Good headphones for gaming
on August 16, 2018
Posted by: Robb0688

Pros: Comfy headphones. Very light and barely noticeable once you have them positioned right. The ear cups make a nice seal around your ears and do block out a fair amount of ambient noise. The microphone is super flexible and can be positioned easily, or removed if you just want to have headphones. The Dolby Atmos feature is pretty cool, but until it's adopted by every game and movie, it's hard to call it a selling point because there aren't a lot of Atmos sources at this point. The volume dial is convenient, but....
Cons: The master volume is relatively low. I've turned it to the maximum setting on the dial and it only gets to what i would call a normal volume. Maybe I just need more time to work with them, but until this point I can't figure out how to make it louder. I don't want to deafen myself, but I can tell these 'phones could pack some punch and I'd like to hear it in some instances. Without getting to hear them a little louder, it's hard to rave about the sound quality as it has sounded a bit muddy in my initial tests. Maybe more oomph would bring out the highs? Lastly, the packaging isn't anything that makes you feel like you're unboxing something special, but that's the tiniest of gripes and doesn't factor into my star rating at all, just something I thought when opening it (shown in images).
Verdict: they do sound good, are incredibly comfortable to wear, and have some cool features so I would recommend. If they were louder and were slightly less muddy sounding, I would give them the 5th star.

Great Entry Level Receiver
on February 27, 2018
Posted by: Robb0688
from Minneapolis, MN
SUMMARY: I am new to the A/V receiver world, but this receiver more than meets my needs. At 145W per channel, supporting up to 5.2 channels, this is more than enough receiver for me. I would never use two subs given that I share walls with neighbors, but it's great to have the option. Solid, clean sound, easy to set up and use. Would recommend
Pros: Aside from sounding and working great, 4 HDMI inputs, all HDCP 2.2 ready, which is great because it essentially makes this future proof if you have yet to jump up to a 4K set up. The HDMI out to the TV is ARC ready. This stands for Audio Return Channel and simplifies the connection to the TV if your TV also has an ARC-ready input. You don't need the digital audio optic cable in that case. Tons of presets for sound stages and lots of options for tweaking sound to your liking. Comes with a radio antenna if you like FM radio as well as a calibration mic to calibrate your surround system. Also I find the design to be very sleek and minimal, which is a plus.
Cons: It's big and heavy, which is a good sign when it comes to audio equipment, but still takes up a fair amount of room. Small gripe, but the speaker connections for your center channel and surrounds are the standard clip-in that holds the bare end of the wire. The left and right front channels are compatible with banana plugs, which make plugging in/out easier, but it's a small complaint.

Great Little Speaker
on December 11, 2017
Posted by: Robb0688
from Minneapolis, MN
When I got this speaker, I was surprised by how small the box was. It was then my hopes for full, rich sound slumped. I opened up the box to find a tightly packaged, well-protected speaker, which is a plus in the days of online shopping and subsequent shipping. I plugged it in and was thoroughly impressed by the sound I was getting over just Bluetooth (I was eager to get it going). After listening to a song or two, I decided to connect it to the wifi for the full experience: casted music and voice commands. This is where the speaker shines. Casted music isn't compressed like Bluetooth and because of this, all your songs sound much fuller and richer. Deeper bass and sharper highs come out when casting. Also, by setting it up, you get access to speech commands and that is a huge help. Make no mistake, this is still a small, all-in-one speaker, so don't expect home theater sound, but for its size, it's quite impressive. The Google assistant is great and can be very helpful. From telling jokes, flipping a coin, playing music and radio stations, to providing estimated commute times, I'm impressed.
A couple cons to note: I do think it's a tad expensive at $250, but seems to have been on sale since release at $200, which is a bit better. Another is the Google Home app that sets it up. It's not the quickest and doesn't always work the best. I can't really ding JBL for it, but it's worth noting. For example, today it kind of randomly forgot my account was linked, so it couldn't tell me about my commute. Not sure what was going on. Worked just a bit later though. Just kind of odd. At least the mics seem to pick you up well and consistently from considerable distance. Lastly, when I first played it, it was sitting on a granite countertop, which degraded the sound quality a bit. Holding it up in the air on my hand actually helped the sound, which makes sense; most speakers are elevated. Maybe JBL could include/sell a small pedestal to get it off the surface it's on? Just a thought.
All in all, a great speaker that I am happy with

Big, powerful blender
on October 25, 2017

If you're into having nice things in the kitchen, this blender is for you. I've been really impressed with it so far and honestly can think of only one con, which is it's size. It's powered by what I assume must be a twin turbo v6. All jokes aside, it is a pretty good sized appliance (as seen in the photo, comparing it to the ancient relic it's replacing), but that's ok because the performance is commensurate with the size. It has handled everything my wife and I have thrown at it with ease and speed. The different settings are great for creating the textures they're supposed to and can be relied on to make the dish correctly. The self-clean cycle is really handy and easy to use and definitely beats disassembling it to put in the dishwasher. Because it's self cleaning, the blades are built into the big pitcher, and because of that, there's no chance of leaks, which is nice. The pitcher locks very firmly to the base with a satisfying click. Despite it being a touch loud, it doesn't feel any louder than any other blender I've used. It has suction cups to hold it in place and is sturdy when running at full speed. It definitely feels very well made. This should be the last blender I ever need.

Solid Remote. Could benefit from extra features
on August 19, 2017
Posted by: Robb0688
from Minneapolis, MN
I would give this remote a B+. It's better than mediocre, but not quite elite or flawless. I'll start with the pros
Pros: First off, the packaging gets a "pro". While this might sound ridiculous, its perforated blister packaging is a blessing. Anyone who has ever poked or cut themselves wrestling a blister pack open knows where I'm coming from. It's also nice they throw in the required batteries. With the actual remote, the build quality is nice, the buttons have a nice feel and seem like they would hold up well. Setup is easy and quick. Logitech's database of devices is vast and had my 3 devices (Xbox One, Samsung TV, and Comcast cable box). Adding devices is pretty simple, as well as adding functions. Teaching it new commands is also simple. Just point your existing remote at the back of the Harmony and it'll learn the command where you can then drag and drop the command to the desired button on the remote.
CONS: It's not terribly intuitive to use the software and add functions and it's not necessarily clear how to remap the pre-made activity buttons. It can be figured out, but it takes a bit of trial and error. You can't make any changes to the remote from the remote itself. You have to use the MyHarmony software and then sync any commands. In addition, the remote screen layout is filled with randomly selected commands based on the device you've synced to the remote. These can be rearranged, but some are just clutter and don't do anything. Lastly, I wanted to map the "play music" button to launch Pandora on my Xbox One, and the "watch movie" button to launch Netflix on my Xbox One as well, but found that operations such as that are too complex for this remote. Maybe the higher-tier Harmony remotes would do that, but this one does not, as far as I can tell. I haven't given up on adding those features, but I haven't found anything that would leave me to believe it's possible. Would probably earn 5/5 stars if it was capable of that.
All in all, it takes a little getting used to and learning, but it's pretty easy to teach and so far has successfully replaced the remotes for the 3 devices I have. A little added functionality would get the 5th star.

They're back!

As others have said, this album is full of amazing instrumentation from frenetic guitar solos, pounding drum tracks and catchy riffs. The songs are great and have been worth the wait. I will say some stand out more than others and it becomes apparent in a few places that Metallica is a riff-first, lyrics-later type of band when they write songs. If you like Metallica at all, you'll really like this album. On the heaviness scale, I'd say it lands somewhere between the Black Album and ....And Justice For All. Similar to Death Magnetic in sound, but often a slower tempo.

Work, rest and play with the Samsung Galaxy S7 edge. A massive 5.5-inch Super AMOLED touchscreen goes all the way to the edges of the phone so that you get the maximum area possible to work with. Solid water resistance, great processing and masses of memory round out this Samsung Galaxy S7 edge.

Great Phone

Have had this phone since 3/12 and I love it so far. Gorgeous screen, snappy and fast (can be slightly faster if you absolutely hate TouchWiz by simply downloading "Google Now Launcher" or "Nova Launcher" from the app store. I like the look and feel of TouchWiz this time around, so I'll keep it until I have problems with it). The Gear VR support is more entertaining than I would've guessed, but I'm glad that was free. Haven't used the camera much to comment on it, but what I have taken turned out well. Always remember it's a cellphone camera anyways. You want take pro-level photos with any phone at this point. Verizon added some bloatware you can disable, but other than that the phone is virtually flawless. Get it. It looks amazing turned on or off.

Really fun, but resource-intensive

Fun, surprisingly immersive, and great value. My only gripe is that the apps are very intensive and it caused my phone to overheat, which prompted the headset to tell me to stop using and wait for it to cool. Not sure if my phone overheated, or if it overheated the VR. Either way, some improvements could be made. Can't complain too much. Mine was free with my GS7E.

I am new to this tech. Would like to have the voice assistance .Being this has bluetooth and wi-fi capabilities any limitations to this speaker? Want good sound and the ability to expand system in future. Thanks

It sounds like from other reviewers that there is a delay between video and sound if you pair this with a video source, so you can't watch movies on it yet. Being that it's wifi capable and has a chromecast built in, you can cast your music to it meaning you get better sound and the notification sounds from your phone won't interrupt your music anymore. I haven't gotten to test the expansion, but JBL does claim this can be linked to other JBL Link speakers for a multi-room music system, ala Sonos. I hope this helps.
