Package Description: In DreamWorks' smash-hit comedy, these hungry critters go over the hedge to take a bite out of Suburbia. Plus, check out the All-New Mini-Movie, Hammy's Boomerang Adventure... It's the funnies, furriest four minutes you'll see this year.

I really liked this movie. It was pretty lond and there was a part where I started to get restless but that didn't last long and then it got very good! This tells about a true story that is very important but most people don't know about it.

Columbia TriStar brings Maid in Manhattan to DVD. The picture, presented in 2.35:1 anamorphic widescreen, is a clean transfer full of sharp colors and rich tones. The English 5.1 Dolby Surround Sound is also quite impressive, as to be expected with a 21st century DVD. The entire film is also presented in full-screen format. A collection of trailers for other Columbia TriStar films is the biggest extra on the disc. Rounding out the features are scene selections and an animated menu. As successful as the film was, one might have expected a few more extras on this disc.

Sofia Coppola's award-winning Lost in Translation comes to DVD in a wonderful package from Universal Pictures and Focus Features. The film comes in an anamorphic 1.85:1 widescreen picture (a full-screen edition is also available), with full and rich sound options that come in both Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1 tracks. Special features on the disc begin with the brilliant "'Lost' on Location" behind-the-scenes documentary. Shot handheld by a small crew during the shoot in Tokyo (including Coppola's husband-at-the-time Spike Jonze), the footage offers a rare inside look at a production that itself seems lost within the same very foreign land as its two main characters. Capturing a few stellar moments between Murray and the crew, the footage is a welcome surprise amidst the hype-driven studio featurettes that too often litter DVDs. Though not quite as solid, the ten-minute conversation with Bill Murray and Sofia Coppola feature does give the viewer a bit more background on the production (which a commentary would have covered if it'd been included), though some will no doubt be looking for more out of the two than an on-the-fly Q & A on a balcony in Rome. Thankfully, the disc isn't done yet, as it continues with the entire clip from Matthew's Best Hit TV show, featuring a hilarious bit with Murray and a box of live eels that needs to be seen to be believed. The music video for Kevin Shields' "City Girl" is also supplied, along with a section of five extended and deleted scenes that serve as a nice complement to the film but offer little else. The original theatrical trailer rounds out the extras on this fine disc.

The Family Guy's maniacal baby genius takes an outrageous journey of self-discovery in this feature-length adventure that follows little Stewie on a cross-country search to find the man he believes is his true father. One day, while sitting in front of the television pondering his latest plot for world domination, Stewie is shocked to see a man with whom he bears an uncanny resemblance. Now wholeheartedly convinced that his biological father is the man he spotted on television, Stewie hits the road in search of his past.

Into the Wild is writer/director Sean Penn's adaptation of the popular book by Jon Krakauer, a nonfiction account of the post-collegiate wanderings of a young Virginia man, who divorces himself from his friends, family, and possessions in search of a greater spiritual knowledge and communion with nature. Upon his 1990 graduation from Emory University in Atlanta, Christopher McCandless (Emile Hirsch) walks away from a loving if dysfunctional family and sends his nearly 25,000-dollar life savings to Oxfam International. Instead of the normal life his parents planned for him, Chris rechristens himself "Alexander Supertramp" and heads west in his beaten-up automobile until it no longer runs, at which point he takes up hitchhiking. The goal on the horizon? Alaska. By hook or by crook -- but without his limited cash, which he symbolically sets aflame -- Chris/Alexander determines to make it to his personal promised land, with stops along the way to experience America and its people. These adventures include a kayak trip down dangerous rapids, a gig working in a grain mill, extended stays with a hippie couple and a kindly old widower -- and enough cold, hunger, and exhaustion to leave him emotionally defeated more than once. Meanwhile, his parents (William Hurt and Marcia Gay Harden) and sister (Jena Malone) haven't received so much as a postcard from him, and begin to fear the worst. Pearl Jam's Eddie Vedder composed the contemplative soundtrack.

Stephen Herek's adaptation of The Three Musketeers comes to DVD with a widescreen transfer that preserves the original theatrical aspect ratio of 2.35:1. An English soundtrack is rendered in Dolby Digital 5.1, and a French soundtrack has been recorded in Dolby Digital Stereo. There are no subtitles, but the English soundtrack is closed-captioned. Supplemental materials include a making-of featurette and Bryan Adams, Sting, and Rod Stewart's hit single from the movie, "All for Love." This is an average disc from Disney/Buena Vista.

Released three months after a two-disc set, this extended edition of Lord Of The Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring is without question the DVD of 2002. It's not easy to know where to begin. The picture on this disc, framed at 2.35:1 and anamorphic is brilliant, just as the original release was. Colors are vivid, blacks are solid, and detail is perfect. There are no signs of grain, scratches, shimming...it is a joy to view. The film, at three and a half hours, is split over two of the four discs. Yes, switching the discs midway through the film is necessary, but with the additional compression space, it's no wonder it looks so good. The sound, in both Dolby Digital EX and DTS ES tracks is equally amazing. Dialogue and sound effects are clear as a bell, while the surrounds are aggressive at just the right moments. But where this disc stands out more than any other are the supplements. On the first two discs are four commentary tracks. These include "The Director and Writers," with Peter Jackson, Fran Walsh, and Philippa Boyens; "The Design Team," including production designer Grant Major, costume designer Ngila Dickson, creative supervisor Richard Taylor, conceptual designers Alan Lee and John Howe, supervising art director Dan Hennah, art department manager Chris Hennah, and workshop manager Tania Rodger; "The Production/Post-Production Team," which has producer Barrie Osborne, executive producer Mark Ordesky, director of photography Andrew Lesnie, editor John Gilbert, co-producer Rick Porras, composer Howard Shore, visual effects supervisor Jim Rygiel, supervising sound editors Ethan van der Ryn and Mike Hopkins, animation designer Randy Cook, VFX art director Christian Rivers, VFX cinematographer Brian Vant Hul, and miniatures director of photography Alex Funke; and if that was not enough, there is "The Cast," with Elijah Wood, Ian McKellen, Liv Tyler, Sean Astin, John Rhys-Davies, Billy Boyd, Dominic Monaghan, Orlando Bloom, Christopher Lee, and Sean Bean. And that is just the first two discs! The third and fourth discs are an amazing revelation into the entire filmmaking process. These discs are called the Appendices. Disc three, "From Book to Vision," covers the process of adapting the book to film form; three and a half hours of documentaries trace the original published work of J.R.R. Tolkien through the vast pre-production journey of the film. Included are lengthy detailed pieces on the costumes, pre-visualizations, storyboards, and more artwork than you are likely to see anywhere else. The fourth disc, "From Vision to Reality," looks at everything regarding the actual filmmaking activity. Everything from casting, visual effects, sound, editing, and so much more are covered here in two and half hours of more documentaries. Both supplement discs are heavy with interviews and behind-the-scenes footage, and the inclusion of some 2,000 paintings and photographs, some with additional commentary, brings the total supplements to around 30 hours. A real plus is the lack of too much repetition, which could have greatly cut the enjoyment of perusing the wealth of information. Lord of the Rings fans, and those new to this marvelous work, will be swept away by the caliber of what is offered here. When you get right down to it, there simply aren't enough superlatives for this DVD release. New Line and the filmmakers involved have gone out of their way to make this a DVD release that shines above all others.
