A surprising new sound from Keith Urban
on August 31, 2016

I originally purchased Keith Urban's "Ripcord" for my sister as a birthday gift, who is a big fan of his, but upon listening to it for myself, I was pleasantly surprised about the new sound that he has going here (well, minus the guest appearance by Pitbull, who I can't stand). Gone were most of the rock leaning guitars and heavy drums...and in comes EDM-inspired loop drums along with pop-influenced beats.
Now, would I call this album "Country?" Not at all, but that isn't necessarily a bad thing because most of the material on this record is surprisingly solid, catchy, and musically diverse. In fact, I'd even recommend those that normally listen to pop music to check this album out, because there are many tracks on this album that rely on this genre the most, aside from the EDM genre, as I previously mentioned. There is also a very nice 80s feel to this album as well, largely thanks to synthesizer heavy tracks like "Gone Tomorrow (Here Today) (the keyboard heavy bridge is awesome in this track) and "Your Body" which sounds similar to Taylor Swift's song "Style" as well. Moreover, "The Fighter" which features the always wonderful Carrie Underwood, also gives off a 70s Diana Ross disco sound as well...which is great.
In summary, before I listened to this album, I really wasn't a huge Keith Urban fan, but now that I have, I am interested to see how his next album will sound. I do, however, like a few of his older tracks, such as "Better Life" and "Days Go By"...but just might pick up a copy of his "Greatest Hits" as well.

A nice improvement over the theatrical version

I very much enjoyed the "Ultimate Edition" of "Batman vs. Superman" when compared to the theatrical version because *spoiler alert* it shows more of the office life side of Clark Kent...and with that, many critical pieces of the film were actually brought together with the "Ultimate Edition" as well.
Now is the "Ultimate Edition" long? Sure...try 3 hours long...but I was okay with that for the sake of detail...when speaking in terms of the story plot.
Overall, I will take this version of the film over the theatrical version any day of the week!

This is how Country music should sound!

Finally...a mainstream Country artist that actually sings and sounds Country! This album is a masterful piece of work that does not disappoint! Some of my favorites are "California Sunrise" "Head Over Boots" and "Paycheck."
With that being said, for those that are yearning for a more traditional leaning Country sound when compared to today's "Nashville Pop" then this album is for you!

A solid and surprising effort from Hillary Scott
on August 31, 2016

What was originally intended to be a Christian album headlined by her father and mother, Lang Scott and Linda Davis, somehow morphed into a Christian themed project headlined by their daughter, Hillary Scott of Lady Antebellum, although the album itself also includes her family members of well...and the results are just about perfect.
Each song on this album has a personal meaning for Scott and her family...with "Thy Will" even making reference to a miscarriage that she suffered through as well.
In summary, even if you are Christian or not, this album is definitely worth a good listen....and really serves as a good family album too. Trust me...you won't be disappointed!

A sequel that improves on its predecessor

I actually walked out of the theater liking "London Has Fallen" better than its predecessor "Olympus Has Fallen." Although it relies on CGI for a majority of the action scenes, I thought that the storyline was set up better than the last film. Heck, one of the secondary characters in this franchise even dies too, but don't worry. I won't spoil who it is! However, in my opinion, this did not affect the overall quality of the film at all.
In summary, this is one of Gerard Butler's best films in a while. His character of Mike Banning fits him like a glove...and the "buddy" chemistry that he has with the President is always great too!
If you like a good action film with a decent story, do yourself a favor and see this movie!

"Steve Jobs" is a must-see!
on July 17, 2016

I definitely prefer this film over Ashton Kutcher's mundane "Jobs." Unlike Kutcher's film, everything about "Steve Jobs" was well done...from the way the story was set up to the frequent intense exchanges between then Apple CEO John Sculley (played brilliantly by the legendary Jeff Daniels) and Jobs himself, played by Michael Fassbender, who also did an outstanding job in this role as well. Moreover, while watching this film, I even learned a little more about Jobs' life than what I originally knew before...such as his rocky relationship with Chrisann Brennan for instance.
Moreover, it was also nice and almost unexpected, if you will, to see Seth Rogen in this film as well. Despite being known for his sometimes off-beat comedies, Rogen does surprisingly well here with his role as Steve Wozniak.
In summary, even if you're an Apple fan or not (I prefer Windows and Android) this film is a must-see! If you like a good drama with a biographical touch, then I can guarantee you that this film will not disappoint!

Blake Shelton delivers!
on June 18, 2016

Verified Purchase:Yes
"If I'm Honest" is Blake's best album since 2008's "Startin' Fires."
This album also marks Shelton's first since his very public divorce from country star Miranda Lambert...and there are some personal songs on this record, too. Emotionally driven songs like "She's Got A Way With Words" "Came Here To Forget" and "When I Think About You" are among the most personal songs on the record....and they do not disappoint.
Not only does Blake go back to his roots with a majority of the songs on this album, but the duet with his new girlfriend, Gwen Stefani, is surprisingly good as well.
Speaking of "Startin' Fires" die hard fans of Blake like me would take notice that he has remade the song "Green" from that album. In my opinion, I actually enjoyed the newer version of this song over the older one.
Moreover, Blake has always successfully had a way of combining tongue-in-cheek humor with his songs, and it has worked out pretty well for him almost every time. This is something that I have always loved about him as an artist.
In summary, whether you are a big fan of Blake or not, I'd give this album two strong thumbs up! Check this one out....as I can guarantee that you won't be disappointed!

A rather impressive solo debut

"The Driver" is Charles Kelley's first solo effort and he does not disappoint. Although his band Lady Antebellum was on hiatus when he made this record, you'd never know that he really left, as many of the songs sound like something that they would sing.
On that note, even though I've heard that Lady Antebellum will be releasing new music again soon, I hope to hear more from Charles in the near future.

Great film!

"Kingsman..." has all the nostalgia of a Bond film without even being linked to the Bond series...although let's just say that it feels like an R-rated version of a Bond film. In any case, the story line is well crafted and it also features an outstanding cast as well. I would highly recommend this film to anyone that enjoys good action!

A blast from the past!

"The Force Awakens" was a better film than I thought! I went in hoping that Disney wouldn't ruin a good thing, and I was not left disappointed. It was great to see the original cast back in action after so many years. Carrie Fisher, who had been out of acting for quite some time, was also a delight and Harrison Ford is always great to see on screen as well.
I thought the writers did a great job with the integration of new characters too. Unlike the prequels, the story plot of "The Force Awakens" was well crafted, and it stayed true to classic Star Wars themes without going too far off base. On that note, word on the street is that a separate "Star Wars" film, titled "Rogue One" will be hitting theatres later this year, with a completely different storyline and cast. So it will be interesting to see how this new film differs from "The Force Awakens" or if it even ties into this film at all.
