I grew up in the '90s and this show was always on reruns on the WB (current CW) channel, but I never had the chance to see it. It was great to finally watch this show. The actors were perfectly cast and the first season is genuinely funny. The writing for this show was much better than current shows. Highly recommended for fans of the show (and other '80s and '90s shows) and for new fans like myself! Enjoy!
This release features the complete first season of the smash hit E! drama The Royals. Follow the exploits of the fictional Queen Helena (Elizabeth Hurley) and her dysfunctional royal family as they deal with the pressures of being under the microscope of the public eye in England and navigate their tumultuous lives of sex, deception, and power.
This show can get ridiculous, but it's actually pretty well written and the cast is great! It's very funny, dramatic, and actually quite serious (certain major plot points) all at once. I love this show and am looking forward to the second season! Highly recommended.
Despite a great deal of critical praise and an Oscar for star Hilary Swank, Boys Don't Cry did not perform well at the box office, grossing only $20 million worldwide. Perhaps as a result, the DVD release was given run-of-the-mill treatment. The disc does contain extras, although there's nothing here aside from the film itself that would be of particular interest to collectors. Most important is the director's commentary track, which is easily the high point of the extras package. Director Kimberly Peirce is very direct and to the point, talking at length not only about her filmmaking methods and techniques but also about the film's main character, Teena Brandon. The remaining extras are trailers (teaser, theatrical, and three TV spots) and the standard five-minute featurette, which contains very brief comments from Peirce and various cast members. The technical quality of the disc works in its favor and helps relieve the mediocrity of the extras; there is a nicely balanced 5.1 digital soundtrack that, while never really kicking into overdrive (it's not that kind of film), does manage to make good use of the rear channels on occasion. Also present is a Dolby Surround Sound track for those without digital capability. The film's visual transfer is also more than satisfactory, featuring even flesh tones, crisp lines, and deep black; there is no noise or graininess, and the DVD has been anamorphically enhanced at 1.85:1.
This is an excellent film. It's well directed, extremely well acted, and well paced. Hilary Swank certainly deserved her Academy award for her outstanding performance. The entire cast is outstanding- everyone is so realistic. The story is so disturbing and unfortunately still relevant to the present. It's so heartbreaking and so upsetting that the events in this film actually occurred! The only complaint that I have is that one of the real life victims was left out of the movie entirely. I think some reference should have been made of him at the end of the film at least. In any case, though, this is a very important movie. Adults need to be aware that there is graphic material in this movie- so it's for 16 or 17 year olds and up. Highly recommended film.
I absolutely love the song "What I Like About You" by Five Seconds of Summer. I didn't know that it was a redo of an older song. It's great! The other songs, although they are live recordings, are well sung by the boys. Fun album!
This is a good movie. The story is very interesting and kept me watching. This movie has made me interested in reading the book series. Overall, the acting is pretty good. Hailee Steinfeld is really good in her role, even though it's not the biggest role. Surprisingly, Asa Butterfield was a little wooden in certain parts of the movie, but I still like him in the role. I got the blu-ray/ DVD combo for an amazing price during the Black Friday sale. Great deal. Recommended.
Okay, well, there's one thing that I must say about this series - it's so much fun to watch!! It's not historically accurate, and I have no idea why Mary, Queen of Scots and her ladies are wearing contemporary dresses in a lot of the scenes. And who knew that Prince Francis of France was the epitome of sexy and that he was the original Justin Bieber (pre-2013 Bieber, that is)?- "Don't forget Father, she's not only a queen, but a girl" - absolutely hilarious! Anyway, the acting is really good - the cast deliver ridiculous lines so well (Megan Follows is great!) I have to say that I want to know what happens in each episode, so it's not that bad a show. You just have to go in knowing that it's a tween/teen WB show, but adults can enjoy it too. This show has actually made me very interested in the real Mary, Queen of Scots and the other characters who are based on real people. Fascinating time period in that area of Europe. Recommended.
Well, this isn't the best sequel. The main storyline concerning Smurfett is kind of predictable. However, the movie is hilarious. New and old cast members are great! I think that Hank Azaria should be nominated for an Academy award for his fantastic performance as Gargamel. The man was born to play Gargamel. Brendan Gleeson is really funny as Neil Patrick Harris' stepfather. Christina Ricci was good too as the voice of Vexy. I think that Jayma Mays had a reduced role in the sequel than she did in the first movie. In any case, this is a great family movie and I absolutely loved it despite its faults. Viewers of all ages will enjoy this movie. Highly recommended.
This movie came out when I was 12 and I enjoyed it enough then. However, this is definitely not one of Disney's best movies. I still love Phil Collins' songs in the movie and of course, his award winning "You'll Be in My Heart" during the credits. The voices are pretty good. It's a good family movie and sends a great message about acceptance and family.
This movie is funny. The plot is very unique. It's about Dracula's (Adam Sandlers) daughter (voiced by a really good Selena Gomez) wanting to explore the non-monsters world. She meets up with a millennial guy, (voiced by a very funny Andy Samberg), who might provide her with some help in exploring the human, non-monster world. It's funny for kids and adults. There are a good number of jokes that can be interpreted differently for adults, though, but it should just past right by kids' heads. Great, unique movie for Halloween (or any time of the year). I got the blu-ray when it was on an amazing $9.99 sale! Highly recommended.
The students of Monster High find themselves in a bind after being shipwrecked on a mysterious island during what was supposed to be a relaxing Spring Break. While there, they discover a strange beast that is as much in need of rescue as they are.
This show is still great, with good story lines, exciting actions, and great characters. This show, surprisingly, never disappoints! Hope this series is able to keep up the good work for a few more seasons. Highly recommended.
