John Guillermin's World War II film The Bridge at Remagen comes to DVD with a widescreen transfer that preserves the original theatrical aspect ratio of 1.85:1. English, Spanish, and French soundtracks are rendered in Dolby Digital Mono. Spanish and French subtitles are accessible, and the English soundtrack is closed-captioned. Supplemental materials include the original theatrical trailer and a collectible booklet. This is a solid release from MGM/UA that should be of interest especially to genre enthusiasts.

Guns Up!

A true story based from the second world war, but this movie is far from any classic WW2 movie I have ever seen. The scenes from the beginning of the movie with the Sherman Convoy was unbelievably realistic. The battle was looked upon from both the American's view and the German's view. It seemed like 90% of the film was one big firefight both from small arms exchange and artilery. Both at the beginning credits and thruout the movie the music went well with the time and engagements. Not any extreme violence, in my opinion, but there was some skin shown in one scene. Other than that I'd strongly recomend this film to anyone.
What's great about it: Great price for such a great film!
What's not so great: Nobody has seen this movie yet!
I would recommend this to a friend!

With this two-disc set, Fox has created a special edition of The Towering Inferno that is equal to their stellar work on their two-disc special edition of The Poseidon Adventure. The anamorphic, letterboxed image transfer is excellent, capturing the film's distinctive blend of nocturnal shadows and bright flames with clarity and eye-popping color. Both 4.0 and 2.0 Dolby Stereo mixes are provided and each offers a robust, well-mixed soundscape for the viewing experience. Also included on the first disc is a pair of commentaries. The first is a feature-length track helmed by film critic F.X. Feeney; despite the film's daunting length, Feeney offers a nonstop barrage of fascinating comments that cover everything from behind-the-scenes detail to the critical analysis of the filmmakers' visual choices. The second track is a scene-specific affair helmed by FX man Mike Vezina and stunt coordinator Branko Racki; both offer their thoughts on the technical aspects of the film's impressive effects and stunt set pieces. It isn't as entertaining as the Feeney track but is worthwhile for those interested in the nuts-and-bolts aspects of doing such scenes. Disc two is entirely devoted to extras. An episode of AMC Backstory devoted to The Towering Inferno kicks things off and does a solid job of telling the story behind the film in just over 20 minutes. More detail is provided via a series of newer featurettes that focus on different aspects of the film; highlights include a segment on the effects and photography techniques used to create the illusion of a giant glass tower and a segment on how the many fire-oriented stunts were choreographed. Elsewhere, there is a collection of vintage promotional shorts, including a funny piece done for the National Association of Theater Owners by Irwin Allen himself and a 1977 interview with Allen. Fans will also be interested to see 30 extended and deleted scenes used in the TV version of The Towering Inferno on this disc; they are presented full-frame and it's obvious why most were cut, but fans who grew up on the TV version will be glad to have them. Rounding out the second disc are a trio of articles written for American Cinematographer, a comprehensive collection of still and art galleries, trailers, and a set of storyboard-to-scene comparisons. As if that all wasn't enough, the physical packaging of the disc throws in a set of postcard-sized still reproductions and a miniature reprinting of the film's press book! In short, this is a staggering package for fans of The Towering Inferno and offers plenty of bang for the buck, just like the film it contains.

Blazing Entertainment

Blazing entertainment at it's finest! The plot was amazing and so was the long cast of famous actors of that era. Definatly got that 70's vibe and it even had the King of Cool himself, Steve McQueen. Which is enough reason to get the movie alone, in my oppinion. It's a mixture of suspense and classy drama all packed into an action film. Everytime I thought they were safe and out of danger another challenge presented itself and it kept going on and on right into the end of the film. I heard Steve McQueen did all or most of his own stunts too including the elevator scene? Wow, I'd strongly recomend this movie to anyone.
What's great about it: Steve McQueen
What's not so great: disk scratches easily

Mel Gibson stars in the heroic action film We Were Soldiers. The film is presented in 2.35:1 anamorphic widescreen, and Paramount has done a great job of making sure this transfer is bright, clean, and clear of any defects or imperfections. The colors and black levels are all very well saturated and crisp, making this a very pleasing transfer. The soundtrack is presented in Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround EX in English. This is a great surround sound mix that features tons of explosions, gunfire, and other effects rocketing around the viewer's head. Without any distortion or hiss in the mix, fans who own a surround sound system should be very pleased with this 5.1 track. Also included on this disc are English and French subtitles, plus a Dolby Digital 2.0 Surround mix in English. While not chock-full of extra feature, this DVD edition of We Were Soldiers includes a few well produced supplements starting with a commentary track by producer/writer/director Randall Wallace. This is a very insightful commentary track that features stories and anecdotes about the production of this brutal war drama. "Getting it Right" is a nearly half hour featurette about how the filmmakers tried for pure authenticity in the movie. This is a very intelligent and informative look behind-the-scenes of We Were Soldiers. Finally there are ten deleted/extended scenes with optional commentary by the director, each allowing the viewer a rare glimpse at what was cut from the final film. Surprisingly, the theatrical trailer for the film is missing from this disc.

Sad But True

I usually chose not to buy " Vietnam Era " movies as they were allways overly macho with the action and passion scenes and allways made a mockery of what really happened and what our guys really went thru. But this movie, I am proud to say, came from the heart and focused on what really happened in that engagement both from the soldier's view and the NVA's view. The special effects and sound was amazing thruout the film as was the acting and the location. I would have to say this was one of the finest role's Mel Gibson has ever played. The movie was a sad one though especially at the end, but it was a true story. I'd recomend this film to anyone!

The classic Lethal Weapon series follows the unique friendship between two cops with very different crime-fighting methods. Mel Gibson and Danny Glover star.

Lethal Entertainment

All four of these movies were lethal entertainment! I'd have to say " Lethal Weapon 2 " was my personal favorite, but they all were equally funny and action packed to the limit. There wasn't as much violence as there was language, but alot of '' adult '' humor thruout all of the movies. Definatly not a family film, but if you can take a little '' questionable '' humor and language I'd strongly recomend these films as they are loads of laughs and highly affordable.
What's great about it: Affordable price for all four movies!
What's not so great: Disk's scratch easily

Marine 2

The title of this film should be " Ranger " not " Marine ". The lead actor, in my opinion, didn't have what it takes to portray a true US Marine. The plot was a basic " action film " job, but with less graphic scenes than is usually expected. I liked the fact that it was something everyone could watch no skin or gory violence shown. The price was affordable too which is allways a plus! I'd recomend this movie to anyone looking for some good, clean entertainment at an affordable price.
