Dio + Blackmore = perfection!

If you are a fan of Blackmore and/or Dio and don't already have this album, buy it now! Basically, the entire album including all the performances on the album are great. This is probably my favorite album of Ritchie Blackmore's, including the many Deep Purple classics. For whatever reason, of Blackmore's entire body of work, I have a preference for the first few Rainbow albums. Something about the songwriting and Dio's voice with Ritchie's playing combine to absolute perfection, in my opinion. Certain songs are ridiculously good: "Man on a Silver Mountain," "Sixteenth Century Greensleeves," "The Temple of the King," etc. However, even on lesser tracks, for myself, Dio and/or Blackmore make them extremely interesting and enjoyable. Of Dio's work, I would probably rate this album neck and neck with Sabbath's "H&H," therefore, it's one of my favorites of his career output as well. I'll leave it at that—all that anyone needs to know is that this album is absolutely awesome and everyone should own it!

Paradise Lost can do no wrong

Although I have a preference to their more gothic metal, doomy albums, I tend to enjoy everything that Paradise Lost has done. I don't consider myself a fanboy; rather, unlike many other bands that have varied in style throughout their career, I think that Paradise Lost has covered diverse territory while maintaining a high level of quality.
"One Second" is a great example. It is more of a pop album—think Depeche Mode—than their earlier or more recent work, nevertheless, the continued strong songwriting make it a very enjoyable listen. If you're a fan of Paradise Lost and/or metal with rather limited tastes or generally not accepting of bands taking left turns musically, I would definitely avoid this album. However, if you're a fan of Paradise Lost or many styles of music, I would highly recommend checking this album out.

Classic death metal

I bought this release for "False," however, the inclusion of "Erase" is a bonus. To be honest, I'm pretty indifferent regarding both albums, although I definitely prefer "False" of the two. I am a big fan of early death metal and, although I had heard of Gorefest, I never checked out an entire album. After listening to a few tracks off of "False" on Youtube several times, I decided to check out the whole album. Although I enjoy it, I doubt this will become a personal all-time favorite album and/or band and this is why I say that I'm somewhat indifferent. As well, the performances and songwriting are all very good, although not spectacular. I'm sure that I will continue to revisit this album in the coming years and, if I develop a stronger opinion, I'll edit my current review. Nevertheless, this is a good product as it's a good value with the inclusion two albums and a pretty solid death metal release. I would definitely recommend this to fans of death metal.

Very epic!

This is a really great melodic death metal album! Off the top of my head, within the style, the only other album that I have liked as much or more in recent years is Soilwork's "The Living Infinite." As many great albums, this is the type that you can listen to from beginning to end, although I have a slight preference for the first half. In my opinion, the clean vocals are utilized very appropriately and not overdone. The only negative is that I wish that the entire album maintained the heavier, epic feel throughout, although the back half still contains very good songs. Also, my preference would lead to a less dynamic album as this album is quite varied and no two songs sound too similar. Overall, very good songs and performances. I would definitely recommend checking this out, especially for fans of any metal or melodic death. Enjoy!

Classic early metal/hard rock!

Previous to purchasing "Under the Blade," I had only owned Twisted Sister's "Big Hits & Nasty Cuts." Although I enjoyed their hits, I never felt compelled to delve further into their catalog, despite hearing many great things about their first few albums. Like many people, I tended to lump them in with '80s hair metal, of which I am not generally a big fan. After watching some of the "Live at Reading" DVD on YouTube, included in this version, and really enjoying it, I decided to give one of their studio albums a chance. I was not disappointed at all!
If you're a fan of classic, early Kiss, Judas Priest, etc.—early metal, classic hard rock—you will love this album. Basically, the entire album is very good and lacks filler, however, some of my personal favorites include: "What You Don't Know (Sure Can Hurt You)," "Bad Boys (Of Rock 'N Roll)," "Shoot 'Em Down," "Destroyer," and "Under the Blade"—all songs that have been in regular rotation in their live set list. Obviously, considering that there are no duds or filler on the album, the songwriting is very strong. Kind of like KISS, no individual in this band will blow you away with their technical prowess, however, they are more than competent to perform the given style and do justice to the great songwriting.
Whether you already own the album or not, this version is worth the price alone for the bonus material including: the "Ruff Cutts Version" of "What You Don't Know (Sure Can Hurt You)," "Shoot 'Em Down," "Under The Blade," and "Leader of the Pack," "Shoot 'Em Down (Live At Reading)," and the "Live At Reading" DVD.
Enjoy!

An epic, doomy journey!

Although I had heard a lot about Pallbearer, I only recently got into them from seeing them open for At the Gates on the Decibel Tour—there is just so much music to check out and, regarding metal, I generally have a preference toward classic, death, black, and thrash. I enjoyed Pallbearer's entire set; however, the last song that they played, "Foreigner," especially intrigued me. Therefore, I picked up this album. I wasn't disappointed as the entire album is a very enjoyable listen.
I'll admit that this style of music takes some patience. However, if you take the time to give it a few spins, like much great music, it gets better with more listens and your effort will be rewarded. What I like most about "Sorrow and Extinction" as well as this general style is that it takes you on a journey–I just kind of space out and am taken to another place. Also, I love the crushing wall of thick, distorted guitar. The music is super slow, nevertheless, the sound is SO heavy.
As to be expected, the album has a doomy, somber overall sound—"Foreigner" is a good example. There are also some moments that sound a bit more "evil," such as some of the riffs in "An Offering of Grief"—another of my personal favorites from the album. As most great music, I believe this album is best experienced by listening to it from beginning to end. The vocals are delivered in an Ozzy-type, nasally tone—a bit of an acquired taste, I'll admit. Again, the guitar tone is awesome and all of the other elements serve the music well. The bass is extremely audible throughout and aids for fatten up an already crushing sound. Overall, great performances and songs. I would definitely recommend this album to fans of this style and/or anyone interested in checking it out as well as any fan of great music.

Great melodic metal!

I was previously not really familiar with Armaggedon, however, I had been a fan of Arch Enemy up until a few albums ago—to me, their albums just got a bit stale—and the Amott brothers playing, specifically. I won't go into all of the details, but I believe that Arch Enemy peaked with "Wages of Sin." Anyhow, I have always been a fan of the Amott brothers and, especially Michael from his time in Carcass and Carnage. Well, I was somewhat interested to hear what Christopher would do post-Arch Enemy. Before the album's release, the "Equalizer" video got me even more intrigued. I was sold upon hearing the song "Fugitive Dust" just before the album's release. "Fugitive Dust" has a very epic feel and somewhat reminds me of Hypocrisy—whom I love. After listening to the album quite a few times, these would still probably have to be my favorites, however, the rest of the album is also very good and well worth owning, if you're previously a fan of Amott or a fan of melodic metal in general. There is nothing extremely groundbreaking here—as I've heard other reviewers say, as well—but there is enough diversity and, also, good, catchy songwriting, great guitar playing and melodies, etc. to make it an interesting album and a worthy addition to anyone's collection. Most of the album is pretty heavy—again, in the vein of Arch Enemy heaviness—with some more diverse elements including clean vocals, instrumental passages, and a few more progressive moments. Again, listen to "Equalizer" and you should have an idea about what the rest of the album is like. By the way, all the performances on the album are pretty good to great, with Amott being the highlight. I'll definitely be giving the earlier Armaggedon albums a more in-depth listen and I hope they tour in my area as I would certainly like to check them out live. I would definitely recommend this album! Enjoy!

On par with "Fantasies"

This is a really great album! I put off picking this one up because I didn't immediately fall in love with the first single. Furthermore, I was never a fanatic of the band, however, I really loved "Fantasies" and think that the album is solid beginning to end. Recently, I got on a bit of a kick again and had to buy the album, after listening to a few more songs online. I am beyond happy that I did! I will save my time as well as yours, and not go on with a drawn out review. Let's just say, that it is definitely on par with the previous effort and, therefore, easily worth the purchase! The songs that sold me were "Artificial Nocturne" and "Speed the Collapse," however, the entire album is great. It is also worth picking up the deluxe edition for the acoustic bonus tracks. Overall, this is a great album and, if you are a fan of the previous one or just a fan of great melodic, catchy music, you will likely love it as well!

I am a long time Soilwork fan, however, I somewhat lost interest following the release of "Figure Number Five." Due to a friend's recommendation, I checked out "The Living Infinite" and was beyond pleasantly surprised as it is an amazing album. Therefore, I have been backtracking to catch up on the few Soilwork releases that I missed over nearly a decade. I'm glad that I decided to catch up as this is a really good album.
For those hoping for "Chainheart Machine" or "A Predator's Portrait"-style albums, I would avoid this album as well as later Soilwork releases. However, if you enjoy melodic music and catchy songwriting with an aggressive edge, then I would highly recommend this release. This album is also very representative of metal core leanings, at times. To my ears, this is probably the catchiest of all the Soilwork albums, however, I still have 2 albums to catch up on. Personal highlights include "Late for the Kill, Early for the Slaughter," "The Thrill," and "Night Comes Clean," but the album is basically solid from front to back. Also, for the price, this album is beyond a steal as you can get the digipack for approximately $7. I would highly recommend this album as you can't go wrong. Be warned: if you are looking for melodeath, this is a real melodic representation at best. However, if you are interested in the band or like melodic yet harder-edged music, this is a very fun, catchy, enjoyable listen.

Great album!

Being a longtime thrash and, specifically, Exodus fan, I was really looking forward to this album because of Zetro's return. It did not disappoint one iota. I've heard the minority's complaints that this album is a throwback or that they shouldn't have brought Zetro back, but I do not understand these people at all! Aside, from Zetro's vocals being an acquired taste, they are the sound of classic era Exodus and just fit the their brand of thrash so well. I picked up "Shovel Headed Kill Machine" when it was released, but I just was never able to get into Dukes' vocals or the more groove metal sound of Exodus. I've liked a few songs over the years with Dukes, however, I never bought another album after "Shovel Headed." Previous to this album, the last great Exodus album was "Tempo of the Damned," in my opinion.
To me, "Blood In, Blood Out" is as good or better than "Tempo" and "Impact is Imminent" (I know that this one is often overlooked as a classic, but I love it!). "Fabulous Disaster" will probably always be my favorite and "Bonded by Blood" is an all-time great album, so I'll stop short of comparing this album to either of those albums. That said, "Blood In, Blood Out" is a modern day classic! The first four songs are absolutely wicked, fast thrash reminiscent of their classics with a bit of an updated sound/production (think "Impact" and prior mixed with "Tempo" song-wise and most similar to "Tempo" in production). Song five, "Body Harvest" slows it down a bit and is one of my least favorites (I've heard other people mention this as one of their faves). "BTK" has a similar groove metal vibe as "Body Harvest," to me, but is nevertheless awesome and heavy as hell with killer riffs. The remainder of the album is nearly, if not, as good as the front half—maybe not quite as catchy. Personal highlights: tracks 1-4, "BTK," and "My Last Nerve." All the performances are great! I can't stop listening to this album—I love it!!! I would highly recommend this album to fans of classic Exodus or thrash fans in general. Enjoy!

Can the essential oils be added to the water? In the comparison section for the product it says yes (check mark) but in one of the questions asked the answer given is no. So a bit confused. Refer to the screen shot attached.
