Rainbow at their best!

I'm a huge Ritchie Blackmore and Rainbow fan—specifically, the first three albums. Rainbow is one those bands for myself, including Queen and Thin Lizzy, that I would kill to have seen. Live videos are the closest that I'll ever get, including this awesome performance from arguably Rainbow's best lineup. Top-notch performances by everyone and a great set list that includes many of my favorite Rainbow tunes, such as, "Sixteenth Century Greensleeves" and "Catch the Rainbow." This edition includes a few additional features that make it well worth the price, although the concert alone is more than worth it. I would highly recommend this as an introduction to Rainbow or for longtime fans who have yet to pick it up.

High on Fire is always great!

Although I enjoy this album, I'd likely rank it a bit lower in the band's discography. I think that the production and/or songwriting make it a bit less interesting than the first three albums, for example. That said, I enjoy everything by High on Fire and everything else I've heard in which Matt has been involved. If you're first checking out High on Fire, I'd recommend picking up the earlier releases first. If you're already a fan, I would definitely recommend this album because it contains large parts of what most fans have come to expect and love, in particular a lot of great riffs and drumming.

Based solely on the music, I'd likely give this album 4 stars. However, for the price and being that I knew what I was purchasing in advance, I was kind with the 5 stars. This is a decent album but probably only necessary for big Ace fans because most of the originals, including Ace's, are better by most measures. I do like Ace's variations of the originals but the production is loud and bit too clean, which is my other complaint. As well, although I always thought that Ace had a good enough voice for rock, he often is rather dramatic with his delivery, in my opinion—evident within many of these covers. Otherwise, it's a fun listen, as Ace always rocks! If you're first getting into Ace, I'd definitely recommend a different album: "Frehley's Comet," his KISS solo album, or even one of his more recent albums of originals. If you're already a fan and uncertain about picking this up, I'd recommend spending the $10 or $12 because I think that you get your money's worth.

I’d assume that most people that are checking out Emily Haine’s solo work are fans of Metric. If you really enjoy Emily’s voice or songwriting, for example, you’ll likely enjoy “Knives Don’t Have Your Back” and “What is Free to a Good Home.” However, if you particularly enjoy the sound of Metric or a similar style, be warned that Emily’s solo material is quite different—I’d describe it as more stripped down and way less poppy. That said, it’s really good, although I’m not the most objective judge, as I’ve enjoyed everything that both Emily and/or Metric have released. My advice: if you’re still interested, for the price, I’d buy both albums and decide for yourself.

One of the Cult's best albums!

"Love" is widely considered a classic album, especially by fans of the band. This particular edition is pretty cool if you're more than only a casual fan of the band: pretty neat packaging and additional musical content. If you're not familiar, first getting into, or only a casual fan of the Cult, I'd likely recommend the standard edition due to the price. You're probably better using the additional money that you'd spend on this version toward a few other of classic Cult albums (e.g., "Electric," Sonic Temple"), as they have a lot of great material to explore. If you're already a fan of the band and/or album and would like to own the definitive version of the album, then this is likely the one to own. Whatever edition that you choose to purchase, "Love" is a great album and deserving of the praise that it gets.

Alice Cooper becoming even more theatrical.

Obviously, when compared to earlier efforts, especially the Alice Cooper band, Alice Cooper's albums became more produced and orchestrated to finish out the 70s. Although Alice may have lost a bit of his sinister edge, he nevertheless continued delivering great songs/albums. "From the Inside" is a great example of how Alice has been able to cover a lot of ground musically, while maintaining a high level of quality. Although much of the music on "From the Inside" lies more within the pop realm than hard rock, the theme is inherently dark, which Alice Cooper is able to convey with his classic shtick. I'm not going to do a song-by-song review, but I think that every song is well written and deserving of its place on the album.
For myself, I don't hold this album in as high of regard as earlier Alice Albums (i.e. "Killers," "Love It to Death," "Billion Dollar Babies," etc.) solely because of my tastes; however, I think it's really great and I continually revisit it. Certain Alice albums remind me of a poor man's Zappa—not intended as a slight—rather, they're complex, yet more accessible than Zappa. I put this album in this category that requires a certain mood, yet is extremely enjoyable. If you're looking for straight up hard rock, I would look to the earlier albums. However, if you feel like being told a story through great songs, this is the album. I'd highly recommend this album!

Metric can do no wrong

Upon listening to this album, it is pretty obvious why it was felt that this album was not indicative of the band's sound when compared to "Old World Underground" or "Live It Out." Although I feel that no two Metric albums sound too much alike, this album is the most unlike the others and without a comparable counterpart within the band's discography. Although many of the band's hallmarks that fans of the band enjoy are present on this release, aside from a few uptempo tracks, this is probably the least accessible upon a few listens. In my opinion, the songs are very well written but just, as a whole, not as catchy as their later releases. If you are first getting into Metric, I would probably recommend picking up any of their later albums first. However, if you are already a fan, I would definitely purchase this album as it is a great album.

Somewhat of a return to a more punk rock sound

This album has gotten a lot of bad reviews and I really don't understand why. I'm a huge fan of the Misfits, the first four Danzig albums (i.e. the classic lineup), and, to a somewhat lesser extent, Samhain. Although I check out Danzig's recent output here and there, I find that as with many classic acts I don't feel compelled to revisit Danzig's recent albums as I do with the classics. Similarly, I doubt that I'll be spinning this album often years from now and that is why I gave it four stars. However, what I do enjoy about this release is that the more punk-like feel of many of these tracks reminds me of Danzig's early career. Also, I love several of the original versions of the songs that are covered and, if nothing else, Danzig does them justice with a bit of a different take on many. Personally, I don't find the production to be anywhere near as bad as many reviewers are making it out to be; however, I've grown accustomed to bad production from listening to a lot of more underground styles/bands over the years, so it isn't usually a deal breaker for myself. Given the low price, it is totally worth picking up, even if only for a few spins, as it is definitely an enjoyable listen. If you aren't already a Danzig fan, I'd recommend anything by the Misfits with Danzig or one of the first four Danzig releases first.
