Anyone who has ever lived in an urban area can readily attest to the inevitable pest problems that sometimes seem to go hand-in-hand with city life, though poor Joe's roach problem has reached entirely new heights in Warner Bros. release of the zany comedy Joe's Apartment. Presented in standard 1.33:1 pan-and-scan and featuring a closed-captioned English Dolby Digital Surround audio track, this release also offers an alternate French Dolby Digital Surround option. Though extra features are limited to scene selection and interactive menus, viewers are certain to enjoy the hilarious adventures of Joe and his resilient little roommates.

License to Drive finally makes its debut on DVD with Anchor Bay's fine Special Edition DVD release. Loaded with bonus features, the disc is a must-have for fans of the film and should prove to be a hot seller on the store racks. Presented in its original 1.85:1 widescreen format with Dolby Digital 5.1 sound, the film rips the '80s into big-screen, high-quality life. Extras begin with two separate interviews from the Coreys, each pretty in depth on the production, with Feldman's being a bit on the egotistical side, especially after you hear the real stories as told by director Greg Beeman and writer Neil Tolkin on the audio commentary. Fun, boisterous, and worth every listen, the two act like they're preaching to their kids as they jokingly point out such forgotten artifacts as vinyl records and audio cassettes throughout the film. Another gem on the disc comes in a full 13-minute deleted scene, which was shot but then tested poorly before production was called back for excessive reshoots (they opted instead to go with the drunk driver scene after the roadblock, oddly enough!). Other than that, add in two trailers and another pair of TV spots and you have the whole disc, complete with informative liner notes. Fans could ask for little more from 20th Century Fox and Anchor Bay on this exceptional DVD.

Martha Coolidge's teen film Valley Girl gets the deluxe treatment from MGM/UA on this release. The film is presented in a pair of transfers. The widescreen anamorphic transfer preserves the original theatrical aspect ratio of 1.85:1, and is preferable to the standard full-frame image. A closed-captioned English soundtrack is rendered in Dolby Digital 5.1, and a French soundtrack has been recorded in Dolby Digital Mono. English, French, and Spanish subtitles are accessible. Supplemental materials include a commentary track recorded by Coolidge. She communicates the joy of making the film, her affection for the cast, and the hard work that went into making a film with so small a budget. There is also a "pop-up" track full of '80s trivia. Coolidge and star Nicolas Cage interview each other in one featurette, while a standard looking-back-on-the-film featurette contains interviews with most of the cast. Music videos from Modern English and the Plimsouls are included. The original theatrical trailer, and storyboard-to-screen comparisons round out this excellent package from MGM/UA.

Joe Johnston's Honey I Shrunk the Kids comes to DVD with a standard full-frame transfer. The English soundtrack is rendered in Dolby Digital 5.1. There are no subtitles, but the soundtrack is closed-captioned. There are no supplemental materials of any consequence. This Disney/Buena/Vista release is difficult to recommend to anyone other than a person on the lookout for family-friendly entertainment.
