The much-celebrated 1995 Oscar winner Leaving Las Vegas is available on DVD through MGM DVD. The film can be viewed either in widescreen or standard format. It is available in the uncut, unrated version that features additional explicit footage not shown in theatres and comes equipped with English, French, and Spanish subtitles and Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround Sound. The DVD comes with the original theatrical trailer and a six-page booklet with trivia, fluffy production notes, and a list of the film's awards and nominations. The main menu screen is set against a backdrop of moving headlights and Vegas neon while jazz music plays in the background. Viewers who click on the playing cards in the upper right hand corner of the screen are led to a hidden page menu feature. This hidden page features "From College to Call Girl," a short list of Ivy League graduates (such as the film's star Elisabeth Shue) who went on to play prostitutes on film. The colors and sound on this DVD appear sharp and bright. Perhaps more detailed production notes or filmographies/biographies would have been appropriate, especially for an Oscar winner such as this one, but in essence, it's a decent package.

Several aspects of the main character in this movie remind me of myself. However, I didn’t at all care for most of the attempts at humor in this movie, which are just extremely crass and distasteful.
Just how many hungry dinosaurs on the loose can one person stand? Prepare to find out with this special, limited-edition box set, which combines a digitally remastered edition of Steven Spielberg's sci-fi blockbuster about prehistoric creatures come back to life, Jurassic Park, with a similarly upgraded version of Spielberg's sequel, The Lost World: Jurassic Park. If that's not enough, viewers get two bonus videos on the production of the films, showing how the remarkably lifelike dinosaurs were created, as well as a special senitype, a deluxe presentation box, and a certificate of authenticity. Sorry, but there's no helpful advice on what to do if a bloodthirsty dinosaur created through cloning technology thinks you look like an hors d'oeuvre.

Taking into account the hefty price-tag of this limited set, and because you can get the dvd's individually for so much cheaper, I only recommend this product to die-hard fans of the film series.
This collector's edition DVD boasts a thunderously impressive DTS Dolby Surround 5.1 audio mix, and the anamorphic widescreen 1.85:1 picture's panoramic scope and smoothness of detail almost (but not quite) capture the excitement and state-of-the-art special effects of the theatrical version. The DVD also comes with a cartload of bonus features: a featurette called "The Making of Jurassic Park," narrated by Spielberg, who mentions the film's roots in the work of author Michael Crichton (who also appears in this featurette); a few scenes deleted from the film's final cut; pre-production illustrations and drawings, which are advanced with the fast forward buttons; six of the artist's storyboards (same access); and nine shots of movie models, most of them cities and villages. The subtitles are in English, French, and Spanish. The audio track is English (DTS) only.

I don’t know what Steven Spielberg was thinking when making this sequel to the box-office smash ‘Jurassic park,’ but it’s incredibly poor. Not since ‘Temple of Doom’ have I been so disappointed with his work. The only redeeming quality about this dvd is that it offers DTS surround sound.
The Lost World: Jurassic Park, Steven Spielberg's sequel to Jurassic Park comes to DVD in its original 1.85:1 aspect ratio. The earth-shaking steps of the big dinosaurs are captured in 5.1 Digital Surround Sound. There are English and French language tracks available, as well as Spanish subtitles. Additional features include a "making of" documentary; deleted scenes; production photographs that include storyboards; biographical info on the cast and crew; trailers for this film, its prequel, and its sequel; and a dinosaur encyclopedia.

I don’t know what Steven Spielberg was thinking when making this sequel to the box-office smash ‘Jurassic Park,’ but it’s incredibly poor. Not since ‘Temple of Doom’ have I been so disappointed with his work. If you have to buy this one, and have a home theater system, at least get the version with DTS sound.
One would expect Jurassic Park, Steven Spielberg's phenomenally successful dinosaur adventure, to be an almost flawless DVD, and this Universal edition is generally very satisfying. The picture quality is certainly outstanding, bringing out Spielberg's use of color and detail perfectly, while the widescreen format ensures that the dinosaurs are no less terrifying at home than in the cinema. The Dolby 5.1 sound (a DTS edition is also available) is better still, with every roar and rumble bellowing out in crystal clarity. This DVD has clearly been designed with love and attention; even the menu screen is an amazing work of CGI art. Amongst the huge range of features are standard fare such as production notes, biographies, and trailers for Jurassic Park: The Lost World and Jurassic Park III (the latter is totally unrevealing). Footage of early pre-production meetings illustrate Spielberg's desire to make the dinosaurs as frightening as possible, while "Raptors In the Kitchen" shows how Phil Tippett's animatics technique helped to shape the look of the film before CGI was introduced into the equation. A messy but interesting storyboards section includes an omitted scene and the original ending for the film, and the "Foley Artists" feature provides fascinating insight into how the film got some of its Oscar-winning sound. Obviously this DVD will be popular with kids, and it is at kids that the fun and quite thorough "Dinosaur Encyclopaedia" is aimed. The location scouting footage, DVD-ROM features, and production photographs are all moderately interesting, but the best of the extra features is probably "The Making of Jurassic Park." Fifty minutes long and narrated by James Earl Jones, this is a detailed and authoritative documentary, although it does concentrate almost solely on the special effects side of the film, even incorporating footage of the original puppet dinosaurs before Spielberg opted for full-blown CGI creations. The glaring absence from this disc is a commentary by Spielberg himself, which would surely have been revealing, and would have made it an exceptional rather than very good DVD. Nevertheless, Jurassic Park fans will probably be delighted to have this edition in their home libraries.

‘Jurassic Park’ is not a great movie, it does however present some impressive visual effects that are sure to stir you up. This Collector’s edition should please fans, but for those who have home theater systems, try to track down the DTS version if you can, as it features unbelievable sound.
2010 appears in a decent 2.35:1 anamorphic widescreen transfer that showcases bright colors and the film's impressive space effects. However, a significant amount of grain and minor defects do exist on the picture, which lessens its effectiveness. The audio utilizes a powerful 5.1-channel Dolby Digital track that presents the grandeur of space. While offering a clear and forceful sound, this transfer lacks the complexity inherent within the premier releases. The lone extra feature on this release is "2010 - The Odyssey Continues," a nine-minute featurette that provides a quick look at the production. Arthur C. Clarke speaks briefly and then gives way to a promotional narrator. The behind-the-scenes shots follow all the key stars, including John Lithgow on wires and Roy Scheider having problems with a floating pen. This release also includes an informative eight-page collectible booklet that contains more worthwhile material.

While not at all a bad movie in its own right, the things that really hurt ‘2010’ were the facts that it was trying to do the impossible, by matching both the quality and fan expectations of its predecessor ‘2001: A Space Odyssey,’ which is probably the greatest film ever made.
The U.S. Army faces its greatest challenge to date -- new recruit Pauly Shore -- in this comedy, which gets a simple presentation for its DVD release. In the Army Now has been transferred to disc in the full-frame aspect ratio of 1.33:1, and the audio has been mastered in Dolby Digital Stereo. The dialogue is in English, with no multiple-language options of bonus materials included.
