best western to buy
on June 8, 2008

christian bale is probably one of the best, if not-the best actor of our time. just think about it:this movie, american psycho, the new batman movies, the prestige and no this. crowe gives one of his best performances as ben wade, a robber/murderer with his psychopathic second leader charlie prince played by ben foster. bale and crowe first meet after crowe takes out a wagon to rob and crowe rides up to bale and his sons while their trying to round up their cattle. one of bales sons seems to like crowe a lot, almost more than his own dad(bale). throughout the movie, bale seems to hate and avoid crowe as crowe trys to talk some since into him. scince bale only has one foot, that makes the story even more intense as bale goes through all these harsh things(especially the end) as crowe trys make freinds with-or at least thats what you think hes trying to do. this movie has one of the most exciting endings ive seen in a while and its a little chaotic. the action is properly paced and the run time is perfect. in other words, 310 to yuma is probably the best western ive ever seen. and yes ive seen the good, bad, and ugly and ive seen unforgiven. if any western where to beat this one, it would be unforgiven, but this is still excellent. the blu-ray version is just as good as any other blu-ray movie. the ending is great and it really shows how much more likeable crowes character can be. but without giving anything away, the end is happy and sad.
What's great about it: bale and crowe, ben foster, end
What's not so great: hotel scene at the end takes forever

stallone at his best
on June 8, 2008

according to the special features, this is the most accurate movie as far as violence goes. i never knew that a 50 cal on the back of a truck can shoot people in half or chop down trees until i saw this. but even if it was unrealistic, its still pretty cool. stallones back in probably one of his best movies to date. npt just cuz of the action and gore, but his performance, the grittiness and reality of the movie and of course its another rambo. now youd think that after like 20 years that a 4th rambo would make a lot more money than it did, but it made more than the box office numders. the openning week, meet the spartans came out and it made like 10,000 more than rambo did. kids bought spatan tickets and snuck into rambo. so really, theres no telling how much it actually made. anyway, theres still a few flaws this time round. they wanted to be as accurate as they could with violence, but they will never accomplish that if 'school boy' shoots people with a sniper and they go flying back 10ft. but stallone is still pretty convincing cuz hes tired, angry, and depressed. that stuff actually happens in burma by the way. and the mercenaries british leader guy cracked my up but does cross the line a bit. tombstone was cool. the great thing about rambo is that its not you routine action movie. its more like die hard where the characters performance really sets the tone for every single sene. and sure rambo isnt all action but its still the best rambo sequel. of course nothing will ever beat first blood but this one comes close. and whats up with the title of the 2nd one:first blood part two. they couldnt just call 2nd blood or rambo 2. anyway with stallone being the director, this gives rambo an extra boost. and for anyone who hasnt seen it, dont judge it just because stallone directed it. and what really sets this installment apart from the other ones, is that he does the best he can to save these other characters and almost fails more than once. and this is one of those movies where you shouldnt go see it just because the trailer was action packed. this is like i am legend. but its only and hour and a half long wich i hated but thats how it is. but what action there is, it is so over the top and sooo intense but still maintanes realism. the best scene without a doubt(not a spoiler) hes on the 50 cal for like 15 minutes rippin the burma army to shreds. just one other thing bothered me other than the run time, and that was the music. yea sure its rambo music but they couldve changed it up just a lil bit. overall it was as good as it could be withouth being cheesey.
What's great about it: stallones classic performance, violent
What's not so great: run time,

i wish it was maybe 15 or 20 minutes longer but it made its point. thus is one of the movies where all the action is in the trailer. so dont see it expecting die hard. will smith gives one of the best performances of the year in this new york huanting epic. his dog sam does pretty good too even though they gave away sams 'moment' in the trailer. and what was wrong with the deleted scenes they had in the alternate version. anyway i liked both endings but i liked the normal ending better. i saw a youtube video that reviewed this movie and it made no scince. this guy said the special effects where awful and it was too over ther top and intense and that will smith had no reason to hate god. first of all, the CG was near perfect, it wasnt too intense at all, and anyone would hate god after a national tragedy like that happened. anyway, the scenes with no action(about 70% of the movie) where still interesting. and the 3 of 4 action scenes it had where great. they had just the right amount of intensety and scares. theres 2 great action sequences here. when he was looking for sam in the building-sure it might not have that much action in that scene but it built up suspense. and when will smith stabbed himself and tried to get away from the zombie dogs-that was good. the other 2 big scenes(the loading dock) and (his house) where pretty well done too. just the silence of the movie is good. will smith(robert neville) isnt your tipycal action hero and for good reason, it makes i am legend so much more believeable. thats why hes limping half the movie. the blu-ray version of this is the same as any other blu-ray movie, and thats a good thing.
What's great about it: will smith, sam, CG, music, 2 endings
What's not so great: run time

denzel and crow are 2 of my favorite actors. this movie has good stories for both of the characters even the focusing point is denzel. sure the movie can be racist from time to time but its based off reality. its a great and gritty look back at frank lucass life. and im was so frustrated when it didnt even get nominated for best picture. it was better than all the movies that got nominated(ahem-no country for old men).the shootout in the apartment complex was extremely well done. i thought it was cool when denzel walked up to that guy on the sidewalk and shot him in the head in front of everybody and just went on with his business, and in the beginning when he burned that guy and then shot him. american gangster was without a doubt the best movie of 2007 with the two actors who didnt even get mentioned at the oscars. i mean come on, crow had a realistis family problem and acted like a cop and denzel was really convincing as a gangsta. all the scenes with denzel in another country for drug dealing where pretty good, too. but dont forget josh brolin as that dirty cop or at least i think thats what he was. he does a good too. but was all the naked people in the drug houses really neccesary, i mean i know they had to do that so they wouldnt steel but seriously. cuba gooding jr does pretty good, too.

why is this movie only like an hour and twenty something minutes, other than that is was great. the home video effect to the movie worked good. and special effects are amazing for this type of filming and it looks like your actually there cuz its on blu-ray. a lot of critics call movies heartpounding or breath taking. well this movie is actually both of those because its so realistic. the unknown actors are actually pretty good including Hudd the camera guy. but i couldve seen this movie having a lot of different ending even thought 2 different endings to it already. i hope the sequel is the same thing but from someone elses point of view in new york. its cool how previous recordings are seen when hudd is filming, too. the special feature are ok because nothing really tells you more than what you already know, but the bloopers are funny.

bruce willis is still the best action hero ever. his age and performance make all the unrealistsic stuff believable and story is one of the best in a die hard movie. tim olyphant couldve been a lil bit deadlier but his still pretty good. maggie q beats the crud out of bruce willis. justin long is a charming slacker. but you dont get to know lucy macclane at all. all the visual effects are great along with the acting and the funny relationship between ferrel and macclane-they both have some pretty good one liners. the best sequel of the die hard series by far. the order best to worst is:die hard, live free, with a vengance, and die harder. the spaecial features arent bad but the interview with kevin smith and bruce willis with straight out boring. and its cool that they reveal the the car flip in the tunnel was real.
What's great about it: bruce willis, action, story
What's not so great: villain couldve been just a lil better

only some of the action is unrealistic, but Bruce willis makes it believable just because of his age and performance. mcclane gets in some fights in this new installment and he literally fights for his life. this is what makes him the best action heroes of all time. tom gabriel played by timothy olyphant is a great actor but not menacing enough but hes still good in this. justin long is pretty good as the charming slacker. maggie q beats the crud out of macclane in one scene bruce willis is still playin that awsome cocky cop. the unrated version isnt as good as the rated sadly because some scenes are a little different and the tunnle scene had bruce saying a line that sounds like an Allstate commercial (after hes kills the chopper with the car). but at least his famous line isnt cut out of the unrated version.
