When it comes to gaming performance, the slightest disadvantage can be the difference between winning and losing a match. With a 165Hz refresh rate, lightning fast 1ms (GTG) response time and full adaptive G-Sync compatability and FreeSync Premium support, you can be sure that the Odyssey G50A won’t let you down on the battlefield.

Great for Gamers, Not for Everyone
on May 10, 2022

The primary benefits of this monitor are its excellent refresh rate and rapid response time. If you're a PC gamer and absolutely insist on stellar, smooth gameplay with no tearing, this is definitely an option to consider. The monitor is also FreeSync and G-SYNC compatible. Input delays or lag are imperceptible, or basically non-existent. For business or other users, however, you might get more value out of a different monitor choice that doesn't emphasize gaming-specifoc features as much.
Build Quality:
The monitor itself is well constructed, but the stand and plastic ring assembly is a little weak. This thing will wobble, so make sure you intend to keep it largely stationary if you're interested in buying it. The included stand does permit screen rotation, though, so if you like vertically scrolling shooters, you'll love the setup.
Ports:
Only one HDMI port and a DP port. The DP port is 1.2, which is fine for the price point. Still, I really wish two HDMI ports had been standard.
Screen Quality:
Excellent brightness and minimal black bleeding. Colors are uniform across the display and edges and viewing angles are decent. There's a anti-reflective layer attached that helps with reflections in bright environments, and it doesn't seem to impair text quality or legibility. Colors seem a bit cold, though, and require some tweaking from factory defaults. Users can adjust color accuracy in the monitor settings, which given the bluish tint to whites you may want to during initial setup. All in all, above average, but not best in class.
Screen Responsiveness:
This is where the monitor really shines. It can handle anything you throw at it, be it current gen consoles or really demanding PC games. Images remain consistently smooth and responsive regardless of source, so if you're a gamer, you should check this monitor out.
Overall:
Since the real selling point of this monitor is the refresh rate and responsiveness, this monitor is really aimed squarely at gamers. You can get better color accuracy and displays from similarly priced monitors that don't boast a max refresh rate of 144 Hz, so if what you looking for is something for business or video editing, look elsewhere. Gamers, however, especially those who prioritize responsiveness and refresh rate, won't be disappointed (except for perhaps there being only one HDMI port).

You Get What You Pay For
on May 5, 2022

How Often Used:3-5 times a week
Audio is actually surprisingly good for a device this inexpensive, though bass is seriously muted. Treble comes through clearly enough, and calls are audible and clear enough. The buds are well-constructed, and button response (more on that in a minute) is satisfying.
The charging case is nice, too, with a compact design and tight-fitting lid (micro USB, though, not USB-C).
However, as you might expect, these buds are NOT battery champions. If you need long battery life, you'd best look for a more expensive model. I got about three hours out of these before they simply gave out.
Shorter battery life you can live with, if your primary intended use is short runs or a regular workout. What you'll find really annoying, however, is the somewhat obtuse controls. Each bud is controlled by a single, central button, and functions are activated based on how long you press it in. Believe me, you will accidentally turn a bud off in your ear, or mess up the volume, or do something else that leaves you poking at a single ear repeatedly like you're undergoing some kind of mine training. You pretty much have to "set and forget" these when you first get ready to use them, because you don't want to fiddle with the settings after the fact. Pairing is a breeze, though, so at least there's that.
Still, you do get some pretty good value for the price. If cumbersome controls or short battery life are deal breakers, then you'll need to spend more, but if you just need something for the gym or a run, this is a great option.

Very quiet and excellent filtration
on January 24, 2022

This device is great at what its main purpose is - filtering the air in your home or office. Filtration strength was pretty impressive (tested against pets and regular rounds of cooking), and the selectable fan speeds mean you can apply the right amount of filtration that you need.
This air purifier is practically silent at its lowest setting and operates at a reasonable volume at its highest setting. The neighboring voice assistant (a mini model mind you) sitting right next to the air purifier is louder. The device truly seemed to make an improvement in my town home; I imagine in larger areas the device might not produce the same results, but in a 322 sq. ft living room I could notice a real difference in air quality after using the air filter for an hour. The air filter was particularly good at sorting out the kind of daily odors a typical household is likely to generate (i.e. kitchen odors), which is great since I can't really open my windows during winter.
The device is reasonably discreet and can tucked into small locations, which is a huge asset in smaller homes like mine. A timer function can be set to have the unit turn on or off after certain designated intervals, which is a nice bonus if you have to place the filter someplace where you don't want to be fiddling with the controls.
The only drawback is the fact that the filter has to be replaced every quarter to half year. The prefilter is washable ,but the main filter simply has to be replaced once it becomes too "occluded" to be useful. Something to bear in mind for those interested.

Excellent for the money

These are a pretty awesome alternative to the more expensive modes that don't compromise much on functionality. The sound reproduction is excellent; there's an expected loss of bass and detectable compression, but the mid range and high frequencies sound excellent. The noise insulation and cancellation are actually outstanding - I had my wife use these just to check, and there was nothing audible coming from the earbuds. These little buds truly wrap you in a self-enclosed bubble of sound, and effectively shut out outside noise. Microphone signals on calls are also great; no one I spoke to complained of my voice being either faint or hard to make out.
Build quality is better than you think when you first take the earbuds out of their charging egg. They certainly look plasticky, but they're actually pretty solidly built. Battery life is also very good, and charging times are reasonably brief Be advised, though - the charging pod does not use a USB-C input, so keep some old cellphone chargers nearby.
Setup is a breeze and I never lost a Bluetooth connection, so Bluetooth signal strength is very good.
The only minor quibble with these earbuds is the somewhat finicky touch controls. Perhaps I'm just clumsy, but I had a little trouble getting all my touch commands to register correctly. This is a negligible issue though, and doesn't detract from the overall value of these earbuds.
Highly recommended.

The indoor Nest Cam knows the difference between a person, pet, and vehicle, and alerts you about the things that matter to you, instead of the things that don't. 24/7 live view shows you what’s happening from anywhere.* With 3 hours of free event video history, you can go back and see what you missed. And it comes in different colors to fit your style. The indoor Nest Camera requires the Google Home app and a Google Account – it’s not compatible with the Nest app or the home.nest.com site.

Great camera, excellent integration

Strongly recommended for anyone thoroughly invested in Google's software ecosystem. You can now check on your camera using the same port you use to check on your digital assistant or tweak your smart lights. Image quality is good; there's a degree of pixelation and image noise, but clarity and image sharpness are actually very good. The customizable alerts are a real selling point, as well. I can designate areas where my cat is likely to cause trouble and get notifications immediately when he's about to get himself in trouble. You can also get notifications about doors opening or other areas within the viewing frame that you create events for. The camera provides complimentary three-hour cloud storage; anything beyond that requires a separate subscription. This could be a deal-breaker for some, but the subscription is reasonably inexpensive and that three hours is coupled with customizable notifications that will enable you catch serious problems if your alerts are set to be as insistent as possible. You can, of courses stream live video for free at any time. If you want to watch your house or apartment while away for a long period of time with recorded history, you can activate a subscription on an as-needed basis. Special features like Familiar Face detection are only available with a subscription.
For people worried about privacy, the device itself stores sensitive info like biometric data (for the aforementioned Familiar Face feature), so you get a layer of security with this camera that you simply don't with cheaper alternatives.
Perhaps the best aspect of this device is the ability to customize your own event triggers that you can use as search criteria when viewing your video history. Users have a huge degree of control over how the camera records activity. You can even opt to have the camera linked to your phone in such a way that the camera will only turn on when a linked device (your phone) is out a defined proximity range. Creating Activity Zones for the camera to recognize is also effortlessly accomplished within the app.
The only drawbacks, in my view, are some slight complaints about the physical construction of the camera and its pedestal. It pivots adequately, but I was hoping for a more generous range of motion with the pivot. The camera seems sturdy enough, but I'm not sure it would survive a drop onto a really hard surface if it fell off the included wall mount. This is unlikely to happen, though, given how comparatively light and small the camera is.
If you already use other Nest products (or the Google Home app to manage other things like smart lights), get this camera. The price is worth the convenience and excellent integration with Google Home services.

Major concerns - make sure you have a small nose!
on September 24, 2021
Posted by: Vespasian
from Philadelphia, PA
The AirPop mask is comfortable solidly constructed. There are plastic clasps around the ear loops that enable you to adjust the fit of the mask, which is a feature that ought to be mandatory.
However, the gelatin piece used to cushion the bridge of the nose continually permits air to escape through the upper part of the mask. As a glasses wearer, I was given regular reminders of this through my glasses continually fogging up. If this were a mask simply used to screen out pollen or low-level airborne threats, this would merely be a nuisance. But escaping air is a warning sign that a mask's seal is inadequate to ward off the more dangerous threats, such as Covid, that necessitate a lot of mask wearing in the first place. In oorder to prevent the spread of coronavirus, masks must retain a tight seal over the face and nose, and escaping air is indicative of leakage that compromises safety. I repositioned this mask multiple times over my face, and I adjusted the claps over the ear loops many times to prevent this air leakage, but I simply could not stop it. Perhaps I have an exceptionally large nose and my experience wasn't the same as an average user's would be. This serious design flaw is all the more upsetting, because everything else about the mask's build and construction is laudable. The material is solid and does permit comfortable air flow, and is much more durable than standard disposable surgical masks. The material comes close to cloth-grade, but is made of multiple permeable layers that filter incoming air while simultaneously permitting better flow. The material also seems durable and strong; I don't imagine this would rip or tear the same way that cheap paper masks would. The adjustable ear clasps are also excellent at securing the right fit for the face portion of the mask.
This would be a five-star item, if it weren't for the nagging problem of the cushioned nose piece compromising the mask seal and permitting too much air leakage from the top part of the mask. If you have a smaller nose, perhaps, this is the mask for you. But if you have an average-large nose (as I apparently do), the continual air leakagke will not only provide a constant fogging problem, but make you worry constantly that the mask is offering no protection. This is a real shame, because without this problem, the mask would be very good. Buyer beware.

Eye-searing color hampered by Fire software
on August 16, 2021
Posted by: Vespasian
from Philadelphia, PA
This TV is very much a mixed bag. The display is both intensely rich in color and unbelievably bright. Coming from an LCD panel, the contrast is remarkable. If you're used to "older" display panels in HDTVs, the difference here is analogous to that between AMOLED panels in smartphones versus LCD panels. Colors, just like AMOLED smartphones, are bright and extremely vivid but simultaneously saturated. Colors skew to the red and orange end of the spectrum on this set. If this is your preferred color temperature, you will absolutely love this display. Even the "natural" picture setting has an intensity that is wholly new to me, coming from LCD panels. If you want a set that can illuminate a dark room with robust color, the display will make you happy.
Sound is actually extremely impressive on this set, too. Just using the internal speakers audio is comparatively loud and well-balanced. You won't feel an immediate need to grab a soundbar with this TV.
Build quality is, well... good to very good. The entire frame is plastic, but it seems solidly built. There's a healthy array of HDMI inputs, too, if you need to connect game systems, BluRay players, and additional streaming devices. One positive that too few manufacturers pay attention to: the set is packaged very well and the screen is protected in its shipping box. That may sound silly to mention, but I've had to return more than a few TVs because of damaged displays resulting from bare bones packaging.
If there's a major fault to this set, it's the software it runs. The Fire TV software is simply not ready for prime time. In a misguided effort to simplify the user experience, the software automatically does some obnoxious things, like shut off the set if you pause a program for too long. Plus, the streaming apps built in generally take longer to load and are more prone to playback problems than are the apps on the streaming device I have connected to the TV. Yes, precisely because of the problem behavior seen in some of the built-in apps, I'm still using my streaming device, and if you get this set there's a good chance you might be doing the same, too. In addition, though this was expected from Fire OS being Amazon's proprietary software, don't expect to see the full range of apps that you would see on a Roku or Android TV device.
Beyond the performance of the streaming apps, Fire OS also makes things like granular adjustment of the television picture more challenging than other smart OSes do. This is my first Fire TV, and I'm kind of amazed, given how long Fire TVs have been in production, that there are so many issues with constrained functionality in the software. The best advice would be to get the set for the display panel, treat it like a dumb TV, and simply do your streaming through a dedicated streaming device.
In short, if you really want a display with the kind of saturated, intense color characteristic of an AMOLED panel (with excellent sound to boot), and you're patient enough to wade through the headaches imposed by the OS, you'll be very happy with this television. The whites will absolutely blow you away the first time you see them (especially if you use this set in a completely dark room). If you prefer the cooler blue tones of an LCD panel, you;d best look elsewhere. For the asking price, though, this TV does produce a picture like sets that cost far more. Just be prepared to be cursing the OS if you pick this model up.

Great For All-Purpose Use
on July 9, 2021

Excellent for Zoom meetings and other teleconferencing platforms. The headphones are comfortable and the adjustable strap makes allowance for people with bigger heads (e.g. me,). The earpieces are top-notch and produce excellent dynamic range. Sound fidelity is pretty remarkable; I could hear every conversation with perfect clarity, and could even pick up my coworkers' background sounds in their respective houses (something my computer speakers have never been able to do). Listening to music after work meetings really revealed what the headphones can do. Bass was surprisingly deep and powerful, and when the headphones are dedicated to a single audio source (instead of being in Zoom before a meeting starts and listening to mp4s at the same time), the software really provides you with some impressive dynamics.
The microphone is actually really good for a rotary arm mic as well. Simply rotate it up to mute yourself.
Beyond the audio quality, the headphones feature some pretty good quality of life improvements in their design. A button control midway through the power cord is easily accessible and allows you to adjust the volume and hot mute both discreetly and easily. No more struggling to reach mute before you cough.
Honestly, these are considerably better than I had hoped, and put most other types of headphones, including gaming headphones at similar price points, to shame. I now have an easier time recording audio for PowerPoint presentations than I did with using a dedicated microphone. That's pretty impressive.
Strongly recommended for anyone who has to use one of the many teleconferencing platforms on a regular basis. You won't be disappointed.

Best for students and business use
on May 11, 2021
Posted by: Vespasian
from Philadelphia, PA
This laptop is great for students, business, and general users, but gamers and video content creators will need something more powerful.
The laptop is well built, and surprisingly heavy (relative to other 14-inch models), and thankfully includes little raised rubber extensions on the base to provide some room for ventilation when the laptop is sitting on a flat surface. These 2-in-1 models always place the exhaust ports in the worst possible locations, so some clearance on the base is welcome. The hinge is solid, and the laptop can be used well enough in tablet mode (though the weight means you'll probably be gripping it with both hands). The laptop comes with adequte RAM and SSD storage, but the SSD is a bit on the small side (256 gb).
Nothing that an expansion drive can't fix. The speakers are good, and provide detailed audio reproduction, even if they never reach home stereo system volumes. The microphones are fine for teleconferencing or remote learning use. The mics work fine both on Zoom and recodiing audio tracks for PowerPoint presentations.
Performance wise, there seem to be a few little OS hiccups here and there, which is undoubtedly due to the Ryzen chip, but the device is plenty fast for any task that a college student could conceivablyy throw at it (including programming and application development, which I was able to pull off without a problem in Android Studio). There are no issues with slowdown or memory running short when multiple programs are running, and the odd performance drop is pretty much what any veteran of Windows-running-on-AMD is used to.
The one disappointment with this laptop is the screen quality. It's full 1080p on a 14-inch screen, so no pixels are visible, but color reproduction is undeniablyy on the cool or cold side. Colors just aren't as vibrant as they are on some other display panels on laptops in this price range. There's nothing fundamentally wrong with the display, but if you prefer really saturated colors you might be let down.
The build quality and general speed of the laptop, plus the ample port selection (yes, there is an HDMI connection), make this a great choice for first-time college students who need a reliable laptop that's going to last 4-5 years and aren't set on Apple. Given how many college web-based applications run better using Windows software, this is a better (and cheaper) choice than certain luxury brands which cost twice as much. One thing to stress to college kids, though - this is not a a gaming laptop. Try running some titles that play perfectly well on a last-gen game console and you'll notice some frame drops. This is more of a workhorse laptop, great for student and business use. If you just need a reliable laptop that will hold out for four years+, and you're not looking to start editing your own movies on your computer, you'll have no issues here.

This M.2 drive is excellent value for the money. You won't get top-tier speeds, but I was hovering around 2 gigs + write and read speeds, so I'm not complaining. The included Magician software makes optimization a breeze as well. This is a definite improvement over similarly priced 500 gb standard 2.5" drives, so if your laptop (or desktop) supports the slot, get this drive.

How many layers are there? What materials are used in each layer?

There seem to be at least three layers, and the material is primarily nylon and polyester. Great if you have a medium to small nose, not so much otherwise.

Does this filter out covid? Otherwise it's useless!

I encountered continual air leakage from the upper part of the mask, which would indicate that the mask is not filtering out Covid at all. The material is good quality and would provide better protection than standard face masks if this weren't a problem.

Your filter options used to include "depth with stand". Is this still an option?

I have a tight mantle space where depth and overall height are the two main factors in my choice, but your filter options no longer include these? Am I looking in the wrong place or did you decide to remove these options?
The stand adds about 1-1/2 to 2" to the rear of the TV, so you can use that as an approximate guide.

Can Alexa along with any and all microphones be disabled? Is the only microphone on the remote or is there one built into the TV? I don't want my TV/Amazon listening to me.

You have to hold a button down on your remote in order to activate Alexa, so yes, you can effectively disable it by never using the feature. The "listening" seems to be done on the remote's end, so the TV won't pick up any audio from you if you're not trying to use Alexa.

The Shark UltraCyclone Pet Pro+ is a cordless handheld vacuum designed for powerful suction. It comes with a motorized self-cleaning Pet Power Brush that eliminates hair wrap, a lithium-ion battery, CleanTouch dirt ejector, and more, at only 2.8 lbs.

How long is the battery duration?

Not that long if used constantly, but when used in bursts or short sessions it's good. I don't have an exact number.

Exercise to a soundtrack with these Jaybird Tarah Pro wireless sport headphones. Featuring a comfortable secure-fitting design and reliable waterproofing, these headphones stay in place during vigorous activity and stand up to sweat and bad weather. These Jaybird Tarah Pro wireless sport headphones last through the longest workouts with up to 14 hours of battery life per charge.

I have the x3 and the cord sticks to some of my clothes. Is this the same or does the new cord material work better?

I had no trouble with the cord for the Tarah Pro sticking. The braiding could perhaps attach to any clothing that has small, protruding fibers, like a sweater, but not on a sweatshirt or T-shirt.

What is the difference between this Netgear Universal Wi-Fi range extender and the Netgear AC750 Wi-Fi extender?

What is the difference between this Netgear Universal Wi-Fi range extender and the Netgear AC750 Wi-Fi extender?
The Netgear Universal WiFi Range Extender broadcasts the a/b/g/n WiFi standards, while the Netgear AC750 broadcasts the newer ac standard. Most WiFi-ready equipment uses the N standard (or something older), so unless you own a device that's capable of receiving ac wifi signals (and you have a fast enough internet connection that'll let you see the speed difference), you're better off with the Universal (i. e. non-ac) extender. Ac-capable routers still run in the +$100 dollar range, so unless you already own one, it's best to hold off on ac extenders.
