Journey is entretaining but rather shallow

It's important to note straight off that this IS NOT a remake or a retelling of Verne's classic novel in any way. This story is surprisingly original.
The storyline, in brief, is about a college professor, played by Brendon Fraser (The Mummy and George of the Jungle) with his usual boyish charm who lost his brother 10 years ago when he went off to prove that Verne's novel wasn't really fiction. Now, out of a sense of guilt or obligation he takes in his brother's son each summer, well played by Josh Hutcherson (Zathura, RV, and Bridge to Terabithia. Hutcherson is in danger of being typecast as the bitter, rebellious teenager with a secret heart of gold. His acting is good, but he's been essentially playing the same role over and over again.
Well, the pair get it in their heads to try and track down the possible entry to the center of the earth and end up in Iceland trying to track down another professor who may be of help, but discover he died awhile back. They are instead greeted by his lovely looking, but rather cold exterior daughter, nicely played by relative newcomer Anita Briem, who agrees to be a mountain guide for them in what she considers to be a fool's errand.
The rest of the film is the trip to the center of the earth which only seems to take them a few minutes to get to and includes a shamelessly copied scene on mine carts from Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom as well as a T-rex scene lifted from Jurassic Park. I wasn't sure if they were paying some kind of homage to these films (or genre), or if they were literally just copying the scenes thinking the 3D effects would make them better somehow. Other than that the film moves along at a fun and rapid pace with several predictable, but touching moments.
The Hits:
(1) The 3D effects are the advanced type (not the blue and red glasses) that doesn't leave you with a headache afterwards. The entire film is designed with 3D in mind and while a gimmick, it is effective and fun.
(2) The special effects themselves are magnificent and would hold up nicely even in 2D. The most beautiful effect is the beach scene. It was absolutely stunning!
(3) The performances were all much better than this gimmicky action genre would normally dictate. They know it's all nonsense, but they make themselves into rather believable characters that we care about.
The Misses:
(1) Although the plot is fast-paced, it is rather silly and even ludicrous much of the time, but again, we know this going into the film.
(2) There is some really awful cliché-ridden dialogue. It's a bit of a miracle that these actors were able to deliver them without bursting into laughter and that is to their credit.
(3) In spite of the overall nice entertainment factor of this film with all it's clever special effects, decent acting, and fast-paced feel, it is a rather shallow film that is hard to recall even right after seeing it.
The problem with all gimmicky films, whether they are 3D or using camcorders to tell the story, the focus is primarily on the gimmick and little else. So much time, energy and money goes into the gimmick that the other aspects of storytelling fall to the wayside. This film does a bit better job at trying to be more entertaining and cohesive than other gimmick-driven films, but it is still rather shallow when all is said and done. I doubt very much I would have enjoyed this film much at all if not for the 3D effects and that says a lot all by itself.

We are Disney passholders and were lucky enough to be invited to watch the movie this afternoon in it's entirety at Disney World! Let me just say it was wonderful!! Both myself and my almost 4 year old daughter were mesmerized by the graphics, the color and the story. It is very well done and I hope everyone has the opportunity to see it on the big screen like we did today because it is just beautiful. FYI, there are 3 more movies to follow this one, hopefully on the big screen. The message of the movie is also great for kids, that we can't all be good at everything but that's ok! Tink is such a cute character as are the other fairies, I sometimes forgot they weren't real! LOVED THIS MOVIE!!!

works exactly as adverstised

We recently moved into a new townhouse and I wanted a 5.1 home theater set-up. I didn't want to run wires to the rear speakers so I started looking into wireless speakers (Panasonic and Sony). I wasn't too happy with the reviews on these wireless HTIB's, so I was excited to stumble upon the Rocketfish Wireless Kit. Knowing this product was available, I was able to look at much higher quality speakers.
I ended up buying Orb Audio speakers and am happy to say Rocketfish works exactly as advertised. I have cordless phones and wireless internet in the same room, and never have any interference problems. My source is a PS3/Blu-ray player, and the wireless Orbs sound fantastic with Dolby TrueHD and DTS HD Master Audio pumping through them. I can hear a slight hum when the speakers are off, but only when I place my ear directly on the speaker. Overall I am very happy with this product and the price makes for a good value as well.

good sound

These were a husbandly-compromise, as my wife was adamant about not having a big bass unit in the newly refurbished living room. They're not quite as great as advertised, especially on the bass, but they do have as small a profile as you could want, especially if you paint the grills (and you get a choice of round or rectangular) the same color as the wall. The only objection is that although I used the Bose mounting plates before sheetrocking, they do not lie absolutely flush with the wall. However, the sound is pretty good, all things considered.

SynopsisAn agile, web-spinning hero swings nimbly through the canyonesque streets of Manhattan. But the formerly gleaming city is no longer what it was. A deadly symbiote invasion has descended, and the city lies strewn with enormous, hanging symbiote hives and infected symbiotes. Only Spider-Man can save the city from certain doom — but he has his own shadows to confront. As he battles against the ominous alien invasion, will he choose the grace and speed of Spidey's traditional Red Suit and align himself with other great heroes? Or will he heed the siren's call of the Black Suit and all the sinister power it provides, thus choosing the path of the vigilante instead? In Spider-Man: Web of Shadows, you'll encounter a city and a hero with greater depth than ever before in a Spider-Man game. Scale buildings that climb into the sky and engage in ferocious vertical battles on city walls. Destroy storefronts and vehicles as you use anything and everything in your vicinity as a weapon. Switch between the Black Suit and the Red Suit to take advantage of each suit's specific powers, and earn experience points you can use to upgrade either suit, thus enhancing the abilities you find most advantageous. Join forces with legendary Marvel heroes and villains to combat the alien menace, but beware — the game's morality meter tracks the public's reaction to your decisions. Do you prefer a citizenry that embraces you as a hero, or one that cowers in fear before your terrible power? In Spider-Man: Web of Shadows, the decision is yours to make. This exciting bundle includes the action-packed game as well as a limited edition art concept book that takes you deeper into Spidey's realm.

best spiderman game

"Despite a general lack of professional reviewing before its release, I took a chance on the $60 purchase of Spider-Man: Web of Shadows (WoS). This Spidey outing, again from Treyarch, features much of the same gameplay and dynamic that we have come to expect from a sandbox Spider-Man game: the "side missions" are similar (i.e. beat up gangs, rescue civilians, etc. for XP points which are used to buy upgrades to spidey's fighting ability). Also, fans of past Spider-Man games like 2 and 3 will be happy to know that WoS is fully 3D free-roaming, and not a "side scroll" format like Spider-Man: Friend or Foe was.
The main difference in WoS and previous iterations of Spider-Man is seen in the combat dynamic- it is definitely the greatest improvement over previous games. Spidey is now able to "web strike", or aerially attack, enemies in various different ways that is really successful in bringing across the acrobatic ability of the comic book hero. In fact, Spider-Man's combat abilities are the focus of the "upgrades" in his abilities now, unlike in SM2.
Other differences in WoS and previous Spider-Man games include a smoother overall swing and travel animations, the ability choose your own destiny with the use of the symbiote Black Suit (for generally more destructive use, heh heh) as well as an interesting "Ally" feature where you will team up with other heroes from the Spider-Man universe. Additionally, I have to disagree with some of the critics who pointed to WoS being too short; they obviously didn't attempt any of the side challenges.
Overall, I have to give this game a 5/5 because I think it is definitely the best Spider-Man game yet. It develops many of the cool aspects of some of the previous games while leaving out much of the filler. The combat, webslinging, and storyline are all developed to a great extent, and it is definitely worth a rental for the casual Spider-Man fan, and a purchase for the fanatic."

So we were out yesterday and we found a local store that was open late and they were selling GHWT on the day of release and we thought we could pick it up, so we did and then when we got home we started thinking wether to open the box or not?!
First this is maybe our 4th or 5th rythem/music game. we have GH3 RB1, and some other karoke games. Our greatest concern was that we dont need anymore instruments than we already have (3 plastic guitars, 5 mics and 1 wired drum set)
RB2 or GH-WT? it really depends how much your willing to spend because you can always get both!! but I think if you already have RB1 just pick up the RB2 standalone game the instruments though much improved dont warrent the investment from my point of view. GH-WT instruments on the other hand especially the drum kit have something relatively new to offer.
So the big question for us was do we open it or not? should we get RB2 instead? we decided to go ahead and open the box!! and we are glad we did, very positive experience so far.
The actual hands- on review broken down to diffirent sections:
1. standalone game: GH-WT is a great addition to the GH series with a lot of really great tracks, graphics are cleaner but cartonish as usual( which has some kind of special appeal to it). There is also the compostion mode which allows you to creat your own playble tracks, I looked into briefly and I would say it has a lot of potentialin it. There is also the added bonus of publishing your tracks online which may help uleash your inner composer.
I still havn't tried online play so maybe I'll update this section later.
Overall the game alone is really worth getting but the important part is wether to get the band kit or not?
2. Instruments:
A. The Guitar has a nice feel to it, it has been redesigned with removable face plates which can make it really customizable. they also added a slide bar which could be helpful for nailing some of the difficult solos.
B. Drum set: You get a wireless drum set that feels and looks really well made, its heavier than RB1 set(which makes it feel even more solid) but not too heavy though, and it Looks better than the new RB2 drum set. The presence of cymbals also adds a nice touch of authenticty and enhanced game play. I tried it with RB1 and until now its not compatible with it( treated like a regular controler not as a drum set)
c. Microphone: its your standerd wired rythem game mic nothing fancy here.
RB Vs GH instruments compatibility:
I only tried the GH kit on RB and doenst work, ill be cross testing soon and updating this review.
So overall its highly recommended if your into rythem games and if your not then maybe its time to get started! its really great for when you have friends or relatives over or maybe a family activety with your kids.
what are you waiting for? add to cart :)

A great documentary of a Great Show. Had the fortune to see the show in Las Vegas, and this DVD is the perfect retrospective of the magnificent "Love". The soundtrack (DTS 5.1) is great, as well as the interviews, the rehearsals and all what happened before the show was cast in June 2006. Think, that the director did a great job and makes me dream of seeing the show again.
A great pictorial of creative minds, both at the Cirque and the fabulous Four Kids.
It's a must for anyone who appreciates The Beatles and Cirque Du Soleil.

PS3's killer app is here

Hideo Kojima has done it again. MGS4 is the most detailed, convincing, and well-researched game I have ever played. It offers a compelling and imaginative glimpse into the future of high-tech warfare, a nuanced, intelligent storyline, vastly improved gameplay, and incredible graphics.
The metal gear franchise has always pushed the boundaries of what a game could be, and challenged the preconceptions of the audience. MGS4 starts out with, of all things, a short live action film about marine fauna. The in-game store discounts weapons (in real time) on wednesdays and sundays. These are just a few examples, but there are many more. The story has both the philosophical and political musings as well as the bizarre humor and one of a kind characters that fans expect.
The gameplay is more open and the action is more intense than in prior games. The environments seem much bigger and are bustling with npcs engaged in building to building warfare. Snake can join either side in the conflict or ignore them and sneak by. He has a ton of new weapons and gadgets as well.
The graphics are among the most impressive I have seen in a game. The characters are solid physical presences with subtle, lifelike facial expressions. The mechs move with an animal grace and hunt with a keen intelligence that belies their artificial construction.
Overall, the game is an experience that should not be missed by anyone with a PS3. If you don't already own a PS3, this game alone would justify its purchase. It is by far the most creative, original, and technically polished game to appear on the system to date.

The enthralling action-adventure saga introduces players to a cataclysmic Big Apple clash against an invasion of alien symbiotes that threatens mankind itself on PS 3. With a story penned by acclaimed Marvel comic book writer, Brian Reed, the title features a New York City devastated by a deadly symbiote invasion, in which players are faced with the choice to play the heroic web-slinger in his classic, agile red suit or the dark, formidable black suit. Battling with or against a huge cast of fan-favorite Marvel Super Heroes and Super Villains, gamers can switch allegiances instantly as they decide which missions will ultimately save mankind.

This game is awesome, from the graphics to the music, going through gameplay experience either online or the campain. little sackboy is funny and gets a lot of laughs from you when you are learning how to play and customising it. When it comes to playing, the game is so intuitive that you just go and play, the graphics are simple but with excellent detail. the creation part of the game is the best part, and I think is what going to make me and my family come and play for a long long time.
If you are a plataformer fan, or just like to have very good games that will for sure call everybody's attention including yours, get little big planet now
What's great about it: extras, character customization, high replay value, on line experience, ease of gameplay
What's not so great: none

What characteristics make a speaker a good and powerful one?

I need a small but powerful external speaker for my laptop.
When bass is strong and the sound does not get distorted with high volume. when highs and lows are noticeable makes the musical experience more pleasant.
Materials are important...if the speaker looks made out of cheap plastic, of course the sound is going to be cheap also

Where can I get my camera fixed?

My camera fell on the floor, and its kind of broken. The zoom lense wont go in or move at all, even when i close it.
normal warranties won't cover this type of accident (or any other), but few extended warrantied do. So if you have an extended warraty, specially from BB, then you can go and ask. they honored one of my extended warraties once, by just replacing the product, that is the reason why I get all my guilty pleasures at BB. If you don't the you should reconsider purchasing a new camera and buy a good carrying case this time around.
pd: normally fixing an electronic such as this one, is more expensive that just replacing it (getting a new one), since this producs are the result of mass production, then materials are cheaper when sold to the manufacturer and builder. So getting a piece of replacement specifically for YOU is going to be RIDICULOSLY expensive.

what is SLR short for?

The single-lens reflex (SLR) camera uses an automatic moving mirror system which permits the photographer to see exactly what will be captured by the film or digital imaging system, as opposed to non-SLR cameras where the view through the viewfinder could be significantly different from what was captured on film.
