One of the best golf films ever made, Caddyshack is a movie high on the list of any comedy fan. As a DVD, however, it doesn't deliver the same punch. The widescreen transfer is from an older print, and the audio options are Dolby digital or just plain mono. Unfortunately the extras aren't much better than the transfer. There's no audio commentary, which could have been a classic on a film like this. There is a 30-minute behind-the-scenes feature entitled "The 19th Hole" which includes interviews with director Harold Ramis and star Chevy Chase plus a few outtakes and rare deleted scenes. Somehow the comedy of the film doesn't translate to this documentary, and the noticeable absence of Rodney Dangerfield and Bill Murray make one think its producers didn't delve as deeply as they should have. Other extras are strictly by the numbers, including theatrical trailer, production notes and French language and subtitles.

The first two Austin Powers' DVDs were New Line "platinum editions," but the latest, Austin Powers In Goldmember is the first to be part of their "Infinifilm" family. They sure can pack a lot on a single disc. As with other titles in that series, this one has a slew of supplements, which can be accessed by normal menu functions, or through the Infinifilm notices that pop up onscreen as you watch the movie. What you will find are numerous featurettes on the effects, behind-the-scenes looks at the production, interviews with the cast and crew, and much more. In addition are around 25 minutes of deleted scenes and a gag real. Though not all of them work, this segment adds even more laughs not found in the film. Not to be left out are four music videos from the likes of Britney Spears and Beyonce Knowles, theatrical teasers and trailer plus some nice DVD-ROM content. Of course, as with the other Austin Powers discs, this one includes a screen-specific audio commentary with director Jay Roach and Mike Myers. If that weren't enough, this disc also features a "fact track" with all kinds of interesting notes that run along with the movie. As for picture and sound, it is stellar in all respects. The image, framed at 2.35:1, and anamorphic, is brilliant. A pan-and-scan version is available separately, but with it being so severely cropped, there is little point to it. Colors, a real integral element of this film, are vibrant and full of life. Detail is also strong, but then again, nothing less would have been acceptable. Simply put, this is as good a transfer, as you will find. The sound matches the visuals in every way. Both DTS and Dolby Digital English tracks are provided, and it's quite surprising that a comedy would have such an active soundtrack. Dialogue is distinct, while at the same time, the surrounds are used very effectively with excellent separation. Of particular interest is the bass, which is quite powerful at selected times.

This is a good ending to the movie series. It isn't as good as the first ones but it is still very good.

This edgy animated sitcom proved so popular after cancellation that it was subsequently resurrected and brought back to prime time. Family Guy arrives on DVD with some hilarious extras thanks to 20th Century Fox Home Video. Presented as originally aired in 1.33:1 full-frame, this release offers audio rendered in closed-captioned English Dolby Digital Surround in addition to alternate Spanish Dolby Digital Surround and French Dolby Digital Stereo. Optional English and Spanish subtitles are available as well. For those who can't get enough of the irreverent series, there are also audio commentaries on select episodes, featuring creator Seth MacFarlane, executive producer David Zuckerman, and various writers and cast members. A behind-the-scenes featurette provides a look at the making of Family Guy and internet promo spots show off some web-savvy marketing.

The top-rated situation comedy The King of Queens gets a simple, but satisfying, presentation on DVD in this box set. The material on The King of Queens: The First Season has been transferred to disc in its original full-frame aspect ratio of 1.33:1 and the audio has been mastered in Dolby Digital Surround. No multiple-language options have been included, but the episodes have been closed-captioned in English. Bonus materials include commentary tracks on selected episodes from star Kevin James and series creator Michael Weithorn; a short documentary on the production of the series; and a special montage of the show's funniest moments.

Kenan Thompson and Kel Mitchell, stars of the popular Nickelodeon series All That, confront the ogre of faceless corporate tyranny and have fun doing it in this comedy for young people. Ed (Mitchell) is a teenager who lives for his job at Good Burger, a small but friendly neighborhood hamburger stand, while his buddy Dexter (Thompson) also works there, but lack Ed's single-minded devotion to his job -- he's there because he accidentally destroyed the car of his teacher Mr. Wheat (Sinbad) and has to raise money to pay the damages. When Mondo Burger, a mammoth fast-foot chain, opens across the street, it looks like Good Burger is history, until Ed formulates a secret sauce that brings hundreds of new customers to their door. However, the monomaniacal manager of Mondo Burger, Kurt (Jan Schweiterman), is determined to get his hands on the sauce and put Good Burger out of business. Meanwhile, Ed and Dexter must rescue Otis (Abe Vigoda), the world's oldest fast food employee, from the Demented Hills Asylum, and Ed might just find love with Monique (Shar Jackson) if he could take his mind off the burgers long enough to pay attention to her. Good Burger also features basketball star Shaquille O'Neal as himself and George Clinton as one of the Demented Hills inmates.

Also contains the unaired episode "When You Wish Upon a Weinstein" with an optional commentary track. Each episode is presented with a standard full-frame transfer and Dolby Digital Surround Sound in English. Spanish and French soundtracks are also available. Love it or hate it (and let's face it, most hated it), this film is a marvel of set design and art direction, and that is well represented on this special edition DVD. The 1.85:1 anamorphic image is simply stunning. (As is common now, a full-frame version is available separately.) Colors, a vital element of the film, are presented with an amazing flourish, perfectly capturing the theatrical appearance. There are no signs of grain or print scratches, as would be expected. Nearly as impressive is the 5.1 Dolby Digital track. The sound mix is very exciting, with wide use of the surrounds for effect, but the main audio source is never drowned out up front. Dialogue is clear (this could be a good or bad thing, depending on your view) and without any distortion. It wouldn't be surprising to see a two-disc re-release happen down the line, but this title still throws in a number of first-rate supplements. While the menus are annoying, they will take you to numerous sections, mainly comprised of 12 short (under three minutes each) featurettes. Those with short attention spans will appreciate these pieces, all with interviews from director Bo Welch, star Mike Myers, and other cast members. Segments include the cat makeup, the music, the creation of the Theodore Seuss Geisel stamp, the vehicles, various visual effects, and more. In addition, and designed to appeal to the very young, is a segment on how to dance like the cat. Slightly more promising, though not the best ever produced, is an audio commentary track from Welch and Alec Baldwin. The two seem to enjoy recording this track, and their time making the movie. Infinitely more amusing than the film is a lengthy bloopers segment. Finally, a number of deleted scenes are offered, as well as the trailers for Shrek 2 and Peter Pan. Overall, this is a fine disc, from the exceptional picture and sound to a wide array of extras. Now, if only the film was as good.
