Favourite Damian Marley album
on July 13, 2011

Although Welcome to Jamrock was an AMAZING album, I can't help but to list Damian's earlier album as my favourite. There isn't one track on this album that I feel the need to skip, but there are a ton that I feel I need to replay, so it usually takes me about a day to listen to the entire thing.
It's nice that all of the songs on the album also have substance to them and aren't just soley based on s3x or drugs, even though both are mentioned on the album, it's in a different way than you would expect. Damian also goes on to talk about some politics and his faith in Rastafari, which is inspiring to say the least.
Damian Marley has had a big impact on my life and it started with this album (for me. there's also his first album Mr. Marley to consider), and has continued on in his next works as well, especially in his collaboration album with Nas entitled "Distant Relatives."
Key tracks? It's hard to say, but the ones I find myself listening to most often are "Halway Tree," "Paradise Child," "More Justice," "It Was Written," & "Stand a Chance/And Be Loved."
I encourage everyone to pick up a copy of Halway Tree. If anything it has some catchy beats and as always, the Marley boys know how to make a your hips move.
One Love.

Don't knock it

I waited for this album to be released for what seems like next to forever. When I first listened to it I was dissapointed. I had heard live versions of a few of the tracks when I saw them in concert and loved them, but when I heard the more "polished" versions I felt let down, everything seemed too clean.
It just wasn't what I was expecting.
Taking into account that Kings of Leon are probably my favourite band, I kept giving the album more chances, and now I feel like a total idiot for not loving it right away.
I had read that this album was closer to sounding like older Kings of Leon stuff, but I also feel like it stays in tune with Only By The Night as far as sound quality goes. I typically like really rough and raw music but I makean exception for this band. Besides, Caleb's voice is rough and raw.
My favourite tracks are definitely "The End," (you'll love it if you were a fan of Only By The Night) "Pyro," "The Face," "Back Down South," (this song sounds like an un-named hit) "No Money," and lastly, "Pickup Truck," a beautiful and romantic song that reaks of a southern man.
The deluxe edition is definetly worth the few extra bucks. It comes with an amazing remix of "Closer," and a song called "Celebration" that comes close to being one of the most interesting and amazing songs that the band has ever recorded. Also, if you've seen the beautiful video for "Radioactive" don't expect to hear the same version on the regular CD, it's only on the 2-disc version that you can hear the choir kids singing.
My favourite Kings of Leon album is still a toss up between Youth & Young Manhood and Aha Shake Heartbreak, just for the pure honesty and rawness that they contain, but this album is beautifully sequenced and showsus once again what this band can do and how've they grown so much as artists and musicians. It's especially apparent on "The Immortals," a song that literally scares me,
What's great about it: Kings of Leon
What's not so great: Too close to being perfect

Still grieving the tragic death of her parents, Elena Gilbert (Nina Dobrev) returns to Mystic Falls High School with hopes of reconnecting with her friends and nurturing what family she has left. All hopes of a normal year fade, however, when she meets Stephen Salvatore (Paul Wesley), a new student, and his brother, Damon (Ian Somerhalder). The siblings share more than just dark good looks, a deep interest in Elena - they're both vampires, and one of them won't stop until he's gotten a taste of Elena's blood.

This isn't Twilight.

When I saw previews for this show my first reaction was, "Another vampire show?" I also thought, "It's basically Twilight." Even after watching the first episode I was convinced it was Twilight in TV form with a few minor adjustments. I then sat down to watch the second episode in hopes of being able to make fun of it some more, but instead found myself liking it. After finishing the entire episode I now know it's a far cry from the Twilight franchise. It doesn't only deal with Vampires, but also witches as well, which I love.
Damon is definetly my favourite character, and of course it helps that he's gorgeous.
The acting is surprisingly good, and the episodes get better and better as the show goes on, which is definetly a good thing. I'm really excited about the second season and am really hoping that it doesn't pull an O.C. and suck.
This is by far one of my favourite TV shows and more people should watch it. Just because it came out last out of all the Vampire stuff doesn't mean it's any less good. Plus the books have been around for a while (though I haven't read them and have heard that they are very different from the TV show).
Also, this show gets really REALLY good around episode 15. It's good through out the entire series, but I didn't get super crazy about it til then.
Btw, TEAM DAMON. Hahah.

Love Kings of Leon

This album is awesome. It's rough which is great, and it has that first album feel to it. The one where it feels like you're meeting someone new (in this case the band). Even if you know Kings of Leon's newer stuff, hearing this feels like hearing them for the first time.
Best track? Trani. Definetly. It's one of my favourite songs, and hey get this.. Bob Dylan likes it.
This album is far from perfect but that's how it should be. Definetly reccommended, though I feel it might be a bit of an acquired taste.

Jeff Buckley, live.

I'm always one to look foward to new Jeff Buckley releases, especially since he only ever completed one full length album. In my opinion, Jeff was at his best when he played live. So this compliation of live performances from around the world is absolutely amazing. Thanks are definetly in order to Jeff's mom, Mary, for releasing these songs.
So yes, the CD alone would be worth my $25, but also included in the limited edition box set is a poster, 4 postcards featuring pictures of Jeff and his band, a DVD showing all the live performances from the songs that are featured on the CD, (so that you can not only hear them but see them as well) along with an array of special features and an intimate interview between Jeff and his photographer Merri Cyr, as well as the Amazing Grace documentary. This is what makes this release so wonderful. Amazing Grace gives you a little peak into who Jeff really was and what he did for the world through his music, while still keeping the mystery alive.
I would definetly reccommend this product and it's a must have for all Jeff Buckley fans, if not the entire world.
My favourite track is the nearly 13 minute version of Mojo Pin (which starts off with Chocolate as he often played this as an intro to it). It's so beautiful and so passionate. I especially love the added repition of "it's you."

When it originally aired in the mid-90s, My So-Called Life was greeted with critical acclaim and a ferociously loyal cult following for its sharp and layered depiction of coming of age as an American teenager at the end of the 20th century. Unfortunately, it was not met with spectacular ratings and was cancelled by ABC after only 19 episodes. Naturally, fans clamored for a proper DVD treatment, and in 2002, a complete series box-set was released. And while it finally allowed viewers to revisit the show, it was an imperfect release. The image quality left something to be desired and there was a lack of bonus features to accompany the episodes. Finally, with the release of this set from Shout! Factory, there is justice. Each episode has been digitally remastered and presented in Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround Sound. Moreover, there are a wealth of special features, including interviews, featurettes about the characters and music, and--best of all--cast and crew commentary on seven episodes. Once and for all, a dedicated fanbase has gotten what they'd long hoped for. This is the definitive My So-Called Life DVD release.

MY So-Called Life
on July 17, 2010

My So-Clled Life is probably my all-time favourite television show and I wasn't even around when it was actually on TV. Okay, that's not entirely true.. but I was busy being 5 years old. One night at like 4am I couldn't sleep and was flipping through channels and happened to land on The "N" which was airing re-runs of the show.. and after that night I would set my alarm for 3:45am so that I would be up in time to watch it from then on.
Angela Chase is probably the only fictional character that I could ever really relate to, and I still can. Claire Dane's just made her so real and imperfect that I fell in love. It was almost freaky how some of the things she said came straight from my own mind, but she said them better and made me realize so much. And of course, Jordan Catalano (aka Jared Leto) made me melt a little.
This show really makes you care about the characters. All of them. Angela's parents are just as relevant as the younger characters only they are an actual married couple with problems that don't seem to far fetched. And Rickie has my heart, I wish I had a friend like him.
I'm sort of obsessed with the 90s so that's also a plus. I love seeing all the clothes and hearing all the music. Plus this show always takes place during fall or winter and I love that.
It gives me the most comforting feeling to just put this show on whenever, I can't really explain it, but I feel at home.
I couldn't believe it when I saw the entire DVD collection in the Best Buy flyer a few years ago because I had looked into it online and everywhere said that it was discontinued. I will never understand how and why this show was canceled because it was so good and so beautiful and made you think. It touched on so many relative points and is one of the only shows that actually seems realistic.
You definetly should pick this up before they're gone cause I'm sure they won't make it forever.
My favourite episodes are definetly "Guns and Gossip," "The Zit," "Why Jordan Can't Read," "Self-Esteem," "Pressure," and "Life of Brian."
What's great about it: EVERYTHING
What's not so great: It was cut short and leaves you hanging a little

Darren Aronofsky's harrowing tale of drug addiction, Requiem for a Dream comes to DVD with a widescreen anamorphic transfer that preserves the original theatrical aspect ratio of 1.85:1. The closed-captioned English soundtrack is rendered in Dolby Digital 5.1. Supplemental materials include a commentary track featuring the director, a second commentary track by the cinematographer Matthew Libatique, deleted scenes with director commentary, a making-of featurette, production notes, theatrical trailers, television promos, and Ellen Burstyn interviewing Hubert Selby Jr., who co-wrote the screenplay that was adapted from his novel. This is a superb disc for both the film's many fans and DVD collectors.

Stays with you

This film is one of the scariest, real and most amazing film I've ever seen. The person who gave it one star because they didn't find it "entertaining," did not consider the film for what it is. It isn't your typical entertaing film. It's not the kind of movie you want to go sit down with your family and watch and expect to enjoy it. There are parts of this film that I have to fast forward through even, because it's hard to watch. Mainly the parts that deal with Ellen Burstyn's character because she is just alone.. and spiraling down slowly.
I'll admit, I first picked up this movie because Jared Leto was in it, and because I also find films that deal with addiction to be really interesting. Everyone's acting is incredible, and almost in a simple way. They all seem so real and I think that's why this movie has such a huge impact on me. Every character has some sort of pain and each actor portrays it honestly and beautifully.
I tried to read the novel but it gave me a headache because of the way it was written. (It doesn't have any quotations.) But if you can get through it I'm sure it's just as good as the film, if not better.
This movie doesn't have a happy ending, so if you're looking to see the type of film where everyone turns out okay don't, this isn't it. It's not a movie that I want to watch too often, and actually I haven't seen it in years. But it definetly sticks with you.
The music is also brilliant, it's so fitting with the movie and often makes it much more dramatic and terrifying.
It's just a really fantastic film, but not in the sense that it's happy and enjoyable. I mean that it's real and beautifully done even if it is a really upsetting film.
What's great about it: The acting/actors
What's not so great: Nothing.. but don't see it if you dislike sad movies

Solitude does this guy good

If I recall correctly I think I remember reading that he recorded this album in a cabin in the woods somewhere where he spent 3 months alone. This is what made me pick up the album originally because I wanted to hear what sort of music would come out of something like that, and I also grabbed it because "Skinny Love" was always in my head, and it's an extremely lovely song.
I talk about this a lot when it comes to musicians and bands that I love, but his voice is amazing. It sounds almost magical in it's high pitched soft-ish way.
My favourite tracks are "Lump Sum," "Blindsided," and "Re:Stacks." Each one are AMAZING. Especially "Re:Stacks," which is the last song on the record. My favourite line is "There's a black crow sitting across from me, his wirey legs are crossed.."
This is one of those albums that I often forget about, but it's not forgettable so there must be something wrong with me. It's not really one I can talk about, you just have to hear it.
Beautiful, beautiful music, and I can't wait to hear more from him.

This is the album that first got me into Kings of Leon, starting with the song "Milk" which I fell in love with instantley upon hearing it. I'd never heard a voice like Caleb's before and his vocals definetly make this band stick out.
There aren't any bad songs on this album, but that's the case with most of Kings of Leon's CDs. My favourites actually all come in a row and include "Soft," "Razz," "Day Old Blues(AMAZING)," "Four Kicks" and the albums closer "Rememo."
Anyway, this is a really really good CD, and my second favourite Kings of Leon CD (the first being Because of the Times.)

Favourite Kings album
on July 5, 2010

Like the title says, this is definitely my favourite Kings of Leon album. And in my opinion the best thing about this band is Caleb Followill's vocals. He has a voice like no one else and it's rough with a bit of a southern drawl at times and it's amazing, I absolutely love it. Some of his screams break and it makes the music seem more alive and more real.
Best tracks..
Okay, I'm a girl so of course I fall for "On Call" and "Knocked Up." Both are surprisingly romantic and again, his voice. HIS VOICE. I can't even describe it.
"Charmer" was the first song I heard off of this album and I immediatly loved it. It's rough and really gets your blood moving. Same thing goes for "Black Thumbnail," which has the catchiest chorus I've heard in a long time, but I don't expect anyone to agree with me on that. The first time I heard this song I put it on repeat.
All of the songs are amazing, but I also have to mention "Ragoo" and "Fans" as being two more songs that stand out to me on this album. The last lines of "Ragoo" are some of my favourite from this CD. "We ain't even been to the ocean, we've been running barefoot through the stream."
If I'm going to recommend any CD to anyone, this is one of them.
