Good, easy to use and very convenient

For any/all iPhone owners, one of the biggest issues they have is with the charge/sync cable. It frays easily, sometimes breaks and, overall, it’s just not as sturdy as we would all hope. For the charging part, this charger does quite a nice job and there is no wear and tear on the OEM cable you received with your phone.
I have an iPhone XS Max and normally charge it every night with the OEM cable/AC plug the phone came with. Having used iPhones for quite some time, I’ve gone through my fair share of broken, frayed and lost cables. Seeing as the XS Max had wireless charging, I thought it was a great feature to take advantage of considering the issues with the OEM cables.
I have used wireless chargers before with my Note 8. Initially it was cool however the Samsung wireless charger was finicky. If you placed your phone on it incorrectly, even by a small amount, the phone wouldn’t charge, and you wouldn’t know this until the following morning. I had that same thought when using this charger however that doesn’t seem to be an issue with this Belkin charger. It’s has a small footprint so it shouldn’t take up too much room and there are rubber pads on the bottom to prevent the charger from sliding around too much.
To start, it’s not that hard to place your phone incorrectly in this thing. It’s vertical (my previous wireless charger was flat, so there’s only one way it can sit in the cradle. You can also place your phone horizontally in the charger however I generally keep mine in portrait orientation. I’m also using an Otterbox Symmetry case on my phone and there is no issue with using that case and this charger. I believe it will work with cases up to 3mm thick? I could be wrong but I’m pretty sure most “normal” cases should work with this charger.
Charger does work pretty fast. I normally charge my phone at bedtime and I simply place my iPhone in the cradle and, next morning, it’s fully charged. Last I checked I think I got about 20% charge after 10-15 minutes or so? I think that’s fine so no issues there for me. I read another review here about a user complaining this charger caused touchscreen issues with the phone. I was a bit hesitant to use this however, after a week or so of use, I don’t see any issues with the display or touch screen sensitivity.
Overall, it’s a very convenient charger for your nightstand or office desk. You simply plop it into the cradle to charge and pick it up whenever you’re ready to go. No more plugging/unplugging the charger into your phone so it’s very easy and convenient.

Best headphones? Enter Player 3 – Jabra Elite 85h
on April 22, 2019
Posted by: LouRevue
from Washington, DC
Normally Jabra hasn’t been a key player in a headphone market recently dominated by Bose and Sony. Jabra’s recent wireless 65t earbuds though put them in contention for a new player in the headphones space. As far as wireless earbuds go, I think the 65t’s are one of the best all-around earbuds on the market currently. So, when these 85h over-the-ear headphones came out, I figured it was definitely something to check out, especially since these were being classed in the category as the Sony MX3s and Bose QC35s. Jabra says they’re better than the others but are they really?
To start, I own both the Sony MX3s and QC35s. Of the two, the MX3s are my favorite, overall, as they have better noise cancelling, sound and slightly better battery life; the added earcup controls are a nice little bonus as well. So, now it’s time to see how the 85h’s compare to the other two headphones.
IN THE BOX: You get the headphones in a very nice carrying case with a velvety interior, airplane adapter, 3.5mm cable (really short) and a USB-C charging cable (also really short).
FIT: Of the three headphones, the QC35 fit the best. While the 85h do fit well, they are a tad on the snug side for my tastes. That said, I’ve been wearing them for the past 3-4 hours and no discomfort at all. Also to note, I have a big head so pretty much all over-the-ear headphones are going to feel snug. With the other headphones, I usually have to extend the arms most of the way to get it fit well. These 85h’s I have to pull the arms out all the way just to get it to fit.
NOISE CANCELLING: The MX3’s win here. They do a fantastic job with ANC and block out a lot of exterior noise. The 85h’s, however, are a close second. With the snug fit of the headphones, the ANC does a pretty good job at blocking out external noises better than the Bose but not quite good as the Sony’s. I’d put the noise cancelling feature a very close second to MX3’s.
SOUND: MX3’s win here. The extra bass the Sony’s have add that stiff punch to bass notes that the Bose and Jabra just doesn’t have. Even with the EQ pumped up, there isn’t that oomph you want when listening to EDM, Hip-Hop, Metal, etc. However, if you listen to other types of music like vocal, instrumental, classical then the 85h are probably a better fit regarding sound. Aside from deep bass notes, the mids/highs are crisp and clear. Really depends on what type of music you listen to so it’s kind of a draw across the board in my opinion. Since I listen to more bass heavy music, the MX3 do it for me. With the Jabra app, you can fine tune the EQ to your liking and save presets as needed for your headphones. There is also an AI component to the sound where 4 of the 8 mics on the headphone pick up and analyze where you are and how noisy it is and switches the headphone setting to optimize sound and battery life. For example, if you’re at home and it’s quiet, it’ll shut off the noise cancelling. Or if you’re in a subway and it’s super noisy, it’ll switch the ANC on. There is also a hear-through setting where you can hear outside noises while playing your music. There is a similar feature on the MX3’s so it’s interesting and a nice feature.
BATTERY: Honestly, this really isn’t a huge factor for me. I believe the QC35’s have the lowest battery life and the MX3/85h tout 32+ hour battery life. I’ve never gotten any headphone down to more than 20% battery so, for me, this really isn’t an issue since all three are relatively the same in this aspect.
VOICE ASSISTANT: I don’t really use this feature on any device I have so it’s not a huge concern for me. However, with most headphones, you’ll either get compatibility with Alexa OR Google OR Siri but never all of them. The 85h allows you to use any of them depending on what device you’re paired to. You’re only able to setup the headphones with one assistant at a time however you’re not limited to having headphones only being compatible with Google Assistant or just Amazon Alexa. I’ve tested this with my iPhone XS Max and it works as expected. There are 8 mics on these headphones, 2 of which (I think) are dedicated to for the voice assistant feature. Just say Hey Alexa/Google/Siri and it works. No issues here so far.
ODDITIES: There’s no power button on these. Had to read the manual to find this out. Basically, you turn the earcups flat to turn them off. Not sure if I like this feature honestly. If you accidentally take your headphones off and hang them around your neck, the cups will kind of turn flat and you may shut off your headphones inadvertently. And if you’re like me and put your headphones on stands, the headphones will stay on.
There are three buttons on outside of the right earcup; volume up/down and play/pause button. The MX3 has a feature like this but are touch/swipe and that I do like. The 85h controls don’t seem quite as refined and seem like they were put there as an afterthought. I might get used to them over time however, for this feature, I prefer the MX3 implementation.
OVERALL: The 85h are a great set of cans for anyone looking to get an upgraded/higher end set of headphones. With the MX3/QC35 being in the $350 range, that might be a damper for most people looking to pick up new headphones. The 85h come in at $300 which might be a little easier to swallow. You can find the other two headphones slightly lower than retail however, the price point for the 85h should be a nice selling point. Considering that, the features and performance of the 85h are on par with the other two headphones. Might not be as good in one area compared to the others but I think they perform really well and are worth the buy if you’re in the market for a nice pair of higher end headphones.

OK but not really Sony quality
on April 12, 2019
Posted by: LouRevue
from Washington, DC
I'm a pretty big Sony fan, particularly their headphones. I have the XB41 bluetooth speaker which is really nice. This little dainty thing was more of a curiosity then anything else. Figured I'd give it a try.
First off is the size, obviously. It's pretty small. Almost half the size of a can of soda. Easily fits in the palm of you hand so it's very portable. As far a weight, not very heavy at all so, again, very portable.
Battery life I haven't really tested yet but it says 16 hours on a full charge. Most of the Sony products I have are pretty much on par with what's listed so I see no reason to doubt this claim.
Sound, the big part is OK. While this is labeled as extra bass, I don't think it's quite up to par with other Sony products that have Extra Bass. The headphones I have all have really nice thumping bass. This one is just OK. Granted it's pretty small, I would've liked/expected a bit more punch out of it than what it has now. Sound isn't really good unless you crank up the volume on this speaker. WHEN the volume is cranked up, it does sound OK. For use around the pool or the beach, I think this would fit in nicely as it's portable and provides decent sound, not great.
Probably the biggest gripe is the price point. For around $60, I would've expected a bit better sound and punchier bass. Something like the XB12, in my opinion, should be around the $40 price point. It's OK but not great for what it is. It does OK so I think it should be priced more in line with that. I'm sure this will go on sale at some point in the future so it'll be a better buy then.
If you want something for the road or to play at the beach or something, you'd be better off just getting a cheaper speaker. This one either should be a bit better in sound or lower in price.

Great sound but is SuperAmp needed?

I've been using the Sony Gold headset for some time now and, while decent, definitely wanted to update and check out some newer models out there. I play FPS mostly and, more recently, RDR2.
Fit - Overall fit of this headset is quite good. I have a larger sized head so, generally, most headsets don't fit quite that well. These fit snugly, but comfortably, on my head. I do feel a bit of a pinch at the top of my head however nothing too bad. The ear cushions are quite soft and comfy and they haven't felt heavy or cumbersome even after doing my all my weeklies in Destiny 2.
Sound - Typical Turtle Beach. I can hear just about everything while playing Destiny 2 from the footsteps of enemy combatants to water droplets splashing from rooftops. Sound is clear and crisp. I did tend to notice almost an echoing sound when cinematics played and NPC were talking. Kinda weird but it seems to come and go. Not sure what the issue is. I was quite impressed with the surround sound. Most of my headsets have been stereo or "surround" sound but not really. For example, when walking past a flaming car/building, you can easily tell which direction the object is as you walk past/around/near. Quite nice and pretty cool actually.
Wires - My Sony headset was wireless so it's really convenient and a simple flick of a switch, the headset is up and running. With these being wired, it's a little bit more cumbersome and depending on how your setup, the wires can be a bit of a pain. If you're using this with a PC then it shouldn't be too much an issue since you can hide the wires. Having this setup with my PS4, when using the SuperAmp controller, I have a USB cable lying on my floor while using this. Not the greatest thing but it is what it is.
SuperAmp - While this seems like a cool gadget, I don't really see the benefit of this device. It's a volume knob with a couple inputs in it....that's it. It lights up and all but it's just a volume knob. Would've been nice if the mic mute button was on the amp however it's located inline on the headset cable.
Setup - You can have this setup using just the 3.5mm cable plugged directly into your PS4 controller. Works just fine however volume needs to be adjusted via the controller menu as there are no volume knobs/sliders on the headset itself. With the SuperAmp/optical cable hooked up, it's a mess of wires however it does seem to work well and the sound it quite nice. The headset is bluetooth so you can also use it if you're making conference calls or something like that.
Overall, this works great for PC/PS4. If you're a stickler for that clean look then you'd be better off hooking this up to your PC. While I'm still on the fence about the SuperAmp, it seems cool but not really for me. Sound quality is great regardless of what type of games you play. Surround sound is pretty nice.

Decent, sturdy looking cable
on March 12, 2019

A cable is a cable for the most part. However, with iPhone cables I think we can all agree that they're quite flimsy at times. I've gone through quite a few even through normal use so having a sturdier, beefy cable is probably a sound investment. These seem to be up to the task. Connections seem reinforced and beefy so hopefully they won't break apart like OEM cables seem to do. Haven't had any issues with charging/data transfer with these either. Only time will tell if these hold up over repeated use. I think they should so here's hoping they last longer.

Good, all-around headset

Pretty good headset for gaming. I used these on my PS4 and the sounds quality is quite impressive. The large speakers give good sound quality and a pleasant thump on those explosions and machine gun fire. I was playing some RDR2 and COD: Modern Warfare and the headphones sounded pretty good.
Headphones come as shown along with a splitter. They have a good weight and can be used for long periods without any discomfort. For those with big heads like me, these fit just fine with no pinching at the top like some other headphones do. I used these on my PC as well and sound better simply due to the fact I'm able change EQ settings. Other then that, they work just great on either console or PC.
These are wired so sometimes you'll hear some vibrations from the cord if you move around. Would've been nice if these were bluetooth but, considering the price, I think these are great for all around use.

Powerful and stylish microwave
on January 22, 2019
Posted by: LouRevue
from Washington, DC
I'm a terrible cook so I pretty much eat food cooked in a microwave all the time. I previously had a smaller, low power microwave. It did the trick but wasn't the greatest due to it's small size and low power. It was a 0.7 cubic foot, 900 watt microwave. Needless to say, this one is significantly larger and more powerful. Just from this alone, it took a bit getting used to. Normally, with my older microwave, if I was cooking something that said to cook it for 3 minutes, I'd have to cook it for 5 in my older microwave. This habit is kind of hard to break.
This Panasonic Prestige Plus is pretty much the last (hopefully) microwave I'll ever need. It's powerful and I can put much larger leftover bowls. Cooking time is much less now since this is a 1250 watt microwave. This thing cooks quite evenly which my older microwave did not. Cooking soup or TV dinners, the food is evenly cooked however I noticed the bowl gets much hotter than before. I managed to defrost some steaks as well which went pretty smoothly. My older microwave couldn't even do this.
To be honest, this thing has so many features that I haven't even been able to use them all. It's quite robust in that respect so this is more than just a microwave in my opinion. One of the drawbacks to this the touch panel. Most microwaves I've seen usually have some text on the buttons so you know what it does. This one does not. I had to read the instruction manual to figure out what the buttons do so, over time, I'll get the hang of it. Other thing to keep in mind is that this microwave is pretty big. It's almost twice the size of my older one so you'll need to have a large space to put this thing in. Fortunately, i have a stand alone cabinet which just happened to be big enough to place this thing on to.
While this isn't for most peoples needs, I think it;s a great appliance to have. For those people, like me, that use microwaves religiously, having a top end microwave really helps out in the long run.

Dell quality and versatile AIO computer
on December 7, 2018
Posted by: LouRevue
from Washington, DC
I wanted a desktop when I work from home however I didn't want the typical screen/tower combo. I was looking for an AIO and this one seemed to fit the bill.
The screen is quite spacious and crisp. Touchscreen works quite well however I'm not certain how often I'll use this feature. Built-in speakers on the bottom of the screen are quite loud so no issue with sound here.
The camera is a bit odd in that it's recessed at the top of the top and can be opened by clicking on it which will spring it up. Took me awhile to find it but sorta cool. With the spacious 27" screen, conference calls seem to be a bit more nicer I think.
As far as specs, I think it's quite a a solid setup. The i7 processor is speedy enough for my needs. I don't do any picture/video editing so I can't comment on performance. I mainly use this for "standard" work duties. 1TB hard drive is spacious as well however it seems a tad slow. I'm debating on swapping the HD out for a SSD just to speed things up. 12GB of RAM is plenty enough for virtually any task and multitasking doesn't seem to be an issue here. I believe the RAM can be upgraded to 32GB max however, I don't particularly see an immediate need to max out the RAM.
This has your standard slots/ports however the USB slots are 2.0. Would've been nice to have them 3.0. As far as ports, this pretty much has you covered on most, if not all, of them.
The keyboard/mouse that came with this is OK. I will definitely be swapping these out for something a little more ergonomic but, eh, they were included.
There isn't too much bloatware on this aside from the normal Dell/MS stuff. Unistall McAfee and the Office trial and you should be set.
Great little setup

Surprising power in such a small unit
on November 19, 2018
Posted by: LouRevue
from Washington, DC
I've used numerous handheld vacs before but all of them seem to come up short in the power/suction department. Corded ones are great however I mainly use these handheld vacuums for cleaning my truck. As such, I was a bit leery of the power on such a small vacuum.
I have carpeting in truck cab as well as the occasional dog hair. I figured if this vacuum could clean that up, I'd be happy. After a full charge, I was quite surprised at the suction power of this vacuum. It cleaned up embedded dog hair quite well, not perfect, but well enough for "clean". The crevice tool works great at getting dirt under the seat as well as the rogue french fry. Pretty happy with the performance of this.
Only downside is the the battery doesn't last too long. The vacuum charges up pretty quick however it also goes through power pretty fast as well. I'm able to clean most of my truck cab but not all of it.

Great electric toothbrush

I've previously used an Oral-B as my toothbrush however mine recently died after a good 7 year run. Having used the Sonicare, I can say that it does clean much better than my Oral-B did. It just feels like your teeth are so clean and fresh which is always nice. Charging dock is a tad weird but works well. My Oral-B had a dock with a little post where you would place the handle back onto whenever you were done. The cup thing just seems weird plus it'll get filled with gunk in no time. My only cause for concern is this things longevity. My Oral-B lasted a long time (by toothbrush standard) and I was bit bummed when it did. I'm hoping this toothbrush will last just as long, if not longer, than my previous one did.

Excellent laptop for everyday use
By LouRevue from Washington, DC
Having had the chance to use this laptop, I must say it’s quite an impressive model for almostn any use. With an abundance of features housed in a sleek, stylish body, it’s a solid laptop for anyone in the market for a new/replacement laptop.
Using a 7th gen i5 dual core processor, the laptop functions on par with just about any laptop in its price range. With 8GB of RAM (12GB max) and a 1TB hard drive, it offers plenty of speed and room for all your files and enough power/speed to perform almost any task.
As far as the aesthetics go, this is an impressive looking laptop with clean lines, brushed aluminum cover and beveled edges. It’s a very nice looking laptop no doubt and the design, overall, is quite appealing. It comes with a full size keyboard as well as backlit keys which is a nice touch. Only gripe with the keyboard are the arrow buttons as the Up/Down buttons are smaller due to keyboard layout. The power button is on the right side of the laptop which is a bit unique as well as a dedicated volume button. There are 2 USB 3.0 ports as well as 1 USB 2.0 port, HDMI, SD Card and USB-C port. There is no CD drive for anyone wondering. The laptop (closed) is only about ¾ inch tall however it’s a bit wider than most due to the full size keyboard.
Power/performance. Using a dual-core processor I was under the impression this would be relatively slow and have choppy performance when opening multiple programs. Being this is the latest gen processor from Intel, this is not the case. Opening 2-3 programs at once was done with relative ease and switching between them was pretty flawless. The 8GB RAM comes in quite handy here and even with a 5400 RPM HDD, this laptop was able to perform tasks with very good speed. Battery life is pretty good. Using it “normally” and leaving it on for about 5-6 hours, there was about 50% battery left. Also, one very noteworthy benefit to this laptop, it doesn’t get that hot when left on for long periods of time which is VERY nice.
The display is probably the most impressive feature on here. A full 1080p display is quite vibrant and displays bright and dark colors extremely well. Those wanting to watch Netflix/Hulu will have no issues with the display. In addition to visuals, the sound from this laptop is equally impressive. For watching movies or just playing music, the speakers on this laptop deliver quite nicely without too much reverberation or distorted sound.
One of my initial thoughts of this being a 2-in-1 was that the tablet was an afterthought/gimmick. Having used previous 2-in-1 laptops, I was expecting the tablet functionality to be quite lackluster. Again, this was not the case. In this unit, you have, both, a well built laptop as well as tablet on-the-go device. Once in tablet mode, the screen orients itself to that of a normal tablet using Windows Tiles. Touch sensitivity is surprisingly smooth and using paint programs worked well without any lag or drops in sensitivity. Using the tablet form works really well when you want to sit back and watch videos or movies. Very nice.
A couple concerns with this laptop were;
The hard drive. While it’s a large 1TB drive, I would’ve expected something, at least, in the 7200 RPM range. Being fast enough for normal business related tasks, anyone wanting to use this laptop for video editing or other processor intensive jobs might find it to be a bit slow. This can easily be remedied by replacing the HD for a faster spindle drive or a SSD. However it would’ve been nice to have a tad faster hard drive here.
The keyboard, for me, took a bit getting used to since I have previously used standard laptop keyboards without the number pad. This is a personal preference so nothing against the design. Just noting that those of you used to that type of laptop keyboard, there will be a bit of learning curve involved however I think the addition of the number pad is great thing and should be standard on all laptops.
While the brushed aluminum case is aesthetically appealing, I’m a little concerned about it getting scratched/dinged from normal use or if when you’re changing it to be used as a tablet. This is the case with some laptops that use this metal casing so just something to be aware of.
Overall, this is an impressive laptop, reasonably priced with enough up-to-date technology that will last you for several years to come. Being that it’s a 2-in-1, it’s an added bonus which allows you to use this device in ways you should be able to do and with relative ease. There is some bloatware included (this should be no surprise) so make sure to uninstall/delete the stuff you don’t need. Aside from a somewhat slow hard drive, the other features on this laptop more than make up for it. Very nice buy for a new work laptop or student.

Bloatware?
January 17, 2017
It took a bit of time to setup my laptop as well. Have you tried uninstalling the bloatware on this laptop? I did and I don't have any issues with boot speed or anything else on my laptop.

Can an owner of the original non active 65t comment on the fit and stability difference with the active version? Curious if that and the extra IP rating is worth a look, or negligible.

I own both the active and regular 65T's and I don't see any noticeable difference between them. Aside from the IP rating, there's really not much difference. Both fit exactly the same and fit pretty snugly in the ear.

Brighten your day and night with this Philips Being Hue ceiling light. The dimming function lets you set an ambience for different moods, and it works with the Philips Hue dimmer switch and mobile app for versatile control. The ZigBee technology of this 32W Philips Being Hue ceiling lamp provides smooth, efficient interoperability with multiple Hue lighting units.

Can this light be controlled by a existing wired wall switch? I plan to replace the light that is already there with this one, but I would prefer to use the wired switch.

Yes you can...that's what I did. One thing to note is that the light won't come on immediately like your current light fixture does. There's a second or two delay after you flip the switch. I'm planning on replacing the switch with a dimmer switch so maybe that will correct the delay.

What is the return policy if I dont like the phone?

Depends on the carrier. I know AT&T has a 14 day return policy. Ask your carrier rep to see how long their return period is.

can i use the samsung note 2 in africa right after buying.

Only if you have the international unlocked version (the N7100 model) All other models will be tied to a carrier. You can still use those phones in Africa however you'll get hammered with roaming charges.

Does Samsung upgrade its android smartphone OS as soon as a new one is released? (4.1 Jelly Bean to the soon to be released 5.0 Key Lime Pie).

No. Samsung has its own UI built in (TouchWiz) so whenever a new OS comes out, Samsung won't release the update until they've adjusted their TouchWiz to work with the new OS. Judging from previous releases, new updates are generally released 4-6 months after a new OS has been released.
