I have the first generation Anova Precision Cooker and love using it. It does exactly what it says, cooks food using the sous vide method and does it perfectly every time. The Anova 3.0 doesn’t look all that different from the original. The basic design and aesthetic features are the same, right down to the clamp you use to secure the Anova to your cooking container.
However, the big difference with the new Anova is that it connects to the Anova app. It allows you to control the Anova remotely (which is nice when I have to go into the office), plus it offers a variety of recipes. There are some many things you might not think about cooking sous vide, so the app can really spark some interesting ideas. I’ve done all of the usual things you see, and steaks are probably still my favorite, but you can prepare most of your meal in advance with Anova as well. One of my family’s favorite things to do is fingerling potatoes with butter, garlic, and herbs. When the potatoes are done you can leave them whole or smash them. You will not find smoother, creamier potatoes anywhere. The Anova stays incredibly accurate, never loses temperature, so food comes out exactly the way you expect, every single time.
One thing I would recommend is getting the plastic cooking container that Anova offers. I thought this was a little silly at first, but it actually makes a huge difference. Cooking in a regular pot can limit the space you have to work with, whereas the cooking container is wider across but still quite deep, so you can fit a lot more in it and make sure things are cooked evenly. The container also works very well with the precision cooker because although you are cooking at lower temperatures, it is still very hot. And cooking in a non-food grade container can be dangerous (the container may collapse). Honestly, I have nothing bad to say about the Anova. This is my second one and I love it as much as the first and can’t wait to try to some new recipes.

Solid, entry level option
on April 29, 2023
Posted by: glspark2007
This Chromebook is exactly what it says it is. All you need to do is look at the specs to know that this is intended to be an entry level Chromebook good for basic processing and computing, especially for students.
It doesn’t have any crazy bells and whistles, and storage capacity is low because things like documents, spreadsheets, and presentations do not take that much space nor do they require super fast operating speeds. The specs offered and features included match the price point, and if anything, gives pretty good bang for your buck.
I was pleasantly surprised by the number of USB ports (including 2x USB C ports). My very fancy gaming laptop which is only a year older only has one. I also appreciated the protective sleeve that was included with the laptop. That’s perfect for carrying the laptop in a bag with other items so that you don’t need a separate laptop bag to keep it protected.
Overall, this is an excellent starter laptop, perfect for a young student who is possibly in need of their first computer.

RevAir is designed to dry, stretch, smooth, and lengthen all hair types in less than half the time of traditional blow dryer / flat iron combinations. (Yes, we did say HALF the time.) Our patented technology dries hair in the natural direction of the cuticle (downward) to lock out frizz and seal in shine. And since it uses low heat, it won’t burn up your hair either. Faster, easier, healthier styling? Yes, please!

Mixed feelings
on April 22, 2023
Posted by: glspark2007
As the title says, I have very mixed feelings about this hair dryer. First thing you need to know is this is not at all like your typical hair dryer. That is both good and bad.
Let’s talk about the good first. It works. It does what it’s supposed to do. I have curly/wavy hair that frizzes and poofs out like crazy, particularly if I don’t dry it first. My go to is to just usually let it air dry (takes a while because it’s thick too) and then use a straightener on it. This is mainly because it’s quick. I work from home most of the time, so as long as I don’t have any meetings coming up, it’s not a big deal to let my hair dry and then run a straightener through it. I don’t fully straighten my hair, instead I use it to tame some of the wilder curls and cut down on the frizz and poofiness. The RevAir allows me to do all of those things while my hair is still wet. I used a low to medium intensity setting (as low as 2 and went as high as 4 – the highest setting is 7). It removed some of the crazier curls and calmed my hair down. As advertised, it was also very quick at drying my hair. I love all of those things and wouldn’t hesitate for a second to keep using it…if it wasn’t for the following issues.
The cons. One, it is huge. It reminds me more of a small vacuum cleaner than a large hair dryer. It has a base unit that by itself weighs several pounds. Connected to that is the hose, and it quite literally is like a vacuum hose, as big around and heavy, just not as long. The hose connects the base to the actual drying head, which also weighs at least a pound (maybe closer to two?) Between the weight, the bulk, and the vacuum hose, this thing is not easy to use. You have to feed your hair into it (because it works in reverse, it pulls your hair in instead of blowing it all over the place). Then you have to raise it high enough so that it gets to the roots and hold it there for a while to get the full effect. This was manageable in front but it got to be more and more difficult as I made my way around. When I got to the hair in back, it was very hard to get my hair in, hold the wand in place, and then do that over and over again to finish drying my hair. And speaking of vacuum cleaners, this is as loud as or louder than a vacuum cleaner.
So, all of this to say, yes, I have very mixed feelings. It does what I was told it would and it does do it well. But who has room for something like this? And even if you do have counter space, it’s not the prettiest thing to have sitting out all the time. It’s sleek and nice for what it is (well, except for the vacuum hose), but it doesn’t exactly fit my décor either. And then it’s so heavy and clunky to use. I have to be honest, I think this will probably end up sitting in a cupboard except for those times where I really want to make an effort. Ultimately, it’s nice and it works, but for the price tag, please work on making it smaller and more manageable. Until then, I don’t know that I’d recommend this product.

Good starter system (if you don’t mind wires)
on April 16, 2023
Posted by: glspark2007
Ok, keeping the price in mind on this system is important. I’ve had a lot of different security cameras and systems in my house, both wired and wireless, wifi and hardwired. There are many pros and cons to both.
All of that said, holy wires, Batman! Yes, this is a wired system and no it doesn’t have wifi (even for the DVR, which has to be physically connected to your modem). If you haven’t done this kind of setup before, it might be advisable to get some help or you’ll have wires hanging out all over the place. As I said at the beginning, this is an inexpensive system, and wifi/wireless is always going to cost more. However, it is MUCH easier setup. But if you live in a more remote area and you need wired anyway, this may be an excellent option for you.
1080p is pretty much the minimum standard these days. And although it’s not 4K, 1080p is still good quality, so video quality with these cameras is clear and good.
Here’s the bottom line. If you are looking for an entry level security system and don’t mind wires, this is an excellent option. With the DVR, storage is local so no additional fees. However, if you want wireless and/or more features, you will want to look at other options.

Works well, no wifi
on April 16, 2023
Posted by: glspark2007
Overall, this is seems to be a good detector that does what it says it will. Full disclosure, this is my first radar detector so I don’t have as much to compare to. My comparisons are based somewhat on other in car devices, like dash cams
With the dash cam (and just general state of current technology today) I’m not impressed that this model doesn’t come with wifi compatibility. This is already a pricey item and I have to pay for the upgraded one just to get wifi? Without that, any software/firmware updates have to be done by removing from the car and connecting to a computer. Not a fan of that at all and that’s the reason for the 4 stars.
That being said, this does work and work well. I live in California and everyone knows about our CHP right? (CHiPs?) They’re good and sneaky. This detector has been able to pick them up when I’m driving on the freeway and on country highways. That’s the main thing I wanted and it does it.
The app is eh. Kind of confusing, lots to learn and things you can tweak but it’s also not necessary to use most of that. The default settings do their job and as you get more used to it you can do more minute adjustments to fit your needs.
Overall it’s a cool and effective piece of tech. The lack of wifi is a bit of an inconvenience but not a showstopper.

Immersive
on January 9, 2023
Posted by: glspark2007
In a lot of ways, this monitor could seem like overkill, and maybe it actually is. But if you want an immersive gaming experience, this is the way to do it. Plus, it is good for other options, including multitasking, whether you’re streaming and working or simply need multiple screens open for work or other projects. Instead of having multiple monitors, you can have one huge monitor that puts everything together.
When it comes to gaming, a 32 inch 4K monitor with lightening fast refresh does something that most just can’t. You feel like you’re almost part of the game. It gives you the views and detail that wouldn’t be possible with a smaller/lower quality monitor. The combination of HD quality with refresh speeds cannot be beat. And when I’m not gaming, I still love using this monitor to stream movies and have enough space to multitask and do other work.
Setup as you would expect is super simple, plug in that HDMI and go. I have no complaints and am actually just having a blast with this monitor.

It’s all in the name
on November 17, 2022
Posted by: glspark2007
Smooth skin, and they mean it. I have the first generation, full size SmoothSkin Hair Removal System and love it. The one problem is, it’s harder to get the larger head onto small places, like the upper lip. The mini version solves that problem but still offers all of the power and effectiveness of the full size model. I freaking love it!
I have had good amount of professional laser hair removal done on my face (PCOS – if you know, you know) and armpits in particular. If you’re comparing the SmoothSkin hair removal system strictly to professional laser hair removal, you MIGHT be disappointed. For one thing, it takes longer. With professional treatments, they run the laser over your body in smooth motions and it covers a lot of the area in a short amount of time. With SmoothSkin (like most at home systems), you have to push a button every time you want the laser to flash. It’s not the best (again in comparison to professional treatments), but there’s a reason those are professional. You have to be trained for that so you don’t get burned. No training required here and of course the cost of the SmoothSkin is a fraction of the cost of multiple professional hair removal treatments.
Now, in terms of actual hair removal, this thing does work! It takes several treatments and if you’re like me with PCOS, you’ll never be done with the treatments. However, I have a friend who doesn’t have PCOS and occasionally needs some touchup, but for the most part, her hair stays gone. Another important comparison to make is between the SmoothSkin and other at home treatments. Believe me, I’ve tried them, and they are not nearly as effective. SmoothSkin actually does what it says it will AND it does not run out of flashes. With a lot of other models (at least some of the earlier ones I tried), you had to replace the flash cartridge after a certain number of uses, which of course costs more. The SmoothSkin does not have that problem, so what you pay up front is the only cost for the life of the product. And I’ve had my other SmoothSkin system for about two years now and it’s still going strong.
Lastly, I love the size of this mini version. If anything, it’s actually more effective than the first gen models. However, I find it’s also easier to hold and causes less fatigue in my hands when I’m doing large areas (like my legs). Honestly, I can’t recommend this product enough. It’s worth every penny and has made my life living with PCOS so much better.

Can't Go Wrong with HP
on November 8, 2022
Posted by: glspark2007
In my opinion, you really can't go wrong with an HP printer. I've tried a lot of other brands but always end up coming back to HP. This is a fairly basic printer as printers go these days, but even at this lower price point, it still includes a scanner/copier. I'm also a fan of the HP+ Smart app that allows you to view printer details (ink levels, connectivity, etc.) through the app. It also allows you to control scanned material and their save locations either on your phone or your computer. In my opinion both HP printers and the HP+ app are simple to setup and use.
This is a basic printer that can handle basic print jobs, and these days, that's plenty for the average home. If you're looking for an office printer, super high quality photo prints, or high capacity print job capability, then this would not be the printer for you. This printer is for the home user who probably does print more than a couple hundred pages a month (if that). Maybe your kids have homework they need to print or you like to print out recipes, then this would be an excellent, low cost option.
It's great for what it is and as I said, I don't think you can go wrong with an HP printer.

Front and Rear View for the Win
on November 7, 2022
Posted by: glspark2007
The first thing you have to note about this Rexing dashcam is the fact that it has both front and rear facing cameras included…particularly at this price point, that’s huge. I have used other brands of dashcams in this same price range or higher that were only front facing. Between online videos and my own driving experiences these days, you need that second “set of eyes” in the back to keep an eye on your fellow drivers. I’ve personally witnessed road rage incidents and seen my fair share of scary stuff that I just don’t want to drive anywhere without a dashcam these days.
The basic setup for this Rexing dashcam is straightforward and simple enough with good instructions and a great app for use. There are some limits on what you can do if you do not get the Rexing Intelligent Hardwire Kit. I do plan to get this but haven’t yet. I do wish this was included with the camera rather than needing a separate purchase because it does limit the features somewhat. You won’t get the full experience and all of the benefits of this particular dashcam if you don’t get it hardwired. I’ve never done had that done with a dashcam, so it’s a big of a new experience for me. I hesitated a bit because I am someone who likes to switch up their tech frequently. However, the camera quality is very good and you’d be hard pressed to find another dashcam that does everything this one does at this price point. I like the extra features that it offers because of the included rear camera, such as parking assist. Although that is also a redundant feature in my car because I do have a rear parking camera already. So, if you don’t have that in your car, that is another reason this would be a good (and actually quite affordable) option for you.
I took the one star off because of the hardwire needs to get the benefits of all of the features of this dashcam, but if you do hardwire it, it’s a great way to go and I do recommend it.

Starter Model
on October 23, 2022
Posted by: glspark2007
This is what I would call a starter model projector, at least if you intend to use it for home entertainment. The video quality isn’t bad if you keep the picture small, 40” to maybe 50”. Anything bigger than that where you’re trying to watch a movie or other entertainment, I think you may be disappointed as the video quality simply doesn’t compare to most large screen HD TVs these days. However, considering the cost of cinema level projectors, this isn’t a bad way to start, especially since it is smaller and easier to setup and use more consistently.
I also found it to be pretty phenomenal for office presentations. It showed all of my content in PowerPoint presentations and demonstrations on webpages clearly for an audience of about 20. It’s also ideal for presentations since it’s plug and go. Connect everything and you can be presenting in very short order. I’ve always been a fan of Epson projectors and this one is no different.
I took the one star off simply because you can’t go too big with the projection, but that’s also not all together unexpected when considering the price point. Overall, easy setup, quality picture (as long as you don’t go too big with the projection), and great for office presentations.

No, it has to be upright in the portrait position. It doesn't work in landscape, and the phone bumps into the charging location for the Apple Watch when in landscape anyway.
