A little let down with the Nova 7
on September 12, 2022
Posted by: KMont1234
I've heard of SteelSeries before, and from what I've read, they make some of the best gaming headphones and accessories on the market. Unfortunately, with the Arctis Nova 7, I don't really understand what all the buzz is about.
Out of the box, these headphones have a nice weight to them. They feel durable and premium. I like that it charges via USB C and even the wireless adapter features it. Set up went pretty quick. You need to download the SteelSeries GG Software to get the most out of your headset. Once the firmware was up to date, they were tested in different games.
To start off, sound quality on these is fine. I normally use Corsair Void Pros, which I feel give more of a "vibrant" sound then these. The Nova 7 seems a little bit too quiet and slightly muffled. I tried it with Dolby Atmos for Headphones using Windows Spatial Audio, and that made things a bit better. As for the microphone, I was having issues on my Discord calls where it would pick up wind blowing from a fan across the room. Also the Mic Feedback is not the best, it was a bit tinny.
The button controls on the side were a bit hard to feel when wearing them. Speaking of wearing, comfort is actually not that bad. I have a bit of a larger head, so I had to open the earcups to the largest size. Padding is quite comfortable as well.
I was expecting something amazing with the Arctis Nova 7 Headset, but the sound and mic quality just weren't there. SteelSeries got things right with using USB C and making the headset feel solid, but they did not put enough attention to where things matter.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Fastest SSD I've used
on September 5, 2022
Posted by: KMont1234
When it comes to hard drives and storage, Western Digital is a name that always pops up. I already use a 4 TB WD Black HDD for my game library, so when I got the opportunity to try out the WD Black SN850X, I was excited to upgrade my computer.
I boot Windows off of a 256 GB M.2 drive, so I decided to "upgrade" it with the new WD Black SSD. WD has their own software for cloning called Acronis True Image, but I had some issues using it. I used a different program to clone my Windows drive to the new 1 TB drive, and after a few minutes, it was ready to go.
My set-up has an Intel i9 9900k, so I don't have the latest and fastest motherboard with PCIe Gen 4. But still, compared to my old 256 GB SSD, the new WD SSD is a lot faster. Most notable gains were in the Write speeds, which saw a jump of around 1700 MB/s. The Read speeds also saw a jump of around 300 MB/s. Sequential Read and Write speed tests also saw a notable gain compared to my old 256 GB SSD.
I also decided to compare the WD SSD to my 2.5 inch Samsung SSD (which I thought was already pretty fast). I was shocked how much of a difference using PCIe M.2 SSDs really affect speeds. Comparing the WD Black SSD to my WD Black HDD was also a big shock. You get a 14x gain in Read speeds and an almost 15x gain in Write speeds. Insane!
These new SSDs from WD are really great. I feel confident that they will last and continue to perform without any issues. If you have a PCIe Gen 4 (or even Gen 3) compatible motherboard, this is the drive you want. If you're running Windows off of a HDD or even a 2.5 inch SSD, this will be a big upgrade for you.

Big Upgrade from ecobee 4
on June 21, 2022
Posted by: KMont1234
I’ve had an ecobee 4 Thermostat since 2018 and really enjoyed its simplicity and features, but the new Premium model is such a huge upgrade in terms of technology and design.
First thing was installation. Since I already had an ecobee thermostat, it was fairly straight forward to install. The new one uses a different mounting plate and the wire holes are labeled pretty much the same. It took me about 10 minutes total to get it wired and powered on. Using the ecobee app, I deleted my old thermostat and added the new one to my account. Once it was connected to my WiFi, it was ready to go. The Premium thermostat also includes a SmartSensor, which monitors temperature and motion in different rooms of your home. It can either be mounted to the wall or placed on a table with an included stand. Since I had some Room Sensors and SmartSensors from before, I also had to pair them with the new thermostat, which was fairly easy.
Some of the immediate upgrades I noticed with the Premium thermostat was the build quality, with a beautiful metal body and sleek glass screen. Its a huge bump up from the full plastic of my ecobee 4. I also really like the larger display and new user interface. It’s much easier to read from across the room and more intuitive to change the temperature settings. Another thing with the ecobee Premium is the inclusion of an air-quality monitor. I can easily check to see the pollutant levels in my home.
My smart home runs using Apple HomeKit, and the ecobee Premium works great with it. During the set-up process, it gives you an option to scan the HomeKit QR code to add it to your home. Not only do you get the main thermostat in HomeKit, but you also get the SmartSensors added as well (I’m having issues adding the older Room Sensors to HomeKit). You can then ask Siri what the temperature is in a specific room. Speaking of Siri, the ecobee Premium has built-in “Hey Siri”, meaning you can ask Siri questions directly on the thermostat, provided you already have a HomePod in your home. And what’s also neat with the thermostat and HomeKit is that you can make it into an AirPlay Speaker, so when you want to play music all around your home, it will also play on the thermostat as well. It is not going to be amazing quality sound, but its really cool.
The ecobee Premium Thermostat is an awesome device. I really like all of the new features and its sleek, simple design. If you’re coming from any of the previous ecobee models or from any other smart thermostat, then the new Premium Thermostat will not dissapoint.

Sit Back and Relax
on June 15, 2022
Posted by: KMont1234
Over the years, I’ve owned many different robot vacuums. Some dumb, some smart, some with AI vision, some with LIDAR. My first robot vacuum was the iRobot Roomba 890. It was very simple to set up and had amazing cleaning capabilities. After trying out some other vacuums, none compared to the cleaning of the Roomba. When I got the chance to try out the Roomba i3+ and the Braava jet m6, I was happy to be back with iRobot.
Roomba i3+
If you never tried out a robot vacuum with a self-empty dock, you’re missing out. The convenience of being able to just let the vacuum run without having to empty the bin every other day is amazing. With the i3+, you get the vacuum, self-empty dock, an extra filter, and an extra dust bag. Set-up was very simple using the iRobot app. Compared to the other newer Roomba vacuums, this one does not have a camera sensor to map. Instead it’s able to create a map using a floor sensor, which is able to create pretty accurate map of your home. You can then label all the different rooms in your home and schedule the Roomba to clean in specific areas. Just like most vacuums, there will be times where the Roomba will get stuck in some places or jam itself under furniture or cabinets. Unfortunately the i3 does not have Keep-Out Zones on the map and instead you have to use the old style Virtual Wall Barriers. Something else to look out for is the noise of the self-empty dock. It is extremely loud. The first time I heard it, it sounded like a jet engine in my living room. At least I know that all the dust has been removed from the vacuum.
Braava jet m6
The m6 is a nice little addition in the world of cleaning robots. Just like the Roomba, the m6 was easy to set-up in the iRobot app. Since the Braava has a camera, it’s able to create more accurate maps than the Roomba i3. It completed a Mapping Run in around 30 minutes and I was able to label each room . The only issue was that since the m6 sits very low to the floor, it wasn’t able to go over some of my rugs and sometimes only mapped half of a room. As for the cleaning, I have hardwood floors throughout my home, with tile in the kitchen. It does a great job of sweeping the hardwood with a dry mopping pad. On my first cleaning run in the kitchen, I used the included concentrate cleaner for hard floors and the wet mopping scrub pad. On the surface it seemed to do a decent job, but once it dried and I stepped into the kitchen, I could feel the floors were a bit sticky. It didn’t leave any streaks, but just a sticky residue. This may have been due to the amount of cleaner coming out of the spray (which is adjustable), or maybe the included cleaner isn’t that great. I might just use water in the Braava going forward to eliminate this issue.
Final Thoughts
The Roomba/Braava Bundle is something that I have really been enjoying. Because everything is in one app, the vacuum is able to connect to the mop and let it know that is finished its job, keeping my floors clean everyday. It’s an automated process that allows me to just sit back and let the robots do their jobs.

Flawlessly connected, Fiercely protected. Austere is moving beyond the primary function of providing power, to a place where performance, safety, and design come together to define what you should expect in power. Using our PureFiltration technology, Austere Power cleans noise and artifacts, that can travel through power lines and keeps them from impacting your devices. In addition, the Omniport USB provides rapid charge and protection for low-voltage devices. Austere also employs flameless MOV circuits and thermal protected outlets, keeping you safe from a home electrical fire. And if anything were to happen, our Component Guarantee promises to protect your equipment from damage, regardless of its value, whenever your devices are plugged into an Austere Power product. And because how it looks is as important as what it does, Austere’s proprietary aDesign philosophy elevates function through purposeful engineering and sleek design. Our surge protector power strips have a brushed aluminum housing, which creates an elegant way to power your home electronic devices. Always. Not all power is created equal. You may not know it, but your surge protectors can wear out over time. Joules–the protective layer of energy that defends your components–are finite. And when they are gone, it leaves your system completely unprotected from shock or surge. Traditional surge protectors only last a year or two so if you can’t remember when you last refreshed your home’s power, it’s likely time to do it now. And to take out the guesswork of when your Austere Power needs to be replaced, the blue protection shield icon on the Power unit will cease to illuminate once the Joules have been used. But that won’t happen for a long time because Austere Power is rated to last more than five times as long as most power products and guarantees to safeguard your system with our Component Guarantee.

1st Class Power Strip
on May 2, 2022
Posted by: KMont1234
from Los Angeles, CA
No more hiding your power outlet behind a dresser. The Austere V Series Power Strip is a really nice addition to my set-up. Unboxing was a nice experience. A lot of effort went into making the packaging feel premium and simple. The power strip itself is very high quality. Made with aluminum, its very durable and looks very nice. Also the braided cable gives it even more class. It has 6 power outlets, 3 USB C ports and 2 USB A ports. I was able to get rid of my USB C power adapter for my iPad and just plug it in directly to the power strip. All the outlet connections felt strong and secure. Another benefit with this power strip is that it is a surge protector. I have my gaming PC connected to the strip and I feel confident that my devices will be safe in the event something were to happen. Something Austere also mentions is their PureFiltration technology. It helps "clean" the noise that goes through power lines. I haven't noticed any difference yet, but its good to know I'm getting the cleanest power to my devices.
I'm very pleased with the Austere V Series Power Strip. Even though it is just a power strip, it's one of the best I've ever used.

Purifying in less than a minute.
on January 28, 2022

from Los Angeles, CA
Having good quality air in your home is always important. The Kyvol Air Purifier is a great device that can easily help keep dust and allergens out of the air.
Set-up was very simple. Just remove the unit out of the box and unwrap the internal filter. It uses a USB-C power connector to run. And that's pretty much it. No need to connect to WiFi or do anything else; it's ready to start purifying in less than a few minutes.
It has some really nice features like a Nightlight with adjustable brightness and different fan speeds. The design is also really nice and feels well-made. Something that I noticed though was the fan had a bit of an electrical whirring sound to it. I'm not sure if it's just my unit, but if you want something quiet then that might be an issue.
The Kyvol Air Purifier is a great device for people who want a simple solution to clean the air in their home. No apps to set-up or updates to install, just an all-around great air purifier.

Great MagSafe Dock!
on December 2, 2021
Posted by: KMont1234
from Los Angeles, CA, USA
My go-to brand for cables and chargers has always been Anker. I've been using their products for years and they never disappoint. The same can be said for the MagGo Wireless Charger. It's a small wireless charger that features a magnetic mount for MagSafe compatible iPhones. It's been working great with my 12 Pro Max. It can also wireless charge my AirPods Pro on the hidden charging pad. I like that I can place my iPhone on the dock at night and the quick glow of the LED base confirms that it's charging. Even though it isn't officially MagSafe with the 15W charging, it still charges at a good rate. Something I noticed is that the back of the magnetic stand can get hot after a while, but it doesn't seem to affect the charging. Overall, I'm extremely happy with the MagGo Charger. It's small and convenient to have.

Set it and Forget it
on November 17, 2021
Posted by: KMont1234
from Los Angeles, CA, USA
I own a Dyson vacuum and it has been awesome. Good quality and reliable. So when I had the opportunity to try this new Dyson Purifier, I had a good idea of what I was getting.
To start, unboxing was a bit crazy with multiple boxes inside the main box. I had to make sure I wasn't leaving any small parts behind. Set-up was very simple. The companion app Dyson Link helps guide you to get the purifier running. Because this is also a Humidifier, you also add water to the bottom tank. Just be careful not to spill anything on the lid as there are some electrical components.
I've had it running 24/7 on Auto mode for the fan and humidifier and it's been great. At first it really revved up the fans to start cleaning, but after a few hours it became very silent. I almost forget its even there. The little display on the front is a great indicator to see what the Air Quality is in your home. And the whole unit is very responsive. Immediately after opening our front door, the Purifier will rev up as it detects more particles coming inside.
I'm really happy with the new Dyson Purifier. It blew all my expectations away. It's great knowing what's in the air we breathe while at home. All the data collected from the sensors really helps with knowing what changes need to be made at home to keep it clean and safe.

The Future is USB-C Only
on November 11, 2021
Posted by: KMont1234
from Los Angeles, CA, USA
I'm using the Razer Thunderbolt 4 Dock Chroma with my new 2021 14 in MacBook Pro.
-Build Quality: Fully metal and seems durable. Rubber bottom so it doesn't slide on a desk.
-Port Selection: There are 3 Thunderbolt 4 ports in the back, as well as 3 USB-A ports, 1 ethernet, and the power connector. Front has SD card slot, 3.5mm headphone jack, and the Source Thunderbolt port. No HDMI or DisplayPort if that's what you need.
-Ease of Use: If you have fully converted to USB-C, then this is a Plug and Play Thunderbolt dock. Once everything is connected in the back, one cable goes to your computer and you're ready to work.
So even though this dock is great, there are some problems with it, especially for Mac users. The main thing is that you cannot control the RGB. Razer is no longer supporting their software on macOS, even though their website says that the Chroma Dock works great with M1 Macs. So if you like to leave your Mac in clamshell mode plugged in overnight, prepare for a spectacle of RGB illuminating the room. At least some type of toggle to disable RGB would've been nice. Also, even though the future may be USB-C, not all monitors are adopting it yet. An HDMI or DisplayPort would've been a great addition. Prepare to purchase new display cables or adapters. Also, I think placing the Source port in the back would make the dock look a lot sleeker.
For people who are fully into USB-C and would like a great, responsive Thunderbolt 4 dock, this Razer Chroma Dock will work perfectly. Mac users should look at the "Mercury" edition this dock, as there is no RGB on that model. Overall, works great and I'm very happy with how it's performing.

Amazing Battery Pack
on September 28, 2021
Posted by: KMont1234
from Los Angeles, CA, USA
At school, I’m always carrying my laptop, iPad, and phone. With some classes still being online, its great to know that I have the ARROE battery pack for emergency charging. I’m primarily using it with a 2017 MacBook Pro, but it works really well with older MacBooks with the MagSafe connector (which is included in the box).
Pros
-Easy set-up with the ARROE app.
-Notifications when devices are done charging.
-2 USB C charging ports (1 with 60W charging).
-Slim and light design that fits almost anywhere.
-Convenient wireless charging for phones or any device that can charge wirelessly.
-Multiple cables and accessories included in the box.
-Holds enough charge to get you through the day.
-Battery pack recharges fairly quick.
Cons
-Plastic shell is a little soft and I do worry how it will handle over time.
-Ran into some issues with the ARROE app on Mac. Seems to always log-out and doesn’t seem to work that great.
Overall, I really like this power bank. For any traveler or college student who is limited in space, the ARROE is the best choice. I’m very excited to see what other devices they come out with.

Tough on bad guys. Easy on you.The Nest Secure alarm system is easy to live with every day. Just tap Nest Tag on Nest Guard to arm and disarm the alarm - no passcode needed. Nest Detect sensors look out for doors, windows and rooms. And with the Nest app, you can keep an eye on what matters.

Will Moni Monitoring Plan include video storage from Nest Cams or include Nest Aware subscription? To me, including nest aware is the selling point, otherwise, the ADT Security Hub by Smartthings will become the go to for DYI home security systems.

It looks like the Moni Monitoring only adds 24/7 monitoring and Cellular Back-up service. It is not connected to your Nest cams or Nest Aware.

Automatic recharging keeps this Roomba robot vacuum powered so that it's ready to go.

Does it clean in a grid pattern or randomly?

From what I've seen, the Roomba 890 cleans randomly. It will eventually get everything, so there is some method to its random movements. The Roomba 980 cleans in a more grid pattern because of the better camera system on that model.
