Package description: Hilarious comedy rules in Disney's The Emperor's New Groove! There's something for everyone in this hip, funny movie with its dynamo cast, distinctive style, and great music -- featuring the Academy Award-nominated song, "My Funny Friend and Me"! Emperor Kuzco (voiced by David Spade) is turned into a llama by his devious advisor, Yzma (Eartha Kitt), and her hunky henchman, Kronk (Patrick Warburton). Now the ruler who once had it all must form an unlikely alliance with a pleasant peasant named Pacha (John Goodman). Together, they must overcome their differences as they embark on a hilarious, "groovy" adventure. Discovering the good in everyone has never been this much fun! Your whole family will enjoy this comic delight again and again!

this is a beautiful story. every woman wants to be saved and loved regardless of her faults. julia roberts is great, i don't think anyone could have played her role better.

Scent of a Woman is another fine, if featureless, DVD transfer from Universal. With a crystal clear 1.85:1 anamorphic widescreen transfer and adequate Dolby Surround Sound, the film thankfully avoids a digital treatment that just looks like a sloppy recycling of an older transfer. Unfortunately, with no extras but a theatrical trailer, Scent of a Woman isn't worth much more than a rental. The film is distinguished as the project that finally got Al Pacino his long-elusive Oscar for Best Actor, so there would be some basis for at least a production featurette. Pacino's fine performance isn't the only ignored topic, as the film also introduced now-popular actors like Chris O'Donnell and Philip Seymour Hoffman. It would have been interesting to see retrospective interviews with the actors now, looking back on the experience. Also, the film's subject matter was a departure for director Martin Brest, who had previously directed Beverly Hills Cop. Now that Gus Van Sant has cornered the market on tales of mentorship and bonding between older and younger men, Brest might have been able to deliver some insightful comments about a film that preceded films like Good Will Hunting and Finding Forrester. Scent of a Woman is worth a look with a good digital transfer, but the lack of supplements keeps it in a rental category.

Warner Brothers' presentation of Any Given Sunday is billed as a Special Edition Director's Cut and contains a handful of additional pieces of footage not seen theatrically. Visually, the film is very well presented. The colors are exceptionally bright, if a bit too red. This could have been the intention of director Oliver Stone, however, and not a fault of the transfer. The video is shown in an anamorphic widescreen 2.35:1 aspect ratio. The details, especially in anamorphic mode, are extremely crisp. The Dolby Digital 5.1 audio track is light on surround usage but full of pulse-pounding bass; each hit and tackle is rendered thunderous. Several special features are included: a documentary on the making of the film, an L.L. Cool J music video, trailer, and biographies. Unfortunately, there is no commentary. Any Given Sunday is also enhanced for DVD-ROMs with web events, chat-room access, Web-site links, reviews, and more. Although the extras are large in number, their quality is limited. As with any feature by a renowned director, some type of commentary would have been welcome. The trailer and bios are one-time views, if that, and the DVD-ROM features are hardly compelling. This DVD, however, is all about the presentation of the film. In this area it succeeds wonderfully. With added scenes, an incredible video transfer, and heavy-hitting sound, there is enough here for both fans of the film and newcomers to Stone's football opus.

Taylor Hackford's The Devil's Advocate gets a superb DVD release with this package. The disc contains a widescreen anamorphic transfer that preserves the original theatrical aspect ratio of 2.35:1. English and French soundtracks are rendered in Dolby Digital 5.1. English, Spanish, and French subtitles are accessible. Supplemental materials include an audio commentary by the director, a half hour of deleted scenes, production notes, theatrical trailers, and a pair of television commercials. Whatever one might think of the film, the superb technical job and the bountiful extras make this an engaging DVD.

this movie is a classic! one of the ultimate gangster movies. we can all agree that the accents are terrible and the fact that there are several italians portraying cubans is irritating but, it was the early 80's. the world is mine!
