Francis Ford Coppola's underrated Rumble Fish finally gets its due in the digital medium thanks to this special edition from Universal. The film has received a sharp new transfer that draws out the complex levels of detail in Stephen H. Burum's stunning black-and-white cinematography. Dolby 2.0 and 5.1 stereo options are included in the audio area: both sound great, with the new 5.1 remix really punching up Stewart Copeland's percussion-heavy score. The extras start with a thoughtful commentary track from Coppola that covers everything from aesthetic choices to nuts-and-bolts production details. Several deleted scenes are also included, which come from a poor video source, but fans will be interested to see how they offer more screen time to Vincent Spano's character. Next up are two featurettes: "On Location" covers the Tulsa shoot and "The Percussion-Based Score" delves into the inspirations behind the film's unique soundtrack. Both are short but pack in plenty of interesting comments from new and old interviews. Finally, there is a trailer and a stylish music video for the film's theme song, "Don't Box Me In." All in all, the sharp transfer and tidy package of extras make this worthwhile for Coppola fans and anyone interested in the overlooked films of the '80s.

The debut feature from director Lisa Gottlieb, Just One of the Guys is an '80s gender-bending teen comedy starring Joyce Hyser as an aspiring female writer who pretends to be a boy for a piece she's writing. Delivered to DVD for the first time with this bare-bones release, the film has received a full-screen transfer with the audio mastered in Dolby Digital 2.0 Mono. Bob Balaban's ghostly comedy My Boyfriend's Back comes to DVD with a widescreen anamorphic transfer that preserves the original theatrical aspect ratio of 1.85:1. The English soundtrack is rendered in Dolby Digital Surround. There are no subtitles, but the soundtrack is closed-captioned. There are no supplemental materials of any consequence, making it difficult to recommend this Disney/Buena Vista title to anyone other than a genre enthusiast or a fan of the film.

Ben Stiller's The Cable Guy managed to be considered a box-office failure while still making close to 100 million dollars. The film comes to DVD with a widescreen anamorphic transfer that preserves the original theatrical aspect ratio of 2.35:1. English soundtracks are rendered in both Dolby Digital 5.1 and Dolby Digital Surround, while Spanish and French soundtracks are recorded in Dolby Digital Mono. Spanish and Korean subtitles are accessible, and the Dolby Digital 5.1 English soundtrack is closed-captioned. Supplemental materials are basically nonexistent. Though this is not a favorite of Jim Carrey's fans, completists will be happy to have this fine-looking, and sounding, version of the film available on home video.
