Daniel Petrie replaced Ron Howard in the director's chair for Cocoon: The Return, which reunites much of the original cast. The film makes its debut on DVD with a pair of transfers. The widescreen anamorphic transfer preserves the original theatrical aspect ratio of 1.85:1, and is preferable to the standard full-frame image. A closed-captioned English soundtrack is rendered in Dolby Digital 5.1, a French soundtrack has been recorded in Dolby Digital Surround, and a Dolby Digital Mono Spanish soundtrack can be accessed as well. English and Spanish subtitles are available. There are no supplemental materials of any consequence, but this disc does offer solid sound and picture quality.

Recommended Sequel

Taking place several years after the first film, 'Cocoon: The Return,' is a very good sequel to an exceptional first film. Overall, critics didn't care for this movie, but I disagree on that note. The entire cast returns for this second film, which is one of its major strong points, and as in the first movie, James Horner's musical score is simply breathtaking. Anamorphic widescreen and full-screen.
One of director Ron Howard's most beloved hits, Cocoon arrives on DVD with some modest but attractive bonus features. Viewable in either the original 1.85:1 anamorphic widescreen aspect ratio or 1.33:1 pan-and-scan, this release offers audio rendered in closed-captioned English Dolby Digital 4.0 and Spanish or French Dolby Digital Surround with optional English and Spanish subtitles. Extra features include a commentary track with director Howard, five featurettes, theatrical trailers, and television spots.

Very Touching Story

'Cocoon' is an exceptional film that will hit you in the heart. It's presented here beautifully on this disc, and offers a really good bonus commentary by director Ron Howard. Anamorphic Widescreen and full-screen viewing options. Highly recommended, as is the sequel.
The Dream Team has been given a widescreen transfer in its original aspect ratio, which is letterboxed on conventional televisions and enhanced for 16 x 9 playback on widescreen monitors. The audio has been mastered in Dolby Digital Surround Stereo; along with the original English-language soundtrack, an alternate French-language track has also been included. The disc also includes subtitles in Spanish and French, and the film's original theatrical trailer is included as a bonus.

Eccentric & Enjoyable Movie

'The Dream Team' is an underrated comedy-drama that really shows off some great acting performances. I can't help but realize how much Michael Keaton's character reminds me of myself sometimes. Widescreen, and well worth a viewing.
'Robin Hood Men In Tights' is a typical Mel Brooks production, though not nearly his best work. However, it's my guess that most of his fans will want to see this one, and probably won't be disappointed. Widescreen with some sparse extras.
B.W.L. Norton's family adventure Baby - Secret of the Lost Legend comes to DVD with a standard full-frame transfer that fails to preserve the original theatrical aspect ratio of the film. The English soundtrack is rendered in Dolby Digital Surround. There are no subtitles, but the soundtrack is closed-captioned. There are no supplemental materials. It is a shame that Disney/Buena Vista has done such minimal work on the release of this children's Jurassic Park.

I have fond memories of having viewed this motion picture as a child. Watching it at an older age takes away most of the magic, as I realized how bad it really was. Kids may like this one, but there's really nothing special on this full-screen only, bare bones dvd.
Nora Ephron's 1993 romantic comedy Sleepless in Seattle gets another DVD release with this Tenth Anniversary Edition from Columbia TriStar. The film is presented in both widescreen anamorphic and full-screen versions. The Dolby Digital Surround soundtrack is in English only, but the subtitles are available in English, Chinese, Korean, and Thai. Director Ephron provides the commentary track with her sister and co-writer, Delia Ephron. Also includes the original theatrical trailer, the featurette "Love in the Movies," and a music video for "When I Fall in Love" with Celine Dion and Clive Griffin. Other than the silver heading on the cover art, the only discernible feature that makes this edition any better than the original 1999 Special Edition is the ten-dollar Starbucks mail-in rebate gift card inside the DVD packaging.

Good Movie and Dvd

'Sleepless in Seattle' is not the kind of movie most people are going to watch over and over again, but it is good, and well worth at least one viewing. For fans who do enjoy the movie on a regular basis, this nicely presented dvd offers some charming bonus features to soak up. Widescreen and full-screen.
Ivan Reitman's comedy Twins comes to DVD with a standard full-frame transfer that fails to preserve the original theatrical aspect ratio of the film. English, Spanish, and French soundtracks are rendered in Dolby Digital Surround. Spanish subtitles are accessible, and the English soundtrack is closed-captioned. Supplemental materials include production notes, and biographies of the cast. This is a sub-par release from Universal.

'Twins' is a relatively humorous comedy that is carried mostly by Danny DeVito. The film has its moments, but isn't what I would consider top-notch entertainment. The dvd is nothing special, full-screen only with no bonus features.
I don't know what it is that I love about this movie, but I can watch it repeatedly. Perhaps it's because 'Over the Top' is one of those films, much like 'The Karate Kid Part III,' that is so bad it's actually good. This movie is basically the arm-wrestling equivalent of 'Rocky,' but its ok since it's Stallone playing the character. Nothing in terms of bonus on this disc other than the trailer (which is also quite funny), but at least it's anamorphic widescreen.
Action icons Kurt Russell and Sylvester Stallone are two cocky cops who team up to take down a drug baron in this Warner Home Video release. Presented in anamorphic 2.35:1 widescreen (enhanced for 16 x 9 TVs) and featuring an English Dolby Digital 5.1 audio mix, this release also features an additional French Dolby Digital Surround soundtrack as well as optional English, Spanish, and French subtitles. Extra features, though slim, include production notes and theatrical trailers.

Russell and Stallone Are a Great Combo
on May 1, 2008

Kurt Russell and Sylvester Stallone really work well together in this fun, campy action flick. 'Tango & Cash' is recommended entertainment, and is offered here in both anamorphic widescreen and full-screen formats.
Forever Young's birth on DVD (single-layered) comes with only production notes and theatrical trailers as bonus or special features. Its picture format is a non-anamorphic, full-screen standard with the usual 1.33:1 aspect ratio. Audio features include English (Dolby Digital 2.0 Surround), Spanish (Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo), and French (Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo), with subtitles available in English, Spanish, and French. Sound quality is disappointingly similar to that of VHS or ordinary television and is barely stereophonic. The DVD case has a cardboard cover that includes a chapter index.

This Film Deserves Better Dvd Treatment

'Forever Young' presents one of the best love stories I've seen on film. Shamefully released in a full-screen only format with no bonus features except for the trailer, which by the way, you don't want to watch anyway because it completely spoils the movie.
