Jonathan Demme's adaptation of Toni Morrison's Pulitzer Prize-winning novel comes to DVD with a widescreen transfer that preserves the original theatrical aspect ratio of 1.85:1. A closed-captioned English soundtrack is rendered in Dolby Digital 5.1, while a French soundtrack is recorded in Dolby Digital Stereo. There are no subtitles accessible on this release. Supplemental features include a "making of" featurette and a trailer. Although this film failed to connect with a mass audience, this disc will please those who discovered its merits.
