Air fryer or hair dryer? About the same wattage.

I could hardly wait to try this out because I wanted to make fried zucchini circles like you get in some restaurants. Unfortunately, my first couple of attempts haven't worked out very well. However, I think if you know what you're doing (or eventually figure out what you're doing) this might be a useful appliance. There does seem to be a learning curve, though, so set your expectations accordingly.
The air fryer seems to be solid and well-built, though the usable basket size is fairly small. I found the paper instructions to be somewhat confusing, but once you install the companion app there are some useful pictures and directions in the Tips & Tricks section. There's also a video that shows various foods being cooked. It also contains 221 recipes (as of this app version), but I found many of them to be a little peculiar. The 12 recipes suggested to "get you started" include brownies, chestnuts, a chocolate banana, croutons, and crispy potato skin wedges (the last one finally seemed like something I'd want to try).
There was no recipe included for zucchini circles (in fact, searching for zucchini turned up 0 recipes) so I went to my old friend Google. After slicing and battering the zucchini I found that only half of it would fit on a single layer in the basket. (The $20 add-on rack would, I guess, double space for things like this.) After about 15 minutes of air frying the zuchini was done and it tasted fine. About 20 seconds later they were all gone and it was time to cool and clean the basket to fry the other half. The breading stuck in the wires and had to be soaked and brushed out which wasn't too much work, but still, it took some time.
I plan to try some other things like potato fries or even zucchini fries (things that aren't breaded) to see if that works better. You can apparently put more in the basket at once that way. People seem to have success with chicken, so I'll try that as well.
I know air fryers are crazy popular now, but I can't help wondering if they aren't just the latest appliance fad that may end up taking counter space and not being used as much as people hoped. If someone asked, I'd still recommend this as a good air fryer but would also warn it's not as simple and effortless to use as you might think.

Nice idea, but...
on July 17, 2017

My wife doesn't like to wear headphones or stick earphones into her ears, so I thought this might be a good option for her to use when she wants headphone functionality without having to put anything on her ears. She may use them occasionally, but unfortunately they don't work as well as I'd hoped.
The external speaker sound quality is just "ok" but not great. They can also still be heard by and annoy people around the listener (like me). The sound does sort of feel like it surrounds your head, but I guess you'd expect that from speakers hanging around your neck.
The two other negatives for me with these headphones are the delicate, retractable earphone wires and the fact that it's a bit pricey for what you get. The sound quality through the earphones is fine and the fact they are retractable is nice, but I worry about how long the wires will survive with use.
On the plus side, I could see using these headphones during football season while I'm active doing yard work or something. It's nice you can hear the audio, but also still hear what's going on around you. This might also be a good feature for someone riding a bicycle, too, where you still need to hear traffic around you for safety. If you're around others at home or in the office, though, you'll likely want to use the earphones. And if that's your primary use, then I think you'd do well to invest in a better set of dedicated earphones.

Wifi AND smart hub controller
on July 11, 2017

I think the new WiFi mesh (or "whole-home" WiFi) systems are the best way to go now days. You can stretch coverage to corners of your house that just isn't possible with a single WiFi-enabled router. If you've been looking at upgrading to one of these systems and are also interested in getting a "smart home" hub to start controlling light bulbs, switches, etc. then this might be a good option. If you already have a smart hub/controller and are just looking for a mesh WiFi system, there are probably better options available.
The Connect Home was fairly easy to set up out of the box. Using a phone app is apparently the only method available for setup (no web interface), but it worked well enough. Adding the additional Connect devices to the mesh was a bit of a guessing game as they were either in range and connected, or they didn't. I wasn't able to find an indication of the signal strength after they connected to know if it was solid or not.
You can easily add guest WiFi access, but beyond that the settings in the app are very sparse. If you don't want or need to bother with a lot of network settings, then you might like the simplicity of this setup. If you're a power user that likes to adjust a lot of settings then you won't be impressed. I did like the screen that displays a real-time graph of the traffic going through the Connect (picture attached). There doesn't seem to be any history or collection of total bytes transferred, but you can see if something is currently filling up your Internet connection or not.
You can also see how many devices are connected via wireless and then tap on that to get a list of each device. (Picture attached) Also at this screen you can add a port forwarding configuration if you need it, give the device high bandwidth priority, or restrict times that it can access the network. I did not see a way to configure a static IP or MAC-assigned DHCP address, which could be a problem if you have a NAS or some streaming server like I do that needs to keep an assigned IP address.
I was happy to see it had two network modes: Standalone or Bridge. Putting it in bridge mode just to use as a mesh WiFi system and smart hub controller might be the best option for power users. In this mode, you can keep your existing router with all the port forwards, etc. but take advantage of the greater wireless coverage and smart hub.
The Connect Home is definitely worth a look if you're in the market for a new WiFi system. You'll just want to compare features and see if this does everything that you need.

Easy setup and impressive sound
on July 4, 2017

This is quite an impressive soundbar and subwoofer combination, and it should be since it appears to be Sony's top-of-the-line soundbar. It's probably overkill for our TV setup in the bedroom, but it does sound fantastic. It's also very nice for streaming music via our Echo Dot, although Alexa sounds like the voice of God when projected through these high-power speakers.
It was super easy to set up and get connected to my TV (once I cleared off enough desk space for it underneath). My TV is old enough that it doesn't support HDMI ARC, or passing audio back down to the soundbar via the HDMI cable. It does have the digital optical output, though, so I've ordered a $6 cable and should be able to listen to over-the-air TV with sound through the bar when that comes.
The whole system weighs about 60 lbs and a good portion of that is the subwoofer. When I unboxed it, my first thought was it was a late 1980s PC--about the same size and weight. Since it's a wireless connection to the soundbar, though, it was extremely easy to tuck into an out-of-the-way space (but near a power outlet) and get it working. Literally, I only had to plug it in, power it on, and it was working with the soundbar.
You can stream music via bluetooth to it easily by default, but I like the feature that you can change bluetooth modes and have the output sent to headphones if others don't want to listen to your program. It was a little bit of trouble to go into settings to change the mode, but once done it worked perfectly. You just have to remember to change it back when you're done so you can stream later.
I'm not an audiophile, but to me the sound quality is superb. I did have to adjust the voice mode up to its highest (#2) setting before voice on TV and movies sounded the clearest. (I noticed in the Sony manual it says this setting "may be easy to hear for the elderly" which I didn't appreciate, Sony.) I also like the fact you can adjust the subwoofer volume separately. Some movies tend to go a little overboard on the bass sounds, so it's nice to be able to tone it down a little. The built-in Chromecast function is also a nice feature.
Overall, I'm happy with the system and I can't wait to try it out during football season.

Great for the price
on July 2, 2017

These are great bluetooth earphones for the price. The only feature they don't have that I miss is noise cancellation. So, they may not be the best for using on flights, but I think they'll be great for wearing during workouts.
They have the IPX5 rating so they resist sweat and can be rinsed off after a workout. Best of all, once I got the right size gel ear pieces installed, they fit snugly in my ear and stayed there no matter how much I moved around. Staying in place during exercise always seems to be a problem with any slightly bulkier earphones I've tried to use.
Making phone calls with them worked okay. The sound through the earphones was fine, although people say I sound a little "tinny" on their end. Also, any movement that causes the wire to brush against you causes unpleasant noise on the other end.
It was a little tricky figuring out how to fit them properly at first. Eventually I found it works best to rotate them into place and then put the clip over the ear. As far as fitting in your ear, these should have a pretty good chance of fitting anyone. I've never had a pair of earphones that came with 8 different tip sizes before.
They also come with a fairly nice, very compact case that also has room for the USB charging cable. Speaking of charging, they are advertised to have a battery that lasts 12 hours. I've not tested that yet, but given their small size 12 hours would be very impressive.
Overall, I'm happy with these earphones and think they'll be great for use while exercising or doing yard work.

Old school and cool
on May 26, 2017
Posted by: FlyingC
from Stillwater, OK
When I first took these out of the box, my wife said “oh, those look cool!” I had to admit they do look pretty cool--maybe like something a radio operator in the 1940s would be wearing. When I put them on, however, and cranked up Pink Floyd there was nothing 1940s about them. The sound quality is noticeably better than any other top-of-the-line headphone that I’ve used.

The literature in the box said they use “the most durable, luxury materials to ensure decades of use” and this doesn’t seem like the usual marketing exaggeration. They really are solid, simple, and feel like they’ll last forever. Even so, I wish they had come with a little better case instead of a bag. I’d feel a little uneasy throwing these in my backpack to rattle around with everything else, just because they’re so nice.

These are wired headphones (no bluetooth) but the audio cable does have a microphone and controls. With my Samsung Note 5 the play/pause control works, but for some reason the volume up/down doesn’t. I do like that there’s an audio jack in each headphone so you can use whichever is convenient. The spare one can also be used to connect to another pair of headphones if you want to share with someone.

One slight mark against them is I found the over-ear design to be a little uncomfortable on my ears. They do fit snug which is good so they don’t slide around, but after 30 minutes my ears got a little sore. However, my wife thought they were the most comfortable pair of headphones she had ever put on. She’s got a pretty small head and ears, so that probably makes the difference. Considering how cool she thinks they look and how comfortable they are on her, I think I’ve lost this pair of headphones. But at least they have that extra audio port so she can share music with the pair I’m going to have to buy.

Quality headphones

I found these to be great over-the-ear headphones that are very comparable to the best headphones on the market. The only negative mark against them is they lack noise cancellation. But if you’re not going to be using them in a noisy environment that won’t be an issue.

They fit snugly, yet very comfortably, on my large-ish head. I could move around pretty vigorously (not dancing, I swear) and they stayed in place perfectly. The NFC feature to automatically link the bluetooth worked perfectly. I also found the volume and play/pause controls easy to find by touch. Overall, they’re great headphones that I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend to anyone.

A great trimmer
on May 5, 2017
Posted by: FlyingC
from Stillwater, OK
While there are a couple of things that could be better about this trimmer, I still really like it and would recommend it.
First, the things I like. It has a nice ergonomic shape that's easy to grip at all the different angles you need to use it. The dial to adjust the height guard is fantastic and makes it so easy to change. I also like the design of the hair guard which works better than the other 3 or 4 trimmers that I've tried over the years. Last, I like that there aren't a lot of parts to keep track off--just the trimmer, a cleaning brush, and a vial of oil for the blade.
Now for the couple of things I don't like. I wish it had a lithium ion battery instead of the NiMH one. I think this is what gives it the relatively short 30 minute run time and the extra long time it takes to fully charge it. The other thing I didn't like is the charger doesn't indicate with the light when it's fully charged. Since I use it maybe once per week, I don't want to leave it on the charger all the time and taking up wall plug real estate.
However, even with those cons this is still the best trimmer I've used so far. I still need another trimmer with the attachments for ear/nose hair, but for trimming everything else this is by far the best.

It's kind of amazing
on May 5, 2017

Before now, I had never spent more than $15 for a hair dryer. It would be hard to quantify whether a Panasonic Nanoe hair dryer is worth paying eight times more than that. However, I will say it is the best hair dryer my wife and I have ever used.
The Panasonic Nanoe is a little heavier than an inexpensive hair dryer is, but it is balanced and easy to grip. It has a heavy, longer-than-typical, nine-foot cord, which I noticed because we have had problems with cords going bad on discount store models. My wife has long straight hair, so she was impressed by the double screen on the back of the dryer, which prevents long hair from being sucked in and tangled in the motor. The Nanoe is also slightly less noisy than other hair dryers we have owned, and it has multiple speeds and temperatures.
I don’t know if Nanoe is pronounced “nanno”or “nanoo” (like “canoe”) or how this feature works, but it sure seems to! My wife said that her hair felt noticeably softer and had less static electricity than when using an inexpensive hair dryer.
Overall, this seems like a great product and we’re quite happy with it! Our previous hair dryer has been demoted to the guest bathroom.

Can it be used in regular floors?

Not sure what regular floors are, but maybe hardwood flooring? This works well on that--it has good suction and the wheels are large enough and slightly cushioned so they roll smoothly and quietly on the hardwood. Also works great on carpets and throw rugs. On some of the smaller rugs I reduce the suction a little (thicker carpet setting) to keep from pulling them up.

Fragrances including Fabreez are filled with chemical compounds that are highly allergenic. Is it possible to get Bissell off the shelf without fragrances allergens in the filters? Defeats the purpose of buying this for allergy sufferers!

While other models came with the optional extra Febreze filter, this one just came out of the box with a regular filter with no scent.

Meet the Logitech Pebble i345. It takes your iPad to higher places with a level of precision and control you can’t get with a tablet alone. Use it to click, scroll, and control your workflow like never before. It’s small, portable, and comfortable—so you can keep exploring, wherever you go.

What difference is there between the Pebble M350, M355, and the most recent i345. As I understand the M350 is the first version, the M355 is the second version, both are compatible with various operating systems including IPadOS, and the i345 only iPadOS

Actually, the i345 is compatible with any device that has BLE (bluetooth low energy) and not just IOS things. I've used the i345 with a PC and also a Chromebook. As far as I can tell, the only difference between the i345 and the M350/M355 is that the i345 doesn't have the USB dongle to use on devices that don't have bluetooth.

Can the power brush be turned on and off?

Yes, one of the buttons on the handle turns the roller brush on/off. The other buttons are power and suction level/speed (high or low).

hmm.. NO PoE ? .. does this run on regular old school BnC connections ??? if soooooo..... i have old lorex 720p cameras on BnC right now ... wonder if i can just order cameras and swap out ??? thanks for the help for whoever answers these questions

Yes, it uses BNC connectors so your old cameras should work. However, if you try to use the older cable with the new 4K cameras you'll likely have a very degraded picture if it works at all. I tried it with mine and I could see part of the image, but the bottom half was messed up. When I ran the new cable that came with the 4K camera system, the picture worked perfectly.

Will Best Buy install the system and will it work with existing cameras?

Not sure if Best Buy will install, but you could certainly give them a call. As far as working with existing cameras, I was able to swap out my Swann DVR with this one and still use the old Swann cameras with it. As long as your cameras have a BNC-type connector, you should be okay.

Does this camera have tots of false positive motion alarms? Does it have thermal sensing for motion ?

I haven't noticed any false positives, though it IS very sensitive. So bugs flying near it (day or night) definitely trigger it to record. I think you can adjust the sensitivity, though I haven't played with it. You can also "blank" out areas of the camera view to ignore motion. For example, trees in view of one of my cameras move back and forth when it's windy and constantly trigger the motion. I was able to select the trees in the view and ignore motion there to solve that. I do not believe it uses thermal sensing for motion, but rather changes in the image it sees.
