surprisingly good sounding, great for running
on April 23, 2018
Posted by: bd43274
from Glendale, AZ
the good:
- really nice sounding pair of in ears. a bit of a V shape to the sound spectrum, but not overbalanced in any one area. big full sound, plenty of volume.
- good battery life at 11 hours.
- comfort / fit - i wear these as my daily drivers, no discomfort after all day use. nice stable fit without being too tight. great for being active
- call quality - no complaints from anyone i’ve spoken to, whether connected to the phone or to my laptop.
- LED - wrap around LED light on the back of the neck band for running when it’s dark out.
- easy to find and use controls.
the bad:
- only connect to one device simultaneously. the ability to connect to a second (e.g. phone and laptop) is becoming relatively commonplace in this price range. not a deal breaker, but really convenient to have.
- maybe a bit nit picky, but a carrying case is not included, though admittedly i’m not sure what kind of a case would work for this style with the neckband. if you travel and need to just throw them in your bag, may or may not travel well.
overall:
- solid performing, definitely recommended. giving 5 stars on comfort and sound quality alone. more accurate would probably be 4.5 stars for the inability to connect to 2 devices at once.

The only purifying fan to clean a whole room properly*. We design our purifying fans to go beyond test chamber conditions and focus on real home conditions – this is more than just having an efficient filter.*Dyson engineers and research concluded that to clean an entire room properly, you need to sense pollution events automatically; capture ultrafine pollutants; and project cleaner air around the room using Air Multiplier technology. Only the Dyson purifying fan is designed and tested to do all of this.**Dyson technology helps create a cleaner, healthier home - Our vacuums and purifiers are scientifically proven to capture particles as small as allergens and bacteria.

well thought out and designed air purifier / fan
on April 21, 2018
Posted by: bd43274
from Glendale, AZ
the good
it really depends on what you’re looking for in a fan. yes, dysons tend to be expensive. but you get what you pay for in this case.
- fan / air purifier - fan can blow forward for cooling, or to the rear for just filtering air. granular fan controls, from 1 to 10. 10 is quite powerful and moves a ton of air.
- sensors and output display for air quality, shown in real time.
- Dyson link app - for reporting and tracking of air quality
- oscillation up to 350 degrees
- remote control
- HEPA filter
- night mode - dims the display and limits the fan to quieter speeds
- design - bladeless, attractive design in my opinion.
- alexa integration, for voice control
the bad
- really none. the price might be considered a bit of a negative.
overall
well designed and strong performing fan / purifier. good feature set and integration into the modern smart home.

solid gaming keyboard

the good
-cherry mx switches feel very smooth and accurate mechanical feel when typing.
-spill resistant - always a nice feature, especially when you spend a bit more on a keyboard.
-lighting - excellent colors and patterns. match your rig as a solid color or display a rainbow of colors. preset as well as configurable.
-design - rather beefy, solid looking design. complements my alienware rig quite nicely
the bad
-really nothing. the price might be a little bit on the high side at $99
overall
really solid gaming keyboard that looks and feels great. 5 stars

great gaming machine, especially in today’s bloate
on April 8, 2018
Posted by: bd43274
from Glendale, AZ
the good:
cpu - intel 8th generation i7. geekbench scores were outstanding. single core score wass 5155, multi core was 22289. in my testing, that was about 27% higher than the 7th generation i7 for multicore (obviously there are more cores, so those numbers make sense).
case design - this of course is completely subjective, depending on personal taste. in my opinion, the case looks pretty slick, but it’s also well designed. relatively compact for a tower, i love the lights on the side panel. the power button is also the alienware logo, and lights up as well. all 3 of these “zones” - left panel, right panel, and alien power button, are independently configurable for light color and task. completely useless in terms of function, but very cool none the less. incidently, the alienware windows color theme that is active by default looks pretty sweet as well. completely different than a traditional windows 10 look.
quiet - even playing witcher for extended periods of time, everything stayed relatively quiet.
graphics card - with the market being completely out of whack because of the bitcoin nonsense, gfx cards prices are astronomical at the moment. PC manufacturers have been relatively expempt to this point, so a pre-build gaming machine is a very good way to go currently.
gsync - if you’re not familiar with this, definitely have a look. the frame rates of the gfx card and the monitor sync, which prevents screen tearing. very cool - but in order to use, you’ll need a monitor that has this feature too.
liquid cooling - 1 radiator, but still quite effective at cooling. very quiet as well.
ports - tons of USB ports for connectivity
VR ready
stability - so far, zero stability issues in long gaming sessions
the bad:
included keyboard and mouse are relatively flimsy. i would assume (and dell probably does as well) that these peripherals are essentially throw away…the vast majority of users will have their own gaming keyboard and mouse
misc:
because the tower is so compact, not much internal expansion room. the included 1070 graphics card is of course giant, and just barely fits.
optical drive - again, this may be considered somewhat of a useless item now a days. probably not a big deal to most users.
overall:
in my opinion this is a great machine. highly recommended, especially considering how expensive graphics cards are at the moment. easily 5 stars.

Big machine suction power*. But with cord-free versatility. The Dyson Cyclone V10 Absolute cord-free vacuum has a 40% bigger bin than the previous V8 Absolute and up to 40 minutes of fade-free power with the Soft roller cleaner head (in Suction mode I). The new torque drive cleaner head removes more dust from carpets. The soft roller cleaner head removes fine dust and large debris from hard floors. The Dyson Cyclone V10 Absolute cord-free vacuum quickly transforms to a handheld for quick cleanups, spot cleaning and cleaning difficult places.*Suction tested to ASTM F558 at the flexible inlet.BR>

very powerful, pricey
on March 1, 2018
Posted by: bd43274
from Glendale, AZ
the good:
-tons of power and suction. i would probably consider this a cross between a “pure” stick vacuum and a larger full sized vacuum. also has 3 settings for power, low, medium, and high. on high, you can just about pull the carpet up - it can actually be difficult to move across the floor depending on the surface.
-attachments included for just about every surface and situation. they’ve even included a “delicate” floor brush, for surfaces that might be prone to scratching.
-60 minute rated battery. i’ve not tested this for a full hour yet, but it’s a definite improvement over earlier models.
the bad:
-weight - my only real complaint with this vacuum is that because it’s got a bigger battery, stronger motor, etc, that it’s also heavier than other comparable models. depending on how you use it and who’s doing the vacuuming, you may find that your forearms get tired after a bit.
-price. at $700, we’re well above the “pricey” range. while maybe not quite as powerful as this, certainly much cheaper options are available (even within the Dyson product line) which might be better options.
overall:
certainly the most powerful in its class, and very polished and well designed. depending on your needs this could be the perfect vacuum for you, or you might find that its price is a bit too steep. the price and the weight keep me from giving it a full 5 stars personally, but it is still a very good vacuum in my opinion.

great sound, deceptively small
on February 15, 2018
Posted by: bd43274
from Glendale, AZ
the good:
-size/fit - tiny form factor, very light sitting in the ear. other than slight pressure inside my ear where they make contact, easy to forget that they’re actually in.
-design - stylish design
-music quality - actually pretty impressed with the quality of sound these little guys put out, and no issues with volume either. punchy, tight, with crisp highs without being overly fatiguing over longer listening sessions. decent bass extension as well.
-app - decent app with some nice controls - ambient noise passthrough with level control, EQ, and your own voice adjustment level during call. pretty slick.
-comfort - though i tend to have issues with in ears fitting comfortably, i find these to be relatively comfortable. what’s more, they are so light that they don’t move around after i put them in.
the bad:
-controls just a bit on the clumsy side. not necessarily the easiest to use. but then, fitting controls into such a small space can’t be easy.
misc:
-battery life - rated at 5 hours, with 2 full charges from the case itself. seems to be on par with other “wire free” ear buds.
overall:
highly recommended if for nothing more than the sound quality. i personally never expected jabra to compete with the other brands in this price range, but they’ve done an admirable job with these. i’d like to give them a 4.5 stars because of the controls, but unfortunately it’s either a 4 or a 5. i rounded up because they are so fun to listen to.

awesome (though fairly large) toaster oven
on December 19, 2017
Posted by: bd43274
from Glendale, AZ
the good
-while certainly not the size of a standard oven, still fairly large. if you're thinking small toaster oven, may want to pick something else. very deep as well. this certainly will not fit on a shallow countertop. that being said, tons of interior cooking space.
-seems well insulated, doesn’t leak a lot of heat outside (though the top surface does get pretty hot).
-attractive design, digital readouts so no confusion about temp or timer
-accessories included - non-stick baking pan and full size non-stick pizza pan included, as well as the rack. large capacity for cooking multiple items, really more like a small oven than a toaster over in my opinion.
-preprogrammed heating patterns for things like baking cookies and pizzas. i’ve yet to try these, but time will tell if they’re useful or just superfluous.
the bad
-some might see the size as a negative. definitely bigger than a normal toaster oven.
overall
really not much negative to say about this oven. very nice oven, especially considering the price. looks good, heats up quick and holds temperature well. 5 stars

great sound, bluetooth delay
on December 8, 2017
Posted by: bd43274
from Glendale, AZ
the good
-sound quality - one of the better sounding speakers of its kind that i've heard. keep in mind though, it’s not portable in the sense that you can unplug it and take it outside - there is no battery, so if it’s not plugged in it doesn’t play. that being said, if you’re playing music from Google Play, it actually plays the stream directly via wifi, and sounds fantastic. bluetooth streaming sounds great as well in my testing.
-design - attractive oval design, with a relatively large open sub port in the back (the giant JBL logo - i originally thought it was just a big plastic logo, but it’s the actual sub).
-google assistant - depending on what your needs are, google home may or may not be a feature you’ll use. if you do, it is pretty handy and works great here.
the bad
-not portable - as i mentioned earlier, this is really just a speaker that is easy to relocate, as long as you have power…it’s not “portable” in that you can unplug it and move it around temporarily with ease.
-bluetooth delay - i tried several different sources, and one was my Apple TV 4. there was a substantial delay, about a second or so, between onscreen and sound. from what i read, this can be fixed with a firmware update, but for now it’s all but unusable in that regard.
-priced a bit high - at a msrp of $250, it’s priced maybe $50 too high, with respect to others in this category. on sale (as it currently is now) for $200 it’s priced a little more appropriately.
overall
great sound, nice design, google assistant, but the lagging bluetooth is frustrating if using with a video source.

fantastic sounding, if a bit too clever
on December 7, 2017
Posted by: bd43274
from Glendale, AZ
sound - 5 stars.
easily the best sounding pair of noise cancelling headphones i’ve heard (compared to Bose QC 35 I and II, Sony 1000x I and II, Beats Studio, and JBL 750NC.) for me, these feel extremely balanced, punchy, and full of life. fantastic highs and mids, not overly heavy on the low end (though low end is still very much present). i get the impression that this is the way the producer intended for the music to be heard. these have become my daily driver for during work listening.
comfort - 4 stars.
not uncomfortable by any means, but not certainly not as comfortable as the Bose QC 35. on par with the Sonys.
noise cancelling - 4 stars.
again, pretty good noise cancelling, but Bose and Sony are just a bit better. i hear a little bit of high pitched hiss - very faint but definitely audible when no music is playing. to be fair, this is present on the other headphones as well. just an artifact of ANC i suspect. also adjustable by mobile app, which is a nice touch.
build quality - 5 stars.
materials and build feel premium and robust. the magnetic ear cushions are a nice touch - easily replaceable if desired.
design - 4 stars.
would be an easy 5 stars for me, except that the physical buttons on the right cup are so easy to hit accidentally, taking the headphones on and off, where you would generally grab them. insanely frustrating until you get used to it. otherwise, fairly distinctive, attractive, and good fitting cans.
battery life - 5 stars.
on par with the other heavyweights in this category, rated at about 22 hours (or 33 in wired). one nit pick here - no ability to play these in passive mode, without charge.
wear sensor - 3 stars.
this is the only major flaw with these headphones in my opinion. everything else “negative” is very minor, to the point where i wouldn’t even call those things negative. the supposedly intelligent sensing technology frustrated me to the point where i had to disable it. i won’t go into all the features, but the automatic nature of how they work still needs a lot of work to become practical.
portability - 3 stars.
no hard case included, though the included soft case is quite nice, it simply won’t protect these when you’re on the go. also, they don’t fold down, any more than just rotating the cups. both the Bose and Sony heaphones do, and they also both include a hard case, which is nice when traveling.
overall - 4 stars.
as much as the sound quality deserves 5 stars and more, i personally have to deduct a star for the buggy software and design flaw in button placement. that being said, if sound quality is your number one qualifier in this category, there’s no comparison. these sound amazing.

expensive but wow
on November 22, 2017
Posted by: bd43274
from Glendale, AZ
the good
- as mr. darth sidious himself would say…”unlimited powerrrrrr!!!”. seriously…this thing feels like you could mix concrete with it. i’ve been using a vitamix for awhile, as i do like my frosty mixed beverages, and it does just fine. this blendtec is on a whole new level. the individual programs are especially nice - you can of course just blend manually, but what are we, cavemen? i push the appropriate icon on the touchscreen, and it does this 35 second program to perfectly crush the ice - medium, then fast, then back to medium, all on its own. no little “ice rocks” left over afterwards…perfectly smooth, bar-like consistency.
-volume (sound) - maybe 20% quieter than other blenders i’ve used. certainly not quiet, but a definite improvement.
-volume (capacity) - big pitcher for lots of previously mentioned frosty beverages.
-stability - i’ve seen other higher powered blenders rotate a bit on the counter if they’re on a slicker surface. this one stays put.
the bad
-price - this will eliminate it from contention for quiet a few i’m sure. only time will tell if the cost is justified.
overall
-definitely a bit on the pricey side, all in all a very good blender. the programs make it super convenient to start blending your drink and multitask while it does its thing. all in all, very happy with this blender. hope it lasts long enough to justify its price point.
