Excellent Smartphone charger

Anker - PowerPort III 25W PD Fast Wall Charger for Samsung Galaxy & other Devices - Black
This device is aimed at smartphones old and new. The 25W fast charger will handle the maximum needs of any smartphone that has fast or super-fast charging requirements. It does this while providing protection to those devices (of whatever age) through USB Power Delivery PPS standards along with Qualcomm Quick Charge standards as well as Anker’s own PowerIQ3 technology that supports legacy charging standards of whatever brand. So, it won’t overcharge your device and won’t cause your devices to overheat.
The PowerPort III is a small charger with folding prongs to make it even more compact when storing. At this price point and 25W charging capacity, it only offers one USB-C port – more ports to quickly charge more devices require more power output. The charger does not come with a charging cable of any sort, so you’ll have to provide the charging cable with a USB-C plug at one end and whatever sort of plug your device requires at the other end.
As I mentioned earlier, this charger is designed for smartphones primarily. This is due to its output ceiling. While 25W is adequate for small tablets too, larger tablets and laptops require more output for fast charging. The PowerPort III will charge these larger devices – eventually. For charging phones at their preset maximum speed, the Anker PowerPort III 25W PD Fast Wall Charger is just the thing.
I personally have a Samsung Note phone, and the PowerPort III charges it at its maximum speed without a problem just as the regular Samsung charger does that came with the phone.
If you’re looking for a safe, compact charger for any cell phone new or old, this is a good choice!

Serious protection. Subtle styling. Built sustainably. WĀKE for Apple iPad (7th generation, 8th generation, and 9th generation) is a sea-change in case construction, using mostly ocean-based recycled plastic without sacrificing performance. Molded with a mellow wave pattern, the look is contemporary to the core. And after purchase, you get to donate a dollar to one of LifeProof’s water-conscious nonprofit partners — for free.

Attractive, protective cover for your iPad
on November 29, 2021
Posted by: Telstar
from Higbee, MO
LifeProof – WĀKE case for iPad is made primarily from waste plastic/vinyl materials recovered from the ocean. The case is attractive with a tactile wave pattern on the back of the case.
The power button and volume buttons are very clickable just as they would be without the case. All the openings for the iPad’s mic, sound out and cameras are perfectly aligned. The bottom of the case, where the speakers and lightning connector are located, has a long notch cutout so these items are clear of the case, but the cutout doesn’t extend to the corners, so you have the same protection at all four corners. There is no cover over the screen, but the case has raised edges that raise the screen when lying face-down on a desk or other flat surface.
The LifeProof WAKE case is very rigid – not rigid as hard plastic, but the material is quite hard. It will flex somewhat as you handle it before your iPad is installed, but the corners are quite rigid. I found that snapping the last corner over the iPad was something of a chore. I wrestled with it while exerting quite a bit of pressure with my fingers to get the last corner of the iPad to settle into the case. This is my only negative regarding this attractive, durable case. I would recommend to the manufacturer that they make the corners with a bit more give to them so that installing the case doesn’t require so much muscle. Frankly, I’m not sure how I would go about removing the case now that it’s installed. However, this is an attractive, durable case that should provide the protection you need for your iPad.

Good travel mirror
on October 20, 2021

Vanity Planet - LED Mini Travel Mirror - White
The travel mirror lid opens and rotates to allow the lid to be the adjustable stand for the mirror. It is lighted having 3 types of lights - bright, warm & cool - that you activate by the touch button in the lower part of the mirror. If you hold-touch the button the light type you're using will brighten or dim as you prefer. If you simply short-touch the button, it will go to the next light type. Finally, another short-touch will turn the lights off.
It comes with a type A USB cable so you may plug it into a computer or a 5V power supply you may have to charge the mirror, but it does not come with its own charger . The battery is built-in. We purposefully left the mirror lights on for over 4 hours straight and the battery was still providing power. I didn't leave the lights on until the charge expired, so I'm not sure how long it will power the lights if left on continually.
The outer surface is a lighter gray plastic, and it hasn't been used enough to know how well the exterior will clean up over time.
The mirror does not have a magnification feature.
The LED Travel Mirror is slim and easy to use and pack. Its approximate size is 5"x7.5"x0.5".
One proviso is that the mirror doesn't fold back on its base all the way. My wife, who wears glasses, found that, after setting the mirror on the table and moving the mirror to its farthest back angle on its base, she had to move back from the mirror too far (without her glasses) to see her face completely in the mirror. She ended up having to elevate the base on something to raise the mirror up to see her face closeup without stooping down in the process. If the mirror portion folded back further on its base, this would correct this issue.
One item that would be nice to be included with the travel mirror would be a simple open-end cloth sleeve where the mirror could slide into for additional protection when traveling.
All in all, for the money, this is a versatile and useful travel mirror.

The Beurer BM76 unit covers the basics - sort of
on October 5, 2021
Posted by: Telstar
from Higbee, MO
Beurer - Bluetooth Upper Arm Blood Pressure Monitor - White
This blood pressure monitor has a base unit about 5"x4"x2" and uses 4 AA batteries (supplied). The readout screen is approximately 3"x2.75". So, it's sizable enough to show the time, date, user number -- handles up to 4 different users for record keeping when used with its smartphone app that records readings -- and, of course, the systolic and diastolic readings. While the characters shown on the readout are large, they are from an LCD screen. This means there are 7 segments available to make up any number or letter by having some of the segments visible and others (depending on the number or letter being shown) invisible. Unfortunately, on this display, those that are invisible leave a "ghost" segment that you can see to some degree. This makes the readout of the characters not as sharp as some other LCD screens that leave an invisible segment truly invisible.
The instruction sheet (one page front only) is not adequate. It is broken down into Device Setup and HealthCoach App Setup. Below that is the "Keep In Mind" stuff where they remind you mainly about using the app with different users etc. I had to read the instructions several times while trying to do the device setup and the app setup to manage those items. I'm still working on the Bluetooth connection between the app on my phone and the blood pressure base unit. I've followed the instructions as given, entered the PIN provided by the base unit into the app, but have yet to connect via Bluetooth. Bluetooth by itself is finicky, so I'll keep trying. If you need regular blood pressure readings over time to determine an average for your doctor, you'll need the data from the base unit to be transferred to your app for each reading taken, so having the app and device connected by Bluetooth will be necessary.
Regarding use instructions, I used their QR code provided on the instruction sheet to take my phone's browser to a video tutorial provided by Beurer. The video is 45 seconds long and tries to cover device setup and app setup. It goes way too fast to read what the video is giving you even if you can manage to zoom onto the very small print on the video. Frankly, the video offers too little information too fast so as to be basically worthless. The instructions do not include how to position the cuff properly on your arm -- there's a "diagram" on the cuff itself that's supposed to help you position it properly -- nor do they specifically tell you how to start the device once the cuff is finally in place. It has an on/off button on the device, but I expected that to control the screen illumination so you could keep it on as long as you need to for reading the information available on the screen; however, the screen will dim and go out after a set time on its own. You have to hit the power button to start the blood pressure device going through the procedure to give you a blood pressure reading.
In addition to the above problems, the rubber tube connecting the upper arm cuff to the base device wasn't even 2' long. That may sound adequate in length until you wrestle your arm into the correct position with the cuff attached without dragging the base device off the table where it is setting. The rubber tube should be a minimum of 6" longer but 12" longer would be best to give you the room you need without having to worry about dragging the device around while maneuvering you arm into a proper resting position.
I've taken my blood pressure reading multiple times, and it appears to do that properly if the cuff is in the right position -- not only above the elbow a certain distance but with the cuff sensor aligned with the midpoint of the inside of your elbow or you will get error readings. These issues are probably common to all above arm cuff type monitors that you are using without assistance.
The bottom line is that I found the BM76 Blood Pressure Monitor lacking. The readout isn't as clear due to the selection of this LCD panel by Beurer, the instructions are too limited and should include the actual use of the device in taking blood pressure readings -- I think Beurer assumed users would already have a nodding acquaintance with DIY blood pressure monitors --, and the rubber tube connecting the device with the cuff is entirely too short.
While I haven't looked at other DIY blood pressure monitors, I have to believe that there are some that are more intuitive to use and made better, and are probably more expensive, but if I needed a device such as this, I'd be willing to pay more money for a better one.

Very nice robot vacuum with mopping ability
on April 15, 2021
Posted by: Telstar
from Higbee, MO
Ecovacs Deebot N8+ Robot Vacuum
This very nice robot vacuum comes with an Auto-Empty Station that doubles as a charging station. When the Ecovacs Deebot N8+ Robot Vacuum returns to its charging station, the Auto-Empty Station kicks in automatically moving the dirt and debris from the Ecovacs Deebot N8+ Robot Vacuum into the Auto-Empty Station, which uses a paper vacuum cleaner bag (like you’d find on typical canister or most upright vacuum cleaners) to hold the debris until it becomes full (it comes with one bag in the Auto-Empty Station and one replacement). Depending on your particular circumstances, the debris bag may not need replacing for a month or two. You simply take out the full bag and replace it with a new one. That’s the only time when the Ecovacs Deebot N8+ Robot Vacuum system is noisy – it’s not the robot vacuum but rather the Auto-Empty Station that’s noisy while emptying the robot. This lasts about 30 seconds. The Ecovacs Deebot N8+ Robot Vacuum on the other hand, runs quietly – you can hear it, but it runs more quietly than many robot vacuums I’ve used. The Auto-Empty Station will send you an alert through its app (see next paragraph about the app) when it’s full.
There is an app for your smartphone to download that allows you to control the Ecovacs Deebot N8+ Robot Vacuum while away from home. If you follow the directions when you first get the robot, it will map your entire home in the app. It will go about cleaning the different floor areas of your home to provide this information (the Ecovacs Deebot N8+ Robot Vacuum first scans the area to form a grid in its brain and that provides the mapping data for the app). The app designates different areas with letters of the alphabet: A, B, C, D etc. The letters appear on the map. If you want your Ecovacs Deebot N8+ Robot Vacuum to go to, say, area C, just tap the C on your map and it will leave the charging station and head to area C to do its work. When it’s done with area C, it will head back to the charging station. You can designate multiple areas at one time if you need several areas cleaned together. If the combined areas are larger than the Ecovacs Deebot N8+ Robot Vacuum can handle on one charge, it will go to the charging station, recharge, and then take off again automatically to complete the job you assigned it. When finished, it will return to the charging station (Auto-Empty Station). If there area places on your map that you want your robot to avoid (pet food stations etc.), just draw a line or box on the map with your finger and the Ecovacs Deebot N8+ Robot Vacuum will not cross those lines! You can even set your cleaning settings differently for different rooms or areas where some may require more cleaning than others. You can actually divide or merge cleaning areas on your map or even map by room only. It’s very flexible to allow you to set things as you want them. Of course, if you only have one room needing vacuuming and you don’t want to use the map, you can just set the robot in a closed room and hit the clean button; it will scan then clean that room. On the other hand, if you like using voice commands, you can do so over Alexa or Google Assistant. As with most robotic vacuums, you can schedule cleaning as well for days/times that suit you.
The Ecovacs Deebot N8+ Robot Vacuum will run using less power over hard surfaces, but when it detects carpet, it will provide more power for both movement and suction.
In watching our robot, it does a better job of scanning/navigation than others we’ve had. It moves precisely and consistently along its grid and often doesn’t bump into obstructions but navigates closely to them while going around them. It will bump into obstructions but much less than others and doesn’t bang into them when it does but will rather gently bump them, if at all. It edges as it navigates around obstructions or along walls. Frankly, it’s impressive to watch the Ecovacs Deebot N8+ Robot Vacuum work. After all is said and done, it does a great job vacuuming whether hard surfaces or carpets. So far, it hasn’t gotten stuck anywhere, and it has the power, when needed, to move over different elevations (thicker rugs on hard or carpeted surfaces). Also, Ecovacs offers the same robot in a Pro version that even avoids small objects or electrical cords on the floor.
The Ecovacs Deebot N8+ Robot Vacuum will run between one and two hours before needing recharging. It depends upon what type of surface(s) it is cleaning and how many obstructions it must navigate around. Reportedly, it will cover 2000+ SF on one 110 minute charge, but I haven’t proven that at this time.
I’ve left this to last: the robot will vacuum and mop at the same time. You add an included pad (one washable pad and 10 disposable pads provided) along with the included water reservoir to the robot and send it on its way as you would ordinarily. It will cover hard surfaces precisely as it does when vacuuming. On a scale of 1 to 10, I would give it a 7. It won’t scrub your hard surfaces of everything, but it will clean them enough to make them look good just before company shows up. It gets the debris (vacuuming) and much of the more stuck on “dirt” that hard surfaces typically show up. While it will leave a somewhat wet trail behind it, that dries in a short while (you can adjust the settings as to how wet you want the cleaning pad to be). I was surprised that I found very little if any streaking after the floor dried. While doing the mopping, it will automatically avoid carpeting.
Overall, I really like the Ecovacs Deebot N8+ Robot Vacuum. It scans and navigates very well, vacuums very well, and runs quietly while doing so. With the Auto-Empty Station as part of it, and emptying the robot after a cleaning session, is really nice. Mopping is more hands-on in that you have to attach/un-attach the mopping pad and reservoir then wash the cloth pad. Its mopping ability is good, but is not a substitute for getting your hard surfaces really clean. It provides a good light cleaning beyond just vacuuming, so it’s good with that understanding – of course, this is true with most other mopping robot vacuums as well. Finally, the Ecovacs Deebot N8+ Robot Vacuum is a good addition to most any household.

High end, high quality laptop!

Alienware - m15 R4 - 15.6" FHD Gaming laptop - Intel
Core i7 - 16GB Memory - Nvidia RTX3070 - 512GB Solid State Drive – Dark Side of the Moon
I’ve found the Alienware m15 R4 to be a beautiful and powerful laptop! Mine sets on the right side of my desk where I also have an external 25” 1080p HP gaming monitor in the center of my desk with a 32” 2560x1440 (QHD) Samsung monitor on the left side of my desk. This setup provides me with 3 screens to do my office work, so that’s a fair amount of screen real estate to display documents and application windows!
I have the HP gaming monitor hooked up through the HDMI port on the back of the Alienware m15 R4 and the Samsung monitor hooked up through the DP (DisplayPort) port on the back also. Both ports are powered by the Nvidia RTX3070 graphics card (GPU), which is in the upper tier of GPU’s and has 8GB of onboard RAM. The Alienware m15 R4 15.6” 1080p internal display runs at 300Hz max.
On the back of the laptop base, the Alienware m15 R4 offers the power port to charge the laptop (using the included 240W brick), a USB-C 3.1 Gen 2/Thunderbolt 3.0 port, the HDMI 2.1 port, the mini DisplayPort 1.4, and an Alienware Graphics Amplifier Port where you can plug in a separately purchased external Alienware Graphics Amplifier. This item will allow you to install any monster desktop GPU of choice in the Amplifier to increase your graphics capability to whatever level your wallet will tolerate! On the sides of the Alienware m15 R4, you’ll find one MicroMedia card reader, two USB-A 3.2 ports, one Killer RJ-45 Gigabit Ethernet port (Wi-Fi 6), lock slot, one USB-A 3.2 with PowerShare so you can charge your other devices from it or run other peripherals from it that require more power than the ordinary USB power trickle, and a 3.5 Headphone jack (7.1 digital out). You can run monitors and every other peripheral device just from the USB-C port alone if you use a USB dock/hub with it (recommend a high-speed USB-C type dock/hub or just a Thunderbolt dock/hub that has all the other port types built into the dock).
I’ve been playing Fallout 4 on Ultra settings and Horizon: Zero Dawn on all Ultra settings, and this little beauty has not hiccuped even once, while still powering all three (3) monitors and whatever I may have running on the other two (2) screens. Play is smooth and flawless. Framerates for F4 are well over 100 FPS on the 144Hz HP gaming monitor and are an average of 95 to 100 FPS on Horizon: Zero Dawn. I haven’t played anything just using the laptop screen, but I expect any game would run faster, but that’s just a guess at this point.
So, if you’re not a gamer, how does this equate for you? Well, it will run any intensive graphics activity (video/photo editing, CAD applications, Photoshop, VR, you name it). My office use doesn’t require these higher graphics capabilities, but my gaming does, so the Alienware m15 R4 is a beast for all these uses.
Keep in mind that gaming laptops are running impressive hardware and increased cooling capacity, so they weigh more than general laptops. The Alienware m15 R4 weighs in at 5.5 lbs., yet it sports a thin bezel IPS 1080p matte screen (I personally prefer a matte screen as they are less reflective than standard screens) with an HD webcam and dual microphones built in. The whole laptop is only 0.78” thick. Its design is very attractive without the boxy look to include the “Tron” light track around the back plate of the base and the lighted Alien head trademark on the lid. It has a magnesium case with a high-quality finish that does resist smudges and fingerprints. It has a very comfortable keyboard backlit with blue light, which is adjustable from no backlighting to two selections of brightness when on. Of course, you can change colors of the RGB lighting in the onboard software at any time. It has stereo speakers that are better than many other laptops I’ve been around.
The Alienware m15 R4 has a 10th generation Intel Core i7-10870H (45W), 8 core processor with 16 threads. It can handle up to 32GB of system RAM, but this model comes with 16GB (2933 megahertz). It also has a 512GB M.2 PCIe NVMe Solid State Drive (SSD) that offers excellent read/write speeds (Toshiba makes it). It provides three SSD slots that are user serviceable (two M.2 2280 SSD’s up to 2TB each and one M.2 2230 up to 512GB). You can also set up a RAID 0 or RAID 1 arrangement if you install a second SSD. I have another matching SSD on order to add it to the existing one and will set it up in a RAID 0 configuration. This means that my Alienware m15 R4 will read the two drives as though they were one drive. In my case, it will show a 1TB SSD, and my read/write speeds will nearly double the impressive read/write speed of the one SSD in my laptop now! The other slot can be filled with another, smaller SSD, but it will show as a separate drive, in case you simply want an additional 512GB for onboard storage. In addition to the aforementioned Nvidia RTX3070 GPU, it also has an integrated Intel UHD graphics chip on the motherboard. At this writing, I’m not sure when it runs the UHD as opposed to the RTX3070, and I’m also not sure whether it switches automatically or if it’s by a manual switch in the software someplace.
The Alienware m15 R4 will power up its cooling fans, particularly when gaming, but even then, mine doesn’t run non-stop as some do. It will occasionally spin up the fans when I’m not gaming depending on what I’m doing, but that isn’t very often or for very long. When the fans spin up, you can hear them, but I don’t find that distracting as some people do. Compared to some other gaming laptops, the m15 R4 is on the quieter side based upon my experience.
While I haven’t tested this, the m15 R4’s battery (non-gaming use) will reportedly run about 4 hours on just battery power. Yes, there are plenty of other laptops out there that will run double that or more, but not running the kind of hardware this one boasts.
Gamers, you can calibrate your games, game settings, hardware etc. for your specific games through the provided Alienware Command Center software as well as adjust color lighting, cooling profiles and many other options.
There are options for the m15 R4, such as 32GB RAM, Invidia RTX3080 GPU, 4K 60 Hz screen etc., but those are only available if you order yours from Dell/Alienware online. Of course, there is the m17 (17”) as well, if you need something bigger.
This is the first Alienware computer I’ve owned, and I am very impressed with the attractive appearance, build quality and performance. My experience so far has been one of an enhanced desktop experience and a flawless gaming experience. For me, the laptop configuration works much better than a tower desktop configuration since there’s nothing beneath my desk to kick when moving my legs, and the m15 R4 provides a 3rd screen, which is really nice, not to mention the portability if I want to take the m15 R4 with me.
If you want an upper end, high quality laptop where you can run most any Windows software and/or game to your heart’s content, the Alienware m15 R4 is calling to you.

Best robot vacuum we've ever owned.
on September 30, 2020

from Higbee, MO
The iRobot - Roomba® i3 (3150) Wi-Fi® Connected Robot Vacuum – Neutral is a very good robot vacuum!
We presently have three robot vacuums, and each is a different brand. One of those three is a larger, heavier unit that scans the room and follows those scanned lines in its little brain to travel back and forth in straight lines, only deviating for objects in its path. The other two do not scan but run helter-skelter all over the place eventually covering most, if not all, of the floor area where they’re operating.
Our fourth robot vacuum is the Roomba i3, and this is our first Roomba. When you set it in a room and press its Clean button, it scans (maps) the area very quickly (more quickly than our other scanning robot) and then starts off in straight lines to methodically cover the entire area. The first time we used it, I set it in our master bedroom, and I had the master bathroom doors open and the door open to our master closet. With our other scanning robot, I typically close all these doors because, if I don’t, it will go through the doors into the bathroom and closet and turn right around to go back into the bedroom not cleaning the other two areas. To get the bathroom and closet vacuumed, I have to set the other robot in each area separately with its door closed. So, I wanted to see what the i3 would do. While it was running in the bedroom, I checked it a couple of times, and it didn’t get stuck anywhere. It also easily traveled over an oriental rug lying on top of the carpet. Later, I went back to check on it, and it had vacuumed the carpets in the master bedroom, master bath and master closet completely! You could clearly see its little tracks where it had vacuumed all three areas completely! I think this is great because apparently the i3 just adds additional rooms to its map as it goes. I don’t know if it would act the same with more or larger rooms. Of course, if you want it to stay in one room or so, just close the doors to other areas.
You download an app for your smartphone so that the i3 and your app are connected. You can give it orders through the app when you’re not at home, say, if you want it to start cleaning, or you want it to stop and dock. In addition, it notifies you if its dust bin needs emptying or if it gets stuck or another problem occurs. That is handy if you’re in some other part of the home than where the i3 is operating. You can also control your i3 with your voice assistant, if you prefer. You can program the robot to clean according to a schedule as well instead of using the Clean button on the robot. By the way, the i3 talks to you instead of just giving you an error code as the others we have do.
It has additional sensors so that it gets stuck less often; it can sense, up to a point, certain places to avoid where it will likely get stuck. This isn’t perfect, but it’s better than our experience with our other three robots. It also senses where more dirt is present so that it will cover those places more intensely and less so if the dirt is less.
It has dual multi-surface rubber brushes (the rear one rotates to kick debris forward while the front one rotates to kick dirt backward) that channel dirt into the intake duct. Our experience is that it cleans deeply, more deeply than our other three, so that the carpet, in particular, is cleaner than our others are able to do. The rubber brushes do not get bound up in hair as bristle brush rollers will do. Also, these dual rubber brushes or rollers will move or flex to allow them to keep in contact as much as possible with the floor surface.
Finally, I know for a fact that the i3 runs more quietly and more quickly than our other scanning robot. As I said above, it actually cleans better as well. If it runs low on power before it’s finished its task, it will go back to the charging station, recharge, then automatically finish its task.
The i3 Roomba 3150 is a superior robot vacuum to the others we have in all ways. You will be very impressed with its performance and satisfied with its purchase.

Nice equipment limited by substandard installation
on May 7, 2020

The weBoost - Booster Kit - White/Gray/Black consists of the outdoor antenna, cables, the indoor transmitter, and the power supply/booster. It is sold as a package that includes professional installation. In fact, it is advertised as such and emphasizes the overall effectiveness and end-product satisfaction being enhanced due to professional installation. The installation is provided by OnTech, which is owned by Dish Satellite. When you open the weBoost box, there is a card on top of the contents that gives you contact information for OnTech to arrange installation.
Regarding the equipment, it appears in every way to be sturdy and able to act as advertised. The power supply/booster can be mounted in various locations so it can be hidden out of the way. The transmitter can be set on a horizontal surface or mounted on a wall. It has a light gray surface so that it won’t draw a lot of attention if you need to mount it on a wall.
I live in the country where the cell signal runs from zero to one or two bars depending on which way the wind’s blowing – I realize that isn’t a scientific statement, but it seems that way when you go looking in the house for a place where you can actually make a phone call or text. I have to say that the weBoost has increased our signal strength in, perhaps, half of our home. Ours has 4000 sf of living space, but the product claim is that it will handle up to 7000 sf. Well, that’s not the case in our home, but here is the rest of the story…
After contacting OnTech for installation I was promptly contacted by the installer for directions since even GPS gets tangled from time to time where we live. When I first contacted OnTech, I saw their calendar online, which showed available dates for installation. Sunday was open so I selected that day. The installer showed up Sunday morning. I want to emphasize that he was courteous, neat, and pleasant to work with. His truck showed Dish Satellite on the outside, and he explained that Dish owned OnTech and he did installations for Dish but had recently started doing installations for OnTech with weBoost hardware. I really had no complaints about the installer, but it became painfully obvious that he was not an experienced installer of weBoost equipment. To start with, I had a 6’ antenna mast in place on the peak of my roof that had no antenna on it. I told the installer I wanted the weBoost antenna mounted there since it would put the antenna at the highest place on my home – the nearest cell tower is probably 8 or 9 miles away. He said Dish would not allow their installers to get on roofs. I discussed this with him and suggested he call his supervisor to get clearance to do this with my permission. He said they wouldn’t approve it no matter who he talked to and that it was a hard and fast rule that they could not get on a customer’s roof nor mount anything on the roof. He ended up mounting the antenna onto the fascia of the peak of a gable bump-out on my house. The way the ground drops away on the rear of the house he had to get at least 20’ or more up his ladder to do this. To get on my roof from where his truck was parked would have taken 10’ up the ladder and from there to simply walk to the antenna mast on a 6/12 pitch roof along the ridge. He could have mounted the antenna while simply standing on my roof – the mast wasn’t tall enough to require a ladder. I would have had a better installation of the antenna and he would have had a safer and easier installation of the weBoost antenna.
Once the antenna was installed on the gable fascia, he used a mapping program on his smartphone to show the location of the nearest cell tower(s), and he then pointed the antenna in the general direction shown by his map. Frankly, since we’re talking about professional installation that is promised and part of this package, I expected him to use a field strength signal meter attached to the weBoost antenna to align it with the tower in the most precise way possible. That way would ensure the antenna was receiving the strongest signal possible for that mounting location. I asked the installer about this and he said they were not given field strength signal meters and they were expected to point the antenna in the direction of the tower shown on their phone’s mapping software. So, if the antenna on my home is receiving the strongest cell signal possible from the tower, it’s truly by accident. You can only boost the signal the antenna receives. In addition, there was a 3G tower and a 4G tower near each other. Since we don’t stream anything from home through the cell connection (we have WiFi for that), he recommended using the 3G signal since it was stronger than the 4G signal. I agreed, but at the same time I wondered how he could determine actual cell strength between the two without the proper equipment. Even if the 4G didn’t have as strong a signal as the 3G, wouldn’t the extra bandwidth of 4G figure into that equation?
There are several variables involved when setting up a cell booster in your home. The vertical distance from the outside antenna to the inside transmitter has certain requirements and restrictions. The length of cable between the two has certain requirements and restrictions. The direction the transmitter is pointing also has certain requirements relative to the outside antenna etc. In other words, the several variables must be all accounted for while at the same time finding the best location in the home for the transmitter to provide the widest signal coverage for your home.
Unfortunately, my installer had little, or no, experience installing weBoost equipment, or any other cell signal boosting equipment for that matter. He had no special equipment to help him achieve the best arrangement of the inside equipment for the best results, and I'm pretty certain he had no specialized training outside of satellite installations. This left trial and error with both of us discussing all these things while moving equipment around to try to achieve optimum signal and coverage. Experience counts for a lot when juggling multiple variables while trying to install cell signal boosting equipment for the best result. He spent a lot of hours at my place tirelessly working with me, but it was hopeless because neither of us had the real training, experience or specialized equipment to do the job in a professional manner – I’m not talking about running cable here or there or mounting things because my installer knew what he was doing in that area. He simply didn’t know what he was doing to get the optimum signal strength and coverage for my home.
So, is my cell phone signal better in my home after the installation of weBoost? Yes, maybe…it is in certain parts of the house and not at all in others. Do I have the best signal strength hitting my antenna from the tower and the best signal strength in my home? I seriously doubt it. Could my inside equipment (not to mention my outside antenna) be rearranged by an experienced installer of cell signal booster equipment to achieve a better result for my household? No doubt.
The following day I received a survey from OnTech about my installation experience. I outlined in that survey what I’ve written here in this review. Have I heard anything further from OnTech or anyone else more than a week later? No, I have not.
I had a good installer – for cable equipment, but not for cell signal boosting equipment. In addition, Dish’s rules about staying off roofs has given me a substandard opportunity for the best signal strength from the nearest tower because my installer couldn't put the outside antenna in the best location. Further, manual aiming of the antenna cannot guarantee the best signal strength even where they ended up mounting the antenna. The present arrangement of the inside equipment is based on guess and finally settling on where it finally ended up since we were both worn out fooling with it for several hours.
The bottom line is that weBoost has good equipment, but seriously professional installation is everything when it comes to getting the best signal strength and signal coverage for your home. In this expensive package, you’re paying for professional installation and you’re promised professional installation. In my case, I did not receive professional installation. I’m a little better off with weBoost than before, but not by much, and I’m convinced I could have a much better experience if I’d been given the professional installation promised.

Wonderful Pasta Maker!
on November 5, 2019

from Higbee, MO
Philips - Avance Collection Pasta and Noodle Maker - White/Silver is a great pasta maker! Now, I’m not a “noodle” guy, but my wife loves pasta – there are certain dishes I do like, but by and large, I’ll pass on most pasta. Just about all the pasta I’ve ever eaten has come from the local grocery store. Our first attempt at pasta with the Philips Pasta/Noodle Maker was using the included Philips recipe booklet, and we selected the one called Tomato pasta/noodles since it was quite simple. We made spaghetti, and it was the best spaghetti I’ve ever eaten. Later, we used the same meat sauce over “store bought” spaghetti noodles as an experiment, and that spaghetti didn’t have anywhere near the flavor of our first noodle batch made with the Philips Pasta Maker – I wouldn’t have believed it if I hadn’t experienced it!
So, prior to this experience I couldn’t imagine why anyone would want to buy a pasta machine and take the time to make their own pasta when you can buy all you the pasta you want from the store for little money and little time – it just didn’t make sense to me. Well, now I know why people make their own pasta.
To me, the Philips Pasta/Noodle Maker is a solid piece of equipment. It weighs around 20 pounds, so it doesn’t move around on you while in use. The simple User Manual shows step-by-step how to take it apart, clean it, and put it back together. Once you’ve done it, it’s dead simple to do. It cleans up easily too. Some parts can be washed in the dishwasher, and those remaining can be quickly cleaned in hot water or soapy hot water as you choose. It comes with a tool to cut the pasta as it’s being extruded from the machine, and it has 4 shaping discs for spaghetti, fettuccine, penne and lasagna – you can separately purchase additional shaping discs for other types/styles of pasta, if you like. The controls with a display are on the top front of the machine and are simple to operate.
You basically can use all-purpose flour, as we did, adding any liquid or egg called for by the recipe. The flour goes in the mixing chamber and liquids are poured into the recessed lid that has holes in it which “meters” the flow of liquid into the flour as the mixing paddle turns. Once it reaches a proper consistency, it will begin extruding the dough through the shaping disc you’ve chosen. You’ll need to either cook the pasta shortly after or dry it on a rack or even store it in the refrigerator if you want to wait before cooking it.
There is a KEY to getting the right dough consistency, so the extrusion process goes properly – the directions are a bit unclear when it comes to measurements etc. What we found, after experimentation, is to weigh the flour (or any other dry ingredients) precisely. It comes with a dry measuring cup, but it doesn’t actually hold a cup as one cup would show on a regular measuring cup you may have in your kitchen. Additionally, flour/dry ingredients can compress down (or not depending on how it’s handled), which will throw off the ratio of ingredients so that the dough will not extrude properly, and it may end up too dry or too sticky when it does extrude. The directions do tell you the exact grams of flour/dry ingredients to use making your dough, so weigh your flour (remember to deduct the weight of the cup) according to what it tells you, and things will go swimmingly!
The Philips Pasta/Noodle Maker is an excellent piece of equipment that will, after adding the ingredients, make wonderful pasta automatically. As a “non-noodle” guy, I’m truly impressed with the simplicity of the machine, its automatic performance, and the excellent taste of the pasta.

Excellent corded mouse for office or gaming

Logitech - G403 (Hero) Wired Optical Gaming Mouse - Black
I really like this corded gaming mouse, and for regular use or gaming, it’s very functional. Of course, it offers customizable RGB lighting and has 6 programmable buttons using the G HUB software you download. You simply choose from a list of functions and drag/drop it onto the mouse button you’ve selected on the mouse image next to the list – you’re done. The button behind the scroll wheel is to adjust your mouse speed on the fly, if you want, or you can customize it for something else. You can also customize control over streaming, replays, screenshots and other game related features.
This mouse has a 10g weight that is held in the base magnetically, or left off as you prefer, offering a different feel and more or less resistance to moving the mouse on its pad. I find I prefer the mouse without the weight, but that’s just a personal preference.
The G403 is quite precise, and I really like the very muted click when pressing a button. Frankly, loud mouse buttons or keyboards eventually drive me nuts, so the very muted click from this mouse is something I greatly appreciate.
I’ve found over the years that I prefer corded mice to cordless ones. BT mice are the least dependable, in my opinion. I’ve found BT to act up at times with various BT devices from earphones to keyboards. WiFi is more reliable, but even using them from time to time I may experience some slowdown in the pointer at times. Your experience may be different, but with corded devices I don’t experience any of these things, and since it’s USB there are no batteries to change.
Overall, I really like the G403 Gaming Mouse. I’m sure you can spend a lot more money and get a gaming mouse with more bells and whistles – if you’re into pro gaming, then go for it. For the rest of us, I find the G403 fits my office and gaming needs very nicely.

I tried to spec this same setup on Dell and it's impossible to combine a 9750 processor and a 60Hz monitor. Only 9750 options they have are standard with a 144Hz monitor so does this come with a 60hz or 144 hz monitor? Someone please confirm?

I'm running a 532D850 32" Samsung monitor through the Dell's miniDP port at 60Hz while running a HP 25" gaming monitor through the HDMI port of the Dell at 144Mz. The laptop screen is running from the Intel UHD 630 chip at 60Mz

Hi, Is this laptop capable to operate in Europe? Specifically France? As far I know, USA and Europe have different Power type.

You will need a power adapter specific to the country where you'll be using it.

Can this computer run UHD 4K movies? I asked a bestbuy employee and he told me this would not. That it would suffer. That I should go instead with another HP. That the chip is old. Is this right?? I want for Black Friday.
