In technical terms, it's awesome.

The only reason I am giving this album 5 stars is because it includes the song "Cold Desert" on it. Don't get me wrong, it is a really good album, but almost too good. I like music a little rough and raw, and most of the songs on this CD seem very professional and clean, which normally I'm not into, but Caleb's voice is always there to put the edge back in to whatever they do. A lot of people say that with this album Kings of Leon have "sold out." I don't really understand that term, but if anything they've just matured and they shouldn't be at fault for growing with their music.
Anyway, back to "Cold Desert." I get chills everytime I listen to it, and just when you think it's over and it's fading out it comes back with Caleb's voice easing in again singing, "Here's to you.. here's to me.. on to us.. nobody knows, nobody sees.. nobody but me......." It's an extremely sad song but it's so beautiful, as most sad songs are.
Anyway, I would say if you're a Kings of Leon fan to definetly pick this up, but that's not really the case because most of their long term fans dislike this album, and I can see why, it's definetly more mainstream.. but I kind of saw that coming cause each album they put out went in that direction. In this bands case it isn't a bad thing though, while I do prefer their previous albums, this one is good to throw in whenever and still be listening to some great music.

Horehound > Sea of Cowards... still great album

Let me start off by saying that this is a really good album. What keeps me from giving it five stars is that I feel a little let down because in my opinion "Horehound" is much, much better.
I feel this album lacks a little Mosshart, where as the previous one was filled with her, and she is definetly my favourite member of The Dead Weather, having been a HUGE fan of The Kills for the past few years.
The songwriting hasn't changed, which is a good thing. This is the only band that I commend for being a tad repetative, they just make it work, I can't really explain how.
"Old Mary" is probably my favourite track, and also happens to be the last on the CD. Even though "Horehound" is one of my favourite albums, there is a track that I skip and I can't say the same about this one, all of them do it for me. There's a quieter feeling to this album and it's even more experimental than the previous one so more power to them.
But yes, if you liked "Horehound" I can't imagine you not liking "Sea of Cowards." It's a great follow up and to put out 2 really good albums within a calendar year is really impressive.
Here's hoping that The Dead Weather stick around!

Jeff Buckley was known for his soaring vocal range and his searing, emotional songs and performances. This DVD serves as impressive documentation of a Buckley concert from 1995. The digital transfer is flawless. The videotaped performances never seem less than immediate. Indeed, the bright spotlights translate perfectly to DVD, making the viewer feel right there. The clean, colorful visuals create a mood of intimate tangibility, the audio gives a most deserving representation of the entire concert, and Buckley's vocals slam into an unsuspecting listener/viewer with flaring passion. All 13 performances can be selected from the "Set List" menu. The "Discography" feature is a stills gallery of four album covers, with song titles listed to the side. The bonus acoustic songs, from a videotaped sit-down affair, are a slightly awkward attempt at an Unplugged atmosphere, but even when Buckley isn't in top form, his voice remains powerfully stunning. "The Electronic Press," a glossily produced, 17-minute mini-documentary, from the Grace period is the best special feature here. It is a genuinely enlightening and remarkably moving glimpse into Buckley's inspiration and art. Like his father before him, Jeff Buckley was a true talent who died with much music left to bestow. This live performance DVD is a most welcome, respectful ode to a gifted artist.

I'm so glad that this exists. Jeff Buckley is my favourite artist that I've ever come across and not ever having the chance to see him live has been been really tough for me to comprehend. This gives me a tiny little taste into what would have most likely been one of the best nights of my life. And it's in CHICAGO, and at the METRO. Sorry, but I live in Chicago and for me that makes this DVD even better.
If you were ever in question over whether or not Jeff was as good of a performer as he was a recording artist then I think you're crazy, but even so you'll be won over by this DVD. Him and his band sound absolutely amazing, and the emotion on Buckley's face is beautiful.
Not only does this show contain an amazing live show of Buckley and band, but I also love the parts in between the songs. Whether it's a joke we don't quite get or Jeff saying "F*** off!" to an audience member, you realize that Jeff Buckley was not only some amazing musician with a tremendous amount of soul and depth, but he also seemed to be a really fun guy with a great sense of humor.
And there's also some special features that shows Jeff backstage breifly after the show.. and him along with his bandmates performing live acoustic versions of "So Real" and "Grace" for JBTV.
This is definitely a must have for any Jeff Buckley fans, if not everyone in the world.

SIN-e

This is amazing. It's amazing that they released all these songs. Sin-e is where Jeff Buckley got his start and I'd give anything to have seen him play there back in the early 90's, so this is the closest I'll be able to get.
What I like best about this is the fact that it's live, that these were moments that were recorded but taken from an actual setting, an actual day and night. No second takes. It is what it is and what it is is beautiful.
Van Morrison is another love of mine, and on here he covers not one but TWO of his songs off of Astral Weeks, which is my favourite Van Morrison album. So basically Jeff Buckley has the key to my heart.
He covers a number of amazing songs on this CD including Billie Holiday's "Strange Fruit," and Nina Simone's "Be My Husband" which Jeff has changed to "Be Your Husband" and it consists of only his voice and what sounds like a combination of clapping and stomping, definetly one of my favourite tracks and a perfect way to start a performance.
I definetly could go on, and I will a little, the versions of some of the songs that are also on Grace are really good on this CD, especially if you like solo Jeff.

SKETCHES
on July 4, 2010

It's hard to tell you what I really think of this album because of the love I have for Grace, Jeff's debut album. This is technically, and unfinished "sketch" of what would have been his sophmore release, and he was definetly not making a second Grace, which as an artist is good. Jeff Buckley is my favourite musician, so I can't completely listen to this album without being a little biased.
The tracks thats definetly stick out are "The Sky is a Landfill" and "Everybody Here Wants You." The first being a grungier darker song and the second sounding a little R&B while being extremely romantic and beautiful.
Sure, those stick out, along with Vancouver, a song Buckley often played on tour before the recording of it, and a great song mind you.. but the songs you should really listen to are "Yard of Blonde Girls," "Morning Theft,(My favourite, the lyrics are amazing)" and from the second disc, "Haven't You Heard."
I am glad that they included the second disc of rough recordings to show you where he was heading with the re-recording of it, his cover of "Satisfied Mind" is strong and heartbreaking.
I was hesitant to listen to this since a friend of mine had told me that it wasn't very good. I didn't want my opinion of Jeff altered as being an amazing musician. There's more of his personality on this album, more Jeff Buckley, and lyrically the songs go further. While this album doesn't hold the same meaning to me that Grace does, it definetly holds its own and gives us a much needed taste of what he would have done next, even if it is just sketches.
What's great about it: Jeff Buckley
What's not so great: It's the last thing we have of him

Must have

While Damien Rice is an amazing musician in himself, what really won me over with this album is Lisa Hannigan. I literally have no words to describe her voice. Literally, I can't think of any that seem fitting. Maybe delicate, maybe soft, maybe honest, but if none of those then the least I can say is it is beautiful.
But, of course I can't just gush about Lisa because it is a Damien Rice record, and he deserves to be gushed about as well. I first got a taste of him from the film "Closer" which of course made his song "The Blowers Daughter" quite popular. After that, I was hooked. My favourite tracks off this album are definetly "Cold Water," which is a beautiful and sad song with a ton of emotion, and 'I Remember," a song that you will no longer recognize by the end of it. It starts with Lisa's soft voice, solo, and then about 3 minutes in Damien starts in with a heavier voice and then later even heavier music. It's absolutely astounding and I'm getting shivers just talking about it.
This is definetly an album you won't forget about.
What's great about it: Everything & Lisa Hannigan
What's not so great: Nothing

ADVENTURELAND

Lets just say that I now have a girl crush on Kristen Stewart. She plays the role of Em in a simple way, but she comes off so extremely cool and sexy and real that you completely believe her and love her.
Jesse Eisenberg should not be compared to Michael Cera, they are in fact different people, and the only similarities I see are hair colour. Plus Jesse has been put down for trying to act like Michael when in fact Jesse's been around longer.. he just didn't star in some slightly overrated film that put him on the map soon enough.
Anyway, this movie is great. If you liked Pretty in Pink, if you liked The Breakfast Club, if you liked Sixteen Candles, FINALLY.. here's something for you.
Also, like someone else said, don't expect Superbad all over again. It's much more than that.. and still, IT'S HILARIOUS. I love you Kristin Wig! and Bill Hader!
What's great about it: Story line, Kristen Stewart
What's not so great: Can't think of anything

It's Led Zeppelin, come on...

I feel like I don't have the right to say anything about this album at all, even though I have nothing but good things to say.
In one word, AMAZING. In a few more, LED ZEPPELIN. Who doesn't like Led Zeppelin? Personally I don't know anyone, and this is definetly my favourite record that they ever released.
First off, it's a two disc, and sometimes less is more but that is not the case with this album.
For people who want Kashmir, it's here. For people who want to branch out and expierience all that they have to offer, IT'S DEFINETLY HERE. My favourite tracks are "In The Light," (such a shame they've never played in live.) The sounds throughout this song are way ahead of their time. And "Ten Years Gone" is another absolutely amazing song that Plant wrote about lost love.
These are long songs, and they're better because of it. If you're thinking about getting into Led Zeppelin, there's no better way to start.
Well, maybe make sure you know "Whole Lotta Love" first.
What's great about it: Led Zeppelin, 2-Discs
What's not so great: Nothing, and remember, you're getting two discs so it's worth the price!

She's a stranger

This album is good everytime and everywhere. It's so much fun and makes you want to jump around and dance, but not in a main-stream way. It's different and funky and Bjork really knows how to use her voice to your advantage.
The songs have a lot to them and a lot more than you would expect. This album is so elegantly titled and is the perfect way for Bjork to make her debut. She goes all over the place and it fits. No one else could pull this off quite as excellently as her.
The songs don't just have words but real feelings and emotions and lyrics. Definetly my favourite Bjork record, ~thus far.
No matter what I know or hear of and about Bjork, she's still a mystery and she's still original and sort of fascinating.. and that holds yoour interest more than anything.
What's great about it: Bjork
What's not so great: Nothing

Really good film with a bad rep

First off let me begin by saying that the press reviews of this film were extremely harsh and rather ridiculous. To say that this movie is "offensive" is to say that Titanic, or Pearl Harbor were offensive. Just because it's more present in our current generation doens't mean that the subject matter shouldn't ever be acknowledged. I can't really say much more without giving too much away. If anything, it should have been marketed differently, because the previews made it look a little like a drama/romance, but I feel that it's actually much more than that.
I don't really feel that Robert Pattinson needed to prove himself, but if you did then he's definetly done so in his role as Tyler in this film. The acting from the entire cast is really really good. And as a story, I think it was very emotional and well scripted.
I left the theatre in tears, and a friend in hysterics. Just thinking about it sends a shiver through my spine.. it's definetly a movie that stays with you. It's definetly sad and heartbreaking, and even scary, but it's also honest even in it's fiction.
What's great about it: The script
What's not so great: I was a little dissapointed in Tyler's mom, she wasn't the best actress in my opinion
