger Since None From Apple

The Anker - Powerport III Nano Pro Duo 40W Fast Wall Charger is an excellent charger for all your Apple and USB Type C devices. Since Apple decided to not include a charger with their new cell equipment, Anker has filled in the gap with a product worth every dime! It now powers my iPhone, iPad and Macbook Air with ease. It has no cables with it, but all these devices at least had the cables. But it isn't limited to just Apple devices; It has PowerIQ that adjust to whatever device you are charging. It is a bit of a misnomer that it is always 40 watt output; that is it's max. If you use both ports (it has two) at the same time, each port is then divided to 20 watts each (which still matches many other companies single output). It has multiple safety features to keep your equipment safe (Power Tuner, Temp Sensor, etc) and is as small as two Apple 20w chargers stacked together. The prongs do not fold, but at this size, it kind of doesn't matter. It is glossy silver and white with a little heft to it, giving it a premium look and feel. Charging times are really fast on all my devices, much quicker than competing products. In fact, this by itself will replace all the other chargers that I used before. Only the Macbook's charger gets to stay on the counter. Everyone else is going in a drawer somewhere. Save some money and headaches, get this Anker Nano Pro charger. It is truly worth it's weight!

Good For Conversation, Not So Much For Music

The Sony NB-10 Neckband Speakers are built for a pretty specific purpose; as long as you understand their goal, they could be very good for you. If you are expecting great entertainment and musicality, you are in the wrong place! The Sonys are very comfortable to wear, whether above or below your clothing as it sits around your neck. The controls are soft buttons along the inner-edge of the speakers. On/off, bluetooth connect, mute and volume controls are pretty much it. They are simple to use once they have been set-up to your phone or computer. They do not, however, use the Sony app to control or customize the sound. They have a very clear and concise sound, and because they are open, you still hear all the world around you. The microphone is very good and sounds very natural to callers I spoke with. These are excellent for office, Zoom, home office and places where still being able to hear what's going on around you is important. They are not sound-proof just to you, as anyone around you, depending on the volume, can hear what you hear. Battery life is really good and recharging is accomplished with USB-C (Thank you, Sony!) Now, these are very good for the specific purposes of conversation and meetings. If you are looking for great sound for music or movies, you've come to the wrong product. Bass is almost non-existent. The treble and mids are good (hence, good conversation) but that's about it. Be aware of those shortcomings on these neckband speakers and these are excellent meeting/conversation/Zoom-Call speakers!

Excellent Sound, So-So Noise Cancelling

For the price of the Devialet Gemini Earbuds you would have the expectation of the perfect earbuds. These are close, really close, but they are somewhat let down by the "just okay" noise cancellation. Others have complained about the Devialet app also, but it met my needs. The case for the earbuds is HUGE, but it charges wirelessly and by USB-C, so that's a plus. The earbuds themselves are not small, but not overly huge. They fit my ears well and made a good seal (which is absolutely necessary for good bass and soundstage). Different size ear tips are included. The earbuds are a dark gunmetal grey with Devialet's little brand on the outside. The app and earbuds (through touch) switch between transparent (hear outside world), neutral (just in your ears) and cancellation (noise cancelling on). Transparency and neutral are pretty simplistic and work. The noise cancellation works okay, but for this price they should be top of the line. Where these things shine is in sound reproduction. I am not sure that I have a better set of in-ears, with outstanding depth and reproduction. Sounding tinny at first, I have found that over some breaking-in time (about a week) the sound has leveled out and become much warmer and inviting. For wireless earbuds these are my best so far. Not quite to the level of my best wired in-ears (which cost substantially more) these are a very close second! So, you must understand what you are getting for your money... An excellent pair of earbuds with outstanding sound, but just okay noise cancellation. How you spend your money should be directly related to what you are expecting from this product. Sound, a resounding yes. NC, not so much...

Weird at First, but Later Wonderful

We got this item looking into making home-made ice cream, something along the lines of a "pour in, ice cream out" type of experience. Not here! Once we got in to it, I was beginning to think, this not at all what I expected, this is a blender... But boy, was I wrong. Once you get this all set up and learn there is a little set up time involved, the end product is great! It comes with three-pint sized cups where you place all your ice cream "fixings" and freeze them over night or a couple of hours (seemed like 5 hours was enough). Once that was done, you load it into the CREAMi and about two minutes later, out comes very smooth ice cream! It also does milk shakes, sorbets and gelatos (didn't try that!). It has a mix-in feature so you can also build your own "Blizzard"... Easy to setup, easy to clean and simple to use. The only thing is you have to have the patience to plan ahead for what you want, as this is not an "instant" ice cream maker. Really looking forward to lots of great home-made ice cream for the rest of the summer... Now where is the whipped cream!

The Absolute Best Keyboard Case for iPad Air 4

I do my best not to use terms such as outstanding, awesome, excellent in my reviews as there are usually just buzz words to make you look at their reviews. On this product, however, I feel compelled to use these words. This Logitech Combo Touch keyboard checks all the boxes better, cheaper and more complete than Apple’s own accessories (which, other than the cheaply part, is usually very hard to do). The case fits very snugly and protects all parts of the iPad, unlike many other keyboards. It is two pieces, with the actually case and the keyboard front that can be detached. The keyboard connects via the Apple Smart Connector which makes it less prone to connection problems than the “Bluetooth” keyboard cases. It also derives it’s power for backlighting from this connector, thus no batteries or charging. The keyboard can also be flipped around so that when you are using it in portrait mode or reading, you are not pressing on keys when holding it, as the keys are flipped against the rear of the case. I love this as with other cases, it is annoying to try and hold the tablet and still touching keys. It has an excellent touchpad that mirrors the Apple touchpad and all it’s gestures. There are no longer any “dead spaces” as with previous versions and is extremely responsive. You can even enable tap touch that makes it easier to use. It also has a dedicated row of functions keys for display brightness, keyboard backlight level, player controls, volume and lock keys. These are awesome in use and really give the iPad a laptop feel to it. The surfaces has a fabric feel to them, and the keys have a great response and speed. The hand rest is much larger on this Logitech than on other keyboard cases I have seen, which is a good thing. The hinge is solid, but does take up some space depending on how far back you lean it. It works much better on a flat, solid surface than on a lap or pillow, so keep that’s in mind. Also, the case is thick, giving a good amount of heft and thickness to the iPad (which I myself like) but it also limits what can be plugged into the USB C port. You might have to use an extender depending on what you’re using. The Apple charging cable has no issues.
So, to sum it up, there are probably better keyboards out there (Apple) but no where near this price range. The cons are so few and minor on the Logitech Combo Touch that it is probably the best product accessory that I have purchased for an Apple iPad. This is an awesome case, an outstanding keyboard, and an excellent price! Highly recommended to any Apple iPad Air user!
So, to sum it up, there are probably better keyboards out there (Apple) but no where near this price range. The cons are so few and minor on the Logitech Combo Touch that it is probably the best product accessory that I have purchased for an Apple iPad. This is an awesome case, an outstanding keyboard, and an excellent price! Highly recommended to any Apple iPad Air user!

Man This Thing is Great for Traveling

We got the Larq 17 ounce water purification bottle just in time for a protracted trip across the western U.S.. As we didn't want to load the car down with water bottles and/or the remnants of them, I decided what a great time to test out the Larq. As most places still have water fountains, filling the Larq was easy. I would never consider drinking directly from those water fountains, but I trusted the Larq to keep me safe. I was not disappointed. It really did an excellent job at keeping me from any type of stomach distress. It has two modes, normal and adventure, the difference being the amount of time the UV light illuminates to sanitize the water and bottle. Normal is for known, commercial or regular water sources. Adventure is when you are using unknown or questionable water sources, and provides longer UV sanitation. The Larq also has a self-cleaning mode that activates every two hours for 10 seconds to keep the Larq clean of any "baddies" that try and build a home inside. The top of the Larq glows different colors and patterns to show the current status (cleaning, safety modes and high temperature). The bottle keeps cold water cold for at least 15 hours (verified by my use) and hot for 12 hours (didn't try the hot fluid). A charge usually lasts a in normal use (which is true) and the bottle will begin flashing when it requires a charge. Mine fully charged in about an hour. It also has a "travel mode" that shuts down the Larq to prevent the cleaning and deactivates the self-cleaning mode, so if you don't plan on using it for a while. The Larq will NOT change the taste of the water per se, but helps guarantee the water inside is safe from causing you gastric issues. We completed the trip, using the Larq and water fountains located and various stops along the way. No issues and very happy with it's use. No smells or growth of foreign "baddies" trying to grow inside. We are planning an international trip next year and will give it a full workout then. So far, the Larq has proven itself to be a excellent replacement for a carload of plastic bottles and provide safe, cold drinking water during an extended drive. Highly recommended!

Better Than That Named Brand

The Filtrete Air Purifier for large rooms is excellent at it's ability to clean the air in our room. The controls are simple and operation is excellent. Upon the unboxing we located the system, filter power and several guides for set-up and use. We used the quick set-up guide to get everything started. We also downloaded the supporting app to be able to control the unit. Set-up was simple and the app is well laid out and easy to use. We automated the rum time and can view temperature, air quality, filter life and amount of pollutants in the air. As far as air cleaning, it gets the job done. Our unit is adjacent to our kitchen so it ramps up any time we cook, as it detects air quality. It was equally impressive when my wife decided to spray air freshener and the Filtrete detected it and ramped up the fan speed again. There are much larger versions on the market that might or might not produce the same results; but as an owner of several air cleaners (we have bad allergies) I can tell you this Filtrete Smart Air Purifier exceeds the ability to clean the air with the best of them, with a really good price. Highly recommended!

This Chromebook Rocks!

I have used many Google Chromebooks in the past as part of my profession, but the Acer Chromebook Spin 514 is the best (in it's price range) I have used thus far. It is based on the AMD Ryzen chipset which provides plenty of power for the Google apps and others that run on the Chromebook. The screen, while a bit on the reflective side, is Gorilla Glass making this a tough notebook. Actually, the whole thing is Mil-Spec'd for toughness, so I have no issues tossing it in my briefcase without worry. The screen is a touchscreen, but the touchpad is very responsive also, so you have the best of both worlds. The display is full HD at 1920x1080 dpi. It comes complete with 2 USB Type C ports, 2 USB Type A ports, headphone jack, Kensington lock port and a Micro-SD card slot. It charges by the supplied USB C charger, which at 15 watts is pretty quick. The Spin 514 can be used as a normal Chromebook, in tent (display) mode, or as a rather hefty tablet. With built-in AMD graphics I have had no issue with any apps I have loaded. The Spin 514 has 4gb of system memory and 64gb of storage. As I stated before, it also has a micro SD slot which I have a 128gb card in, so no issues with storage. The Acer Chromebook Spin 514 is an overall excellent Chromebook, a great step-up from the vanilla, basic Chromebooks on the market and used in some schools. It is versatile and allows for much more robust work to be accomplished. Highly recommended.
