Nice Little Speaker With One Minor Issue
on September 5, 2018
Posted by: Posted1
from Niwot CO
I just received the LG PK7 from Fed Ex. The box was a little heavier than I expected, but with speakers, that's generally a good thing. On opening the box, the speaker was well packaged yet easily accessible. In the box, in addition to the speaker, was a small box underneath that had the charging chord and the usual obligatory warning and set up sheet. In all, the unit had the typical quality we have come to expect from LG consumer grade equipment. This did not disappoint.
OK, here is where the one minor issue comes... As I stated above, it came with a charging cable, not the usual USB I have come to expect with all of my other wireless products. The problem (and yes, I get it, it IS a minor issue) is that if you are traveling, this is yet another cable you need to pack instead of using the almost universal USB chord that you use to charge your phone, earpiece, headphones et al. Is it a deal breaker? No, not even close, just a minor inconvenience.
The speaker is now removed and plugged in, I let it fully charge. Only took an hour to get the battery charged. Powered the unit up and it came right up and was automatically in pairing mode. It paired immediately and I was off and running. I tested it with "5 Finger Death Punch" "The Bleeding" and the sound was really good for a portable unit. Honestly, it was one of the best portable speakers I have heard for sound quality. The bass was impressive, the mids were clean and solidly separated from the equally clean highs. I am not a self described audiophile but as a father of 2 busy active kids who were splashing in the pool, the sound was great.
And the kids splashing in the pool brings me to the next nice feather. The speaker is IPX5 weather resistant. Please remember, this does NOT equate to "water proof", but it is splash resistant. I was perfectly confident in setting it on the pool deck and had no worries the several times it got splashed. It took it like a trooper. Nice feature.
The unit also comes with two features that are interesting but maybe just slightly more than a gimmick. One feature is a "Clear Vocal" button that probably adds a little something, but after toggling on and off a few times, I could tell a difference but not overly definable. The other feature is an :Enhanced Bass" button that I also tested. I could tell a little more defined difference between when it was on and off. In the end, I left them both on because, why not?
As I was testing the music, my wife called and I took the call on this unit. The sound on my end was great. Very crisp and clear. At the end of call, I asked her how it sounded on her end. She said it was pretty good but I sounded a little bit "distant". Considering that I was about 6 feet from the speaker the entire conversation, that's honestly pretty impressive. I called her back when I was closer and she said it sounded great.
Another "interesting" feature is the LED that beats and pulses with the music. To be honest, its kind of cool, but can get tiresome when just sitting there in front of you. That said, I think it could be a pretty fun feature in a party or social gathering environment. That said, my kids absolutely LOVED it, so I have to mention that in an effort to be fair in my review. The good news, there is a solution...
Make sure you download the "Music Flow Bluetooth" ap. Using the ap, you can not only turn the LED on and off, but you can also adjust the pattern / color scheme so that's a nice inclusion. Again, the kids loved messing around with it so in all, a cool feature.
One final feature it has is the "Dual Play" option that allows you to connect a second LG PK7 in order to play in true stereo. While I can't vouch for or comment on the efficacy of the feature, I did find it important to mention.
End of the day, it's a really nice, large Bluetooth speaker that will work for the active family at the pool, beach, camping, fishing or other busy outdoor activities. Other than the power chord bummer, its a very good option. I would certainly recommend it to a friend

Very Good Depending On Your Needs
on August 30, 2018

from Niwot CO
Truth be told, this is my first foray into any Jabra product so I came in with no predisposition whatsoever. My initial thoughts, it certainly looks and feels like a quality product Has nice tactile feel and feels of good material. It's lightweight yet feels solid and substantial.
In the box you'll find the headset / mic that has a standard 3.5 mm headset chord, the 3.5 female to USB adapter to hook up to soft-phone on computer and a small carry bag, for what that's worth. Everything fit into the case easily and my 13 year old daughter really liked the black on the outside and orange on the inside. Also included are the quick start guide and the obligatory but almost never read "Warning and Declarations" book.
All right, lets put them to work... They are comfortable on the ear and the boom mic has a nice magnetic feature to hold the mic when in the full "up" position.
Our (my 13 y/o was my official assistant tester) first test was plugged into a Samsung S8 with a live call to a land line. The sound quality of the stereo headset was crisp and clean. The mic delivered accurate and crisp sound as well. For a phone headset, it's perfect. My daughter liked the fact that she could use her phone aps while talking on the phone. She also liked the fact that the headset did not cover the full ear, thus allowing her to still hear when mom or dad hollered at her or the dogs barked in the yard.
Our next test was listening to 5 Finger Death Punch on a Google Pixel 2. To be fair, the sound was not bad, but it is certainly not anywhere near our Sony or Beats full ear noise cancelling headsets. And to be honest, that is not a fair comparison so I will give them a solid 4 on music sound. Really good, especially for what they are, but for pure musical enjoyment, there are more robust (and expensive) options.
Our final test was from my PC using Skype to make a call to the Pixel 2 on Google Project Fi cell network. Again, they did a yoemans job and delivered above expectation. Here is where I have an opportunity for improvement... The adapter from 3.5 mm to USB did include volume * / -, mute and phone control buttons in-line. I would have preferred to also have those options for the 3.5 connector.
In all, I think these are a great option for long-term phone use and certainly capable to double as a music / TV headset. in all honesty, a very nice choice if you need a wired unit that can work both on 3.5 mm and USB platforms. These will provide quality sound, mic and all day comfort.I would certainly recommend them to a friend.

It Adds What I Didn't Know Was Missing

These are great, especially compared to our previous single speaker headset.
The build quality is pretty dang goo and the user comfort is outstanding. As for sound, a major upgrade. Even using a non-Dolby Atmos enabled game, the sound "moved" in your ears as if you were actually "there". Now here is where it gets cool... We popped in a Dolby Atmos game and... Wow, it was really cool. As mentioned in title, the Atmos added a layer of sound that really brought life to sound that I didn't even know was possible.
We were able to test the mic and according to the people we usually play with, they said it did seem slightly more crisp. I really like the mute feature of just flipping the mic up. Much easier than fumbling for a button.
The volume control is also pretty cool. Its a simple dial and it is positioned in a way that its not in the way but its easy to get to.
In all, I really like these and would give them a 5 star rating if they were wireless. But hey, for the price they are great.

It Fits Our Need Well
on August 9, 2018

OK, got this for the kids game room. Until this little guy, they had a standard flat panel TV speaker or had to bring down one of their portable Blu-tooth speakers. It was admittedly a first-world problem, but lets be frank, the quality of sound from most flat panel TV's is utilitarian at best, and with the portable speaker (and used by kids) the battery may not always be charged or (imagine this), they may not remember where they left it, so this unit alleviated all of those issues. Also, with 5 or 6 teenagers in the game room playing pool and air-hockey, you can imagine the cacophony of sonic discordant throes simply overpowering the little TV or portable speaker. This is perfect fit for our needs,
When we got it home, my 16 year old promptly hauled the unit downstairs, unpacked it and within 4 minutes had the system not just powered and plugged, but also had his and his sisters phone connected with Blu-tooth and was streaming, so set up is quick and easy.He did have o fiddle with the wire that serves as FM antenna to get his favorite station, but that is nothing a little longer piece of copper can simply correct,
As for sound, the quality is pretty darn good, especially for our needs. Now they can stream music whilst pool balls bounce off each other and the air-hockey puck shuttle back and forth. It can even compensate for the occasional celebration of one player over the sonic anguish of another when the perfect shot sends one teen to victory and the other to defeat.
We also connected to to the TV so again, the sound quality was a much appreciated improvement while Stranger Things streamed on the screen.
The remote is easy to use and functional, the build quality is exactly as you would expect from a consumer grade LG product, the bass is a welcome upgrade, and the mids and highs are more crisp than the equipment being replaced.
If there is one area for improvement (yes, I'm nitpicking) it would be the inclusion of Google Assistant for voice control. Otherwise, great system especially if you have a specific need like we did. Easy 4 star, 5 star if it had voice assistant. I would recommend this product.

Pretty Solid, But...
on August 7, 2018

from Niwot CO
OK, first impressions:
Overall, high quality. The amp has a sleek, compact look of quality. The tactile feedback is great. Feels well made, simple and attractive. The speaker connections are strong and positive.
The speakers are also excellent quality on initial unpacking. They are heavy (in a good way) and also have a high quality look and feel. They are bigger than I was expecting, but I'm not disappointed. The design for the insertion of the wire is great. The wires come in from behind and are connected to another set of very nice connectors. Then you place a cover on the front and the connection is well secured and sealed from the elements. And then you place the grille on for the clean look and even more protection, Mounting was pretty simple and the brackets were solidly sturdy.
OK, now its time to set up the head unit... Easy money. I had it connected to wireless network, updated software and ready to go in 3 or 4 minutes. No problems at all.
Now for the remote. Here is where I am disappointed. The only way to get it associated with the network and amp is through an Apple app. Sorry all, but every one in this house are Android users. I mean, I guess I get it if you choose to alienate all Android or other users, but at least offer a PC based option. The remote comes with a micro USB cable so why not develop a simple app or web option to program the remote. This is a huge disappointment. I guess I'll have to wait until the kids get there school -issued iPads and we'll see here in a couple weeks, but a bummer. The remote does come with a clever magnetic holder that can either be mounted magnetically or into solid surfaces with screws. The remote hold is solid and unique. I just wish I could use the dang remote!
As for the app, I have had no issues with it. I find it easy to use, easy to setup and manage. Works well and no complaints so far.
OK, now we are all set up (except the remote control bummer) and ready to go. The sound is quite good. Very crisp and clean highs, no muddled mids and the bass is pretty good. While I'm no audiophile, the sound to this ear is pretty impressive. To put it to the test, we had the hot tub going with all 3 zones of jets full blast and the kids were in the pool with 2 of their friends splashing, diving, laughing and everyone could easily hear the music clearly. Even from far end of pool, it was great. At full blast, there is no distortion and everything is crisp, clean and clear.
End of the day, really good system with one major flaw. Give us an option for programming the dang remote! Had that been an option, this is easy 5 star but that embarrassing faux pas with the remote is a real bummer.

They work great!

I have these paired with a Denon 7.2 receiver from BB Magnolia Room, a Polk surround system with a Yamaha powered sub. I really enjoyed all components prior to hooking these Atmos surround up...
In all honesty, I did not realize how under-utilized my system was prior to these. They added such a nice textural element, especially for busy action movies. Dunkirk was fantastic to watch before but even more immersive after.
The units a re handsome, small, nondescript and would look great in most any home theater. The units were heavier (in a good way) than I was expecting and than they looked. They have a nice substantial feel that leads to a feeling of quality.
In all, I would recommend them, especially if you are a movie watcher.

Nice PC, but jury is still out
on July 12, 2018

OK, I just got this a couple days ago and first impressions:
+ It is lightweight, yet feels substantial
+ The screen picture is really good. Not great, but for most computing purposes, certainly effective.
+ The touch-screen is accurate and responsive. I have had no issues with it.
+ The processor is great. Clocking 3200+ core speed consistently.
+ The NIC is also great. I have no problem regularly hitting 830+ Mbps for both upload and download from fiber Internet.
+ Set up was simple and clean. Much appreciated the all-in-one design. Beats the heck out of old tower system and under-desk cable/power clutter is GREATLY reduced.
+ Speakers. I debated whether to put the speakers in the + category or = category. End of day, I decided they were good enough for +. The sound is pretty good for most people (I think) who tinker away on the internet or fiddling around with spreadsheets while streaming music or watching TV on-screen. I mean, for most people who are audiophiles, few stock speakers would be good enough and external can always be added to this machine. End of day, the speakers are good enough for most.
= Wireless mouse and keyboard are... Well, just that. Basic mouse and wireless keyboard. They are certainly effective and offer positive tactile feedback, but there are several add on opportunities that can easily be picked up at Best Buy any day of the week.
= Set up. There were some time consuming updates that were required, but is that fault of the PC or the OS? I put it in the = category instead of the - category because the blame is not all the fault of the PC.
- OK. here is where the jury is still out. When you return to PC after a period of time (30 minutes +) it has a tendency to not go to sleep but instead powers off. I have tried multiple power setting options and so far the only work around is to keep the PC and screen in "Never Turn Off" mode. I am going to fiddle around for the next couple of days to get this resolved. I am sure I'll figure it out but it's a little disappointing.
End of day, I'll give it 4 stars because in spite of the problem, Best Buy is always easy to do business with and from past experience, Dell also has good support. In all honesty, I really do like the machine and SO MUCH appreciate the mess of cables, power chords and audio/video/USB cables that this replaces.
Nice unit, but with a slight asterisk I'm confident can be overcome.

Great for what I need it for

I have always been a Belkin fan. In my experience Belkin has consistently provided OEM quality products that are dependable and reliable.
In this case, the cable looks and feels very good quality especially at the connection points. The fit is positive and tight at both ends at the connection point. My only negative comment (and this is purely subjective) is that the chord feels somewhat slim (some might describe in a positive light as it feels supple) and in fairness I am more used to the thicker cable that came with my other phone.
With the note that it is 2018 and some may question why the need for wired technology, for me it works great. I have a 1983 Ford F-350 work truck that has the wired connection but no wireless and it works great.I also use in my 2005 RV and 2002 cabin cruiser. While I could upgrade all 3 to a newer wireless technology, this cable affords me the ability to use existing receivers without the expense and time of upgrading for vehicles that are not regularly used.
In all, I would recommend this product. The only reason for 4 stars and not 5 is as mentioned, I prefer a slightly thicker cable for my big old clumsy man-hands. Otherwise its a good solution for my needs.

Great Little Machine
on June 22, 2018

from Niwot CO
My 16 year old son was so excited to get this that he was literally un-boxing it on our way into the house. In about 2 minutes he had it opened and completely assembled and ready to go..
My first thoughts are that this unit is higher overall quality than other pod-style coffee makers I have and have used. It's heavy than it looks that gives one the feel of substantial quality. The handle for the pod insert has a very nice metallic look and feel. Overall, tactile feedback is very good.
After running the recommended first time use instructions, we made our first cup of espresso in literally 40 seconds. It was pretty cool to watch the process with the brewing of coffee and the frothing of the milk. Important note, it did come with a sample packet of 14 pods so that was a nice bonus.
On first sip, the quality was very much in line with what I have experienced at specialty coffee houses, and for $4 +tip at the coffee house, I can see this unit paying for itself fairly quickly for this family of 4. Very good quality.
I will admit that it does require some maintenance, but that IS NOT at the fault of the machine. I for one don't want the remnants of spoiled milk brewing in my machine so cleaning is a part of ownership. That said, the cleaning process is relatively simple and not time consuming.
End of the day, if you are looking for an easy to use and maintain espresso machine that produces quality espresso, you can't go wrong.

Don't get me wrong, we enjoyed it, but it kinda' felt like the same things kept happening over and over and over... Also it was a little hard to believe that the shuttle, the ISS and China's space station would be magically in alignment as they orbited the earth at 18,000 miles per hour. If you can get beyond that, it was enjoyable, especially considering the 3D and visual effects.
