Nice little CD. I didn't know what to expect from Mr. Joyner because I was unfamiliar with his work. But I was pleasantly surprised. Nothing super-exceptional. Just nice solid music. Especially his version of JTs Can't Stop the Feeling. Good stuff.
Ok. First of all, I've never heard a bad Ledisi cd and this one keeps her streak alive. I will say that this one didn't bowl me over immediately like most of her outings. It kind of had to grow on me a little, but the more I listened the more I loved. No fan should be disappointed by this one. Worth noting, a fantastic duet with John Legend. An unexpected but completely satisfying pairing.
Dee Dee Bridgewater knows how to great music and that's even more enhanced when she has a album load of Memphis classics to work with. Particularly surprising and fun are her versions of Don't be Cruel and Hound Dog. Also included a great tribute to B. B. King on her version of The Thrill is Gone. Classics like I Can't Get Next to You, Try a Little Tenderness and I Can't Stand the Rain are also included. Great cd.
Fantastic cd. Always liked Sheila E but this album exceeded all my expectations. Incredibly funky in spots and beautiful in others--and all of it inspirational. And great guests like George Clinton, Bootsy Collins, Ringo Starr and Candy Dulfer make it even better. In this day and age, this cd reminds us what this country really stands for in a funky way. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND it!!!
Najee, along with Anita, Luther and Kenny, was one of the big staples of the radio smooth jazz formats like CD101 in New York. He's extremely talented and this album is fine. He's been missing recently and this is a nice return. Only nit to pick, it's a little too fast. It kind of glides by nice and smooth but it's kinda over before you really get a chance for it to grab you. I like a few more chances but if you a fan you will NOT be disappointed.
Nine effort by Stokley. A lot of nice jams and his voice is as solid as always. Not as strong as some of Mint Condition's best, but solid and smooth. As one of the few bands still going, hopefully he hasn't left Mint for good, but this is a nice, solid effort
Ok. If you love great music buy this album. I would give it 7 stars if I could. The pairing of Santana and the Isleys works perfectly. Classic songs sung and performed by classic artists with a message in the music. Ron's voice is still in great shape and the sounds of Carlos and Ernie's guitars are incredible. This the second part of an ep trilogy. The first was great but Wind was below par. The first track Claire where he seeks his own Claire Huxable is just not up to par with most Eric Roberson and the rest, while intentionally more breezy and ethereal, (this album is named Wind) is also pretty unremarkable. Add that it's an 8 song ep and there's just not enough there there.
