Gets the job done
on November 3, 2023
Posted by: glspark2007
These Insignia screen protectors do get the job done, although I don’t love the application process. Most screen protectors these days are packaged with an all-in-one application process, meaning the screen protector is attached to the disposable plastic applicator. This makes applying the screen protector to your phone almost fool proof. While these Insignia protectors do come with an applicator, they’re separate from the screen protectors. That means they can still move around when trying to apply, leaving you with a less than perfect application. It does work, but it’s just not quite as easy as other brands.
However, once applied, you have a good screen protector that stays on and does its job. Bottom line is, it’s a screen protector and it does its job. Personally, I think next time I’d spend a few more dollars to get one that’s easier to apply (trust me, I need the fool proof). However, if you don’t mind the application process being like this, then you’re good and this is a good value.

Stick with Roomba
on November 3, 2023
Posted by: glspark2007
I’ve had several robot vacuums, and for some reason, I also felt like I could find something equal to a Roomba without getting a Roomba. Don’t ask me why, and I’m finally convinced that Roomba is the first and best robot vacuum on the market. In terms of design, functionality, and useability, I’ve found that the Roomba is at the top of every list. Now throw in the iRobot mop combo and it’s kind of magical.
Make sure you follow the initial setup instructions for registering, pairing, and syncing. Then you’re set to use one of the best executed functions on the Roomba, mapping. The other robot vacuums I’ve tried just can’t seem to get the mapping function right. The Roomba though, it learns your home’s layout and that’s especially important if you have carpet and hard floors since you have both the vacuum and mop in this Roomba. You can only create one map though, so keep that in mind.
And then the best part, it cleans! It actually sucks stuff up! You know, not like some robot vacuums that just push stuff around the house. It reminds of the old I Love Lucy episode where, “It slices, it dices…”…except the Roomba actually works. I’m sold on Roomba and as someone who hates vacuuming and mopping even more, I will never go back.

Works in a pinch
on November 3, 2023
Posted by: glspark2007
The Bella Pro Series Slim machine is one that does get the job done, but I wouldn’t say it delivers the greatest espresso. I guess you could say it’s meant for someone who maybe doesn’t have a lot of space for an espresso machine and/or is on a tight budget. In other words, it’ll get the job done if you really want espresso, but it certainly isn’t anything to write home about either.
As you would expect at this price point, it’s somewhat cheaply made. That’s especially reflected in the aesthetics and the function of the milk frother and filter. The filter is just hard to get in and out, irritating as you know, it’s kind of important. The frother doesn’t really get hot enough to do what it was designed to do. It makes the milk hot but it doesn’t give you a good froth like you’d want with espresso. The espresso itself actually is pretty good. As with any espresso machine, you need to get the hang of it, and you’ll probably make a couple of not so great cups to start with.
Like I said, it’ll do the trick if you need it to. However, I think there are much better options out there for not a lot more money. Obviously, you can spend a ton of money on espresso machines, but there are ones out there for a decent price that will do a better job.

Constant Wifi issues
on October 30, 2023
Posted by: glspark2007
To be perfectly honest, I’m getting more and more frustrated with HP printers, and this LaserJet is no exception. Although I love the idea of a laser printer because I don’t print a lot and want to save on ink, that’s only helpful if the printer actually prints. I’ll come back to this later. For now, initial setup was easy enough, and I do like the HP app since I can see printer information from my phone, scan from phone to printer, etc. The overall design is good in terms of size and aesthetics. And the initial connection to Wifi was simple. I do like the amount of control you have right on the printer touchpad for setup.
However, I’ve had nothing but trouble in getting the printer to STAY connected to Wifi. It says it’s connected but then I go to print from a device and it suddenly disconnects. I write this in the review because this is not the first HP printer I’ve experienced this problem with. It seems to be a design issue that has continued into their current run of printers, and it is beyond frustrating.
I contacted support but the issue has persisted. And as long as it does, I can’t recommend this printer.

Needs some work
on October 25, 2023
Posted by: glspark2007
Overall, I liked this facial hair remover. The head size was pretty good for removing hair from several parts of my face, particularly on the chin. However, I wish there were interchangeable heads, different sizes and possibly shapes that could be used for different parts of the face. For instance, the upper lip/under those nose area and around my temples and eyebrows. I have PCOS, so I was hoping this would help with some of those hard-to-reach places, but the head is too big to do that safely…meaning I didn’t want to risk taking out my eyebrows or cutting into my hairline. Philips sells other devices of different sizes like this. I would prefer to pay a little bit more and get more of an all in one device for handling all parts of my face.
When it came to actually removing the hair in places that could be reached with this particular head size (which is about the size of a quarter, maybe a little bigger), it worked pretty well. I did find I had to get the angle just right in a couple of places and go back over spots several times to get all of the hair. And every once in a while, it would catch a hair or two and pull, which was a bit uncomfortable. One thing I did really appreciate is the built-in light that comes on when you turn the device on. It makes it much easier to see the hairs and make sure you don’t miss a spot. It was also very easy to pop the head off and clean.
Overall, not my favorite, but it does work. I think this could have been done better though.

Laser = Worth the upgrade
on October 18, 2023
Posted by: glspark2007
I have always shied away from laser printers, simply because of the initial upfront cost. You can get an inkjet printer for so cheap these days. The catch with that of course is the cost of ink after you buy the printer. And if you print a lot…you need a lot of ink and out goes any savings you might have had buying an ink printer over a laser printer.
Other brands seem to be focused on making themselves more techy, rather than improving their products. The last few non-laser printers I’ve had have all had issues, all related to the ink cartridges or cartridge carrier. With all of those headaches, I decided I was finally ready to try laser, and I can tell you, now that I have, I won’t be going back.
This Brother printer is pretty big and definitely heavy, but how often do you move a printer once it’s set up anyway? It prints beautifully and it’s just so freaking fast! I can print 100 pages in the amount off time my ink printer would have taken to print 10 pages (that’s an estimate, don’t hold me to it, but it IS fast!) I don’t print a ton, so this will last a LONG time. The extra benefit of that is not only not having to worry about running out of ink but also that if the printer sits unused for a while, I also don’t have to worry about the ink drying up or clogging in the cartridges. When that happens, I either can’t print at all or end up with streaks and smudges on the pages.
I do wish there was an extra tray for paper (considering the size, seems like it could have been done). However, it’s a small thing and does not take away from the easy setup, low maintenance that is this printer. It’s worth it to pay a little more upfront to save a lot more later.

Exactly what you want
on October 14, 2023
Posted by: glspark2007
For those who may not know, the new iPhone 15 uses a USB-C to USB-C connection, eliminating Apple's proprietary lightning connection and making your phone much easier to charge. Also, if you haven't used USB-C for charging yet, well, it's nice. It's much faster than a standard USB connection and is becoming (if not quite there yet) the new USB standard.
With all of that in mind, this charger is exactly what you'd expect from a USB-C charger. It connects seamlessly with my iPhone (no warnings saying this product isn't compatible). Beyond all of that, my two favorite features are that 1) the outlet prongs fold in, to make the wall adapter more compact, good for travel, carrying in a purse or even just a pocket and 2) the braided/rope cord versus the plastic coating that cheaper cords have. Those wear out so fast and frankly, it's not worth paying less for those because you end up having to buy more of them over a shorter period of time.
It's a charger, it does what it should and is compact and sturdy. Very happy with it.

Lightweight comfort
on September 27, 2023
Posted by: glspark2007
Aside from the obvious need for good audio in the headphones and a good microphone, the main thing I look for in gaming headphones is comfort. Yes, there are other things like connectivity, app use, etc. but if they’re not comfortable to wear for long periods of time, I won’t be using them period, so the rest doesn’t really matter.
The first thing to note is how lightweight the RIG headphones are. The LOOK like they should weigh more than they actually do. It’s one of those things where you go to pick up something heavier and it kind of flies up in your hand because it was so much lighter than you expected. Right off the bat, that’s a huge plus. Heavy headphones are a no no for gaming. The ear pads are also big and extremely soft so they cushion your ears and head (rather than squishing everything together).
Now that we’ve established these are comfortable, let’s talk sound. Nope, these aren’t top of the line headphones, BUT the sounds is still clear and crisp, especially in the mid-range, which I think covers most of what you need in gaming. There was no distortion, even when turned up to a decently high volume. Make sure you use the Dolby Atmos app to get the best possible sound quality.
Battery life is great and I like the charging base that’s included. I have only tested these on a PC, not an Xbox, but I had no problems and am loving them!

Quality build
on September 20, 2023
Posted by: glspark2007
This is a nice mid-level gaming desktop. It doesn’t have top of the line everything, but it couldn’t at this price point, and that’s ok. It seems like quality pre-built gaming desktops are becoming more common and companies like Acer keep working to improve their offerings. For the most part, they didn’t skimp on the hardware and performance is strong and reliable. In some cases, the hardware used is not the newest generation (processor and graphics card), but they are still good products and I’m sure helped control cost. However, I really didn’t notice any lag when playing and was satisfied with the setup.
I’ve played on a lot of different gaming devices, from laptops to desktops. This Acer desktop is actually quite a nice setup without breaking the bank. It’s a beast that can handle pretty much anything you can throw at it. I think only more hardcore gamers would notice anything more, and let’s face it, this computer really wasn’t built for them. Despite the graphics card not being the absolute newest on the market, the GeForce RTX 3080 is not slouch. It has dedicated cooling and memory and makes the gaming experience pretty brilliant.
You can set this up straight out of the box, but of course you do need to supply your own monitor and speakers (and/or headphones). I have the following recommendations on peripherals to accompany this desktop: 1) don’t skimp on a monitor, get a good gaming monitor that can handle the power of the computer 2) buy a new gaming keyboard and mouse – there are some really nice ones from well known brands that I think will make a better accompaniment to the computer and give you a better gaming experience. However, as far as the Acer desktop goes, this is a quality pre-built gaming computer that will withstand just about anything the average gamer can throw at it.

Nice upgrade
on September 20, 2023
Posted by: glspark2007
The Yale Assure Lock 2 is a nice upgrade from their first foray into smart locks. I have the first Yale Assure Lock on my back door and added this new one to my front door. The first and most noticeable changes are the keypad on the new lock is a bit more compact and there is no keylock, it’s a keyless lock with several options for using it. This is both a pro and a con…more on that in a bit.
For installation, it’s pretty straightforward, you use the existing location for the deadbolt and replace with the hardware from Yale. App set up is also pretty simple and easy to follow. You do need to make sure everything is in tight and straight or you’ll have issues with the lock actually locking properly, plus you want it to look good aesthetically of course. Not having a key lock/key entry on this smart pad does give it a cleaner look but it also takes away a safety net. If the batteries in the smart lock die, you can’t use the app or the keypad to get it. There is a failsafe where you can use a 9-volt battery to unlock it, but that’s not exactly any easy thing to get your hands on, particularly if you’re outside, trying to get in. So, you get the cleaner, sleeker look, but just keep in mind that if your batteries in your lock die, your options are limited.
Other than the battery issue, everything else works smoothly with the app, Bluetooth connectivity, and the lock itself (touch screen, push button, etc.)

A 7.5W charging pad rapidly powers up a variety of iPhones, while a 5W magnetic charging module does the same for your Apple watch. This Belkin BOOST UP charging dock features a 5W USB-A port for charging compatible devices and comes with a compact AC adapter for quick installation.

Can the iPhone charge in the landscape position?

No, it has to be upright in the portrait position. It doesn't work in landscape, and the phone bumps into the charging location for the Apple Watch when in landscape anyway.
