Excellent storage upgrade
on September 20, 2023
Posted by: glspark2007
Right from the start, let me say that if you’re a person who loves to game and has a lot of space used already on your ROG Ally, this is an absolute must on upgrades. The Ally is already pretty compact, but Asus clearly planned ahead for expanded storage and made access/installation a pretty straightforward process. Combine that with the equally impressive products from Western Digital and you’re looking good.
WD offered two size options, 1TB or 2TB. I think for most gamers, the 1TB is probably sufficient. However, if you are a heavy gamer, have a lot of games in your rotation, or maybe just want to be safe, then go for the 2TB option. It’s obviously a little more expensive, but it’s an upgrade you’ll appreciate for a long time. I haven’t noticed any functionality issues since switching to the WD SSD. Although technically since this is a 2230 drive, the speeds aren’t necessarily as high, when used with the Ally, I honestly felt it was a pretty seamless transition and have not experienced any lag.
For me, the important pieces were all hit here: easy install, seamless integration with no lag, and of course the additional storage space. The Ally has already been pretty amazing, but the expanded storage space from WD just makes it that much better.

TKL for the win
on September 9, 2023
Posted by: glspark2007
Going into using this new Logitech, I had an inherent bias against the TKL (Tenkeyless) because frankly I’ve always preferred keyboards with them (I know, I know, I'm way behind here). I use the 10-key pad a lot…but not in gaming. I didn’t really think about it, I just had 10 key keyboards, despite not using that function while gaming. So, although this was a new (and probably late) experience for me, it was a good one for sure. I don’t use the 10-key when playing, so it is actually kind of an extra extension of the keyboard that isn’t necessary. I found that the more compact size of the keyboard (despite not sacrificing on any other functions) was a great match up with gaming because it makes for less fatigue over long sessions. It seems like a small thing, but I found that it truly does make a difference.
As far as the rest of the keyboard, it’s Logitech. In my view, no one beats them in gaming peripherals and the Pro X TKL is just another stellar example of that. And let’s keep in mind it’s wireless. That’s not always a plus in gaming but these days, wireless technology is pretty flawless and that was the case here. The keyboard synced up perfectly with zero delay. Between the TKL, lightspeed connection, and mechanical keys, you will not find a smoother experience in keyboards for gaming. Cannot recommend enough, freaking loving it.

Disappointed
on September 9, 2023
Posted by: glspark2007
I was very excited to try this Tablo because on paper, everything sounds great. I’m one of those cord cutters, and for the most part, I’ve been good with that decision and definitely don’t miss my cable bill. However, I miss watching some shows I had with cable (and don’t want to pay for another streaming service) and watching sports has been a bit of a challenge too. So, this sounded like a fantastic option. Also note that this Tablo does not include an antenna, that’s a separate item you’ll need.
So, here’s what I found and why I was ultimately disappointed. Setup of the actual device wasn’t too bad but the app was a pain and still really doesn’t function the way I expect it too. There are delays and glitches. I’ve had the app crash on my phone (using iOS) a couple of times. The Tablo itself has also crashed and has to restart each time that happens. That does not make for a smooth viewing experience at all.
While I love that the Tablo has two TV tuners to allow for multi viewing and/or recording, the device itself doesn’t seem to really be able to handle that much bandwidth. The TV guide is free and nice when it works, but it freezes and skips. The device comes with 128GB of storage which isn’t much these days. Bright side is, you can add an external hard drive for up to 8TB more storage. In theory, this is a great product, but I found it failed in several places on execution. If they can get the bugs worked out and everything running smoothly, then this will be worth it. Until then, not so much.

Not powerful enough
on September 7, 2023
Posted by: glspark2007
I really wanted to like this Ninja portable blender. I have a full size Ninja blender that I'm a big fan of and hoped for the same here. Unfortunately, that was not the case. I like making shakes and smoothies as meal replacements or snacks sometimes and it’s a pain to get out (and clean) the full size blender all the time for that, so this seemed perfect, and in theory it is. The problem is execution.
The size is great and it takes up hardly any space. I also like that it is portable (battery powered, no plug). But as convenient as that could be, I don’t feel like the blender holds up. First of all, I had to blend for several minutes to try to get rid of all of the chunks for fruit and ice. Even after several minutes, I was disappointed to find that I still had ice chunks in my smoothie. That’s a huge mark down for me. Plus, Ninja says you’re supposed to get 15 blends on a single charge. Maybe that’s true if you only use it for 30 seconds or so at a time. But because of all the extra blending time I needed, it doesn’t get anywhere near that much use on one charge (maybe half that).
There are a lot of options for smaller/individual use blenders and the Ninja sadly missed the mark for me and the main reasons that I wanted it.

Very nice but...
on September 7, 2023

As I’ve said in other reviews, I love the Technics line and feel like you know you’ll be getting quality with it. That is absolutely the case with theses earphones, but the difference here is, I also had the opportunity to try the model one step (half a step maybe?) below these (AZ60). Here’s the thing, there’s a noticeable price difference between this and the AZ60s, but not a huge difference in the specifications between the two.
The main difference is the driver size which is 8mm on the AZ60s and 10mm on these (AZ80). Yes, the larger driver size is meant to produce stronger sound waves. But keep in mind that every other spec between the two models is the same, plus the same features (noise canceling, water resistant, controls, app, etc.)
With all of the above in mind, these earphones produce excellent sound (calls are clear and crips and music is deep and almost seems to flow through you as you listen). They have a sleek design, easy setup/connectivity, and a cool app that works as expected. BUT all of that is offered in the AZ60 model as well. I have owned a lot of different speakers and headphones, and frankly, I really don’t hear much of a difference between the two models. With that in mind, these are fantastic earphones that produce the quality of sounds you’d expect from Technics, but I don’t think they are better or offer enough of an upgrade to the AZ60 to warrant the price difference. So, while I recommend the product itself, I would also recommend the AZ60 over these, the AZ80 model.

Technics = Quality
on August 28, 2023
Posted by: glspark2007
I love the Technics line. To me, when you see that name, you can expect a top-of-the-line, quality product. These Hi-Fi True Wireless Earbuds did not disappoint in that regard. First off, the design of the earbuds and case is modern and sleek. They just look good! As you would expect, pairing was simple and seamless with my fruit phone (you got that right?), no problems whatsoever.
Now onto the best parts, noise cancellation, comfort, and sound quality. Lots of brands talk about noise cancellation, but I felt like the Technics headphones took it to another level. I tried them out on a phone call and just listening to music with the TV on in the background. The TV was barely noticeable, even when turned up to a pretty decent volume. And yet, the earbuds were still comfortable, it didn’t feel like they were jammed in my ears for the noise cancellation to work. They sat very comfortably without concern that they might fall out, and there was no fatigue after several hours of use. The sound quality, well, it’s exactly what you’d want and expect from Technics. Crystal clear with deep, sonorous bass. Listening to music on these is SIMILAR to listening on my Technics turntable. The sound is just a little different, in the best possible way.

Hot computer
on July 14, 2023

This Asus gaming PC is pretty fantastic, and it is a great entry level gamer’s computer. If you’re not into building your own or simply want something ready to go out of the box, this will do the trick. First off, let’s just talk about aesthetics; I love the transparent panel that let’s you see the inner workings of the computer. That with the lighting is an excellent touch that you typically don’t see in factory produced computers, at least not at this price point.
Next up, hardware. It’s got an i7 core, hugely important to get the full effect and benefits have 16GB of RAM and gaming card. They all run together smoothly, providing a full gaming experience without lag. The one issue with hardware that I have is the fan/cooling. It’s loud and not as effective as I’d like. It’s a little funny to me that of all the places to lack, the fan is a simple component and yet so important to the maintenance and continuing performance of any computer, let alone a gaming PC. That’s the reason for the 4 stars. The fan can help preserve the rest of the computer for longer, so I’m not a fan of skimping there at all. That being said, there are of course options to replace. From what I can see (haven’t actually opened it up yet), there is room for a better an, so that’s something I’ll definitely be doing.
Overall, an excellent starter for the novice gamer. Disappointed by the fan’s lack of power and cooling, but overall still a great computer at a hard to beat price.

The cordless Dyson Gen5outsize has the suction power of a corded vacuum.¹ It has HEPA filtration for our deepest, most hygienic clean. It's engineered with the larger size, power, intelligence, and additional run time to deep clean larger spaces. It has a 25% wider cleaner head and 150% larger bin compared to the Dyson Gen5detect, as well as twice the run time. The Dyson Gen5outsize covers more floor with each pass and allows for more cleaning between bin emptying and charges. It intelligently optimizes suction power based on floor type and debris picked up.⁵ The LCD screen indicates when to keep cleaning an area and when to move on. The Fluffy Optic cleaner head reveals invisible dust on hard floors. The extra wide de-tangling Digital Motorbar XL cleaner head deep cleans carpets and hard floors without tangles. Its versatile cordless format transforms into a handheld vacuum with one click, and the wand detaches to reveal a ready-to-go tool for continuous cleaning. Comes with a 2-year warranty and lifetime Dyson support.

Pet hair beware
on June 14, 2023

The first description that came to mind for me when using this vacuum is that it’s mind blowingly impressive…which is ironic because you know, it does the opposite (it sucks things up if that wasn’t clear). Ok, terrible joke, moving on. But seriously, Dyson continues to show why (in my opinion) they are one of the best out there for superb quality vacuum cleaners.
I honestly can’t quite believe how effect the Outsize is. I have a German Shepard/Korean Jindo mix (yep, really), and she has a double coat, meaning she has two layers of fur…meaning she sheds a LOT. After giving her a bath, loose fur flies off of her for days and ends up all over my house. You can actually see layers of it in the carpet. The Dyson Outsize is a life saver in dealing with this. It gets it ALL, on hard floors, carpet, rugs, stairs, you name it. It’s almost effortless on my part because it just glides along but don’t let that fool you, the suction power is unmatched, particularly in any other cordless vacuums. I love cordless vacuums because I live in a house with stairs and lugging a corded vacuum up and down the stairs is an absolute nightmare.
My absolute favorite feature on the Outsize is the Auto feature that can sense if you’re vacuuming on carpet or hard floors, or if you have a particularly dirty spot on the floor. The suction power adjust accordingly, and I don’t have to do anything put keep pushing it. The price is high on this vacuum but think about what you get with it. It has a ton of accessories, which is it just me or is that becoming a rarity these days with vacuums? It has a wall mount, and it comes with two batteries. That’s huge by itself since yes, cordless vacuums do sometimes run out of power at the worst times. This way I can finish my chores by just switching the batteries out and keep doing my thing.
Dyson knocked it out of the park, nothing bad to say. And I’m not ashamed to say that I’m in love with my vacuum cleaner.

No pun intended on that review title, but it’s true. The Asus ROG Ally is really a new way to game. Yes, there are other handheld devices out there, but they aren’t like this. We tend to refer to our mobile phones as handheld computers…but when it comes to speed and power, they’ve got nothing on the Ally. Is it perfect? No. But hey, it’s the first try and it works and is pretty freaking amazing, so don’t count the Ally out because of a few bugs from early software updates. Does it take a little time to update and get up and running? Yep. But it is worth it once you finish and start playing.
So, from the unboxing to actual gameplay, yeah, there were some delays. A lot of updates needed right out of the box, but I’m glad the updates were out BEFORE I started trying to play. Once updated, this thing runs like…well like a gaming computer, which is basically what it is, but in handheld form. I was able to get just about any game I could think of, the same as I would on my PC. I didn’t experience any lag and man, that picture is crystal clear.
As far as comfort, I’ve played PC, Xbox, and Playstation, so I guess for me, it was that difficult to adjust to a new controller. I’d say it’s closest to an Xbox controller. It feels comfortable in your hands, all buttons are in good locations, you’re not stretching to reach anything. I do wish it was easier to distinguish between the bumper and trigger, you do have to be careful to not hit the wrong one during play. But otherwise, no complaints there.
I do want to talk price point for a minute as well. Because honestly, when I saw what the Ally price tag was, my initial thought was, WHY? Here’s why: as I mentioned, this is a computer. It’s not your typical handheld gaming device. It runs and plays like a gaming computer, except it’s totally portable. However, you’re also not tied to that, there are options to connect to a TV or computer if you want a more traditional gaming experience too.

Super fun!
on May 5, 2023
Posted by: glspark2007
Ok, this was my first experience with an e-bike, and I was admittedly a little nervous about it. First about the assembly, then actually riding it…I’m not exactly a cyclist or a biker and it’s been years since I rode a bike! In both cases, my fears were unnecessary. I was actually shocked out how easy assembly was… it was less work than the stationary bike I had to assemble a few years ago. I was incredibly relieved to find that the functional components (you know the breaks, cables, etc.) were already connected and ready to go out of the box. Had they not been, I may have felt the need to get assistance. But as I said, it was already done. The items that actually did need assembly were simple and straightforward.
Although it’s been a while since I rode a regular bike, I still remember it well enough to know this is really not all that much like it. It is like riding a bike in the sense that a little bit of balance is required and it has pedals. But it also has a throttle and you know, it’s electric. This thing moves! The wider, tougher tires are a good feature because it helps with balance and I feel confident that I’ll be able to successfully ride the bike through rougher terrain. I haven’t actually tried that yet. I’m getting used to the settings and gears first, learning the bike as I go to find out suits me and the area I’m riding in the best.
I can see this being an incredibly versatile option, you could potentially take it off road and have a great time but just as easily use it as a commute option (so long as there’s a bike lane). The one drawback though is it is quite heavy and doesn’t fold or break down in anyway to allow for easier transport or storage. That’s not enough to take away from the experience but it could be limiting in some situations. All of that being said though, holy crap did I have fun! I live off of a street that has a long stretch of road with new stop signs or traffic lights. I had a blast flying down that road while getting used to the bike. I felt like a kid again…except I never had anything like this when I was a kid!

No, it has to be upright in the portrait position. It doesn't work in landscape, and the phone bumps into the charging location for the Apple Watch when in landscape anyway.
