Very promising debut from a new group. Good funk-gospel-ish R&B sound. No bad songs with strong lead vocals. Suffers some from being an ep so by the time it’s reall starting to cook—it’s over.
The first two albums in Eric Roberson’s trilogy of EPs I gave 5 stars. This one however deserves 7. Great sound and this one is the one of social consciousness. Starting with the fantastic Slave Owners to the last great cuts Love is all that Matters and Leave the Door Open this album is one of the best ever by an extremely talented artist. Get this one.

Classic Funkadelic songs reworked. I have to admit that I’m not too hip on who the producers are, but the remixes are funky and fun and breathe new life into the classic cuts.
Pretty good debut. SZA has a good voice and some interesting material. I had heard a lot about this album and saw her on SNL and decided to give it a try. I have to admit I thought it was pretty good but a bit of a letdown after all the hype.
First of all, it’s great just to hear the original Purple Rain album in its entirety again. Of course I’ve heard all the songs individually many many times throughout the years but it’s good to hear it as it was supposed to be collected again. The second disc of unreleased cuts is also exceptional. In addition to a reworked version of Computer Blue, you can hear bits and pieces in some of the numbers that he used later in other songs. Fathers Song is the beautiful piano riff he used in the movie and it was co-written by his real father. There are 3 really funky tracks that I can’t name in this review but they showcase him at his Darling Nikki/Sexy M F best. If you are a Prince completist or someone looking to experience his greatness for the first time. This should be a must have for you.
Nice album by Fantasia. She doesn’t break any new ground here but it’s a Christmas album. Everything is solid, fun at times and hits all the right targets. Worth the price.
I bought this after his untimely passing and it does not disappoint. 13 songs in the incredible Al Jarreau style including an appearance by Take Six. Hard to imagine a better Christmas pairing.
It's amazing that Mavis Staples has been sounding this great for more than 50 years. From her days with the Staples Singers to today she never disappoints. Classic voice, great material, fantastic album. Only nit to pick: it's just too short. You have the feeling she's just warming up by the time it ends.
